Anyone exported a QuickTime yet?

Can someone please tell me if FCP X exports QuickTimes with full levels (up to 107%ish) or does it clip in order to produce "legal" results? Because downstream grading on a clipped output is pointless... Someone please?

The answer is yes, it will produce full height QuickTimes that can roll into a grade elsewhere, and presumably the DPX and OpenEXR outputs are fine although I haven't looked at them specifically.
The issue is now to find a way within the innards of FCP X to derive an edl from something... I can't bear the though of manually adding cuts on a long form project in a grade. Of course there are "optical" tools for this - I once used CatDV for the purpose, when FinalTouch was very broken - but it's a bit of a crazy workaround.
I know half of you will never believe this but I had never opened iMovie (why should I?) but a colleague tells me it all feels deeply familiar. Which means if we crack this, we can work with a decade of home videos too! I'm so excited! This is incredible!

  • How can I export via QuickTime in iMovie '13 (10.0)?

Prior versions of iMovie had an export via QuickTime option, which allowed me to select the file format, encoding settings, etc. After upgrading to the new iMovie, that appears to have gone away. The Share -> File option does not allow me that level of control over the output file. Has that functionality been removed from iMovie?

I'm also having trouble with this. The new version of iMovie lost a lot of its features and is clearly focused toward the social media side of things. After importing using SD cameras that import video in a *square* PiP format, I am finding it impossible to update any of my settings to export the video in any other format that wouldn't cut out the picture. Basically, the only settings I've found in the share option of the iMovie 10.0 cu off the tops and bottoms of all my recording. Previously, I used QuickTime settings to pick what format and quality I wanted to export in. Does anyone have any insight about how to export using, say, a 640 x 480 format or in being able to adjust to any format other than the standard ones giving.
Is there any other video software I can be using to import and export with that gives me more functionality?

  • Export in QuickTime with "Only Hyperlink"

Hallo! I've a problem! When export in QuickTime from KeyNote, setting "Only hyperlink", the keys with the
action back do not only work while next it works. This happens even if inserts the numeration of the page. Can you help me??!!! Thank you very much!

OK, I may have found the source of the problem: when i tried to play the movie file that I had inserted in Keynote on my PC, Quicktime asked for a codec. In Movie Inspector, I saw that the video was encoded in FLV1...
Any idea where I can get this codec for QT WIndows (I'm searching for it and haven't found it yet)

  • Keynote 3.0.2  Will Not Export to Quicktime

I have a put together a Keynote presentation that uses a Quicktime movie on one of the slides. The presentation plays fine within Keynote, but when I try to export the presentation to Quicktime, the export stops and tells me there's not enough memory or there's something wrong with the file. The message comes up when the export procedure reaches the slide that contains the Quicktime movie. Is it possible to export a Keynote presentation to a Quicktime Movie if the presentation has a movie in it? That's like a movie inside a movie. I can't get it to export to QTime.

The other work around that I've found is to tell it "send to iDVD" but then quit iDVD when it pops that up. You'll end up with just the quicktime file it created.
What I noticed is that when a "quicktime export" plays in QT, it has a fps rate of like 7 or 8 or even 13 but the dynamic "playing fps" goes up to 30 during transitions and back to 0 when there isn't a transition. At least with the iDVD cheat you end up with 24 fps. That may work for some people, that is film rate, but I'm in need of NTSC DV 29.97. So I import it into Final Cut Express, and do an export conversion.
I don't use audio, so I don't know how that would work in this cheat, but since your voiceover (I'm guessing based on trying to put music to my slides) is one entire track, you can add that in FCE before that export and line it up there.
If anyone else has suggestions to get a 29.97 export correct with the "export to quicktime", I'd love to hear it. This cheat takes too long for my work.

