Anyone getting GOOD battery performance on 4S?

There are lots of threads on poor performance and what to do about it... but is anyone getting performance that is close to the specifications that Apple advertises?
200hrs standby and some calls/web could equal a charge every few days. Who can go Monday morning to Thursday Morning without a charge and still use thir phone normally?

I think that is impssible. I can go nearly two days with one charge on my 4S but I only make one or two calls a day and use data more than anything.
I have had every iPhone since the original and the longest I could go was two days and that was with no use.

  • Is there anyone with *better* battery performance on the 3GS?

OK, there are a lot of posts complaining about the 3GS battery life. I'm now curious to find out if there's a bad batch of batteries, or if it's a software issue involving all iPhone 3GS.
My question: is there anyone out there who's getting better battery performance on the 3GS when compared to the 3G, as advertised by Apple?
I understand that there are at least 3 kinds of battery issues showing up in this forum:
    1. abysmal battery life caused by Exchange Push acting up
    2. defective battery
    3. "it seems a little worse than the 3G, something must be wrong"
There's nothing that can be done for categories 1 and 2, and I think it's interesting to talk about case 3.
Could it be that the 3GS battery indicator is simply more linear (and better calibrated) than the one on the 3G? I am one of those people experiencing subjectively worse battery life on my 3GS when compared to the 3G. But then I stopped and asked myself how I actually measure this.
Well, the difference is that the 3G stays at 100% much longer, then starts to go down very quickly. The 3GS, on the other hand, doesn't like staying at 100% and starts going down earlier but slower. But if I let them both drain, the performance at the end of the day will probably seem similar.
I tried to drain my 3GS with some heavy Safari surfing over WiFi and 3G, 30 minutes of 3G calls, using some third party apps, and with a 1-hour Peggle play. Then I finally played some videos, and it went dead after 5 hours of usage and 15 hours of stand by.
Is that the performance that can be expected, or can we hope for more? I never did the same test on the 3G, because I never noticed the battery meter going down like that, but I'm pretty sure it would turn out quite similar.
    What do you think?

Battery performance depends on what you have running on your iPhone.
e.g. If you have Brightness set to high (or full) with Auto Dimming Disabled, Locations Services, Push Notification (set Fetch to Manually), Bluetooth, Wi-Fi (ask to join networks enabled too) and 3G all enabled your battery will get used a lot quicker, especially if you use Third Party Apps on top of all these other things.
If however you activate Wi-Fi when you want to use it, or Bluetooth etc as your needs require, battery performance will be better (as in your battery will last longer before requiring a charge). If you are on a low 3G coverage area, why have your iPhone constantly trying to join a 3G network? Switch 3G off and use the conventional carrier (2G) until you return to an area where you know 3G coverage is better.
I know these measures are less convenient than just having everything switched on, but if you want to maximise battery use between charges try activating the features you require when you require them, then disable them when you don't require them instead of having everything switched on permanently.
I have noticed when Push is enabled (3G has to be enabled also), it absolutely canes the battery

  • Getting good battery life

Hey guys, so I have a new macbook pro 15 inch, and I am wondering if I should do somethign first to it maybe the calibaration to get good batter life? I just charged it all night, and I am in class, and just doing webbrowsing, it is saying that I only have 3 hours left? Not sure why, but that number should be higher right? the brightness is on low and everything.

The time Apple quotes for use on battery power requires that Airport, bluetooth are turned off, no externals are connected, no cd in the drive, etc. As soon as you use these or headphones, mouse, etc your available time will be lessened considerably. Tasks that you have it doing can also affect performance, especially any that involve much reference to the internal drive or heavy processing.
Calibration is primarily to have more accurate stats. It sets the original actual capacity of the battery and enables calculations & comparisons to be more accurate. I'm not sure that it actually improves the life of the battery, rather it enables a more accurate estimate of condition & performance to be given.

  • Who is getting good lightroom performance and what is your system setup?

First of all, I think that most people are innoculated to terrible performance in lightroom. Many people running lightroom for a living are using incredibly fast machines and still having performance issues. There is something wrong with this picture!
    Here are my system specs
i7 950 running a 3.3 ghz, 12gb ram, 1gb nvidia gts 450 graphics, windows 7 64 botting off of a crucial m4 ssd. My catalog is on the ssd along with preview files. My raw files and raw cache are on a raid 0 drive.
The terrible performance that drives me nuts simple things like cropping photos. In a given day of editing I might crop and rotate 500 files. This should be a fluid piece of lightroom's interface. In adobe camera raw hosted in bridge or photoshop cropping and straigtening photos was fluid on my 10 year old computer (and is perfectly fine on my current machine), but in lightroom sometimes it's smooth, and sometimes their is a bunch of lag when initially trying to crop or rotate. Syncing the previus development settings to the current photo takes several seconds? These are basic things. I've read all the threads, and tried all the fixes, and I am convinced that whatever current lag and slowness I'm experiencing is due to a software incompatibility with a piece of my hardware OR perhaps I'm running as smoothly as lightroom 4 is ever going to run.
I would like to know if there is anyone else out there who is having legitimally smooth performace out of lightroom 4.0, and if so, what are your system specs.

