  • Got my MBP back from Apple-Problems

I sent my MBP in for repair on Monday and got it back today.
I now have a couple of annoying problems. The first thing is every time i boot up my computer, it says "Your computers clock is set before March 24, 2001." Some applications may have issues etc. The first time i thought nothing of it but every time i restart my computer it says it. I went into date and time and had ti sync with time.apple.com and it did so successfully. The data and time are correct and i just restarted and the same thing happened so it seems my computer isn't keeping time while off. The second this is every time I turn on my computer or wake it from sleep, i have to put in my Wi-Fi password again. I check the box that tells it to store it in my keychain and I check in keychain access and it shows it stored. How do i solve these problems?
Lastly, i got my computer back and they didn't do a re-install of the OS so everything is still on my computer but when I plug in my external drive, it comes up as the green time machine drive but whenever i try to backup, it fails. Why is this? I would like to be able to access my old backups and just continue. I know there is plenty of space, my time machine drive still has 118gb free. I don't know what apple did to my computer but they fixed some problems and created a few more to take their place!
    Thanks in advance!

  • I got my MBP back from AppleCare, LCD whine fixed!

Hello, I just got my computer back from AppleCare to get the screen whine repaired. It quiet as ever and I'm very happy. I've had no issues with CPU whine, ever.

Congrads! It's always nice to hear something positive from Apple. They don't have time to do it right the first time but they have plenty of time to it over again. Either way, its stories such as yours that keeps me from canceling my MBP order which scheduled for 30 March shipment. If it takes longer I will be happy to wait. Reason: I'm praying for a serial number: W8610xxx or grater, meaning manufacturing date of: "86" = 2006 / "10>" meaning week ten or greater in the production cycle. I would be even happier if shows week "11" or "12" in the suffix since Apple has identified units with serial numbers of: W869xx… or below that are more susceptible of having a defective “inverter” w/noise that emits from the upper right corner of the keyboard. This valuable information comes from another Discussion Member who got lucky with an honest and knowledgeable tech support dude at Apple.

  • Just got my MBP back with a new logic board but...

    Hello all
I just got my laptop back yesterday. They did the logic replacement due to a bad graphics card (nvidia) I was not under warranty. I was having the Videocontroller error on the AHT. I just ran the AHT today via the apple disc. It came up with 4SNS/1/40000000:TGOD-86.500. I also noticed my superdrive does not accept blank disc media, it spits them out after a few seconds in. It still install and read programs off it. Burning discs is just the issue. I posted that issue here http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=12410595#12410595 But prior to the new logic board, it recognized the discs as "blank"
Please any help would be appreciated.
    Marc

I had an issue whereby only certain DVDs were usable.....some were, and some weren't.
My MBP went in for repair and the SuperDrive was replaced under my AppleCare extended warranty.
You'll likely need your SuperDrive replaced.
If I didn't have Applecare, I'd be up Shyte Creek by now with some very costly repairs on my September '08 MBP.
BTW, My MBP had two logic board failures in its second year of ownership which were replaced under my AppleCare warranty.

  • Anyone got their uptodate redemption code yet?  Did anyone get a code at an Apple store?

Has anyone received their uptodate code yet?  Or can you get uptodate authorization at an Apple Store?

Ensure that you have an Internet Connection.
At the chime hold down Command-R and follow the recovery, to repair the Yosemite installation. Your data should still be intact.

  • Anyone got their Audigy 2ZS working on Vista Beta

I tried just about everything,, including the NGO Modded drivers, the Vista Beta drivers provided by Creative, the original Win XP driver, NOTHING WORKED? any suggestions, i heard some people got theirs working..

you CAN get it to work, BUT ONLY on a 32 bit version..., just install ngo modded driver then or the original xp drivers (via device manager --> update drivers --> browse my pc --> cd rom dri've (with cd-rom from soundcard in it) then it should work but you get THE most desasterous sound ever (see new topic made by me)
i repeat, you can't let them work on a 64 bit edition!!

