Anyone figured out how to run iCal completely invisible?

Has anyone figured out how to run iCal completely invisible on Snow Leopard -- not just minimized on the dock, but completely hidden. The goal is to be able to press Comamnd+Tab and NOT see iCal.

I too have a KRZR K1M that I received two days ago as a "gift' from Verizon in exchange for renewing my contract for 2 years. I had a RAZR that I had been able to sync with iCal after I edited the metaclass.plist file for that phone. I would then have to delete and re-add the RAZR each time I resynched in order to select the option I wanted from the iSync dialog window. If I "merge[d] data," the calendars on both my mac and my phone would fill quickly with duplicate entries. As for the KRZR, i have tried several times to add and sync this phone to the mac. It worked only once, and I was able to get the mac to write a years worth of events into the phone, but no matter what i do, i have not been able to repeat the process for my ical events. I use the VZW backup assistant for my contacts, just to be safe. I would like very much for Verizon and Apple to get together on the iSync issue. Verizon tech support told me only moments ago that the only phone they offer that will sunc with iCal is either a Treo or a Blackberry. And they aren't handing out either of them for free any time soon.

Yes, I go to Settings>Mail>Gmail. I've deleted the old Gmail account and added it back with the new password. I've also deleted the account, shut down the iPad and iPhone and then re-add the Gmail account with the new password and it still doesn't work for either device. The error messages I get are:
For the iPad: Cannot Connect Using SSL
For the iPhone: The user name or password for "imap.gmail.com" is incorrect.

Has anyone figured out how to get speech recognition working with sticky keys enabled on mountain lion?

I'm trying to use speech recognition to input text on my iMac running the latest mountain lion, 10.8.3.
I have sticky keys enabled.
When I try to start speaking by pressing the function key twice nothing happens. I can only get it to work if I disable sticky keys.
The same problem occurs with all the other modifier keys as shortcut, they do not work with sticky keys.
When I try to select a different shortcut, I am unable to select a two key combination, but am limited to one.
If I select the F6 key, or any other single key, I am able to start speech recognition. However the second time that I press the key, it does not stop recognition and process my words. Instead, it restarts the recognition.
Has anyone figured out how to get speech recognition working with sticky keys enabled?
Or a way to get an individual key shortcut to start on the first press and process it on the second?

Shortcut

To create a shortcut that’s not in the list, choose Customize, and then press the keys you want to use. You can press two or more keys to create your shortcut.

I noticed with version 10.8.4 of OS X that I am now able to select F6 to activate, and the return key to complete the speech recognition. This is still different than the description of how these should function that's included in the help, but at least it's an improvement.

I can't open any links to a PDF from within a website. Has anyone figured out how to fix problem of not able to read pdfs online? I get message that says I"nternet Explore has stopped working". ANY ideas?

Hi,
It may be that you will need to 'reset' Internet Explorer, but you can certainly check if this issue is being caused by an add-on as follows.
Click the Start Menu, open All Programs, open Accessories, open System Tools and click on 'Internet Explorer (No Add-ons)'. See if Internet Explorer now runs correctly.

Has anyone figured out how to scan to a MacBook Pro with 10.9.4 from HP officejet Pro 8600?

iMovie acts as it does, I suspect, because it's so much safer (and easier) to program.
As iMovie is now structured, each clip has a startFrame and an endFrame. They show the starting point and ending point of that clip in its source file. There's only one of each. Simple.
For us to remove a portion of the middle without splitting the clip in two, iMovie would have to allow each clip to have multiple start/end points. So iMovie would have to "remember" that the clip starts playing at frame 100, stops at frame 120, starts again at frame 150, stops at frame 200, and so on. Very complicated.
The amount of data that would be required to undo a change, for example, could become quite large, and be very, very complicated. Lots of opportunity for errors. Imagine what iMovie would have to "remember" if we could remove the middle, added a title to the clip, remove part of the title, then split the clip and applied a slow motion effect to the second part of the split.
This way is simpler, and not all that inconvenient for users, in my opinion. I prefer simple when it adds to reliability.

