Anyone know a good place to get a 2GB chip for the new Core 2 duo MBP 2.16

I jst sold my MBP 17 ionch fro the core 2 duo so I can have three GBs Of ram for ma audio apps. I am trying to find a decent priced 2GB chip unless there is a typo crucial says 929.00 I almost passed out. I used to get all my ram there but that is just too high any other suggestions

I wouldn't expect a big drop too soon. That's a lot of RAM density on a small board. Unless there's a major increase in demand I wouldn't expect much of a drop in price.
No doubt there may be cheaper prices than Datamem's. Although their prices are usually competitive, they are not always the cheapest. But they do offer good service, fast delivery, have a good return policy, and experience with Macs. My recommendation is based on a 10 year history with them which has been 100 percent satisfactory.
But $500 for a marginal 1 GB of RAM is a lot. I'm not convinced it's enough to warrant going from 2 GBs to 3 GBs. I have 2 GBs in mine and it seems perfectly fine for my needs.

  • Anyone know a good place for Sony camcorder batteries?

This is a bit off-topic for this forum, but does anyone know a good online store where I can order spare batteries for a Sony HDR-SR5 camcorder? One battery isn't going to cut it. I know some of you on this post have an SR5.
The Sony store is waaaay too expensive, and all the off-brand online stores seem too dogdy.

  • HT3302 Where can I get a screen replaced for the new ipad?

Do apple repair screens for the new ipad?

Apple does not repair iPads, but if the screen has been damaged due to accident will replace the entire iPad for a flat fee. If you have AppleCare+ on the iPad, the cost will be relatively minimal; $49 in the US. Otherwise, see the Repair Pricing section here:
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipad/service/faq/
There are independent iPad repair services that may be able to replace the screen for less. Do a web search for "ipad repair".  You can also look for parts and instructions and do the repair yourself. Note, though, that if you elect to have the iPad serviced by an unauthorized shop or perform your own repair, you will get no further support from Apple.
This is the iPod touch forum, by the way.

  • Can you get wireless hard drives for the new ipad as apple again havent increased the size

someone has mentioned that you can get wireless hard dives for the ipad.....this would be beneficial as yet again apple have not increased the size of the maximum hard drive of their new "soon to be released" ipad.....thanks Lee

The wireless "drives", which are more truly media streamers rather than true file storage, continue to be an optiono for the new iPad just as it was for the previous versions. Confirm compatibility with iOS 5.1 before purchasing, just in case the product might need an update for the new version of iOS.

  • Does anybody know a good free .doc or .docx test editor for the iPad?

is there a good free text editor for the ipad 2?

but still why not have full MS Office on the ipad?
Because Microsoft has not made Office for the iPad. And if they do, I can just about guarantee that it won't be free.
There are free text editors, but I know of nothing free that can edit Office documents. iOS can open .doc and .docx documents so you can view them, but to edit them you'll most probably need to buy an app. Creating such an app is a lot of work, so I don't see why spending $10 or so is a "ripoff".
Note that CloudOn works on the company's servers, unless I've completely misunderstood (it's like Google Docs) so you must have a network connection for it to work. If that's fine for you, then that's perhaps a good solution, at least until they start charging (which they'll either do or have advertising).  If you want to be able to create and edit documents on the iPad itself, then you'll need to buy something, I think.

  • TS1398 I just reset my new router name and password and my iPad keeps picking up the old name using the old password. How do I purge the old info and get it to look for the new name?

I installed a new wireless router and connected with my iPad. I then changed the ID and password with ethernet but now my iPad keeps picking up the old router name and password and doesn't see the new name. How can I get it to stop looking for the old name and find the new one?

  • Where is a good place to get a reliable battery for my mid 15" 2009 MBP?

I have seen a few advertisements online for some, but they also have bad reviews. I don't want to send my entire MBP to Apple and have them do it, I can do it. Any suggestions?

You may try iFixit.com and see if they have a battery for your model MBP.
    Ciao.

  • Does anyone know how to join tracks  when importing a symphony? The new iTunes does not do it for me

supposedly therer is a "NO" to check on mounting an audio CD. There is none
supposedly there is a "Combine tracks" choice in the right hand corner of iTunes. There is none.
Any suggestions? (I only do classical music and try always to combine movements of symphonies and concertos etc.)