  • Has anyone had their MBP die after installing a new hard drive?

    hi,
the reason why I ask is because:
a while ago I had a lovely PB12" which was my favourite little laptop.. the only thing it was missing was hard drive space, so I had a certified apple centre install a 250GB drive in it to make it a much more usable personal machine. a few days later the motherboard fried itself, and because the machine was long out of warranty, there was pretty much nothing to be done about it. I'm pretty sure it was a dodgy job on replacing the drive that killed my machine but I obviously can't prove it.
anyway that was then, this is now.. I'm thinking about replacing the 100GB 7200rpm drive that came with my MBP core2duo 2.33 17" machine, seeing as there are now 7200rpm drives as big as 320GB. but I really rely on this machine for a lot of work, and I'm not exactly ready to have it mysteriously die just like my old powerbook. I know the 12" powerbook was apparently notoriously difficult to open up and replace components so I get the feeling that the technicians must have bashed something up when they were trying to do the swap out. so my question is, has anyone at all with any recent MBP had the machine go seriously wrong after changing the drive? looking around on the internet it seems that changing the drive in my current machine is something easy enough that I could do it myself, which I'd probably do if I don't hear too many horror stories about it. my MBP is out of warranty and I don't have apple care, but is it correct that even if it still was under warranty, that would have been voided by my changing the hard drive?
anyway, any experiences and opinions on this most appreciated, especially from anyone who has had major problems..
    cheers,
    antonio

thanks for the replies, appreciate the feedback.
as I mentioned in my original post, I think I'm probably overly paranoid because of the fact that an authorised repair centre managed to kill my PB just doing a simple drive switchover. but from everything I've heard, the powerbook 12" was already in a category of its own in terms of how difficult it was to access parts inside, with a high risk of breaking something in the process. so I'll probably end up swapping out the drive on the MBP myself, perhaps with the help of someone more technically nerdy than me (and who has the right tools).
I originally got a 7200rpm drive, and will most probably go for the latest 320GB 7200s that are out there because I need the best performance running logic. but I'm also slightly tempted to go for a 500GB 5400 because I've heard there's not much in it performance-wise nowadays given that the 5400s use perpendicular technology rather than longitudinal. do any of you know if the current 320GB 7200s also use perpendicular recording?
    thanks!

  • Got my MBP back 1 day ago

Well i got mine back after i got it replaced, because of whine and a messed up key.
this one has whine and monitor buzz
    Serial: w861345....
This really *****, i keep getting a headache from the monitor buzz.

Well, I had my MBP sent out for repair they changed the logic board and the thermal unit also the keyboard. And it also came back with some scratches and also on the left side at the seam where your arm/wrist rest is loose so it squeeks..plus is was dirty.
Called Apple Care got someone who said they couldn't replace it because it was past 14 days, so I didn't like that answer and then they gave me to a product specialist. He said the they needed a resonable number of attempts to fix it. I ask him what a resonable number was? He couldn't answer. So each time you send it back your without your computer for 10 days. I said just send me a new one. He said he couldn't but if after some undetermined number of returns then he could. So I said just give me a refund. And that he could do. So I'm returning my MBP and going to wait for the second generation of MBPs that don't run so dam hot. Unfortunatley you have to get a little extra firm to have them do anything.
Oh yeah, he also said if he sent out a new one that it could have the heat problem to. And that the Engineers are working on it but DO NOT have A SOLUTION YET.
It's a bumer cause I like the computer. They should make it big enought not to have a heat issue and also to fit a dual layer burner for $3K. I don't need the thinnest computer just one that works comfortably on the desk in the lap etc. without excess heat issue, airport issues, and high pitched noises.
Apple dropped the ball on getting this to market before the bugs were worked out.
So I will wait, check these disucussion boards from time to time until things are running smoother. Good luck to you and don't cave into these folks trying to tell you the heat is ok or the noise, etc....you paid top $$$ expect the best and don't take any bull**.
    Peace,
    Time for a Margarita.

