Anyone experienced radical instability and resolved it?
I love the new functions with Mountain Lion - Messages, Share, Notifications, Reminders, Dictation, Airplay. All awesome new apps that make life just that little easier and faster. All evidence of why I use Apple product in the first place - it's all about how I work. Nice work Apple! I appreciate too that a new release 10.8.1 was put out reasonably quickly - it shows responsiveness
I hate that my 10 months old 8GB MacBook Pro has crashed 7 times already today and 9, 5, 12 etc., times the previous days since on 10.8.1/10.8.0. The crashing started happening a few days after upgrade. It would continuously run awesomely for a week at a time on 10.7, and now on average running between 30 and 45 minutes before a complete freeze that requires powering off… All of a sudden, the computer becomes completely unresponsive, with the color disk spinning... I gotta hold down the power butten to recycle it, and it takes upwards of 20 minutes to start, when on 10.7 it'd be up and functional in say 2 minutes. Not that I'm averse to a drink break every half hour, but not for 20 minutes each time. Happens on both Macbook Pro and Air.
I notice a bunch of reviews relating to Mountain Lion report similar stability issues. Just wondering if anyone else who has experienced this has managed to resolve it, and if so, how?
Well, I've basically uninstalled or deleted everything that's not 'native' or pure Apple software that I can think of. The same problem happens with the native apps -- the computer is so unreliable that it is effectively rendered useless. The computer won't even do a soft restart, freezes if I try to launch Mail or initiate a download through iTunes, and does not last 5 minutes running any of the iWork apps.
How do we close this thread, as I have given up trying and I value my time too much to keep investing it on something that is clearly now a piece of junk?

If so, call them.
I had mine replaced last year. There are several reasons why a computer does not boot, so it is difficult to say if the hard drive was the cause. You can take yours to an Apple store and ask to have diagnostic tests run. Youc an also boot up from your backup and run Disk Utility > Verify disk on your internal to see if any errors pop up. -
I have a 64 bit pc but Flash player and plugin container seem to be 32 bit. Is this relevant ?
The CPU goes up to 60% for just these two processes within about 3 minutes of streaming some videos. The system effectively dies until I end one of the processes with task manager.

Firefox plays the BBC Iplayer videos with no problems but files like the Techmoan above make the CPU go wild and stop the PC within about 3 minutes.
Opera 20 plays the Techmoan video all the way through with no problems.
This points to the problem being in Firefox.

Since I've upgraded to OS 10.9 my Macbook Pro 2.4GHz started doing strange things. It consumes large amounts of Power. The battery draines much faster than before in normal usage and even worse... it consumes quite a bit power while its alseep. A fully charged battery looses over night (hibernating) 30% of its capacity.
Secondly... the Mac takes ages to startup. Opening Apps and Aplications takes longer than under OS 10.8
Worst though is the grphical issue. My MacBook keeps on giving me funny patterns aroud openend windows and Ikons. A restart fixes the problem for a while, but it keeps comig back more and more frequently. Here is a screenshot:
Has anyone else come acorss these problems. Any sugestions what to do?!Doesn't matter if the symptoms don't match. You've got an affected machine, and your graphics card could easily be in the early stages of failure. You definitely need to get it checked out by Apple.
Regarding the battery, some people are claiming battery problems with Mavericks, but I haven't seen any evidence of that. My machine's battery life is the same as it was before the upgrade. My guess would be that the sufferers, such as yourself, have other issues, such as a coincidentally failing battery, third-party software incompatible with Mavericks or a corrupt system. For all I know, the hardware problems you are likely having with your graphics card may be causing the card to draw too much power and reduce battery life. Since you need to get your machine looked at by Apple anyway, have them check the battery as well. -
I'm unable to re-install Whatsapp as the iTune Store keeps appearing the terms and condition, once i click the iTune Store. While on the term T&C page, there's no button for proceed. Cant do anything. Has anyone experienced it ?

