Anyone hook up Airport Extreme to a WD HD player?

I have a Western Digital HD media player being shipped to me and I know it isn't equipped with any ethernet connector. Does anyone think its possible to daisy chain the airport extreme, to an external hard drive and then to the WD HD player? This way I can transfer files through airport to the WD HD player.
There are several companies that manufacture external hard drive cases that can fit underneath the mac mini. Does anyone know if they have the same for the airport extreme? Or is the airport extreme and the mac mini the same dimensions? Thank you!

What about a Network System storage device?
What exactly?
The USB port on the AEBS can not be connected to the WD HD player.

just hooked up airport extreme. works on mac but won't allow phone or iPad on. how do i get them to connect?

How old are the various devices? It could be possible for you to have configured a very new AirPort Extreme in a way that older iPhones and iPads could not access. For example, could you have set up the Extreme to use only 801.11n and 5GHz?

  • After hooking up AirPort Extreme, I cannot get on the Internet

Just installed AirPort Extreme.  After following instructions and turning power off several times in attempt to reset, I still cannot get back on the Internet. Does anyone have any ideas?

Can you provide information on the make and model number of your modem?

  • Why does my internet constantly freeze since I hooked up Airport Extreme?

I purchased an Airport Extreme for Wi-Fi and to back up my MacBook files.  I had it hooked up for about 2 week now and since then, it seems our internet is constantly freezing.  Sometimes its just once other times it happens every few minutes.  We stream video often and it has been getting stuck all the time.   It seems to be the worst in the early morning and around 8:30 at night.
I'm not network savvy but will try to secribe how it is hooked up.  I have the airport connected via a modem (not wifi) with Ethernet.  The internet is DSL.  There is also a security camera connected to a D-Link router that I plugged into the Airport.  There's also some kind of internet feed for our PV system that I connected directly into the Airport too.
We have Apple TV, 1 Macbook, 2 iPads, 2 iPhones, 1 iTouch, 2 PCs, 1 Sam Sung phone.   There can be up to 3 devices streaming video at once.  I thought it had something to do with the D-Link camera but not sure.
We disconnected the Airport today and connected a Westtell router and so far no freezing.  I saw some posts about D-Link and Airport Extreme not being compatible but I'm not sure what that means.  If they are incompatible, does that mean I have to choose to use the Airport and get rid of the security camera or vice versa??
I'm frustrated because the Extreme was expensive and I'm wondering if I can ever get it working.

On your MacBook: Go to System Preferences > Network. Select Wi-Fi from the left column. Click the Advanced... button.
Under the Preferred Networks list, select every Wi-Fi network that appears and delete each one using the "–" (minus) button. Select the box "Remember networks this computer has joined" if it is not already selected.
    OK then Apply.
Select your AirPort Extreme's wireless network in your Mac's Wi-Fi menu, and determine if that solves its connection problems.
Our alarm company set up the camera with the D-Link before we got the Ariport and we can't figure out how to hookup the camera to the Airport without the D-Link.
You may need to solicit the security company's help. Adding your Extreme to your network as a router constitutes a fundamental change in your network's design. If you are now using the Extreme as your router, the D-Link router should be reconfigured as a bridge. Depending on the nature of your security system, it may not be required at all, but your concern about the security camera requiring specific port forwarding settings is justified. Changing your router from the D-Link to the Extreme may require forwarding specific ports using AirPort Utility, otherwise your security camera's video may not be accessible from the Internet. This goes beyond any help I can provide, since your security system has requirements of its own.
Configuring the Extreme as a bridge is likely to solve the problem... but if the D-Link wireless router was sufficient, do you really need another access point? The reason I'm asking is this:
... I purchased an Airport Extreme for Wi-Fi and to back up my MacBook files.
If you need a wireless backup device for Time Machine, a Time Capsule may be a better choice.