  • Has anyone got their Vaja case for their iPhone 4 yet?

I just got mine and am disappointed. I've bought probably a half-dozen of their cases for earlier iPhones and iPods and have liked them.
This one doesn't fit well though. The part that folds over the screen doesn't fit tightly enough so that it is very easy to slide it off enough to one side or the other to the extent that it doesn't protect the screen.
Too bad, waited almost 2 months and now this . . .

I bought mine at the Vaja store in Paris while there on business. I got the sleeve-model. It is just gorgeous, if way too expensive. BUT within three days, it was too large and too loose and the iPhone 4 just slides right out while it is in your pocket. It's probably better for women who might place it in their purse in a pocket where it isn't going to slide around - but it is unsafe and unusable in a pants pocket. Sadly, I can't return it to Paris...I use it, but only when I can carry my iPhone in my inside suit breast pocket - otherwise, I use an older case for my pocket. Oh well.

  • Has anyone got a MBP without speaker distortion?

I sent in my MBP for repair because of the speaker distortion, but looking around the board it seems like its a problem that apple cannot fix? Should I bother sending it to applecare again?? The difference is pretty big and I am suprised that apple would be okay with it. It renders my speakers practically useless as it just sounds horrible. Thanks.

Yep. One of the reasons I switched to the Pro from the MacBook was the low volume of the MacBook. Now I have more volume but distortion. Still it's better to hear that than nothing at all (though this doesn't go the same for crappy music
If you turn the bass down in the EQ, it should help a little.

  • Anyone notice their MBP really hot when taking it out of a bag?

    Hey everyone,
I have had my Macbook Pro for about 8 months now and just today I took it out of my laptop bag and found it to be very HOT. It's like it came out of it's own sleep and ran inside my bag. Since there was no airflow it got very hot. How do I know if this caused damage to my laptop? I am very concerned about it. Any information would be helpful.
    Thanks,
    -David

    Hi David,
Waking from sleep unintentionally is something that can happen, but shouldn't happen. Often, Bluetooth settings can be set (possibly as default) to allow the machine to be woken from sleep by a Bluetooth device. If you go to your System Preferences, and click the Keyboard and Mouse pane, and then click "Bluetooth" then you can uncheck the box that says "Allow Bluetooth devices to wake this computer". This should stop this from occurring in the future.
If you do use Bluetooth devices, then you will have to either wake the computer manually (by opening it) or be more careful with the computer when it is sleeping in a case. Even passing Bluetooth devices in other people's bags can possibly wake up the computer when that checkbox is checked.
I wouldn't worry about the heat that the computer was exposed to this one time. The machine itself is designed to shut itself off at temperatures that are dangerous to it. Therefore, you should never have any heat-related damage.
In terms of sleeping the machine when carrying it in a bag: Continue doing it, but with this checkbox unselected. There is nothing wrong with carrying the machine while it is asleep! I do it all the time and have never had any problems!

  • Just got my MBP back from repair and VERY confused...

    Good Afternoon,
Well, I just picked up my beloved MBP 2.2GHZ SR / 128MB Video Ram 8600GT from repair after a LCD / Logic board / Top case replacement under warranty.
When I powered it up to test things, I went to System Information and my Mac stated it was a 2.6GHz SR / 256MB Video Ram 8600GT / 800Mhz FSB.
Am I just really confused or did I get a serious upgrade wih this repair?
    Thanks in advance!
    DebtManWalking

maybe it was cheaper for apple to replace with an equivalent/better model than fix the old one, the warranty terms allow for this

  • Is it worth sending a buzzing MBP back now?

Apparently, anyone who calls apple's tech support gets offered to send their MBP back to apple, as they call it a "defective unit."
Since it seems that all of these models are having the buzzing problem, is it worth sending my MBP back to apple, considering a temprary fix is keeping photobooth open?
Has anyone received a MBP that doesn't buzz?

I've seen one that doesn't buzz... Played with it, turned the volume down, up, screen brightness down, up... proc under load, no load... etc... Worked like a charm.
