Anyone here using an Enermax Coolergiant 480watt PSU on their K8N Neo 2 Platnium?

Hello, I just got the K8N yesterday and have have some stability issues when OCing even just a little bit.
Last night the PC crashed and I could not even get some much as a tiny fan spin out of it when turning it on...even the extra fan on the Coolergiant PSU would not so much as move a peep when I turn on the PSU....I reset the Cmos and unplugged everything and rested it for about 10 min...still nothing.
I went to sleep and woke up this morning and it fired up on the second try.
The MSI core center is telling me my 12V rail is around 11.79 and I have seen it dip to about 11.60
I know I probably did not give enough information to tell but do you think there is a chance the Coolergiant 480watt PSU just cannot handle this mobo?
I can return it to Monarch computers but really I am going to lose any money I saved if I do this...I can also try calling Enermax.
Is anyone else using the Coolergiant 480 watt PSU with their K8N Neo2 Platnium motherboard?

Here is my thought. Folding @home is simular to Prime95 in pushing a machine to it's max. I have been running F@H for six months now, 24/7 and have yet to have a single glitch. Now from all reports my MB takes a tad more juice to run than does the NVidia equiped units you guys have. So you can see why I am a proponant of the big single rail jobs for max stability. My sig does not show all my toys either so while I don't have the high end power hungry vid card I do have a few things that make the balance a tad more even.
We learned early on over in the Via area that the dual rails basically suck. I have since revised my estimate of them for some machines due to what folks have reported here. However if you want to max out on toys then you may want to go the way of the single rails while they are still on the market.
This is all about the best stability you can based the rest of the system on. Think about this a bit and maybe you will see my point.
Oh ya and I agree. Core Center lies. I have said this for almost a year now. My estimate of it is based on meter readings as well. I should dig out my scope as well just to show noise factors. However CC has enough issues that I will never use or trust it again. MBM5 is fairly accurate but it is not deadly accurate either. However you do not need deadly accuracy with these utils. So long as they are in a fair ballpark you are just fine.

  • Has anyone here used Premiere CC for historical documentaries and similar archival-heavy projects?

Is anyone here using Premiere CC to edit a PBS-style historical documentary? I'm thinking of an American Experience episode or something similar. Something with thousands of photos and hundreds of low-res archival screener clips that will all have to be replaced with high-res masters for the online, etc.
I ask because I work as an assistant editor for this kind of show, and all the projects I've worked on have been in Media Composer 6.5 or MC 7, or occasionally in FCP 7. But I love using Premiere when I edit my own (non-broadcast) projects. And several producers I know are wary of staying with the discontinued FCP 7, don't like FCP X, and aren't thrilled with Media Composer either. So...I'm wondering if Premiere is a viable option for us.
Please note that I do NOT want to have a general discussion or flamewar here about which NLE is "best," whether Adobe's rental system is good or bad, or whether FCP X is brilliant or a disaster. I really don't want to talk about any of that.
Instead, what I DO want is to learn from those of you who have tried it, how well in practice does Premiere CC work in this kind of project? Specifically:
    1) Does it work smoothly with EditShare so multiple editors can work together?
    2) How reliable and straightforward is the offline/online workflow (so that screener footage can be replaced by master footage, etc.)?
    3) Associate producers and archival researchers often ask me for EDLs of the latest cut (which I clean up in MS Word to make more readable). How reliable is EDL export from a complex Premiere project?
    4) We often work with online houses that rely on Avid Symphony for color correction. Is that a no-go for a Premiere project? Or is there some way to get from Premiere into Symphony? If not, is Resolve the preferred tool?
    5) We typically keep a Filemaker Pro database to keep track of stills and archival footage. Can we import a lot of image metadata from Filemaker into a Premiere bin the way we do with MC 7?
    5) What other issues and problems have you faced in doing this?
    6) On the flip side, what are the real advantages?
Again, I'm interested in hearing others' personal experiences. I can read online a lot about how it's SUPPOSED to work. But in my experience, there are always quirks and issues that are not in the documentation that you can only learn through trial and error, or through asking here on the ever-valuable and helpful COW.
    Thanks in advance!