In YAMAHA01v96i:
Go to DIO/SETUP select Generic DAW. Go to MIDI settings page and set the desired port (personally I use Number 1), Select the same audio frequency you use in your DAW (I use 44.1KhZ)...at this point You should save a scene in you 01V96i to avoid to repeat all the procedure again.
Open studio manager, go to patch and set the input port from 17 to 32 respectively to USB1-USB16 (this will give you the return from you DAW to the 01v96i
Save again the scene overwriting the old one.
in LOGIC
Click on preferences, select Audio then select 01v96i, then click on control surface and select Mackie design Baby HUI and in the midi session set the same port that you've been setting on the Yamaha 01V96i (Port 1 if you follow this example).

Each version of Photoshop has its own installation path therefore a different application as fars as Wacom Configuration. You would need to set preferences for each Photoshop installed on your system. However if you know XML. Wacom Tablet Preference File Utility can save your Wacom preferences into an XML file. That you may be able to duplicate a Photoshop install and the change the Photoshop Path. Or just change the prion version pathe the the new Photoshop path then restore your Wacom Preferences using the modified XML preference file.
Here you see part of my wacom preferences I have set preferences for all Photoshop installed on my workstation.

Anyone figure out how to get Powershot G2 to work again after update to 1.5

All my raw files from my Powershot G2 are now "Unsupported" since the update. Has anyone figured out how to update the program to allow support for that camera again? Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks

You can get the old hack for the Canon Powershot G2 RAW support to work again on 10.4.8 and Aperture 1.5, and you do NOT need to revert back to the old 10.4.7 IO Frameworks file. The solution is to download the new 2006-01 RAW Camera Support update from Apple's web site. Here is the link version for PPC machines (which is what I have):

After you install this update, it will place a new copy of the RAW.plist file in the usual place:
/System/Library/Frameworks/ApplicationServices.framework/Frameworks/ImageIO.fram ework/Versions/Current/Resources/Raw.plist
Edit this file with the old hack, making sure to add the "" to the 1st line and save it back. A few notes on this:
1) I'm not sure whether the "" is needed, but similar items appear in all other cameras now, so no harm in adding it.
2) To place the editted version back in the library, I had to 1st move the old RAW.plist file to the trash, then copied the editted version to the library. I then restarted to allow me to delete the version in the trash (otherwise the system thinks it is still in use).
3) To be safe, I also did a repair permisssions (which did repair the permissions of the new RAW.plist file).
After this, I was able to open Powershot G2 RAW files in Aperture and PReview (have not tried iPhoto, but is shoudl also work there).

Hi All,
Has anyone figured out a way to get Snow Leopard to install and run stable on a Macbook Pro 15 Retina?
Just like Lion, Mountain Lion is flaky, and just isn't as rock solid as Snow Leopard.
Media, Finder, and a host of other system level attributes that were perfect in Snow Leopard are buggy in Mountain Lion.
Examples: Finder is weird now, and 19 full length movies that played perfectly in Snow Leopard under iTunes and my iPhone were wiped from my iPhone and deemed "not compabitle" under Mountain Lion.
As I posted when Lion came out, sometimes different is not better, it's just different. I now wish I hadn't sold my '09 Macbook Pro 17 to buy my Retina 15.
The big obstacle, of course is the fact that the Snow Leopard install doesn't have the correct drivers for video and other subsystems for my new Retina 15.
So, anyone figured out a work around?

You have got to be kidding if you think Windows 2000 was the most stable and bug free. And it quickly aged itself out of business and you could not connect any peripherals that appeared 2 years after its release. I think Windows 7 is far more stable and my second choice would be Windows XP.
Mountain Lion is running just fine on my late 2011 MPB and running fine on my 2 friends who have the rMBP. And they like to rub it in that they both have the rMBP.
And most people who rate such things claim Tiger was the most stable. You should have seen all the threads here with complaints about SL when it was released.

Has anyone figured out how to indent when using the iPad keyboard?

I am using iPad for meeting notes, but can't seem to figure out how to tab or indent when typing.

In notes all I can figure out is to put a space or two at the beginning of each line but in pages if you touch the paintbrush at the top right corner and then list, there's an indent button. In notes sometimes I'll use a – to help delineate the indent.

