Anyone ever try recording from PS3 to Mac using EyeTVHD ?

Hello,
I am connecting my PS3 with a multi AV cable to the back of my PS3 and connecting the blue green red cables to the EyeTVHD but I always get a NO SIGNAL message on the Mac.
Has anyone tried this and got it to work?
Is it possible to record games, regular dvds, and bluray using this setup ?
Which are possible and which are not ?
I can record from my regular dvd player ( but picture only - no sound )
The back of the dvd player has a digital video out but I believe EyeTVHD only accepts analog input. So not sure how to get sound if that is the case.
If anyone can help with the PS3 connections or the dvd player sound - much thanks.
Is the only way to record bluray to purchase a bluray writer and would the bluray writer work with the PS3 using EYETVHD with the Mac - man it's really getting confusing now.

That's probably because, as you describe your setup, nothing is connected to the Mac.

Thanks for the quick responses. Unfortunately, there is no backup :(.
I will ask if they get logged into the global zone, but one thing I forgot to mention is that this zone (as are all our non-global zones and the global zone also) are configured for ldap logins.
Assuming that they can even try to login to the global zone, can they even see the directory structure in the non-global zone (sorry, I haven't worked with Zones much thus far) from the global zone?
Also, if they can see the non-global zones directory structure, what should they then try?
Also, I've been searching and I've seen some suggestions of running a "pkgcheck -af" which might restore the directory permissions to what the various packages expect. Assuming that they can get to the point that they can at least log into the zone, is that something that would work?
I'm setting up a new test Solaris box now, with a zone, to try to reproduce the problem. If I can reproduce the problem, I'll post back whether or not I see the same thing.
In the meantime, if anyone has any suggestions, please post them.

P.S. In case you're wondering, the box/zone that got messed up was a test/integration zone, and they were in the process of installing some software when this chmod happened.

You don't want to do that by copying.
Your best bet, by far, is to use Setup Assistant. If your Mac is running Snow Leopard, see Using Setup Assistant on Snow Leopard or Leopard.

Migration Assistant (Finder > Applications > Utilities > Migration Assistant) is the tool that you would use to restore backups from older Macs to another Mac.

Using (Gmail) IMAP account from 2 different Macs using Mail ?

Would it be feasible/useful to access an (Gmail) IMAP mail account from 2 different Macs using Mail on each Mac?
My current situation:
- My main computer is an iMac in my bedroom on which I use Mail for my Gmail IMAP account.
- Sometimes (ex: late at night) I can't work from the bedroom and use a PowerBook and the web interface of Gmail. However, I don't like the threaded view for managing emails and therefore prefer the Apple Mail interface.
Question:
Would it make sense that I use Apple Mail on the PowerBook to access the Gmail account instead of using the web interface?
What would be the inconveniences?

Doing so is pretty easy, and standard. That is what IMAP accounts are for, and many computers can access the same account, and what email client they choose doesn't matter.

Look for them on your old computer, when found copy the files to a USB drive and move them to the new computer.

Connect the iPhone to your Mac and launch iPhoto. It will detect the photos and indicate those that are not already in the library so you can import them.
Be careful in letting iPhoto delete the photos from the iPhone. It's best to delete them manually from the iPhone so you have more control over what gets deleted.
Once you have your iPhone and iPhoto setup with Photo Stream to automatically import all new photos taken with your iPhone it'll be a seamless transfer:

Then boot in Safe Mode, (holding Shift key down at bootup; takes longer to boot this way so be patient), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.

There isn't really a one-stop solution for the Mac Mini yet. So, you can't just run to your Apple dealer and purchase everything in a single kit and go home and plug it in.

Anyone ever try jogging with their 30 Gig 5th Generation?

Right now I am on the fence about getting an 8gig nano or 30 gig iPod because they are the same price. I do some jogging, and am interested if anyone ever had problems with the hard drive skipping.

I recommend getting the 30gb 5G. I have the 60gb 5G and have jogged with it frequently. I elect to hold it in my hand while jogging for two reasons. First to reduce any risk of skipping, and second, to be able to adjust the volume easily as needed (I elect not to do volume leveling). My case keeps it isolated from the effects of perspiration.
Despite jogging with it numerous times, it's never skipped.

Has anyone ever try to run Smart View 11.1 with HFM 9.3.1 ?

I know that Smart View 9.3.1 has a lot of bug (mainly formatting issue). Have you ever try to run the new version with older version? Does it work?

This configuration should work but you have to be careful with things like localization differences between the two releases. For example if you are currently using a localized release of 9.3.1 and move you will find that some 11.x version of the client may not be localized.
In other word be sure the the 11.x version will meet all of your needs aside form data first.

Playing & recording on the same mac using a Firewire 410

What I want to do is record audio (my mixes) from traktor LE into another audio app...
i.e i have selected traktor to use ch3&4 for master output, i then want to patch this audio signal @ Ch3&4 in to an input (ch1&2) on the card so i can get a recording app like audacity or live to record the signal coming back in. Like using ASIO on a pc...
On the FW410 control panel there are a number of mixer settings to configure, software return being one of them... when i select the input chanels in the recording software there's never a signal at the expected input.
I havent tried to route the audio via hard wire from the output (ch3&4) back to the input (ch1&2) as i thought software would do the job...
Does anyone know how to operate this sound card, or is what i'm asking not possible?

That depends on the application in question.
Since all the data requests are coming from the same Mac, you don't have the issues you would have if you had two different machines talking at the same time.
However, it now depends on whether the application(s) you're using supports file locks.
As long as the application that's manipulating the data properly locks the part of the file it's working on, and that the application you're using to read the file reads the locks and knows whether or not it's OK to use that part of the file, you should be OK.

it works fine. But that only accounts for one of the above roles.
As soon as I ad an OR and another set of criteria my CF7 server's
swsoc.exe goes into an permanent loop (well, at least 10 minutes, I
reboot after that :-)

Any combination hangs CF7, whether it be two, three or all
conditions, and any combination of conditions..
The teams table stores team name, coach, team manager,
assistant coach and coordinator. Players table stores the player
records, and the parent (uid_invoice_to), is part of the player
record. player agegroups has the teams, with a record for each
player in a team. The whole system is based around seasons, hence
the #session.season# variable.
What should happen is I get a very short list of teams. When
I select a team from the select list I then go and grab all the
player records from the player_agegroups table joined to the users
table to get their names, date of birth etc...
Can anyone see what I am doing wrong?

You might try to change your query using a SQL JOIN command,
so you can link the appropriate tables independently from the WHERE
selection criteria. You could use Access to create the query and
then go to the SQL command view to get the correct synyax.