    Geoff
I've listed stats and issues above but specifics
    Library
    space / Z - wait 2 - 3 seconds - some days.... other times - like a rocket
everything else is perfectly acceptable - for version 4
    Develop mode
    Cropping
    hit R and wait, 2 - 3 seconds
handles appear mouse click to grab / rotate / move - wait 2 - 4 seconds before there is any response - not often with the spinning thing
    Zooming
    space / Z - wait 2 - 3 seconds - some days.... other times - like a rocket
    Lens correction
Manual rotate / vertical - usually acceptable, if you catch it right, you can increase / decrease quickly, otherwise its click - wait 2 - 4 seconds photo is adjusted....
horizontal - this is slow, significantly slower than the above for some reason.
    HSL/Color / B&W
    2 - 5 seconds - usually
    Web
This is acceptable - I just have 1 image selected, so any refreshes affect that image, so there is none of that tedious web update
    Slideshow
I've been using this with LRTimelapse, to export sequences of images to a preset, its just number crunching - go make a coffee or leave running to export 5 or 6 lots of 400+ images over night
    Map
limited by internet speed, its fine the usual irritation of the reverse geo-coding not defaulting to put the data in is mindblowingly frustrating...
I don't use the print or book modules as a rule
    Hope that helps Geoff

No, it will hurt your battery, but it is not recommended by Apple. Additionally, since you have a model with a removable battery, you should calibrate the battery once a month if you leave it plugged in at all times.

  • Getting good performance from Amazon AWS EBS disks

Hi, I am new here, so please let me know if I should be posting somewhere else.
We are using the Amazon cloud and striped EBS disks for Oracle DB 11g. We have done many tests trying to get good performance from the disks but it is still lacking. I am looking for some Oracle best practices for how to best set up the disks in Amazon. Or if any of you have suggestions of good parameters.
    Thanks,
    -tom

Oracle talked much about cloud and they did very little, Oracle cloud computing is amateur for performance testing.
Oracle deployed one EBS AMI (Oracle Enterprise Database) to APAC (Asia Pacific region), later on they withdrew that AMI, any one used that AMI to build an infrastructure they couldn't re launch that AMI.
By now Oracle has no one single EBS AMI in Asia Pacific region!
As you can see from this forum, it's not monitored by Oracle cloud people, many times we tried to contact them for urgent AMI we needed they simply don't reply back.
You could find much documents, presentations and nice animations talking about Oracle cloud but oracle has nothing to do on Amazon cloud so far, so try to find alternatives.
    Thanks,
    Fadi.

  • What to do for getting a good battery backup for E...

I had brought the E6 after a convincing conversation at the Nokia Priority Partner shop and the executive there told me that E6 is a smartphone and also gives a good battery backup. Only on this condition I bought this new phone but to my misfortune this does not have a good battery backup. Everyday morning I need to charge my battery or the phone is dead. This is very much annoying as well as disappointing. I even suffered software issues with my E6. Thrice I needed to get its software reinstalled and even now having issues with the same. The priority centre only tells each time that you get the software reinstalled and your E6 will work fine. But I'm surprised that E6 only borrows my time to get it checked on the go.
No doubt this phone is one of the best which Nokia has ever brought, but, still if it could help me sort this issue then I would rank E6 to be the best in its class.

Which country did you buy your phone in?
There are many posts dealing with this issue and steps to be taken to increase battery life.
    Some important ones are:
    1. Switch off 3G if you do not need it.
    2. Reduce the mail retrieval frequency if you have configured email accounts.
    3. Switch off automatic WiFi scanning.
    4. Reduce number of homescreens.
    5. Close any background application that you do not need.
    6. Switch to power saving mode when you do not actively use the phone for longer periods.

  • Has anyone noticed deminished battery life or not being able to get a full charge since installing Lion?

I have a Brand New Mac Book Pro 15 inch... I have noticed since the upgrade to lion I can't get the battery to charge to 100% and it seems to drain quicker than before.  I have the backlit key board all the way off and the screen dimmed during use on the battery, and no blue tooth activated.  Is anyone else seeing this same thing>

You are covered under the 1-year warranty.
You have a 14 day grace period to exchange it for one that works.

