Anyone getting acceptable D700 NEF conversions with Aperture?

I got home from photographing an afternoon wedding today and nearly ****** myself when I pulled up the files in Aperture: most of the pictures taken outside appeared overexposed by a stop or two, looked horribly desaturated, and suffered from serious white balance problems. "Highlight hot zones" lit up half the image in red. I had been keeping my blinkies under control during the shoot, and the images looked fine when I spot checked them during the day, so I suspected that Aperture was doing something wonky. I exported several of the masters and opened them up in Raw Photo Processor, my benchmark raw converter. Sure enough, they looked fine. Aperture is screwing up the raw conversion.
It was particularly interesting how the embedded JPEG that initially popped up looks fine, and then Aperture's subsequent raw conversion looked terrible.
I'm running up-to-date everything: 10.5.5, latest camera raw update, etc.
Is anyone getting acceptable D700 NEF conversions? If so, what are you doing differently?

If Preview is showing the same behaviour, then it's not Aperture itself but rather the Camera Raw 2.2.
To clarify the "similar output" statement I made with respect to the RAW conversions:
ViewNX - straight off it looked like what I wanted with minimal tweaking, as it read the NEF file secret sauce instructions such as tweaked saturation. Was not as good at fixing highlights and shadows though in the case of problematic shots but produced excellent detail
ACR - produced good middle-of-the-road that by comparison to ViewNX was a little under-saturated or lacked "pop" (but I couldn't finger any particular aspect). By cranking up the saturation and laying with white point, black point etc could arrive at a similar appearance outcome to ViewNX.
Aperture - seemed to produce a shot more like ViewNX and allowed big latitude in adjustments, especially pulling detail out of shadows without blowing out the photo. Auto exposure was surprisingly useful. Level of detail perhaps not quite as good as ViewNX, but had to be looking at 400% blowup onscreen to pick it, and even then the diff could have been put down to the level of default sharpening.
I hadn't heard of RPP, but will give it a go.
Meanwhile, you're stuck in no-man's land... Here's hoping Apple fixes the 2.2 bug in 2.3 and you can finally do the RAW processing!

Has anyone successfully tethered a Nikon D7000 with Aperture 3.1?

Hi,
I have a new Nikon D7000 and tried to tether it to Aperture 3.1. Aperture recognizes it as a D7000, but I can't get an image to display. I'm outputting JPEG right now and can wait until RAW is available, but it would be convenient to tether so I can get immediate feedback on the image while I'm shooting.
Has anyone had success tethering the D7000 with Aperture 3 or is the software not there yet? I'm talking about having the image immediately downloaded to the iMac and automatically displayed after you take each photo, not downloading at the end of the day.

UPdate - the key was opening a new project in Aperture 3. Once I did that, Aperture recognized the D7000 and I could shoot from the camera and have it displayed immediately on the iMac.
It works right out of the box. Yea!!!

The only way I know of is to copy the entire content of your chat window (while it is still active) and then paste it into a text document (or, if it is short enough to fit the window without scrolling, take a screenshot). Once you terminate the chat, the record is gone (as far as I know).

RAW conversion with Aperture

Has anyone compared the quality of RAW conversion of Aperture vs. Nikon Capture as well as other converters?
I really like the quality of nikon capture and would not want to purchase aperture unless the conversion was at least equivalent.

I've compared Aperture's conversion side by side with Adobe Camera Raw's. My method was to do some conversions with Camera Raw and save the result along with the RAW file. Then, in the Apple Store, I performed the conversions using Aperture.
The results from Aperture are not good. They look okay at reduced size, but if you look more closely, the de-mosaicing Aperture performs is quite bad. On some images it is only "somewhat" worse than Camera Raw; on others it is so bad as to be unusable. Shadow detail suffers the most, but highlights are not immune. Some images showed color fringing that was not present in the Camera Raw conversion, even with all chromatic aberration adjustments set to zero in Camera Raw.
I ignored differences in color and tonal rendering because I did not have enough time with Aperture to learn to get the best results out of it in terms of color. It takes a while to figure out how to get good color out of a RAW converter.
In no case was Aperture as good as Adobe Camera Raw in terms of image quality. The difference was immediately obvious at 100% magnification.
I would not use Aperture for RAW conversion.
EDIT: I forgot to mention, in case it matters, my camera is a Nikon D2X.

Anyone get BSOD on vista computers with 8,0 without HP printers?

I have a laptop but I print wirelessly thru a network with HP printers on main computer..running vista 64 on laptop anyone getting a BSOD that doesnt have HP printers attached? thanks

I get a BSOD w/out HP Printers attached. It appears to happen when I connect the phone before vista has completed 'starting' after a reboot, and when ITunes isn't first launched before I connect the USB cable.

Can anyone recommend and mouse to use with Aperture?

I have been using the Apple Mighty mouse with my iMac and am looking for a replacement. I have a lot of trouble using the right click on the mouse and am fed-up with it.
I want something bluetooth that will not take up one of my USB ports. I have set the third button to expose all windows as I frequently switch between applications and I like this function with the big screen I have.
Aperture and Photoshop are my main applications so I’m looking for something that is going integrate with those well. I want to be able to zoom and scroll around pictures with ease.
Does anyone have any recommendations?

I am using a Logitech VX Revolution, actually a wireless notebook mouse but I have small hands, so prefer the smaller size over a regular size.
Apart from the size (which is an individual feature and there is a normal sized version called MX Revolution) it should fit most of your needs. It has six buttons a four way scroll function and a zoom slider. Using the Steermouse 3rd party mouse driver (Logitech's one is known to cause problems) you can individually set all buttons and functions of the mouse systemwide and for specific applications. Speed and accuracy is more than sufficient for my needs.
Only thing is that it uses a proprietary wireless dongle, so you still lose one of your USB ports.
Microsoft also produces good mice (imho their hardware is a lot better than their software , even some with real BT support (they still come with a dongle but you don't have to use it). However, from what I've heard, sometimes it can be a little bit tricky to get them to work with Mac OS X.