  • One of my Macs doesn't see USB drive hooked to Airport Extreme

I have three Macs on my home network. Two of them can see the USB drive I've attached to my Airport Extreme, but the third -- a recent Intel Mac Mini -- won't. Airport Utility on the Mac Mini sees the drive, but Airport Disk Utility doesn't. Here's what I've tried:
    ~ Restarting the Airport Extreme
    ~ Retarting the Mac Mini
~ Reinstalling the Airport Extreme software on the Mini.
    Any ideas?

have you gone to the network button in the finder and searched for it after pushing the network button?

  • Which wires to hook up Airport Extreme card in Early 2009 Mac Pro??

I have a new two processor 2.66GHz Quad core that needs an Airport Extreme card. I ordered one from OWC, but the manual does NOT cover the 2009 models. I have three terminals on the card marked 0,1,2. The wires are labeled 1,2,3. Bluetooth was already installed so the BT wire is already in place on the module. What is the correct combination of wires to use on the 3-terminal board?

I realize it isn't trivial. There are lots of permutations and you've got to open up the Mac and pull out the processor tray for each one. Sometimes that's what you've got to do when you're a pioneer. (Well, that and the silly Levi's commercials.)
The other alternative is to pry the information from OWC tech support -- if they even have it.

  • Older Airport Extreme Base Station and roku Player - NG

    Hello
Have read many compatibility issues with roku and Apple Airport routers. And yes, I've read all the solutions, but they are complicated and not fool-proof especially considering the possible outdated band frequency and technology of this 7 year old Apple router, and 10.4.11.
My question: would it be a better bet, (fewer or no compatibility issues), to just spring for the extra $$$ and pick up an Apple TV Box?
    OR
Will I still be facing the same compatibility issues?
    Thank you
    Mike

    Hey BD
How are you my ole friend?
So then, this puts an end to our misery.
We would need to use another machine with 10.5, and possibly get a newer router, in order to set up a network for either roku or Apple Box TV?
    Yes?
BTW - No One would reply to this question on the Apple TV thread - you are exemplary.
    Thank you ....

  • HELP- I am trying ton configure Airport Extreme on a pc

Okay here is the story. My dsl modem went out. They sent me a new modem a Westell 6110 and they had to do something to my line to make the new modem work on my line. Well when I hooked my airport extreme back up, I could not get signal through it.
I have the modem ethernet cable into WAN port, ethernet cable from LAN port on airport to a windows computer. I could not get internet through it. So a friend told me that I needed to manually configure the modem with my ipconfig information so I did that and nothing so after clicking here and clicking there the system would not even recognize the aiport anymore, so I disconnected and hooked the dsl directly into the computer so I could start researching it.
Does anyone know what I can do? I am at the end of the rope and the other end is wrapped around this darn airport and I feel like slinging it.
    Help!!!!!!!!!!anyone

Do you get Internet connectivity if you plug your PC directly, using an Ethernet cable, to the Westell modem? Does your DSL provider require PPPoE to be setup for connectivity to their service?
Assuming both are true, then we would need to check the AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBS) settings...before doing so, you should perform a power recycle of the modem and AEBS to allow time for the modem to "recognize" the AEBS.
    Modem/Router Power ReCycling
    - Power-off the DSL modem & AEBS. (Wait at least 30 minutes. If possible, leave the modem off overnight.)
    - Power-on the DSL modem; Wait at least 30 minutes.
    - Power-on the AEBS; Wait at least 5 minutes.
    Setup the AEBS
Connect your computer directly (using an Ethernet cable) to the LAN port of the AEBS, and then, using the AirPort Admin Utility, check these settings:
    AirPort tab
    - Base Station Name: <whatever you wish or use the default>
    - AirPort Network Name: <whatever you wish or use the default>
    - Create a closed network (unchecked)
    - Wireless Security: Not enabled
    - Channel: Automatic
    - Mode: 802.11b/g Compatible
    Internet tab
    - Connect Using: PPP over Ethernet (PPPoE)
    - Account Name: <ISP account name>
    - Change password: <ISP password>
    - Always stay connected (checked)
    - WAN Ethernet Port: Automatic
    Network tab
    - Distribute IP addresses (checked)
    - Share a single IP address (using DHCP & NAT) (enabled)

  • Uses 4 Airport Extreme w/ Broken WAN port

Does anyone know if there are any uses for an Airport Extreme 802.11n Base station that has a broken WAN port?
I find myself with a piece of hardware in this state. I am aware that AppleCare fixes these issues, but I just got to wondering. Thanks.