  • Export to Quicktime Movie Results in Aspect Ratio Distortion

All of my original footage was shot in miniDV. I have created a sequence with the following settings:
    Frame size: 720 x 480
    Compressor: DV/DVCPRO - NTSC
Pixel Aspect: NTSC - CCIR 601
    Vid rate: 29.97 fps
Ultimately the sequence needs to go to DVD with a standard 4:3 aspect ratio. To export, I am using:
File > Export > QuickTime Movie...
I have tried using several different settings including:
Apple Pro Res 422 NTSC 48 kHz
Apple Pro Res 422 NTSC (HQ) 48 kHz
    Apple Pro Res 960x720 30p 48 kHz
    DV NTSC 48 kHz
    etc...
All settings yield the same result: a slightly squeezed aspect ratio. At first, I thought that this might simply be the fact that I was playing back files in QuickTime which uses square pixels I believe. But in both DVD Studio Pro and iDVD, the simulation shows the same effect. (By the way, Finder's "Get Info" reads the resulting Final Cut Pro Movie File dimensions 720x486.)
I'm fairly new to FCP so I'm hoping there is something obvious that I have missed. Can anyone explain what I need to do to get the video to DVD without a distorted aspect ratio?
(Incidentally, I have managed to export using quicktime conversion with no problem. But I need the export to be a Final Cut Pro Movie File so as to maintain chapter markers, etc.)
    Advice welcome!!!

Hi David, I know this was discussed in you posting already but I just wanted to make sure I had it clear. I have a 4:3 film and I've exported as a quicktime movie with current settings, which should be 4:3 and found that the image when played back in quicktime, looks horizontally stretched. Almost as if quicktime is trying to play it back as a 16:9 image. I think this is the same issue the other fellow was having but I just wanted to be clear. You're saying that the 4:3 image distortion is perfectly normal when played back in quicktime on a computer screen and that the export will look fine when put to DVD or sent to a monitor? I just wanted to make sure because this problem is freaking me out and I don't want to deliver a distorted image to my client. Could you also explain briefly why this happens with quicktime export and not quicktime conversion and what causes quicktime to distort the 4:3 image? Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated.
    Cheers,
    james.

  • Why Can't I Export to Quicktime from Garageband?

Has anyone else experienced this or would know how to fix it...
I created a .mov file from Keynote and brought it into Garageband as a Video Track to sync the music to the Keynote presentation. Now I'm ready to Export to Quicktime from Garageband. When I choose the Export command from the 'Share' menu in Garageband, it runs through two dialog boxes - first "Creating Mixdown" and then "Converting..." - after the second dialog box disappears no Quicktime file is created.
I have tried several things to remedy this, but have had no luck - such as updating to Garageband 3.0.1, running Disk Utility, restarting the computer. I also made sure to check the Preferences in Garageband before exporting.
Can anyone tell me how I can get it to export?
Also, the final Garageband file size is approximately 180MB and the presentation runs approximately 8 minutes. The final file will need to be 'full quality', as it will be shown from a projector at a meeting.
      Mac OS X (10.3.9)   Keynote v3.0.0; Garageband v3.0.1; Dual 1GHz G4; 1.5GB SDRAM

    Which export did you use?
Try going into prefs->export, enable the export to disk option.
Than in the Share menu choose export to disk.
Then do a search on the name of your song (in the Finder) and see if it shows up.

  • Keynote 6.0 Video not playing (export to Quicktime)

I have a presentation with a few embeded videos.  No matter what I do, they videos will not play when exporting the presentation to Quicktime.  The same presentation in Keynote '09, export to Quicktime works without issue.  Has anyone had similar issues?

Here's what I found ... I had to install Quicktime 7 and use iwork 09' (using them in mavericks) ... Using those two and opening projects in those two, works the way it should be.
There's an issue with the NEW Quicktime ... Even if you open and older .mov, it still won't let you control your keynote prsentation.
If you want to control your keynote presentation ( like the way it was), then search Quicktime 7 and use iwork 09'.
Here's what I don't understand ... Being able to convert any keynote presentation to a .mov is a major deal for videos. When they release the new stuff, doesn't anybody actually look at it first? ... Ya' know, to see if it actually works before releasing it? I get that a few things can slip by, but c'mon, major funtions ???
ALSO ........ When exporting the new keynote ( version 6). You can't export to a .mov ... It says quicktime, but it saves to a mv4.
I can see adding value, but stop taking away value !!!!!!!!!

  • IMovies - Export Using Quicktime - can't find the finished file - help please!