Has anyone figured out how to use EventCombMT to do "text" searches of server event logs? I doesn't seem to work.

I know I can do this in powershell, but gosh I don't need a complex powershell script to do what this eventcombmt gui does so easily for quick searches. I just wish I could figure out why text based searches of logs. For example, suppose
you want to search events for a user a server may have logged, if I type in "user1" nothing is retrieved and yes it's there. Searching for events works flawlessly but I can't seem to get text based searches to work.

Anyone figured out how to import P2 720p footage to FCPX?

Hello Final Cut Pro X Discussers.
Problem: Panasonic P2 720 footage of any kind cannot be imported in to FCPX.
To my knowledge, there has been a shockingly disregarded problem in FCPX where you can not import and transcode 720 resolution video from Panasonic P2 cards. MXF files to be exact.
How could Apple/Final Cut Pro team overlook this for so many versions now? What's odd is we can import 1080 footage off the same P2 cards fine, but for some reason 720, at any frame rate, creates an error and cannot be transcoded.
Has anyone found a solution to this issue?

@BenB - What format are you shooting in with P2? I have an HVX200, and when I shoot in 1080 at any frame rate, I also DO NOT have problems importing directly from camera or otherwise. However, whenever I shoot footage in 720p at ANY frame rate, I DO have problems importing.
The camera pops up in the "Import from Camera" window, I can see the clips, I can even play them, and after I select all or individual clips and hit "Import", FCPX tries importing them for a little bit and after a couple minutes an error window pops up saying there was a problem importing clip.
This happens whether I import directly from the camera, or from an archive that I copy to my local machine.
What's most surprising to me about this dilemma is the complete lack of documentation or response on the internet altogether. I see no official comment on the matter from Apple, nor Panasonic. Nor do I see reasonable alternative solutions, other than "Use FCP7 to Log&Transfer your P2", or buy one of the crappy overpriced third-party scam softwares out there.

Anyone figured out how to resolve choppy videos?

They previously worked fine. Now the audio is Ok, but video is choppy, 3-4 sec increments. I thought about buying another video to see how that one plays, but even the free preview is choppy. My system has plenty of speed and memory, whats the deal? Now that they have my money, I'm stuck with crap. I've seen other people with this problem on here, but really no answers???

Well, this is going to sound crazy, and it worked for 2 out of the 3 PC's in my house, but here is the work around.
For some reason, iTunes is getting very choppy on video I purchase. After some reading, it appears it is only choppy when the video is stored on my C: drive (could be any internal drive, but I only tested the C: drive).
SO, I tried putting an episode of LOST on a USB memory stick and on a Network Drive I have here at the house. After copying the show to the new locastions, I deleted the version in my iTunes folder. I also went in to the preferences on iTunes and under advanced UNCHECKED the "Copy Files to iTunes Music Folder When Adding to Library"(this way I was sure it was playing from the remote drives).
Then under FILE in iTunes I click Add File to Library and selected the espisode on the external locations. Took a few seconds to process the file, then it appeared in the library. Hit play, and VOILA! It was working on one desktop, and one laptop (both running Vista, both Core2Duo, Both 2gigs RAM). However, the 3rd laptop, is MUCH better, but still suffers from some stuttering.
So, basically, here is what I did in steps:
1) Copy video to remote folder
2) Delete video from iTunes folder
3) Add remote video file to iTunes Library
4) Watch and enjoy!
If you have an external USB or FireWire Drive, I am assuming this could help too. Since it only worked on 2 out of my 3 PC's, it is obviously not a fix all, but on the 2 it fixed, it really did fix it.

I have somehow linked my Apple ID and icloud ID to 2 different iphones. I need help on how to disconnect one of the iphones from my ID and give it a new one. Hopefully without losing all of the saved information on the phone (contacts, pictures, etc)

Thanks for the question. To disassociate a phone from your Apple ID and iCloud account, simply sign out of the following services:
- Settings > iCloud (When prompted, opt to keep the information on your phone)
- Settings > Messages > Send & Receive
- Settings > FaceTime
- Settings > iTunes & App Store