We do - but generally with a different workflow. I can't answer all your questions but a few thoughts. ps. We mostly do short —not feature length— projects.
    • For online we most often export the sequence (or a series of sequences) at PR444 with an EDL. Haven't found an online house primed for Premiere in a way that would make it easier than that. (again: generally 5-10min long projects.)
    • Premiere CC 2014 is a nightmare. CC was great. But recently upgraded to 2014 and have had nothing but problems related to the app crashing. It only seems to happen on projects that include either mixed media or large files that require caching (for us .MXF files.) Haven't received any helpful advice on how to fix.
    • Haven't used Avid in a while but the metadata works great for us in Premiere. The integration with Adobe Story is excellent: doc interview set-up, transcribe dialog, import into Story, synch with Premiere and: get an interactive metadata script that can be searched and clicked (word by word) to the related point in the footage.
    • Have also found that the integration with AE —turning a clip into an AE composition in the timeline with one click— is one of the more flawless features. Works great for quick clean-up or adjustments to footage.
    Hope this helps.

  • Anyone here using DVDSP to author Games ???

I was approached by a few clients to produce a whole series of interactive DVD games. I own a Sonic creator and SD2000 encoder system...even though scripting in Sonic creator is fairly sophisticated, it is not enough to author highly interactive games. I freelance at a few post facility with the latest Sonic HD-DVD system with Scenarist. It's a very powerful system. I'm tempted to upgrade my Creator but it is a major and VERY expensive move. Is there anyone here using DVDSP to author highly interactive games for DVD or any other authoring app you have used that's up to par for this tak ???? Thanks.

I'm using Creator 2.1.7, it's the last update before Sonic went with scenarist as their flagship. Beleive it or not, it's still running on OS9. It's a decent system, it has serve me well but it's definitely time to upgrade.
I will meet with the company on Monday and i'll know more about the project, but just from reading the script they sent me, it seems very deep...lots of programming.
I'm new to DVDSP..actually, i just got it this weekend. I was thinking of using it to author smaller projects and get another system for the high end and HD project. It's not an easy decision as what to get since the upgrade from Creator to Sonic HD and Scenarist is over 100K !!! ouch !
Anyways, if anyone here has experience using DVDSP for authoring highly interactive games and-or using it for major titles, i love to hear some feedback. Thanks.

  • Does anyone here use PathFinder?

I'm not sure I spelled that right. I think it's just Path Finder. It's a substitute program for Finder. Does anyone here use it and how do you like it?

I use it if I have large amounts of File Management to do. Biggest advantages for me:
    The Shelf
    Tabbed Windows
But there are literally hundreds of bells and whistles on there. You can customise the look a million ways too.
But for most of the time the Finder is fine.
You can download a trial of PathFinder and try it out, you know.

  • Anyone here running a ENERMAX EG851AX-VH? impressions?

As I plan to move to a Socket 939 Mobo/CPU combo probably in December or January and donate my mobo CPU to my wife, I am going to ordr one of these for my machine and give my current PSU to my wife since her case PSU will not move the K8T and her HDs and other stuff etc. Does anyone here have one of these. I have read great reviews but wanted to see if someone here had used it.
    Jorge

    EG701P-VE SFMA and EG701AX-VE SFMA:
    +3.3V @ 36A
    +5V @ 45A
    +12V*1 @ 18A
    +12V*2  @ 17A
    3.3V + 5V Combined = 320W (MAX)
    Total Power = 600W
    EG851AX-VH
    +3.3V @ 38A
    +5V @ 42A
    +12V*1 @ 14A
    +12V*2 @ 18A
    +12V*3 @ 16A
    +12V*4 @ 14A
    3.3V + 5V Combined = 240W MAX
    Max. Combined +12V = 480W(40A)
    Total Power = 660W
The EG851AX-VH is clearly a server PSU for Dual or Quad Opteron due to its multiple +12V leads and total power bias towards +12V.  The increased total power over the EG701P-VE SFMA or EG701AX-VE SFMA is almost completely accounted for by the extra +12V leads for multiprocessor configuration.  In a uniprocessor board, that power goes unutilized and the connectors just dangle with no purpose.
This power supply makes little sense in a non-server or uniprocessor environment and will probably have a substantial premium in price for little or no added benefit.

