Anyone know a good place for Sony camcorder batteries?

This is a bit off-topic for this forum, but does anyone know a good online store where I can order spare batteries for a Sony HDR-SR5 camcorder? One battery isn't going to cut it. I know some of you on this post have an SR5.
The Sony store is waaaay too expensive, and all the off-brand online stores seem too dogdy.
Thanks,
Otto

I wouldn't expect a big drop too soon. That's a lot of RAM density on a small board. Unless there's a major increase in demand I wouldn't expect much of a drop in price.
No doubt there may be cheaper prices than Datamem's. Although their prices are usually competitive, they are not always the cheapest. But they do offer good service, fast delivery, have a good return policy, and experience with Macs. My recommendation is based on a 10 year history with them which has been 100 percent satisfactory.
But $500 for a marginal 1 GB of RAM is a lot. I'm not convinced it's enough to warrant going from 2 GBs to 3 GBs. I have 2 GBs in mine and it seems perfectly fine for my needs.

  • Does anyone know a good app for mastering music?

I like mixing music, and I really want a simple solution to mastering on iPad. At my church, we have Adobe Audition but I don't have easy access to that. I need something on iPad.

Garageband plus AU plugins, such as isotope OZone, etc. This is the cheapest.

I'm traveling to London for the summer, does anyone know a good power adapter/converter for my MacBook Pro? I know there's the Travel Adapter Kit but it's only for iPhones, iPods, iPad, etc.

    Apple World Travel Adapter Kit
The World Travel Adapter Kit includes the Apple USB Power Adapter, USB Cable and six interchangeable AC adapter plugs for use with iPod, iPhone, and iPad. The adapter plugs can also be used with Apple MagSafe Power Adapters, Portable Power Adapters, and AirPort Express, so you can plug your power adapter into most electrical outlets around the world.

I guess I don't really agree with that. There are still a few Mac magazines around. Interestingly, they are often magazines from the UK. I find it funny that there isn't a big enough market in the US to support homegrown Mac magazines, but they continue to print them in the UK with a much smaller market, and ship them over here. But I digress. I do think the points you cite for the demise of Mac magazines are all incorrect. The same system works just fine for any number of other magazines. The difference is the reader...
    Google is your friend.
Now I greatly disagree. Not only is Google not your friend, but it (or rather the internet - it gets hard to tell the two apart anymore) is turning into a massive source of disinformation. There was a time when programmers were expected to read the manual, read magazines, and try things out in order to figure out how to do something. Now, we are expected to just Google it.
Well, I do Google things on a regular basis and I find the advice dispensed to be wrong or otherwise useless more than half the time. Google is on the way out. Information networks are the wave of the future. That is why people come here. Apple Discussions is more reliable than Google.

  • Anyone know a fast converter for moving my movies into itunes?

I just got an apple tv2, i have airvideo on my IP4 that works but i want to stream movies from my PC directly to ATV2. Problem is that i have like 300 movies that aren't converted for itunes... Anyone know a good/fast converter? Would be nice if it could automatically add the file into my itunes and even delete the old file after its done conversion. OR even better if theres a way without conversion at all =) thx

You definitely need them in iTunes and they also have to be compatible with ATV to stream from PC

In terms of converters there's handbrake, mpeg streamclip, visual hub..those are ones that I have found to be of good quality.

  • Does anyone know of a place that has a macbook pro retina in stock (UK)

looking for a MBP-R 2.3 urgently before i head back home , does anyone know of a place with current stock (UK)

I looked at Primos ads and different models have different connectivity. However most use an SD memory card that can be removed from the camera and inserted in the SD card slot included in all imacs since late 2009.
If you post the model you are investigating, we can help you further reseach how their images are transferred
You may also want to look at the Primos site:
    http://www.primos.com/products/game-cameras/
and their support material. They have one KB article in Support stating that some Apple laptops don;t read SD cards larger than 8GB but there is no mention of this happening with iMacs. An external USB card reader:
    http://eshop.macsales.com/Search/Search.cfm?Ntk=Primary&Ns=P_Popularity%7c1&Ne=5 000&N=7106&Ntt=usb+reader
overcomes the laptops' problem according to the article.

  • Does anyone know how good the SAMPSON USB mic is compared to...