Yes, that's correct. Just be sure to get the AirPort Extreme in bridge mode.
With the WAN port not working, that leaves the 3 LAN ports. One will be occupied by the ethernet connection from your other router, so you'll have 2 available LAN ports for ethernet devices. If you need more LAN connections, you could add a 5 port or 8 port switch, etc.
If you want to use the AirPort Extreme to create a wireless network, and you already have another wireless router providing your network, you could setup the AirPort Extreme to effectively extend your wireless network. Use the same wireless network name, same security and same password as your "main" router and you'll have a seamless wireless network. Computers will automatically connect to the router with the strongest signal.
If you don't need to extend your network, you could use the AirPort Extreme to setup a "guest" network with a separate wireless name and password, etc.
Basically, with the WAN port dead, the only thing that you could not do is hook the Airport Extreme up directly to a modem and set it up to be the "main" router on a network.

  • Sonos comparability with airport extreme

Songs has a compatabilty problem with my charter/Cisco router. Is Apple extreme compatable?

I have contacted both Charter and Sonos Tech Support. Charter support knew nothing about Sonos. The Sonos Tech referred me to a FAQ page that listed the charter  router series (Cisco) as incompatible... Doesn't clarify how or why. The tech suggested that I have the wireless function of the router switched off and hook on a different router. The FAQ also discouraged apple airport express routers since they have only one Ethernet port. So, anyone have an Airport extreme working with Sonos?

  • Using Airport Extreme Base Station As A Wireless Card?

    Hi,
I don't know if this is even possible but here's what I'd like to do:
I've started to share an internet connection with a cousin of mine that lives in my apartment building. The connection is in her apartment and as far as I can tell the wireless signal is coming from the modem she has, there is no stand alone router/ base station. So far I've just been connecting using my iBook with the aiport card in it. No problems. I just had to get the ip number and password from her and I was hooked right up.
    Here's my real question:
I also have a G4 Mini with no wireless card in it at all and an Airport Extreme base station from before we started sharing a connection. In the time that we've been sharing I haven't connected to the internet at all using the Mini. Now I'm wondering if there is a way I can hook the Airport Extreme to the Mini and somehow use it as a replacement for a wireless card in the Mini. Thus using the Mini connected to the Airport to connect just the Mini to the internet.
I'm not worried about the iBook and do not wish to reconfigure the way I'm using/ connecting with it. Everything is peachy with that.
If this is possible, how can I do it?
Thank you in advance for any help with this.

She has an "integrated" modem/router/access point.

Set up the AEBSn as a "bridge" and connect the G4 Mini to one of the "wired" internet connections.

  • Has my Airport Extreme gone bad?

We had bad storms on Saturday that knocked out a lot of people's power. Mine was not but the next afternoon, and since then, I haven't been able to get online. The ISP (Mediacom) said everything is fine with my modem and that speeds are up to snuff. I checked the AEBS in airport utility and got couple errors. They were DNS needed and conflict with my beginning and ending IP addresses. I resolved these by putting in the OpenDNS IPs and putting some DHCP IPs in but still won't connect. The WiFi meter on macbook pro shows zero bars but when I click on the part to select which network to join it shows my network with full strength yet won't join.
Then I tried plugging Ethernet from my modem (Motorola surfboard SB4200) directly into my macbook pro and I keep getting a 'self-assigned IP address and won't connect to internet' message.
I've tried just about everything (powered everything on and off, different cords) but can't get 'et up and running.
Is my AEBS failing? Should I reset to factory default?
I need internet for part of my income so help is GREATLY needed.