  • Steadicam, does anyone here use one?

I was looking at a particular videographers work and niced he had extremely stead video and was obviously using a steadicam (of some type).
Does anyone here have one? Is it worth the hassle? Does it look, just, too awful in a wedding scenario?

You may find getting in and out of the vest / arm a little tedious at a wedding shoot. An option is the Steadicam Merlin which is handheld, a vest and arm are about to be released (or have just been released) to suit the Merlin and you could bye this at a later date. It's nice to have the option though of going without the vest and arm. Be aware though that long shots can be quite strenuous using these small handheld rigs.
Tip, if you do decide to purchase a vest mounted version and you usually wear a formal jacket when working weddings, wear the vest under your jacket.
You may also like to do a workshop before you buy. This will give you some idea about whether it's worth buying and if it is you'll learn a lot. If not you haven't bought an item you can't use and you have the experience to rent and use one on special occasions.
If you are in the USA Peter Abrahams << <a class="jive-link-external-small" href="http://">http://www.steadicamflyer.com/ >> runs workshops and sells Flyers.

  • Does anyone here use Network Solutions? (shared hosting)

I've been attempting to link to my mySQL database through the Dreamweaver interface for the purpose of writing web-based applications. I consistently get an error that indicates that some problem exists but is not specific. A colleague suggested that permission set on the mySQL server might not allow REMOTE accept to the database schema. I called Network Solutions and got a somewhat tenuous reply that perhaps their shared hosting services won't allow me to use Dreamweaver in this fashion.
Does anyone here actually use Network Solutions (in other than a VPS-mode) and is successful in connecting to their mySQL database?
(NOTE: I am able to get the phpMyAdmin application running on the Network Solutions server to connect and display the contents of the database. But the mySQL GUI applications connect and give some information but to date have not allowed me to the see the full extent of the databse information the way phpMyAdmin does.)
Any suggestions for which ISPs do allow a successful connection would be appreciated. I am told too that many folks run a local version of PHP/mySQL on their Macs (which is what I am using) and do their work locally. Has this been the predominate mode of working for most of you?

generally most people use a local testing server to do their work.  the easiest way to do this on your mac is MAMP. http://www.mamp.info/en/downloads/index.html
Although macs do come ready to support php/mysql, it will make you're life much easier using mamp.  simply start it up and apache php mysql are all ready to rock.  test your pages in the htdocs folder and connect to mysql using the localhost connection (and make sure you pay attention to the ports... use 3306 if confusion sets in).
as for connecting remotely to a database, yes it can be done... i do it all the time with my hosting (that is not NS), and you're have to do it that way if you're working on a sql server database / asp from your mac.  but for now, i'd just work locally.

  • Anyone here use a DrumKAT with Garageband?

Maybe someone can help. My setup is DrumKAT (dk10) into iMac with MIDI-USB cable. My problem is when I close the HiHat with my Pintech pedal, all the pad sound start wavering with tremelo. It does not happen if I play through EZDrummer with Garageband closed, but I'll be needing to record in Garageband and I like the standard drum sounds in Garageband '09.
Does anyone have the answer as to why this is happening? Or if you have a DrumKAT and do not notice this, what is your setup?

Update, Here we are a month later. I upgraded from a DrumKAT dk10 to a 3.8. I did this because I discovered the dk10 didn't have a continuously variable hit hat control function. Well, one of the first things I did after getting lost in the complicated DrumKAT interface for a few hours, was controlling Garageband.
No boing boing with the 3.8.....however, now the hat pedal raises the note like a tympani pedal. I'm sure this is not an Apple problem, but a DrumKAT problem, but still, if anyone is using any KAT with any Apple computer, please respond.

  • Does anyone here use a Novation Nocturn with Logic 8?

