Anyone get a 2TB+ size HD to work with the E3000??

Have a 3TB GoFlex Seagate USB drive that ain't working. Is there ANY large HD's that DO work with this fricking thing? Absurd that there's a limit on the drive size for this thing....just absurd....

It's not even showing the drive under Computer. The led lights on the unit don't power up when connected to the router, yet the router see's it's there but not the right size.
I tried reformatting connecting it to the PC directly,to NTFS and that didn't help. It comes to life connected to my PC,but when I connect it to the router, nothing. The LED's go out and nothing shows up under My Computer (Vista). I've tried rebooting the router, unplugging it then plugging the HD in then rebooting. Nothing I've done works. It's not showing anything for format, just a * and it's a 3TB drive but it's only showing under a TB. This shouldn't be this hard to setup, seriously. Plug it in,it recognizes it,set up the shared folders and done.

    Hello,
Kind of funny, the 3 TB isn;tsupported for BootCamp!?
    Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to configure Fusion Drive?
When ordered with a Fusion Drive, your iMac or Mac mini is pre-configured.
Can external USB, FireWire, or Thunderbolt hard drives be added to Fusion Drive?
An external drive cannot be used as part of a Fusion Drive volume. Fusion Drive is designed to work with an internal hard disk drive and internal flash storage.
Can I add a partition to the hard disk with Fusion Drive?
Using Disk Utility, you can add one partition to the hard disk on Fusion Drive. Once you add the partition, the "plus" symbol in Disk Utility to add additional partitions will be grayed out. You cannot partition the Flash storage.
If I create a hard disk partition is it part of Fusion Drive?
The additional partition is not part of Fusion Drive. The new partition is a separate volume that is physically located on the hard disk drive.
Can I add a Windows partition?
You can create one additional partition on the hard disk with Fusion Drive. You can create either a Mac OS X partition or a Windows partition.
If creating a Windows partition, use Boot Camp Assistant to create it, not Disk Utility. From the Go menu, choose Utilities. Then, double-click Boot Camp Assistant and follow the onscreen instructions. For more information on Boot Camp see the Boot Camp support page.
Note: Boot Camp Assistant is not supported at this time on 3TB hard drive configurations.

If yes, how does it work for you?
    thanks,
    Apple //GS

I can't remember where I read it, but apparently it is possible to "fool" a computer into accepting Leopard.
It requires installing Leopard onto an external HDD using a computer that does meet the specs for Leopard. I think you have to use a firewire HDD.
Then connect the external HDD to the computer that does not meet the specs for Leopard and boot from the external HDD. Or one can then download Leopard from the external HDD to the computer. It's supposed to work because you're bypassing the code on the installation disk or something.
I don't know why one would want to run Leopard on anything else but what Apple says. I would think that it would run poorly and not all functions would work.

  • Does anyone know a USB WIFI connection that works with the Intel Powerbook and OS 10.7.5

I have replaced my AIRPORT EXTREME card because it dropped connection and wouldn't turn back on.
It worked fine for 14 months, but now it is broken again.
    I have given up.
I would rather replace a 20-30 dongle everytime rather than the airportexpress card.

that should say a $20-$30 dongle.

  • HT4587 I downloaded Airport Express Utility 5.6 to get my Airport Express to work with the latest Mac OSX 10.7.4, but when I install and run it, it still says my Airport Express is out-of-date and needs the 5.6 utility.

It is likely that you downloaded AirPort Utility 5.6.1.  If you checked the requirements, this only runs on Leopard or Snow Leopard Macs.
You have Lion, so you need AirPort Utility 5.6 for Mac OS X Lion

  • Recommend a similar product to 'FAN MATE' that works with the MoBOs 12V PS?

    Hi,
    Have just got a K8N SLI Platinum Mobo. It has a very noisey chipset fan and I am trying to decide on which option to solve the problem;
1)Replace with a quiter fan. (Good choice - requires removing the MoBo)
2)Replace with a heatsink or HSF. (As Above)
3)Connect the existing fan up a Zalman 'Fan Mate' to slow down the fan speed, thereby reducuing the dBs.
At the moment the 'Fan Mate' seems to be the easiest, cheapest and least intrusive solution. Though I see a problem with it,  to quote the Zalman website:
"...Do not use FAN MATE 1 with a fan having a start up voltage of more than 5V...."
That statement would seem to rule out the present chipset fan because it is connected to the MoBos 12V PS.
Can anyone recommend a similar product that will work with the MoBOs 12V PS?

