Greetings all,
Has anyone got a 3ghz Mac Pro yet? and if so, how's Logic Pro, Reason and Audio Interfaces behaving with you?
Getting ready to order one of them bad boys, just want to know if there's anything I should be aware of before I take the plunge. Thanks in advance.

  • Does anyone use MIDI loops in Logic Pro to compose music?

Seriously, if anyone out there uses the MIDI loops to compose music in Logic, how the heck do you do it? Especially if you are also using audio loops, it seems almost impossible to me. The chord transpositions that you get from the chord track are not even to the right pitch, and the transposition behavior is different according to whether you drag the loops into the arrange area before or after putting the changes in the Chord track. The signature track is no better, as it doesn't seem to affect audio loops. So how do you get the bass loops etc. to play in the keys you want them to without going through extraordinary contortions? I looked at one of the Logic Pro books, and it said to transpose by using the transpose function in the inspector, but that only lets you transpose by octaves! Do you really go in and edit the loops by hand to transpose each note?
Any pointers on this would be greatly appreciated.

Put the mouse pointer on top of the transpose number, which is zero, hold down the left mouse button and drag up or down to transpose by steps. At the beginning of either the getting started or Logic manual there's an explanation of the different types of mouse/key behavior, if you're not used to using Logic it's a good idea to go over these.
Also, Logic does not always use simplified Mac conventions (thank the stars for that), as a result you have a lot more variety of data input, it varies according to the task at hand.

  • G5 2.0 GHz or 2.3GHz for Logic Pro?

I'm planning on upgrading pretty soon - I'm wondering what the better option is for me - and I don't think "faster is better" is the clear cut answer when the difference in cost might be spent on more RAM or another internal drive for the 2.0GHz machine.
Using it with Logic Pro pretty exclusively is that 0.3 x 2 extra bit of processing power really going to help compared to an extra Gig or two of RAM? (I'd have a minimum of 2GB in either machine - though not from Apple!)
There are other reasons apart from speed to consider the 2.3 - the drive is 250GB and the Graphics card is not the LE version, but I can't see any other differences? Given some deeper knowledge than I possess of the way Logic uses CPU and RAM how does this equation balance?
I do use other apps such as Photoshop, but frankly I don't really care if a filter is applied a few seconds faster or slower - what matters is Logic, Instruments and running sample players like Kontakt and BFD. Since these load into RAM I'm guessing that more money on RAM would be the better decision?
Obviously - I think - the issue with working with audio is reliability, consistency and quietness. Can anyone compare the two on this basis? I'm looking to buy a machine that will see me through the next two to three years until the whole Intel thing is over and done - and I'd appreciate any advice.
Lastly the Quad is over my budget - but then I haven't seriously considered it since learning that Logic doesn't properly make use of the second dual core . . . then, recently I read that in fact it does and it was something of an urban myth that it didn't - confused! Can anyone authoritatively comment?
    TIA

Another thing to consider is that, in the future, you can buy more RAM, more disks - but you can't buy faster CPUs.
That said, if my budget made $500 hard to justify, I'd be fine with the dual-core 2.0.
What I'm really wondering (two weeks after spending $4000+ on a Quad and Dell 24" monitor) is: Is the 20" Intel iMac the real sweet spot for Logic users? We'll know pretty soon, as 7.2 is starting to get installed.

  • Has anyone used Fluqe OnStage with Logic Pro X Live?

My colleague is looking for a way to automate his set list live using Logic.
    We were looking at OnStage.
If anyone can let me know how it works, and if it's working well, I'd appreciate it.
    Charles

I downloaded it today. Doesn't seem to work. It gives you to the option of playing from "Logic Pro" or "Logic Express". When I click "SET" to set the project to fire, all of my logic files are grayed (assuming that means they are not an option)... Waste of 20 bucks.

  • Anyone using Groove Agent 3 / Logic Pro 8 ?

So far it seems that all I will be able to do is create external midi-files then import them back in which is tedious as **** when trying to create a dynamic drum track full of changes. Cutting and pasting these tracks seems to be difficult once they are imported. What I wanted were prerecorded drum tracks with realistic fills and changes I could cut and paste via midi data - so far its not working the way I hoped.
Curious to see if anyone has any tips? Is there any hope or am I going to be banging my head against the wall creating drum tracks using GA3 w/ LP8?

When used as a VST with Cubase, GA3 can write the MIDI data directly onto an instrument track as the machine is played, skipping the "create external MIDI file/import.
What you need to look at are the automation capabilities.
Every parameter of the GA series can be automated. If you map the song out and "play" GA3's buttons, Logic records your "performance".
Fills, 1/2 Time, Pattern Change...etc are all recordable via automation.
Affer you get the song mapped out and the automation/performance finished the track can then be bounced as audio or exported as MIDI for editing.