Anyone get X99S Gaming 7 working with an XP941?

This FB post by MSI seems to indicate that an XP941 would work well with a new X99S board, but I can't get my new Gaming 7 board to even recognize that it has the drive in the M.2 slot. Has anyone gotten this board/drive combination working? I'm trying to figure out if the drive or the motherboard is faulty or maybe if the bios just isn't compatible with it yet.
Before you ask, yes I have the latest bios available on the download page, which supposedly adds support for more m.2 devices. I assume that with the popularity of the Samsung m.2 drives, the XP941 must be tested/working by now. Anyone know?

I bought two MSI x99s SLI PLUS, in part because I wanted to use the XP941 and it was recommended by MSI
One of the board strangely was not offering any XMP settings, on the first one when booting to UEFI it would display an XMP button, on the first board I activated it, on the second one it was just not available even if the exact same ram was used (Corsair vengeance DDR4 2800). When installing windows I noticed the XP941 was showing up, I was very happy and basically assumed the other one was defective.
The RAM thing kept being annoying me though and I noticed in MSI Intel extreme utility that when running the RAM stress test it would just fill 3112MB of memory rather than the whole 16GB, I thought maybe my RAM was defective in some way so I plugged the first workstation back and turned it on and ran the stress test on it again only to notice it would not fill the RAM on this system either. Happy that this was normal I rebooted disable XMP and entered 2666 as the speed leaving the processor at base value, this way both station would be identical.
That's where the magic happened, the XP941 suddenly showed up in the disk management utility and I was able to format it.
I still cannot booth from it though but as far as my needs are concerned using it as a data drive is all I wanted.
the 2nd problem remain; why is one board offering me an XMP option and not the other, should I worry about having defective RAM? (BIOS version are identical 1.10, the latest).

Problem opening D700 nef files with ACR 4.6

Hi there,
I am running PS CS3 on a Mac with OS 4.11. I have just down loaded the beta version of adobe camera raw 4.6 - normally I don't down load betas but I am desperate to work on my D700 files in PS CS3. And I still can't open the RAW files...ACR 4.6 won't recognize the 'NEFs'...I have followed the instructions about replacing the plug in as per the release notes. Yet I still can't open the files. I love PS, please help.

Ok I went to the location and found this:
mac/library/application support/adobe/plug-ins/cs3/file formats/dng_cameraraw_4-6_091708.dmg
It turns out that it was here all along - I put in camera raw as two words and not one when I asked the finder and I put the exact name of the camera raw update so you can see it.
I must still be doing something wrong as its still not reading the NEFs from either my Nikon D700 or the NEFs from a D200 that I had before I switched to the D700.
I will go and check the path again - I do not know what else to do.

Does anyone get on the 4G network with Rogers with iPhone 5?

Last week I upgraded from a Galaxy S3 to iPhone 5. On my S3 I was always on the 4G network. With my new iPhone 5 I can only get on the 3G network. Does anyone know why?

Thank you for your answer. How would I know if the nano SIM is provisioned for 4G/LTE? It is the SIM they sent me with the phone. I do have the LTE selector switch set to ON.

No, i don't have iTunes Match or iCloud activated for my Music Library (iTunes), I do have "Genius" syncing.
I usually runs slower when trying to add new music or when opening an album info.

If you backed up your phone to iTunes after you received the messages but before you deleted them, you can restore your phone to that back up. If not, I believe they are gone forever.

Outlook 2007 - Can anyone get this to work?

Just wondering if anyone had success with this, it's really frustrating that the Oracle connector doesn't work with Outlook 2007.

I've tried to get this to work on several machine configurations (Office 2007 with and with out Office 2003) using the latest Connector for Outlook on Windows XP and Windows Vista and was still unable to get it to work. I'm 100% convinced that Oracle needs to work on this ASAP and I'm even more astonished and perplexed that Oracle have not provided a solution for their customers. This has pushed me to the point where MSExchange, even Novell are being consider as a permanent alternative. Let's face it, Exchange does seem that they finally got their act together and offers a lot of flexibility for Mobility.
I've spent about 80+ hours on this and have permanently given up until I hear back from the Oracle developers, who doesn't seem to have a solution readily available to give provide. I'm interested in anyone's comments about their conversations with Oracle.

Error -50 - Syncing iPhone photos with aperture

Hi,
The facts:
OS - 10.7 Lion
iTunes - 10.4
iOS - 4.3.5
So when I updated to Lion and iTunes 10.4 my photos from Aperture will no longer sync with my phone. I get the error (-50), which to my understanding is a time out error. Now when I sync with iPhoto it works, no error.
Any help with getting my iPhone to sync with Aperture would be appreciated.

Nik PLug-ins with Aperture

Greetings, This is for anyone using Nik Software plug-ins with Aperture. Is there a way to back out of adjustments once you've saved your work in the Nik editor? When using with Photoshop, the Nik adjustment will create a "layer". Deselecting the layer will allow you to essentially remove the adjustment. I don't see any way of doing that in Aperture. Am I missing it, or are you basically down the road with the adjustment once you make it?

Once you save in NIK, the adjustments are "baked in." There's no way to go back and remove them. What NIK does is save the TIFF file that Aperture creates and hands over to it, with the NIK adjustments. This won't affect the original RAW file.
You could always go back and send that same TIFF file to NIK an indefinite number of times. It wouldn't really be "non-destructive" but you can re-do or tweak any adjustments you want to tweak.