Hi there, I too have the K8N Platinum SLI with a rather vocal northbridge fan. I have used a Fanmate 2 to slow the little begger down to 5000rpm, at which point I find the noise is OK. My Antec P160 comes with two temperature probes that give readings on the front display, I have squeezed one of these between the fan mount and the heatsink.
Before using the fanmate the average temp was 39 DegC, now the average temp is 41DegC.
I had a look at www.quietpc.com, to me it says that if you turn the fanmate right the way down, some fans may not start up as they require more than 5V to start, but I doubt you would need to slow it down that much.
"Finally, when using the FANMATE 2 at its minimum speed setting, you must ensure that the fan has a minimum startup voltage specification of not more than 5 volts. Otherwise, the Fan Mate will not give a high enough voltage to get the fan started from rest. Before finalising your installation, please test that all FANMATE 2-connected fans successfully start when you first power on the system. If you are using the FANMATE 2 with any of our Ultra-Quiet fans, you do not need to worry about this point because all our Ultra-Quiet fans are guaranteed to start at 5 volts."
    Hope this helps

  • Problems getting an external hard drive to work on the new Airport Extreme

I have spent hours trying to get my 320GB external hard drive to work with the new airport extreme 802.11N. I have spent hours pouring over all of the posts here discussing possible solutions, all of which have not worked. This morning, however, I gave it another try and FINALLY, I have it working. I tried something simple. Here it is:
Using the Apple Disk Utility Program, I formated my drive using the MS-DOS mode, called my Hard drive "ItunesHD". It took about 20 minutes to complete (i'm assuming because of the size of the drive). I then unplugged the router and hard drive, turned on the hard drive, then the router. After my macbook pro reconnected, I clicked on the iDisk utility icon in my menu bar, provided my password and FINALLY saw the network drive icon on my desktop!!! It seems that formatting my drive using MS-DOS compatibility mode finally worked for me. I'm not saying this will work for anyone else who is having this problem, but you can at least try it. I tried all of the MAC formatting options and have had no luck.
What I would like to know now is (..if anyone has these answers, please let me know):
    1. What is the maximum SINGLE drive capacity that this router will understand...500GB, 1TB, 2TB? I would like to get the biggest bang for my buck.
    2. Keeping #1 one in mind, I purchased an Apple TV (still waiting on it to arrive) and I would like to know if it will read multiple hard drives connected to the Airport Extreme router (...say (2) 500GB hard drives). I know you can have multiple libraries in iTunes (which to me is a cheesy solutions, there should be an option in the preferences that would allow you to save your music in one place and your movies in another). Anybody have any idea on this one?
I basically want to rip all of my dvd movies on a big hard drive connected to my airport extreme to use with my AppleTV , so I just need to find out about the maximum size and hooking up more than one hard drive and getting the AppleTV to recognize them all.

MacBook Pro Core Duo Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Sorry you had so much trouble hooking up a hard drive to the base station. I've done some experimenting with the feature and this is what I've found out.
You can use either the native Mac format, Mac OS Extended, or the Microsoft format known as FAT. Apple calls FAT, MS-DOS File System in Disk Utility.
If you use Mac OS Extended, the Macs on the network will be able to connect to the drive using the native AFP (Apple File Protocol) or the Microsoft native SMB (Server Message Block) protocol. PCs will only use the SMB protocol of course.
If you use MS-DOS File System both the Macs and the PCs will only use SMB to connect to the drive over the network.
Basically I've found everything works as expected with regard to volumes connected to a network.
One thing I don't have installed is the iDisk Utility. I'm wondering if it may be the cause of the problems you were having. But reading through your post it may also be the difference between expected behaviour and the proper procedure for discovering and mounting network volumes. Let me explain.
You only mention having trouble getting the drive to show up on your Desktop, you didn't describe how you went about discovering the network drive. It isn't just suppose to show up on your desktop when you plug it in to the Extreme base station. It doesn't work like the iDisk or disks connected directly to your computer using USB/Firewire.
Normally with network drives you're suppose to either browse for them using the Network icon in the Finder or using the Connect to Server command in the Finder's Go menu, you would type the address in directly for the network volume you want to mount. Try it and see what happens.
Now to answer your other questions.
I don't have a volume large enough to hit any limits the base station may have but I did read a post about someone who said they had a 1.5 TB volume connected and could only see 1 TB of it. They were forced to partition the drive to see all available space and of course the volumes showed up as two separate drives. One thing wasn't made clear though. They didn't say what volume format they were using to format the drive, Mac OS Extended or MS-DOS.
Everything having to do with the AppleTV is just speculation at this point since no one has one yet but from what has been demonstrated so far, AppleTV relies on iTunes. In other words, it won't pull data from network volumes on its own, a computer running iTunes needs to feed it.