Please help.  I exported several imovies projects to a designated file on my mac, using Share - Export using Quicktime and then I uploaded them to Youtube.
I did this successfully several times, now when I export a project, it takes about 45 minutes to export it, then I can't find them anymore.
I have read several threads, which suggest looking in the iMovie projects folder and locate your project Right-click to get to "show package contents" and they are not there.
It looks as if it goes through successfully, no errors but this is so annoying as I am wasting hours sharing and then can't find it.  Please help anyone.
    Thanks

    Hi Gee
I originally spent about 10 hours uploading 3 clips directly from imovies to Youtube to a private channel and they couldn't find any signs of my 3 uploads.  So I read threads that said export to Quicktime from imovies and then load them to Youtube that way.  I did that for 3 short, 10 minute videos and it worked fine.  It changed the thread to .mov and it worked.
Then perhaps I changed something (not sure what) but now when I use Export to Quicktime, it spends 1 hour or so doing the motions and completes but when I go to the allocated folder to retrieve it.  It can't be found.  I read threads and this seems to be a regular occurrence but I haven't read any replies that has solved this issue.
    Hope that's clearer.

  • Slideshow Export over QuickTime didn't work

    Hi,
today i try after a long time (and first time with iPhoto 8) an export over QuickTime. But the first time ever in my iPhoto history i have a big problem who i can't fix and i didn't found any informations here what i can do.
So... If i create an new album as a slideshow, i can put a lot of images who i like in it. But if o try to export this stuff, it's doesn't work. A short time before the export are finished, iPhoto stop the process without an message and suggest me, that all looks fine. But if i try to locate the file on my Picture/iPhoto Slideshow folder, i see nothing. The QuickTime file is missing.
Than i read, that i can try to export/share the Slideshow with iDVD. I try this, and oh man... I got an QuickTime file in my folder, but iDVD say it's not a movie file.
So i try it again to export another slideshow (my final one) to iDVD to got an QuickTime file but now i see nothing again in the folder. After my second try i got the message, that i didn't have enough space on my HD. The info was right. From 7 GB of free space on my internal HD a few minutes ago i have now only 500 MB free... Where all the space is gone?
I quit iPhoto and got my space back, thanks... But the export still doesn't work really good.
Hey, it's nice to watch pics in iPhoto, but it will be also nice to share some pics as a special slideshow outside from iPhoto.
If anyone have an idea what i can do?
Oh, by the way... After my first steps i try to install iPhoto completely new and i removed all external plugins... But nothing works better.

It could be an issue of a file or folder inside the iPhoto application having it's access turned off to you somehow. It's happened before with certain buttons not showing or working.
Open the application, select, Control-click and select "show package contents". Then look for any item that has a red circle with a "-" in it attached to it. If you do that means you don't have access. Select it and bring up the Info window (Command-I) to change access. If that doesn't work you might have to reinstall the application from the installation disk that came with your Mac or from the iLife disks (whichever is appropriate).

  • Keynote 06 - Exporting to Quicktime

Okay, so I know how to export keeping the audio intact.
My main problem is keeping all the timings I've created intact as I don't have ANYTHING happening "on click" in my presentation. It is all timed and I'm finding the delay between slides is too long (when one "ends" and the other "begins").
    Thus my question:
Using Keynote 06 ... how do I export into Quicktime KEEPING all my timings intact ?

This version doesn't have the recording function --- http://grab.by/3QBb
Thus I cannot do that work around ... anyone got any assistance on offer ?
Should I just give up and save it as a presentation not try to export to Quicktime (make into a movie)

  • Keynote 09 exporting to QuickTime playback issue

    Hello,
I am looking for some amazing expertise and really appreciate any help and guidance.
I've exported a presentation from Keynote 09 to Quicktime and have an issue. When I try to play the presentation in QT X, I click to advance from slide 1 to 2 and it works perfect, but then when I click to advance to slide 3 it returns me to the start of slide 1 every time. Meanwhile when I use the spacebar/quickview without opening QT the entire presentation plays perfectly.
When I look at the QT file on a PC (using a thumb drive or a CD) QT 7 the file plays correctly in my testing. I have heard from others who these CDs were provided to that some may have had a similar issue, but I can not verify.
Please let me know any additional information I can supply. Can anyone help me understand this issue better and possibly help me correct it? Is this a known issue, or a simple user error?
    Many thanks,
    Michael