I've downloaded the new software on my iphone and now it won't open itunes. I've done the upgrade, restarted my phone multiple times. Anyone experiencing similar problems. This is infuriating, how can the software mess up a previously functioning device and apple offer no remedy?!
I have already solved the problem by accessing the music tab then logging to iTunes store through it. It hasked for my apple id which was provided, then access was approved.
ever since, I am accessing iTunes directly and there are no problems.
I wonder whether this was the link to the solution. -
has anyone experienced this problem: I am editing in FCP 7.0.3 on a Mac 10.6.8 - I have a clip in the browser that is full frame and fine and it matches the other clips in my bins but when I drop it into the time line it becomes a fully zoomed in version of itself and I can only see a small portion of the image. What's going on? I've noticed this has happened in the past randomly with other clips and it's driving me cray cray! Any help appreciated greatly and thanks in advance for taking the time
In the FCP Browser, click on the source clip that is showing up sized incorrectly to select it. Once it is selected, type Command + 9 to see the item properties for the clip. Either report those properties here, or take a screen shot of the item properties and post the screen shot here.
Next, click anywhere in your sequence timeline and then type Command + 0 {zero} to see your sequence settings. Either report those settings or take a screen shot of the sequence settings and post that screen shot here.

Has anyone else experienced the stopping and starting again whil playing music in itunes. It was working fine wit the prior fix, but after the last update
it started skipping again.Try it in another vehicle see if it still happens, at least you can narrow it down to your phone or the car. My 4s play totally fine, I have never had any of those issues. Maybe its time to restore your phone and start over. I would also have someone else play their Iphone in your car, see if it happens to them. Or try yours in someone elses car. Good Luck!

Under the iCloud portion of settings on my iPhone, I have always gotten the message "account not verified". The email matches and is in fact the same for my accounts on iCloud and iTunes. Has anyone had this problem, and how have they resolved it?

I have experienced some mild tingling if I touch the aluminum case on my iMac at the same time that I touch the metal cases on my external hard drives. They are all connected to the same surge suppressor and are on the same circuit, which is definitely properly grounded. I can't explain it, and I just make sure not to touch them at the same time.
I have never had any sensation touching just one of the devices alone. Is that what you are experiencing? -
A "shared' equipment icon identified as only f891cb000000 is appearing in my sidebar and the only info I can generate identifies it as a PC-- my attempts to generate more info results in nothing more than "fetching;" has anyone experienced similar?
Thanks to the gentlemen, Messrs. Galt & rack0 tack0, for their timely replies. I failed to mention in my original post that there are upwards of 15 Apple appliances in our house-- from Apple TV to 4 Apple iPhones to 4 iPads to 2 MacBook Pros to 2 iMacs to a 2TB Time Capsule-- we're all Apple, all the time. We don't own a PC and that was what was hanging me up. I did confirm, incidentally that we're IP6 (although, honestly, that technical jargon didn't mean a lot to me-- hey, I learned something [sorta]!). Anyway, after much digging, I've finally determined that what was/is being identified as a PC, is in fact a Canon MX860 Printer serving the "old" 21' iMac-- thankfully, our recently acquired Epson XP-410 serving the "new" 27' iMac is identified as such. And despite the time spent, a few valuable things occurred along the way, including a firmware update related to the Time Capsule... learn by doing, I guess. Thanks again.

Using windows 8 - receive message "ipod detected but cannot be identified properly" when connecting ipod nano 7th gen. Have unisntalled and reinstalled itunes from apple site as advised with no luck. Has anyone else had this problem and resolved it please?

Mac mini crashing into the login screen. Anyone else experiencing the same and know of a solution?
I have a Mac mini (mid-2010) with 5GB of RAM and running OS X Lion 10.7.2 and lately I've been noticing it crash and take me directly to the login screen. After I sign back in everything reboots to where I left off. I believe the problem is related to Safari. I normally have many instances of Safari browser windows open and I'm wondering if that might be the issue? Is anyone else experiencing this problem and have they found any remedies?
Note the time it freezes. That upon next successful start open the Console app in the Utilities folder and look for associated log entries at that time and post them here

Has anyone experienced problems with downloading Nikon D800 files to the iPad3 using the camer connector kit? I have tried .RAW and JPEG (of various sizes) on both SD and CF cards, but the iPad doesn't recognise the files.
I have seen various forums discussing Lightroom and PSE updates that are required to process .NEF files but I can't find anything on the iPad/camera connector issue.
I dont have any problem if I put the SD card straight into the SD slot in my iMac and Aperture will process the files fine, but I would really like to be able to download and view files on the move on the iPad.
Any advice appreciated?
PS - saw something that suggested the iPad had a maximum file size of 16mb for photos, not sure if this is correct, but I have tried smaller JPEG files and they still aren't recognised.If your camera supports both PTP and Mass Storage Device modes, it may be necessary to use both modes to import all media content.
If some files do not import as expected using one mode, try switching to the other mode and importing again.
Note: Some cameras may refer to PTP as Pictbridge or PTP/Pictbridge.