  • HELP!!! Logic Pro 8 won't load

I installed some plug-ins and had an issue with validating one of them. I proceeded anyway and the start up screen stalls. I removed the plug in from the components menu and the problem persists. I consulted the manual and was told to hold down shift-control at the start up screen and the AU manager would be accessed. It didn't. No idea what to do next, and I really am not keen on the idea of doing a reinstallation of Logic. Anyone got any ideas?

Logic Pro 8 itself doesn't work correctly with Mavericks... All sorts of weird behaviour can occur.... as it is no longer supported under that OS X version.
You can try to open the LP8 projects in LPX itself but note, any 32bit plugins and other LP8/9 only features used in your LP8 projects.. will no longer work in LPX
    Solutions?
Roll back using your backups, to Mountain Lion.. where LPX and LP8 will continue to run side by side.... (You did make backups before you upgraded to Mavericks, yes?)
    or....
Create a external boot disk for running Mountain Lion and install LP8 on that.. so you can boot to your internal Mavericks system disk to run LPX and boot to your external ML system disk when you wish to use LP8

  • Can anyone download the Logic Pro x manual?

Is anyone able to download the Logic Pro X manual from apple's site? I keep trying on my ipad but it crashes it every time, same with iPhone? Surely it can't be just on the mac, I want a stand alone manual I can refer to separately when recording, or even to read up on when I'm away from my studio. The other 2 smaller ones downloaded no problem. Any help is appreciated, thank you

    Hi
Yep.... just crashed Safari on my iPad Air (iOS 7.0.4).
    A second attempt worked OK
You could always add it from your Mac via iBooks or a PDF reader app and iTunes?

  • How do I get Logic Pro to work?

I finally believed all the hype about Mac being better and gave in. I got a MacBook primarily to use GarageBand and Logic Pro, which are the programs I also use in class. I go to set up Logic Pro. Everything goes smoothly until I try to open the program and I receive this message:
"You can't use this version of the application Logic Pro with this version of Mac OS X. You have 9.0.0."
Please tell me there's an easy way to fix, upgrade, etc. this - without having to purchase anything additional. This was not a cheap enough computer to just accept the fact that the features I wanted most may or may not work or be the right programs after installation.
    Thanks.

GarageBand is a stripped down, basic, user friendly DAW based on Logic. If you are buying Logic Pro, use Logic Pro. It's a professional application, with a leaning curve.  Why buy logic pro if you plan on using GarageBand anyway? Take the time to read the manual, read/watch tutorials, and read others questions on forums.
GarageBand is meant to be able to open, and use easily and immediately by anyone with a mac. Logic pro is the opposite.
My advice: ask yourself what you need in logic pro that GarageBand can't do for you? If all you want or need is more AU plug ins, you might consider buying instrument plugins and continuing to work in GarageBand.
However, if you find the power and features of GarageBand limiting (which some would pretty much off the bat), then it's def work it to put in the time and energy into learning logic.
My shorter answer would be: all the garage jam packs you get w logic pro you could use with GarageBand.
As far as logic's drum sampler and synths etc...... See my longer answer. If you're spending the money on logic, and want to use logic's synths etc you prob want to spend the time learning it, as GarageBand doesn't play in the same league as logic.

  • Logic Pro, Logic Pro

Hi. Here's my problem I've got the Mac program Logic pro, that works great. I have a upright accustic piano (Cable Nelson) that sounds beautiful. However it was built long before they had MIDI and all this fancy technology. I would like to set it up so that I could play the upright piano and record it with Logic Pro, I could probably use the built in Microphone on the computer. But I was wondering if anyone knew of a better way to capture the beautiful sound of the upright unplugged piano in the Logic Pro system. Thanks for your help.

What you need is a 24 bits audio interface with at least 2 microphone preamps and 48 volt phantom power, plus at least two large diaphragm condensor microphones. This will cost you anything from $ 200 to $ 6,000, but realistically you'd pay $ 500-800 for sufficient to good quality.
There are lots of "how-to's" on the web, this is just one of 'm:

    https://www.google.com/search?q=miking+an+upright+piano&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&r ls=org.mozilla:nl:official&client=firefox-a
PS: I do think it is x-tremely cool that you want to record your piano like this. Nice!

  • Apple remote 8.0.2 Logic Pro 8 doesn´t work

    I got 8.0.2 Logic Pro 8 on a Mac Mini with 10.6.8
The remote doesn´t work.wasn´t this issue fixed?
Its not the pairing, its not the battery, i got three apple remotes (I guess it was wasted money) and they do work on other programs but not Logic as they should. This is a clean installation without any unnecesseary stuff. Its a studio only.
Does anyone have any idea or solution?
    Thanks!

