  • Can anyone from Nokia please answer why Nokia Lumi...

Hi, I've just learned about the full specifications of Nokia Lumia 820 and I've come to like it more than 920. What's bothering me is why it will not be having gorilla glass, just like its predecessor, Nokia Lumia 800.
Does Nokia have any surprises for its customers regarding this matter? Does Nokia Lumia 820 have some Gorilla Glass substitute that could also protect the phone's screen? Yes, there will be ruggedized shells, but they can only offer protection to the back of the phone from how I saw it in the images.
Well, it's just disappointing. I already got so hyped up about getting either Nokia Lumia 820 or 920 but both have major disadvantages. 820 does not have gorilla glass which makes it very prone to physical damages (unless Nokia has something up its sleeve), while 920 does not have a microSD and a user-changeable battery.
It would be nice if Nokia could give us some reassurance that the durability of 820 will not be defeated by its predecessor, because it would be lame if that would be the case.
    Thank you.
    Solved!

    Hi,
As some have already stated, the screen of the Lumia 820 is made from a scratch-resistant safety glass, but in this case not Corning(TM) Gorilla Glass(TM).
Like all Nokia phones, this model has gone through extensive hardware testing before going to market, including tests to simulate the normal wear and tear of daily life, so the choice of glass used for the screen should not discourage you from buying this model if it otherwise meets your needs.

  • Does anyone from Nokia ever respond to these quest...

Why are there never any responses to the Ovi - PC Suite issue.
Even a negative response to let us know where we stand.
And why have we not got map voice routing yet??
Incredible arrogance being shown to customers

You may not be a luddite, but you are acting exceptionally naive.... that or you truly have been hiding under a rock.
Original iPhone only 65% complete/ functional.
    Palm Pre released 80% functional
    Android G1 total rubbish
even the new Google Nexus One (which is Android 2.0) can't even maintain a 3G connection on T-mobile...
This is the reality of the Marketplace devices need to go through a cycle of several firmware updates to mature.  So the moral of the story, don't buy low version numbers if your not ready to put up with some pain.
On the point of rudeness... Read my posts... I rise and sink to the level of the poster.
We don't live in a dictatorship, no one made you buy the N900.
More bits, bytes and ink have been spent on the reviews and dissection of the N900 then any device that Nokia has put out over the last 18 months.  Moaners who post pantomime lamentations, display haughty disgust at missing features, incredulous shock that their needs aren't  being serviced as if they are the center of the universe, deserve the respect accorded to Used Car Salesmen, Lawyers or Bankers ( my apologies to Used Car Salesmen, Lawyers or Bankers) ... Because they just don't get open source and the responsibility it entails.
If you spent your money on a device that does not meet your needs, look in the mirror that is the only person you have to blame.