+Then I tried plugging Ethernet from my modem (Motorola surfboard SB4200) directly into my macbook pro and I keep getting a 'self-assigned IP address and won't connect to internet' message+
This would suggest that the modem is not functioning correctly. If it were, you should have an internet connection assuming that the computer is working correctly.
If you verify that you can get an internet connection when your computer is connected directly to the modem....but then find that you cannot when you hook the AirPort Extreme up directly to the modem, then that would suggest a problem with the AirPort Extreme.
It won't make much sense to try other things until you can verify that your internet service is working correctly. I don't mean to place blame, but in my experience, the ISP always says their stuff is working perfectly. That may be, but you need to verify.
Be sure you reset the modem when you make any change in the device that is connected directly to the modem. I assume that you are doing this already since this is common practice with a cable modem.

  • Wifi printing with Airport Extreme

Have iPad (1st gen) and iMac. Just hooked up Airport Extreme as router and have printer plugged to it. My printer (Epson Stylus NX400) isn't an Airprint-enabled printer. Is there any way to print from the iPad.
    Thanks,
    Armando

    Armando-
There are a couple of possibilities.
    1.  Use an iPad App like Print n Share.  It has its own mail, browser, photo and text programs that can print to some non-AirPrint printers.  I don't know if it can print from within other iPad Apps or not.  For Print n Share or PrintCentral, contact EuroSmartz to find out if your Epson is supported.
    2.  I assume you can print from the iMac.  It is possible to share the iMac's printer as AirPrint over WiFi.  There are programs such as Printopia.  There is also a Hack that can add a small text file to a SnowLeopard hidden folder, that allows printer sharing as AirPrint.  Search the web for AirPrint Activator, and you should find it.

  • My new Airport Extreme will not allow access to a Microsoft Exchange server

I just installed a new Airport Extreme at home and now I cannot access my work e-mail which is on a Microsoft Exchange Server.  If I go back to my old wi-fi Access Point my work e-mail comes in and out with no problems, but when I hook the Airport Extreme it keep saying the connection is bad and to check the e-mail username and password.

If you setup the AE wrongly, as a router when you already have a router, then you must bridge the AE. Apple nowadays reckon they should be top dog and force the AE to router mode.. unfortunately this is wrong on at least 50% of the setups and their support says double NAT doesn't matter.. well it does matter.
You can do a simple test.. traceroute 8.8.8.8 from terminal or network utility.
If you find two separate private IP addresses the AE is setup wrongly and it must go to bridge mode.
Eg.. here is mine.. you will note there is hop 1, the main router.. 192.168.2.254 and the next hop is internet IP.
What you want to avoid is 10.0.1.1 and then 192.168.1.1 or any other combo of private IP addresses.
If the AE is setup correctly and there is only a single private IP in the traceroute then you have a different issue.
The AE is blocking the ports required for you to access your mail.
You will need to setup manual port forwarding to get this working. There is no firmware fix as this issue is in every firmware for the AC version AFAIK, but certainly if you are trying on previous firmware check for upgrade.
Port forwarding check what ports are required..

  • How can I change the name of a shared folder/hard drive hooked up to my airport extreme?

    Hello,
I was curious if anybody here may know the answer to the problem I'm facing. It seems like such an easy task, but I just can't figure it out.
I have an airport extreme a1143 hooked up to my network directly to my router via Ethernet. I have a USB Ext. HD connected to AEBS. When I click on the Airport Extreme in "Shared" under Finder on my Mac, it pulls up a little folder with people on it (meaning it's shared). It is my Ext. HD, but it's called "NO NAME".
As silly as it sounds, like it to be called something other than, "NO NAME". Does anyone know how I can change this?
    Thank you,
    Mike

Eject the drive, if is mounted on your desktop
Temporarily,  connect the drive directly to your Mac, and wait for it to mount on the desktop
Click slowly on the name of the drive, and you will be able to edit the name of the drive
Eject the drive and connect it back to the AirPort Extreme