  • Has anyone noticed a decrease in battery performance?

Has anyone noticed a decrease in battery performance?  Is this covered under the Apple Care Warranty?

    Hi Dominick,
The charge capacity is definitely inline with manufacturer's specifications. I will say that the charge cycle is a little high, though.
    129 cycles / 8 months = 16 cycles (per month)
That's about one every other day. It sounds like you use the machine frequently for short periods of time. Is this machine at home or in an office? Or are you mobile with it to where you don't have access to A/C power or can't be "tied down" to a specific location for any period of time?
There's no reason to run the machine off of battery power if it's sitting on your desk. Matter of fact, I probably use my "portable" at my desk more than I use it was a portable. You could be racking up unnecessary cycles otherwise. On one of my machines it's plugged into power 98% of the time, I'll run it down and give it a full recharge once a month per Apple's recommendations.
As AussieDJ recommended, check Activity Monitor to see if anything is consuming unnecessary amounts of CPU usage.
If this is an 11" MBA, approximately 4 hours of run time is well within reason (based on usage), but that's a little low if this is a 13" MBA. Again usage is important here, web browsers and flash-heavy content consume a surprisingly large amount of battery.
I'd also be curious to see a consecutive usage test versus these 10-30 minute usage intervals throughout the day. Give the machine a full charge, use it as your normal would for a 2-3 hours and see how that goes.

  • Battery performance reduced abruptly

I just bought my MBP 15" with a 2.8 GHz intel core i7 processor, 8 gb in ram, and 500 gb hard drive in december 2010 (6 months ago) and it worked perfectly until after a couple of months later. I decided to restore it and install windows 7 with bootcamp, but after restoring OSX, battery life performance was all of a sudden reduced abruptly. It only had gone about 80 cycles and now battery was not lasting more than 4-5 hours at 5 %. The battery icon on finder went totally crazy, going from 10 hours to 1 in just a second no matter the charge percentage; every time i checked it, it showed a different time. I calibrated it at least 3 times before deciding to go to a service center.
I took it to an authorized apple service establishment to claim my applecare plan. Neither the battery nor the MBP showed any problems and apple would only blame it on usage, but the service guy did detect something wrong, so he kept trying and after  A LOT of scans and tests, battery finally showed a problem, which allowed him to order a replacement battery.
When i got my device back, I started noticing the problem was not really fixed, so i kept monitoring the battery performance only to find it was still going wrong. This time I did not bootcamp windows. I finally convinced myself that i was being too tough with my MBP after a few calibrations until battery started to go even crazier than the first time, plus this time, also the hard drive was showing problems since it would take literally about 10 minutes to start and it would never turn off unless I forced it to do so. I took it again to the service station where they ran test and got me a new battery replacement and a new hard drive.
This is my third battery in less than 6 months, and now I am starting to detect those same symptoms in the battery performance that in the past. This time i decided to take it to technical service before it totally crashed like past times, but since it was a different guy who checked it, he did not detect anything and did nothing to it. I am pretty sure my MBP is totally sick since this time, with only 20 cycles, battery is lasting from 1 to 4.5 hours with minimum usage, but no one seems to know whats wrong with it. I tried asking for a whole MBP new replacement with my applecare extended warranty, but they just keep blaming it to the usage i give to my device (which by the ways has been kept to minimum since the last time I got it back)
Please any help from anyone? I am kind of desperate and disappointed at this point.

I'd be concerned that it might be some other controller component or a bad logic board if other parts are repeated failing, maybe something else is causing them to fail.
I'm probably flirting with the terms of use here, but I'd recommend trying out small dog electronics in vermont for your repair (google them, don't want to post a link to risk losing the post before you get to see it). I get no compensation from them, I'm just a fan of their work. they're very thorough and if you explain the whole problem and what you've done before, they'll go above and beyond to test and retest after they do work to confirm they've fixed things. they have a mail-in service option too so it doesn't matter where you live. if you haven't resolved this yet, I'd check them out. as an independent apple reseller and repair center, they seem to be more of a consumer advocate than just a fixit genius bar looking to resolve an immediate problem and move on to the next. that said, I've had great experiences with my local genius bars. I'm just saying that maybe someone like small dog would have a better chance to test, fix, and re-test over some time or a few days to confirm a fix before giving it back. I'm thinking it's more than a battery if other components aren't behaving as well. I'm not a tech so I can't suggest what to try, only where I'd try next and expect good results.