  • How to get the most from Nokia Support Discussions

This forum is a community of users of Nokia products and services from around the world who share their experiences and help people to solve problems. I've been using this forum for a couple of years now, I originally joined because I work in telecomms and I was looking for answers to a few issues that I was experiencing, and like many of the regular members, I've been coming here ever since. There is a really good crowd here, and it is often fun to read the boards as well as informative.
If you have a problem, if nobody else can help, and if you can find us (it's not hard, Discussions all over Google whenever you search for something Nokia-related), then maybe you can hire: The D Team!
The communityThis is a peer-to-peer community, you are usually dealing with people who have an interest in mobile technology, albeit with a particular preference to Nokia, who can help on a wide range of questions - the advantage that we have as a community is that many users have experience of a range of devices and accessories, so you can often get help here about issues concerning Nokia products being used with products from other companies that even Nokia itself cannot offer. There has also recently been a presence of Nokia staff (their usernames are shown in green) who are also helping users on the forum in their own time.
Unlike many forums that we all use regularly, this is an official forum owned and run by Nokia, not the creation of amateur enthusiasts like you and I, so they are much more strict about behaviour than other forums, and the moderators will remove anything that is offensive or disrespectful to other users, or which may cause offence to users of a sensitive nature. Basically, you should treat other users the way you could treat another member of the public in a public place - too many people take advantage of the anonymity offered by the internet to behave in a way that they would not normally do.
This forum is not a source of official support from Nokia, for that you have to call or e-mail from the "Contact us" link. Most of us are just normal consumers like you, therefore we don't have information on when products, services, software updates etc. will be available so it's futile to ask. Nokia doesn't even publish this information in most cases, so even the Nokia employee members probably wouldn't be able to answer these sorts of questions even if they do have the information.
Tips for getting your question answered:
     (1) Search firstSomebody else may already have posted the same question, so you can save yourself time by checking first if the answer you need is already published on the forum.
    (2) Choose the right boardPeople are online at different times, we may be taking a break from our work, relaxing at home after a meal, flicking back to the forum whilst doing other surfing on the 'net or anything else, and people will look in boards where they have a specific personal interest so, for example, if you have a problem playing a video on your N96 use the Imaging and videos board in the Ovi and Mobile Media section or if you have a problem installing themes or applications on your 6220 Classic, use the Phone Applications under Software. Posting these questions on the Nseries and S60 smartphones board might see them get lost amongst lots of technical questions about the phone itself, you have a better chance of getting an answer by choosing the right place to ask it.
    (3) Write a clear titleSpeaking for myself, I don't have time to read everything on the boards, so I look for topics that I might be able to answer; therefore don't just put the subject as a phone model number or the name of an application or users might just pass over your post without opening it to read. For example, a title like "Can't get GPS signal in 5800" is much more likely to catch the attention of an experienced GPS user or a 5800 user and get the question answered quicker.
    (4) Explain your problem clearlyPhones and the software that we use in them and with them grow ever more complex, just saying "I can't send an SMS" or "Mr camera isn't working" does not give any information with which an experienced user can help you to troubleshoot. Whatever the case, explain exactly what you are trying to achieve, what you tried, and describe what happened, for example: did an application shut itelf down? Did the phone freeze? Was there an error message, and if so what was it? All of this will help other users to identify what is going wrong for you and the less questions they have to ask you back, the quicker they might help you.
Tips for making the right impression:
     (5) Use normal textWRITING ENTIRELY IN CAPITALS does not convey a sense of urgency, in internet communities it is perceived as shouting or other generally agressive behaviour, so it will not win the hearts and minds of the people whose help you need. Also, using large characters or bright colours may look nice to you, but too much text written in very large, bold or colourful letters can simply fill the screen unnecessarily and is not always any easier to read, so it can also put people off from helping you. Use these features when you need to highlight a particular point, not all of the time.  (6) Resize imagesIf you are embedding a picture in your post, resize it so that it fits into the frame of the normal page. A full screenshot of your PC or a megapixel+ picture will stretch the borders of the page so far that people have to scroll left and right repeatedly to read not only your post, but the entire page of the thread that it is on, and just as above, if you make it difficult for others to read the thread, they could miss some information or just pass over it altogether. If you want to share a large image, you can also add it as an attachment to the post so that people can view it when they choose without impacting on the display of the page for everybody.
    (7) Pleeeeaaaaazzzzeeee don't do thisFar from making most users take pity on you and try to help you, this kind of thing can be just as bad as all capitals, especially is you make a word so long that it affects the display of the page like inserting large images does. You are also better off not using SMS shorthand and local slang in your posts, because users of the boards are from all over the world and might be speaking English as a second, third, etc. language, so the person who knows the exact solution to your question might not understand the way you have asked it.

You mention it is a DV/HDV Film - how did you edit it? Did you edit both formats on the same timeline in Final Cut? (What were the settings in Final Cut for the timeline?)
If you are using HDV in a timeline due to the length of time to conform the output, you may be better off exporting the entire thing for testing (small enough for HDV, though I often use AIC or 422 nowadays).
What settings are you using in Compressor? I know you mentioned many combinations, but did you use any frame controls? What was the rate? Did you use CBR/VBR?
One thing to try to get things started. Use 8 CBR and in the frame controls set them to to "Better" for all of them. Will take a bit longer using the filters but should give you an idea where you are at. (Also take a look at the self contained movie to see if there are any artifacts/picels there).
How are you watching the DVD - computer screen or burning to a DVD?

    Hi
Do you mean that the download and installation of the DRM component fails, or tracks from Nokia Music Store?

  • Txt from Nokia to say an update is available, but ...

Last night I got a text from "My Nokia" which said:
"A software update for your device is available from Nokia. Visit www.nokia.com/softwareupdate or your local Nokia support pages for more details."
I've been waiting for v6.xx for my phone for a while now, so I got excited and plugged my phone up and tried to update. Nope, v4.84 is the latest!
Just to make double sure, I checked the URL supplied in the text, and put my product code in - and it too told me v4.84 was the latest.
I can't download the phone software with my phone, because I get the message "Update not allowed. Contact service provider."
    Nice. Thanks a bunch, Nokia!