    Hi there!
Does anyone here have a Novation Nocturn and use Logic 8?
If so, how am i supposed to get Logic to record the modulation from the Nocturn? I've written a synth line using an automapped instance of V-Station and when I play it back it will respond to changes (e.g. opening the filter) from the Nocturn. Then I arm the track and record whilst moving the Nocturn's knobs....again, i can hear the changes, but when i play it back none of the modulation has been recorded.
Logic must be receiving some sort of data because, when recording, it'll start drawing a box on the event window as a twiddle the knobs....but this just vanishes after I press stop.
Any ideas? The Nocturn seems like a great piece of kit, but it's completely useless to me unless I can record modulation from it.
    Thanks in advance!

  • Zenbe Lists - anyone here using it?

If anyone here is a Zenbe Lists user I have a few basic questions on which I'd appreciate some advice please. I was unable to raise these via their ticketed support form, which appears to be broken.
    1. found my lists OK on my PC using my Firefox web browser. But not on my smartphone (Touch Pro 2 running Windows Mobile 6.1) using either the built-in Opera browser or the alternative MSIE 6. Is that not possible? I thought the attraction of the app was access via the web to any device?
    2. Is there no Sort or Priority facility on the web browser, matching those functions on the iPad?
    3. On neither iPad nor PC can I find a way to edit the name of a list, which seems a pretty basic flaw.

  • JSR 94 Compliant Search Engines: Has anyone here used any?

    Folks,
We're currently migrating a 3270 application to a servlet/jsp application. As part of this migration we're
getting rid of our mainframe rules engine (largely because of horrendous licensing I understand).
I've done some research and found out about JSR 94 (the proposed standard API for Rules Engines).
Is anyone here currently using or in the process of implementing a JSR 94 compliant rules engine?
Did you decide against JSR 94?
    Any input is appreciated.
BTW - Here's the link for those who haven't seen JSR 94.
    http://www.jcp.org/en/jsr/detail?id=094

There are a number of complient rules engines. however it would seem that the APi development has
not quite finished yet (although I doubt there will be any further changes).
Part of the Reference Implementation is a wrapper that uses the Jess rules engine

Another free engine that claims support for JSR94 is drules

Please note that I have not used either of these implementations.

  • Is anyone here using a blu-ray drive on an iMac to play BDs?

To be able to play blu-rays I consider buying an external drive,
Windows (which version...?) and 'WinDVD® 9 Plus Blu-Ray':
    (http://www.corel.com/servlet/Satellite/us/en/Product/1189528458632#versionTabvie w=tab2&tabview=tab0)
Is anyone here who can confirm that this REALLY works on iMacs?
    Thanks!

OS X cannot play BD movies due to licensing issues, regardless of the drive. However, if you install Windows on your Mac, that can play back BD movies provided you also install properly licensed player software (Windows has no native support for it either).
The issues relate to how OS X drivers work and meeting the complex requirements of the BD consortium on implementing a playback mechanism that implements all of the DRM limitations and controls required. Presumably Apple is working on it as they've mentioned the difficulty in licensing BD movie playback to the press on several occasions and the consortium themselves have made changes to the licensing procedures as a result.
Otherwise, BD drives and reading/writing work just fine on OS X.

Antec's work fine and dandy with a64's for the majority of ppl, the issue arises when it is heavily o/ced I don’t mean 220 o/c mine starts to have probs @ about 2800mhz up, the 12volt rail gets taxed and usually shows up in dropping back to desk top and blank blue screens or plain old random restarts when loading the system i.e. bench marking.
To give you some idea my system would drop to about 11.2v with my msi neo and about 11.6 on the asus, a lad I know has just brought a k8ne asus board with 3200 Newcastle and his is even lower. But with all the o/cing these days more ppls are trying it hence problems all though some really have nothing to do with psu's
Not a huge issue as most ppls with a64 will never see O/c’s like that
I think that was over at AnandTech the review on the 64 mentioned the problems
he was having with antec's when O/Cing
I should add with antec , my tagan runs sweet as and didn't cost a arm and a leg