    Thanks Dani and Glad...
As an update on my side:
I called in to Apple to try and find out if I jump up to Final Cut Studio (with a bit of a learning curve), if I would be able to replicate exactly the (slideshow) video I made easily in Keynote, hopefully avoiding this issue with the assumption that it is specifically related to Keynote.
Prior to getting on the line with a Final Cut expert, I did fully explain why I was calling with the hope of getting a solution for this issue as I would like to keep Keynote in my arsenal, especially since I am semi-fluent in it.
The person helping was very nice and asked to put me on hold for 3-5 minutes, which I am perfectly happy to wait for complete and accurate information. The solution I was presented with was as follows:
    1) Go to export to QT as usual.
    2) Click the second drop down (Formats) and select 'Custom...'.
    3) A new window will pop up, click the 'Settings...' button.
My 'Compression Type' drop down was set to 'H.264'....I was told to
    4) Change the 'Compression Type' to 'MPEG-4 Video.
(I do not think it is related to the fix being suggested or just as a preference, I was told to slide the Compressor - Quality slider on the bottom left to 'Best')
    5) Click the 'OK' button on the bottom left
    That window will close.
    6) Click the 'Next' button and continue with your export.
I did this and the QT file worked, unlike the original I had done. I can not confirm it isn't a hit or miss like Glad saw...but I did ask if this was a "just try this and let's see" (like Microsoft, altctldel...try restarting your machine) or if this is a known issue....it wasn't totally clear, but I was told (not exact words, but basically) there may be something funky about Keynote or QT with H.264. I don't know codecs so have no idea, but I continued....
In case I still don't feel comfortable with this "fix" (which I am not sure I do...I also made a new, but less complex video and switched back to H.264 - this one worked...) I asked to still be connected to a FC expert, just to ask my questions anyway as it would be good knowledge to have, even if just for future self development.
I again did my best to explain what was going on, and the Final Cut person did not understand how changing to H.264 would make any difference...to mention, it is possible I had a hard time getting on the same page as this person who was trying to help me so he may not have understood exactly what I was asking exactly - but he did understand my bottom line - I need to make this video that works when exported to Quicktime!
Not sure if related (would be curious if this is relevant to others here), again not being familiar with codecs, etc - I had dropped a few QT movies I was given from someone else not being sure what they used to create it. I thought a Quicktime movie is a QT move - universal standard....apparently so for playing but not for re-exporting.
I was advised to get a QT 7 Pro key so in the future I can open QT movies I am sent in QT and re-export it as a QT movie from my machine (OS, codec, etc, etc, etc) before dropping it into a project I am working on.
Being on OS 10.6 I have QT X, which does not have this functionality (as mentioned - no Pro version) and when I tried to get a QT 7 Pro key in the past I was misinformed that I wouldn't be able to install it on my machine since it is running a newer version and wouldn't let me install an outdated/older version. Apparently, this is not totally accurate - it is missing from my Utility folder, but I need to do a custom install of it (only way to do it - can't just DL it) from the 10.6 OS disk.
Please, let me know if any of this worked for you or if I can add more details I left out.
Best of luck (...for us all)!!!!
    Michael

  • Trouble exporting to quicktime

I created a new keynote file using keynote08 trial version and tried to export in quicktime.
However, new slide transitions are not exporting as shown in keynote.
Is it just me only, or exclusively to trial version?
    Is anyone experiencing same problem?

The bug has to do with wave file in my slide.
When I delete the wave file in slide, slide transition effects work same way as in quicktime export or in actual keynote presentation. But slides with wave file shows the problem.
I am not sure why it has such problem. Previous keynote version did not have this kind of problem. Slide with wave file was exported to quicktime without any problem in keynote 3 version in iwork06.

  • Problems Exporting to Quicktime.  Would you use Profcast?