  • Anyone got Nokia Music to work with (recognise) N9...

Several times over the last months I have tried to get Nokia Music to work with my N95 8GB.
Every time I have spent hours and hours installing, upgrading, uninstalling etc etc but never success.
The Nokia Music PC software will not recognize my phone.
No matter what kind of connection i choose when i connect the phone - PCSuite, Mediaplayer etc, none of them makes the Nokia Music recognise the phone.
I am currently running Windows XP SP3, PC-suite 7.1.30.9, Nokia Music 1.3.20716.09, phone firmware is 31.0.015, phone code is 0550372
I am (_again_) dead tired of this, and for the moment (again) I truely hate Nokia PC software.
Has anyone got Nokia Music to work with N95 8GB?
    Regards,
    Njål
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

     Hi Njaale
Yes - it is working fine for me on a n95-
You need to connect your n95 in Media player mode.
You have  1.3.20716.09  but the latest version is - 1.3.2072
    1) You can get the latest version from here - http://musicstore.nokia.com/download.aspx
    2) If you are having licencing issue it could be because of the drm folder . If step one does not work try to delete the drm folder - C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\DRM . You need to make sure that hidden files and folders are not hidden and also that protected operating system files are not hidden.
    To see hidden files:
    1.
On the Tools menu in Windows Explorer, click Folder Options.
    2.
    Click the View tab.
    3.
Under Hidden files and folders, click Show hidden files and folders.
Oh and just to be sure you are using nokia music
Here is a picture of it - http://www.slashphone.com/media/data/766/nokia_music.jpg
You can see in that picture on the left hand side is the phone you drag and drop your music into that phone picture to transfer your music.
Nokia pc suite below does not transfer nokia music
    picutre - http://tltc.shu.edu/mobile/Nokia-PC-Suite_1.png
This is because the software in the first link (nokia music) is designed to recognise "DRM" software. But nokia PC suite in the second link does not currently do that.

  • Unwanted marketing text and "tips" from Nokia

About 2 years ago, I got a Nokia n95 8GB phone. I registered it with Nokia at the time.
I am no longer using a Nokia phone, but I am still  getting text message "tips" about how to use this ancient phone.
I have recently started getting texts about OVI (whatever that is) and Nokia Maps.
The texts come from blank number, so I cannot even reply saying "unsubscribe".
I have contacted Nokia Customer Care by email, and they insisted that I provide my IMEI number. I jumped through a few hoops with my previous Network to get the IMEI (I no longer have the phone) and still Nokia haven't been able to resolve it.
Has anyone got an idea how I can stop this? I am really sick of getting texts in the middle of there night from Nokia.

Hi Bobbage, I've asked the Nokai Care UK time to look again at your case, let us know if you don't hear anything shortly.

  • Transferring Music Bought from Nokia Music Store u...

I have bought music from Nokia’s Music Store (specifically, on the Finnish ‘Nokia Musiikkikauppa’). I have downloaded the music files to my computer, and would like to transfer them to my phone, a Nokia N82. In order to do that, I have tried to use Nokia Music Manager (v2.0). I am able to find the songs I downloaded on my PC in the ‘My Collection’ section of Nokia Music Manager, and I can see my phone ‘N82’ in the list below. However, when I go to File -> Copy to Phone, the ‘Copy to Phone’ line is greyed-out, and I cannot use that function. This makes no sense to me. Can it really be that I cannot use ‘Nokia Music Manager’ to transfer music I bought at the ‘Nokia Music Store?’
I partially suspect that this is indeed the case. From the Nokia Music Store help section, I have read “You need to use [Windows Media Player] in order to be able to play, burn and transfer the DRM-protected WMA files from Nokia Music Store.” From this, it would seem that only Windows Media Player can be used to transfer Nokia Music Store music to Nokia phones. However, I simply find it beyond belief that Nokia’s own music manager software cannot be used to transfer music bought from Nokia’s own music store to Nokia’s own devices.
Can anyone shed light on this case?

i had this problem, try doing it through the windows media player. i cannot remember exactly how i did it in the end but i did burn the music to a disc and i'm wondering if i loaded it from the cd in the end?

Nope. I remember u have asked for the same type of question in another thread. U can get ur answer from there.
To sign a midlet, u need to have a valid certificate. Valid certificate stands for those certificates that are get recognized by the inbuilt security system of the device. You can get a certificate from either Forum Nokia or Verisign or some other that kind of authority only.