  • What I did to get fantastic battery life on my iPhone 4

I followed loads of advise and tips in this forum and many others but the things that worked best for me was jsut to hard reset my iPhone 4 once after installing ios4.1 and then go into notifications and enable all notifications, especially selecting all three options under the game center and then i waited for a couple of minutes and turned off notifications entirely. I am at about 2 hours of usage, 2 days and 1 hour of standy and with about 45 minutes of talktime, my remaining battery is at 75%. I have 3g,push and all notifications turned off and only turn on 3g when i need to. I used the camera a little including taking a video and surfed around the app store and facebook a little. still at 75% after 2 days of standby? i can hardly complain.

Whether the battery performs to quoted specs is another thing but have any of you guys ever used smartphones by other manufacturers?? Fact remains that you can get a day of heavy use out of the iPhone 4 (if not, yours is faulty) and that's pretty good going! All these people who expect to use their phone for hours, have push on, 3G on, wifi on and then have 99% battery remaining just haven't owned phones by other manufacturers before - I'm sure of it. Your powerful phone has a small battery inside it, this will deplete when you use it. Go figure.
If you're a heavy user and charging your phone once every 24 hours is a problem, that problem is yours and not Apple's. I'm the pickiest person on the planet, you should have seen me over on the HTC forums complaining about just about everything 9 months ago! I'm on my first iPhone, my first iPhone 4, this is the first phone I've not had to send for a replacement and I'm very happy with it. Does it perform to spec? No. Does it have issues? Yes. Is it basically fantastic? Yes. I've never seen so many moaners as I do on these forums! I thought I was bad!!

  • Too Late To Get New Battery?

(sorry, I originally posted this in the Late 2008 category when my MBP is about 2 years old)
I'm just coming around to wondering why my battery life ***. I unplug my MacBook Pro to take upstairs to print something, and 5 mins later it doesn't hold a charge to save its life. I'm new to the whole "cycle" and discharging situation and read that the battery exchange program ended in July. Just wondering if anyone knows if there's a good chance I can still get the battery changed up?
Info as of Oct 28th, 2008:
    Battery Information:
    Battery Installed: Yes
    First low level warning: No
    Full Charge Capacity (mAh): 2037
    Remaining Capacity (mAh): 1677
    Amperage (mA): -1695
    Voltage (mV): 11649
    Cycle Count: 26
From what I've been reading, the battery is basically shot and I'd need a new one. I'm just wondering if because my cycle count is ridiculously low, if they'd replace the battery free of charge.. I'm going to go and ask at the store near me tomorrow but just curious if anyone else had a problem like this.

(I asked the Hosts to delete your other thread, since it was a duplicate of this one.)
The recall/exchange program ended - that one only applied to a small number of 15" MBPs with specific serial numbers. There were actually two replacement programs, one is still active:
    http://www.apple.com/support/macbook_macbookpro/batteryupdate/
Visit an Apple Store or call AppleCare.
One point they may raise is that you likely have not been using your battery enough! Li-based batteries need to be used frequently or oxidation builds up and the battery loses capacity. Apple recommends a minimum of one charge cycle per month, and with 26 cycles over ~2 years, you're barely above that minimum. Personally, I recommend 1-2 cycles +per week+.

  • Poor Battery Performance on MacBook With Snow Leopard

Upon installing Snow on my MacBook Unibody, my battery performance has degraded from approximately 5 hours on a full charge to now less than 2.5 hours. Has anyone else experienced such? I am set up for maximum power saving in battery mode and mainly surf the web and use Pages on occasion while on battery mode. Upon allowing the battery to drain, it indeed lasted only 2.5 hours with just web surfing. I tried a few startups and repaired disk permissions, yet the menu continued to show 2.5 hours on a full charge. Advice anyone?

Snow Leopard has been a power hog so far. I have the same settings and applications, etc. as with running just Leopard. I went from 5-7 hours on my black MacBook (that's with running videos, etc.) to now just barely 2 hours.
I just bought a brand new MacBook Pro a couple of days ago and it only lasts a few hours. Nowhere near the boost they advertise.
Either my old Black MacBook just had an awesome battery or the new software upgrade ***** juice. I am getting ready to wipe the upgrade. I was satisfied with Leopard and Tiger. I rather have all day performance than having to drag the cord out everywhere like you do with a PC. I expect a PC to suck juice and give me only 45min. battery, but not my MacBook.

  • IPhone 5 Gaming Battery Performance

    Hello all,
Just wondering how everyone is going with their iphone 5 and gaming battery performance.
I did a test last night with Fifa 13, which is pretty graphics intensive, to see how long the battery would last.
The phone went from 28% to 1% in 58 minutes of solid non stop gaming giving it about 3.5 hours of gaming time. Does this sound good to everyone? What kind of life are you getting?
Overall I've found the battery life good on wifi and crap on 3G which seems to be everyone's consensus.

No one has anything to add?