Using the new Keynote, which is promising, we recording a seminar that was 2 hours long. We wanted to distribute it via CD. We have tried to export it so many ways to Quicktime. We get the old "Your slideshow cannot be exported as a Quicktime movie. There's not enough disk space, or there was a problem with the file." Of course, disk pace is not a problem. We just found out that this is some sort of bug that the Apple community has been trying to figure out for years and has errupted again with this new Keynote version. We've tried the couple solutions posted elsewhere on the internet, and nicely summarized here: http://www.madebymark.com/madebymark/2006/04/keynote30expo.html
As with the author above, they haven't worked for us. And we don't have a stray "audio icon" that the author describes. Our Keynote presentation is very bare, with new fancy slide transitions or effects.
I'm thinking that Keynote cannot be trusted with audio presentations of over a few minutes. We recorded a nice four minute or so presentation and exported to Quicktime. It worked wonderfully. Has all the nice effects. When we tried a longer recording (10) minutes, all the sound and transitions were out of sync.
Our problem is that we record whole lecture and seminars. If Keynote has a glitch, we are then having to re-record. It's painful and expensive.
We were using Profcast, which allows us to import Keynote presentation and record the lectures. Now Profcast doesn't allow fancy transitions. It also doesn't (or did not) export to Quicktime. It exported to mp4 (I believe) which a Quicktime user could open. But the audio was perfectly timed with the slide pagination. And two other important benefits. The lecturer could easily start and stop the audio. If I'm not mistaken, that's not on option under Keynote. If you start the recording under Keynote, you're on until you finish. If you pause (I don't think there is a pause. I think you must exit) the recording, you end the recording. The final nice thing of Profcast (although I have not used it) is that you can export to GarageBand. At that point you can edit out extraneous material. I'm not sure what to do with it at that point. I don't think GarageBand allows you to export to quicktime. I think you can export to iTunes which is a type of QT. Assuming that one had to edit using GarageBand, that would require person to have iTunes to listen and watch the slide presentation, if I'm not mistaken. The other problem is that when you are using Profcast, as I remember (and I may be wrong on this), you lose all the nice transitions and effects. You still see the same slides with the same quality, but minus the effects.
ProfCast has proven a reliable workhorse, but without the effects. Quicktime is wonderful if you are not recording audio. If you are, nightmares ensue, and there seems little hope for an immediate solution.
Here are my questions. Beyond the few solutions for the Quicktime export problem, does anyone have any solutions? Any suggestions? We have a three hour presentation (it's huge) and are loathe to rerecord it.
Should we just stick with Profcast? Why or why not?
    Oscar

Oscar I feel your pain !
We had similar problems from a recent seminar recording.
However I don't think it's length related. We recorded 15 presentations. 7 of which did not have slides. All those were fine with just our placeholder screen (25-ish minutes each)
Of the remaining 8 half exported finem, half crashed with the "disk full etc" error. All 8 presentations had slides imported from Powerpoint PC. Slide numbers ranged from 10 to 30. We could not determine a common denominator between the ones that crashed.
We tried removing transitions, deleting and re-inserting the original slides and a whole raft of other voodoo especially trying to hack the contents of the KN Package file in the hope of stumbling on to a fix ... to no avail.
This was a one-off live conference, no re-record possible. You don't want to hear this but we were forced to extract the audio and manually resynch All the presentations in Flash
You may have a better workflow, but you DO know you can control click the Keynote file, choose "Show Package Contents" and in there you will find all sorts of stuff including the .m4a audio file
This is a serious bug that render KN completely it's recording feature completely unusable.
But what has been most disappointing to me has been the absolute lack of any feedback from the stuff I have filed on this. Bug reports, Feature Enhancements, and the lack of comments from any of the Apple KN staff on this Apple KN board, does not speak well to the type of support for this product.
But here's the sting in the tail:
Having JUST completed the Flash workaround (at a cost of several thousand dollars in contracting) I just installed the KN 4.01 updater released today and all the files that would not export now do so just fine ! Grrrrrrrrrr.........

  • Keynote doesn't export in Quicktime

    Hello!
I have a problem with a Keynote file: I must show this presentation on PC and so, I want to export it in Quicktime (because there are many animations and hyperlinks).
But, if I export it, I get the error message, that the Keynote file cannot be exported in Quicktime, because the volume hasn't enough disk space or there is a problem with the file.
I have enough disk space (more than 75 GB) and all my files, which I imported to Keynote, are okay.
Can anyone help me? Because I can't find any solutions at the Apple homepage or other websites.
    Thanks!

I've also had this problem in the past, but based on the suggestion of another member of this forum I tried exporting my presentations using the Custom settings menu and then selecting MPEG-4, 30 Frames per second, and Best quality. The presentations have exported perfectly.
    Good luck.
