    I used to think it was cool that Apple was so tight lipped about their upcoming products. But that was back when they were a bit more boutique-y. Now that they're rock stars of the computing world, it's not so cool. It's becoming a real pain. (and yes line-toers, this is a technical issue!
    Calling the stores yields hold times that are longer by the day, as employees don't know what's in stock, when it's coming, what product is compatible with what, etc. The in-store lines are longer too, partially due to more returns for reasons like yours. And being as eager as ever to help, sales people and Geniuses are spreading more disinformation, in an effort not to come across clueless. But because of the information blackout they're in, more and more often these days, they are clueless. It's frustrating for them, for us, for everyone. And it's costing Apple money, which they in turn are charging back to the consumer to cover the cost of 50 greenshirts running around asking each ther the same questions over and over.
    If Apple hired an efficiency consulting firm, the firm would have a field day. And dollars to donuts, their findings would be that the root of many issues in the stores is lack of communication from upper management, and thus, lack of preparedness.

    Now then, I just picked up a 160GB Classic (and only got it after getting my friend who works at the Genius Bar to go in the basement of the store and check if they were in stock because every single employee on the floor said they weren't) Do I like it? Well, the 80GB I played with at the store seemed pretty sluggish, and it only had 2GB of media. I'll know if I like mine in about another hour when my 80GBs are done syncing. I suspect it will be even more sluggish, at least at first. Some are suggesting there's a pickup in speed as data is cached.

    Just want to know if there is a big difference and how bulky does it make it?

    The 2750mAh extended battery is too big and makse the phone look like crap.  I picked up two 1700mAh batteries on Ebay with a plugin/usb charger.  Thats only 20% more battery but it fits with the existing cover. 
    The real battery power savings came from installing these 2 apps.
    I am not affliated with the developers of these apps.   I'm just a fan.

         This is an awesome app that shuts down all data downloads when your phone is in sleep mode.  You can still get calls and text's but just about everything else put to sleep.   It's completely configurable.  My battery lasts 2x longer.
    Try it - you have nothing to loose.

    honestly i just noticed that SEARCH thing yesterday...b4 i thot by search ppl meant skim through the threads...so sorry about that. and ive seent he pictures and reviews for the iSkin Duo...but i dont think its for me. bcuz my iPod will be docked most of the time and i dont want to deal with having to take the skin off and putting it back on...otherwise the skin is great.

  • ActiveSync reporting generic "Synchronization error", anyone have any ideas?

    I am using my Treo 700wx on my Windows XP Home desktop computer, and have in the past been able to sync with Outlook 2003.  My wife recently purchased a new windows mobile smartphone and began using ActiveSync under her computer profile, and since then ActiveSync reports a generic "Synchronization error" message in the Activesync window when I place my Treo in the USB cradle.  It does indicate that I am connected just fine.  I redownloaded the most recent ActiveSync files from Microsoft (4.5.0) and used the repair option without success.  I also upgraded my Treo Phone software to v. 1.22 - VZW also without any change in my ability to sync my data.  Does anyone have any suggestions as to the next step?

    I have only seen a generic syncrhronization error when trying to do remote synchronization, so pretty much sounds like your device is trying to sync to a diff computer than that one it is connected to.
    First simple check is to delete the partnership the device has with your computer and see if that helps
    1. With the mobile device disconnected from your computer, start ActiveSync, click Delete Partnership on the File menu, and then click the partnership you want to delete.
    2. Soft reset the mobile device. For information about how to do so, view the documentation that is included with your the mobile device.
    3. IMPORTANT: When you perform this step, if you have data on your mobile device that is not yet on your computer, you should choose Combine when you receive a message that asks what you want to do with existing data on the mobile device.
    Connect your mobile device to your computer, and then modify your initial settings by using the New Partnership Wizard. Note that the New Partnership Wizard automatically starts after you connect your mobile device.

    Thanks for that 'sberman' - because my iPhone is backed-up to my work computer (only at this stage) I have had to call our IT Department in Adleaide. (4 times this morning). The last guy managed to get the phone into 'DFU Mode' - no more recovery mode screen - (kind of 'asleep' perhaps) from my understanding of same. I am awaiting a call again from IT so they can get my computer to actually recognise my iPhone on the C Drive. This also happened to  one of my colleagues in Newman (WA). She got so frustrated with the whole process that she bought another phone the next time she was in 'civilisation.' She hasn't had any problems since. (Cross fingers).

    It should be added either to your iTunes account, or possibly to your credit card if the purchase was made on with it.
    How long ago did you get the email ? It may take 48 hours for it to appear - if it's been longer than that and you can't see it on your iTunes balance (and you've tried logging out and back into the account to see if the balance updates) nor on your credit card then try contacting Support again, and include your case number if you have one.

    Connect your phone to iTunes, then right-click on the name of your phone on the left sidebar and select Reset Warnings.  Then sync again and you should get a warning listing the problem files.

    Yes, that's a bit misleading.  It just means that will be done, if it's required, which it isn't on your backups.
    I have no idea if anything actually was changed however just when I had given up and walked away, TM has started working after a week of failing.
    It probably did find and fix something.  Just for reference, Disk Utiltiy usually shows the progress and repair messages in the center part of the window, but often doesn't when repairing a sparse bundle on a network.  You can see the messages at any time by clicking the Log icon in the toolbar, or select Window > Show Log from the menubar.
    Anyway, glad it's sorted out!