I found my solution to historical data.  The "Share Data" area shows your data source with a statement that "When multiple sources (e.g. iPhone, manual, pedometer) are available, one data source will be chosen based on the priority order listed above".  So, when iPhone was listed above manual data entry, my attempts to enter data manually were stymied.  I don't know how to rearrange the order.  For walking, I would think the iPhone could track steps and then if one walked four laps without the iPhone, he should be able to manually enter that mile as well. Don't know, though, how you avoid double coverage if you jog with the iPhone AND enter manually.

  • Will the Tascam FW-1884 work with Logic Pro X?

    Hello,
I notice that the new Logic is 64 bit only and yet the Tascam FW-1884 is specifically listed as a supported control surface.
Tascam has not released 64 bit drivers for this device!  Can anyone shed any light on this?  Will it work only as a control surface and not an audio interface?  Is the documentation in error?  Anyone have this working with Logic Pro X?
    Thanks,
    Lyford Rome

    Lyford,
Again, in regards to hardware... it is not about LPX compatibility.. It is about compatibility with the OS X version and it's CoreAudio... Once you 'get' that point then everything else makes sense...
Tascam are notorious about leaving owners of "End of Line" products 'high and dry' when OS X is updated... and as you have found... the 1884 is not compatible with Mountain Lion 10.8.4 and likely will never be so... because Tascam will not be releasing Mountain Lion drivers for it.. so, it is not something you can use with LPX, which requires Mountain Lion 10.8.4 as a minimum requirement.
As an aside, Apple have acknowledged they make an error in simply using the LP9 Hardware compatibility chart for LPX (as LP9 could be used with earlier OS X versions for which there were drivers for the 1884 for example) and have said they will be issuing an updated version "in the near future"......

  • Purchased full retail Logic Pro 8; can't get rid of academic serial number

I had originally purchased the *Academic version*, entered the serial number, but *aborted the install* without going beyond entering the serial number when I found out from this forum that I would never be able to upgrade the software unless I paid the extra $50 now for the Full Retail version.
I *bought the full retail version* $499 (returning the not-installed academic program $449,) proceeded with the >4 hour install, only to find that *I cannot update the serial number* to the full retail serial number. I tried uninstalling using appzapper, it only deleted 384MB of the 40 GB install, and then it took the same >4 hours to re-install - still with no chance to enter the full retail serial number.
Does anyone know how to update Logic Pro 8's serial number or to do a *re-install that will force me to re-enter the serial number*?
    --R

The program is exactly the same, it's only the serial number that you need to dump. So no need to uninstall or reinstall Logic, just leave it as it is. App Zapper won't find the file that contains the serial number, I've checked. Hence your problem.
Very easy fix. Go to Users/YOUR USER/Library/Preferences/Logic. Inside that folder will be 'com.apple.logic.pro' and 'com.apple.logic.pro.cs'. I can't remember which is the serial, but just dump both, start Logic, and it will ask for your serial again. Put it in, and it will create a new one of those with your correct serial. And you're done.
NOTE - Inside the Preferences folder mentioned above, there may be some preference files with the same names, but those aren't the ones you're looking for. You need to look *inside the LOGIC FOLDER that is contained within the Preferences folder mentioned above*. Others have made this mistake.
    Good Luck!

  • How to record guitar in Logic Pro 8

    Hi,
Well, I´ve got a Mac Mini, Logic Pro 8, Audio Kontrol 1 audio interface, and an acoustic guitar. What I would like to do is to record my guitar songs into Logic Pro 8 and add other sound effects. My problem is, however, that I can´t figure out how to record guitar using Logic Pro 8. In the "Preferences" I choose "Core Audio" as device. I connect my guitar into the audio interface (Audio Kontrol 1) and from the audio interface to my Mac Mini using an USB.
When I start playing, Logic Pro is silent. When I record, there is no sound. What is even more strange is that GarageBand is working perfect! So I guess it has something to do with the settings in Logic Pro 8. So, I ask you guys...do you know have to solve this problem? If so, I would be very grateful!
    Best regards,
    Tor

    Thanks guys!
I will try this as soon as I come home!
I will let you know how it works.
    Tor
Well, I mentioned the aggregate audio device since I saw this article. Is this possible for me? Why should I do this?

I bought the new Yamaha 01v96i Mixer but I can't make it works with Logic pro, in the list of available DAW I only find the 01v96 which is not the same and in-fact it does not work with the 01v96i.
Does anyone have an idea on how to set Logic for it or at least does anyone know if the new Logic Pro X has the new 01v96i in the list?