  • How to get JDev 10.1.2/ADF working with MS SQL Server Identity Column

    Hello JDevTeam & JDevelopers,
I want to use JDev/ADF with a MS SQL Server 2005 database that contains tables employing IDENTITY Columns.
Using JDev/ADF and DBSequence with an Oracle database employing before triggers/sequences accomplishes what I am trying to do except I want to accomplish the same thing using a MSSQL Server 2005 database. Unfortunately I cannot change the database.
I have been able to select records but I am unable to insert records (due to my lack of knowledge) when using MS/SQL Server Identity Columns with JDev/ADF.
The following are the steps taken thus far.
Step1: Create table named test in the 2005 MSSQL Server (see script below).
    Step2: Register 3rd Party JDBC Driver with JDeveloper; Using use Tools/Manage Libraries. Create a new entry in User Libraries with the following;
         Library Name     = Ms2005Jdbc
         Class Path     = C:\dev\Ms2005Jdbc\sqljdbc_1.0\enu\sqljdbc.jar
(note: Latest TYPE 4 JDBC driver for Microsoft SQL Server 2005 - free at http://msdn.microsoft.com/data/ref/jdbc/)
    Step3:Create New Database Connection;
         Connection Name = testconn1
Type = Third Party JDBC Driver
Authentication Username = sa, Password = password, Check Deploy Password
         Connection
              Driver Class = com.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.SQLServerDriver
              Library = Ms2005Jdbc
              Classpath = C:\dev\Ms2005Jdbc\sqljdbc_1.0\enu
              URL = jdbc:sqlserver://192.168.1.151:1433;instanceName=sqlexpress;databaseName=test
         Test Connection = Success!
Step5: Create a new application workspace using Web Application default template
Step6: In Model project, Create new Business Components Diagram.
Step7: Create new Entity Object. Goto to connections/testconn1, open tables and drag table test onto the diagram.
Step8: Generate Default Data Model Components by right-clicking on Entity Object. Except all the defaults.
When I test the Appmodule I select the view object and can scroll through all the records without error. If I try to insert a record, I get JBO-27014: Attribute testid in test is required.
Going back to the EntityObject I deselect the Mandatory attribute and re-run the test. Now when I try to insert it accepts the value for testname but it does not update the PK testid like it would using an "JDev/ADF/DBSequence/Oracle database/before trigger/sequence" solution.
Going back to the EntityObject and selecting refresh on insert does not solve this problem either. Changing the URL connection string and adding "SelectMethod=cursor" did not help and changing the SQl Flavor to SQLServer produced errors in the Business Components Browser. I've tried overriding isAttributeChanged() and other things as well.
I am totally stuck! Can anyone provide a solution?
    Thanks for you help,
    BG...
    Create table named test
    use [testdb]
    go
    set ansi_nulls on
    go
    set quoted_identifier on
    go
    create table [test](
         [testid] [int] identity(0,1) not null,
[testname] [nvarchar](50) collate sql_latin1_general_cp1_ci_as not null,
    constraint [pk_test] primary key nonclustered
         [testid] asc
    )with (pad_index = off, ignore_dup_key = off) on [primary]
    ) on [primary]

    Figured it out!
When using the MS SQL Server 2000 Database with the MS JDBC 2000 Driver you specify the SQL Flavor to SQLServer. However setting the SQL Flavor to SQLServer with MS SQL Server 2005 Database and the MS JDBC 2005 Driver will *** fail ***.
When working with the MS SQL Server 2005 Database and the MS JDBC 2005 Driver you set the SQL Flavor to SQL92 and the Type Map to Java.
If using a named instance like I am you would specify the URL = jdbc:sqlserver://<db host ip address>:<listening port>;instanceName=<your instance name>;selectMethod=cursor;databaseName=<your database name> (note: leave out the < >)
The 2005 Driver Class is different then the 2000 and is specified as com.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.SQLServerDriver
Note: In a default MS SQL Server 2005 installation the listening port will change *** everytime *** the host is restarted! You can override this though.
For the primary key you need to deselect the Mandatory attribute in the EntityObject editor.
Set Refresh on insert/update = no.
    Set Updateable = never.
Now my Primary Keys which get their values from the Identity Column are working with ADF in a predictable way.
Simple enough but I have been away from this stuff for awhile.