  • Is anyone else super mad about not having a cd port for the new iMac?

I just bought this new iMac as an upgrade from my old '09 one. I thought this was to have a cd port but it doesn't! I'm super mad because i always used to burn my iMovies onto cds so I could watch them but now I can't. I guess I should've read the box but seriously? If it was good on the old macs they should have it here. I paid the same price for this mac as my old one and I lost one great feature. I need to produce products for people but I can't do that when THERE'S NO FREAKING PLACE TO PUT THE CDS!
    Is there any solution?

Doing a search here reveals several threads including this one:

It's been discussed for some time and external burners are available. I've had one for years.

  • Does anyone know how good the SAMPSON USB mic is compared to...

Does anyone know how good the SAMPSON USB mic is compared to having a dedicated audio interface with lets say a good condenser mic?
I am going to be doing some vocals and need a very good quality recording.
It just seems pretty simple right now to use a high quality USB.....
Rather than getting an interface (which I will be getting down the road)
but how "high" is the quality of the Sampson USB mic? Say even compared to
an AKG condenser?? Will I get 90% of the way there compared to an AKG mic and an dedicated audio interface (like the firepod or m-audio-410)
and also if anyone knows will the difference in audio interfaces affect the actual recording quality by a great difference?
    thanks, technoreid

I have a Samson C01U USB Studio Condenser mic that I use most of the time.
    PRO
To be honest it's really a lot of bang for the buck (about $90 at Sam Ash Music) and incredibly simple to use.
It's well-built (the screen is very rugged, and it has a good amount of heft to it.
Given that GB 3 has a lot of decent vocal presets (and software outboard equipment) in it now (with radio/podcast settings and voice over stuff) you can get it to sound pretty good. In that sense, I think it is an ideal podcast or voice over mic.
It's easy to use, just like GB itself. I am a BIG fan of using equipment that is intuitive and does not thwart the creative process, and the Samson fits the bill. Pull it out of its storage bag; plug in the USB cord into the mic and then into the USB port of your Mac and Voila! you're in business.
    CON
You are limited by the length of a USB chord, whereas XLR cables into a firewire analog to digital piece of outboard gear will have XLR in, and XLR cables are the standard for long distances mic usage.
One track, mono at a time. There is no way (that I know of) to effectively do simultaneous stereo recording. But if you are using GB as a composition tool (as I do) you do most of your instruments in GB and only vocals (and maybe guitars) live and only one at a time.
You get what you pay for. Is the Samson C01U as good as a Neumann U87 into a tube-based Analog to digital preamp? Is it the way I would record vocals for a major record release? No. But the difference isn't like listening to a scratched 78 rpm shellack record versus a digital recording either. For most applications, the difference is minimal. How much? I don't have the testing instruments to quantify.
But then again, there's something to be said for spending $90 versus $3,800 (SRP) for a U87 and $2,300 (SRP) for a PreSonus ADL-600 Stereo Hi Volt Tube Mic Preamp......

And the fact that it's was a vertical, slow-moving, dead-tree, subscription-driven, ad-based business model has nothing at all to do with it... Mac mags died a long time ago, for good reason - get over it
I guess I don't really agree with that. There are still a few Mac magazines around. Interestingly, they are often magazines from the UK. I find it funny that there isn't a big enough market in the US to support homegrown Mac magazines, but they continue to print them in the UK with a much smaller market, and ship them over here. But I digress. I do think the points you cite for the demise of Mac magazines are all incorrect. The same system works just fine for any number of other magazines. The difference is the reader...
    Google is your friend.
Now I greatly disagree. Not only is Google not your friend, but it (or rather the internet - it gets hard to tell the two apart anymore) is turning into a massive source of disinformation. There was a time when programmers were expected to read the manual, read magazines, and try things out in order to figure out how to do something. Now, we are expected to just Google it.
Well, I do Google things on a regular basis and I find the advice dispensed to be wrong or otherwise useless more than half the time. Google is on the way out. Information networks are the wave of the future. That is why people come here. Apple Discussions is more reliable than Google.