Does anyone know how good the SAMPSON USB mic is compared to having a dedicated audio interface with lets say a good condenser mic?
I am going to be doing some vocals and need a very good quality recording.
It just seems pretty simple right now to use a high quality USB.....
Rather than getting an interface (which I will be getting down the road)
but how "high" is the quality of the Sampson USB mic? Say even compared to
an AKG condenser?? Will I get 90% of the way there compared to an AKG mic and an dedicated audio interface (like the firepod or m-audio-410)
and also if anyone knows will the difference in audio interfaces affect the actual recording quality by a great difference?
    thanks, technoreid

I have a Samson C01U USB Studio Condenser mic that I use most of the time.
    PRO
To be honest it's really a lot of bang for the buck (about $90 at Sam Ash Music) and incredibly simple to use.
It's well-built (the screen is very rugged, and it has a good amount of heft to it.
Given that GB 3 has a lot of decent vocal presets (and software outboard equipment) in it now (with radio/podcast settings and voice over stuff) you can get it to sound pretty good. In that sense, I think it is an ideal podcast or voice over mic.
It's easy to use, just like GB itself. I am a BIG fan of using equipment that is intuitive and does not thwart the creative process, and the Samson fits the bill. Pull it out of its storage bag; plug in the USB cord into the mic and then into the USB port of your Mac and Voila! you're in business.
    CON
You are limited by the length of a USB chord, whereas XLR cables into a firewire analog to digital piece of outboard gear will have XLR in, and XLR cables are the standard for long distances mic usage.
One track, mono at a time. There is no way (that I know of) to effectively do simultaneous stereo recording. But if you are using GB as a composition tool (as I do) you do most of your instruments in GB and only vocals (and maybe guitars) live and only one at a time.
You get what you pay for. Is the Samson C01U as good as a Neumann U87 into a tube-based Analog to digital preamp? Is it the way I would record vocals for a major record release? No. But the difference isn't like listening to a scratched 78 rpm shellack record versus a digital recording either. For most applications, the difference is minimal. How much? I don't have the testing instruments to quantify.
But then again, there's something to be said for spending $90 versus $3,800 (SRP) for a U87 and $2,300 (SRP) for a PreSonus ADL-600 Stereo Hi Volt Tube Mic Preamp......

  • Does anyone know a adequate program for a cleaning MacBookPro

    Hi !
I want to know ... does anyone know a adequate program for a cleaning MacBook Pro?
Something really affective and appropriate for MacBokPro

OnyX is popular for cleaning up your system.  You typically should not experience performance degradation over time however.  If your system is not performing well, you should track down the cause.  If you just want to keep things tidy and clean up some space OnyX is a good choice.  You can download it for free directly from Apple:

Also anyone know a good site to find forms to use on site if it is not hosted by Adobe?  I'm using EmailmeForms and seem to be having trouble.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hello,
Please refer to the post : http://forums.adobe.com/message/4406164 for your Password protected pages query.
And regarding webforms, you can try Jotforms for using webforms with not using Business Catalyst as your hosting service.

  • Does anyone know the default size for 24 in. imac display?

I inadverently changed the display size on my 24 inch imac. The font in the toolbar at the top of the desktop is larger than I want. Also, when I open windows in different applications, they open larger than the display and have to be downsized in order to see the entire window.
Does anyone know the default size for this display? Or is there a different way to fix my issues?
    thanks in advance.

Hi Napamike2: The default setting for the 24" is 1920X1200. If that doesn't get you back to the proper display, maybe you have accidentally activated "Zoom". To check go to System Preferences, Universal Access. Check that Zoom is turned off.

This is the top story at this writing at AppleInsider:
Like the updated mid-2014 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display, Apple's latest 15-inch notebook brings slightly speedier Intel processors. But with memory, graphics and design all carried over from last year, the most substantial change is a $100 price cut.

  • Hi all ,anyone knows some usefual Codecs for H.264 live video/audio

I'm headache about the JMF codecs ,they are too few ,and seems inefficiency, anyone knows pure java codecs for H.264 or MPEG4 ?And I think it's better a open source one ,do my thanks , guys!

    Here are some basics....
FMLE creates RTMP protocol streams that PCs and Macs watch with Flash players.   iOS devices don't understand RTMP (Flash), only HLS delivery of 10 second chuncks of downloaded video playback.  Both systems understand H.264 video, but iOS wants to see AAC audio not MP3.
You didn't state how you are live streaming, meaning what bandwidth delivery service you are using.  Live streaming only via RTMP won't get you to successful iPad and iPhone HTTP Live Stream.  On-demand delivery to iOS devices normally requires .mp4 video files to be hosted, which Macs and PCs also understand via RTMP delivery.   But unless your delivery service can convert .f4v or .flv files to .mp4 on the fly there is no easy way to to get to iOS via the direct file output of FMLE as of today.   Sometimes we upload live encoded project files to our www.Wistia.com account for PC, Mac and iOS delivery.  This is a YouTube / Vimeo paid type hosting service for on-demand only.
Some commercial CDNs (Content Delivery Networks) today allow an inbound live RTMP into their system using FMLE.  Then they re-mux that RTMP stream into HLS delivery for iOS.  Some work well using the native MP3 audio codec (Internap), but most require FMLE to have the AAC audio codec installed from Main Concept for $200.  Or people use Wirecast from Telestream which is $500 per license to be able to run two instances on that one license.
In my 15 years of being a big commercial webcaster here in Silcion Valley, I have yet to find the perfect simple and easy and affordable RTMP to HLS live and on-demand delivery system.  We currently do it different ways with multiple providers depending on the job.  More offerings are coming out now and we try them all as they come down the pike.
