Anyone Know Anything About Replacing Keyboard For Macbook Pro 17 Inch?

So I have a two year old 17 inch 10.5.8 Macbook Pro and stupidly I used too much bathroom cleaner on keyboard and now ten keys dont work including important ones like T, Enter, B, ect. and Im using an external keyboard which makes it difficult to bring it portable.
I took it to the Macbook Store here in Vancouver and it will be around $175 to fix it which is something I dont have. Does anyone recommend buying a used keyboard component on Ebay and installing it myself from tutorials? Has anyone done this?

No, I don't recommend it. Of all the parts to work on in a Macbook Pro (old and new), the keyboard is one of the more difficult to repair/replace. If you haven't opened it up before, the keyboard isn't where you want to start.
It's a pain not worth attempting if you aren't extremely patient, careful, techie and handy. You've got to have all the right tools. I've seen way too many Macbooks/Pros end up in worse shape by unsure owners attempting do it yourself repairs. There is just too much you could damage messing around.
Ifixit.com has repair and tear down guides for every model to give you an idea of what is involved. http://www.ifixit.com/Browse/MacBook_Pro . The pre-unibody models have thin ribbon cables that have to be removed that can tear easily if not handled carefully.
The easier and potentially safer solution is finding a complete replacement palmrest/top case with keyboard on ebay, but it will probably cost as much as what Apple is charging. Otherwise, stick with the external keyboard.

  • Replace keyboard for Macbook Pro

    Hi,
I need a new keyboard for my Macbook Pro 15" with back lighting. It works fine, but I dropped my cigarette and it burned the "esc" key. Again the esc key works, but I have to push it hard, so I think I think that I need to replace the keyboard.
Is this something that can be fixed if I go to the Apple Store, or if not what are my options?
    Thanks,
    Johnny

    Hi my ginger,
    I found a keyboard on E-Bay:

This looks like it will fix my problem. Do you know if this is the right one? here is a image of my system - https://www.dropbox.com/s/if0xnx0u3suruj9/Screen%20Shot%202015-02-05%20at%204.26 .03%20PM.png?dl=0
Well Hopefully I can get somebody at the Apple store to replace it.
    Thanks!

  • Anyone know anything about MBAs with Spanish keyboards?

I'm based in Manila, Philippines. Imagine our surprise, when we bought an MBA still sealed in its box, to discover the documentation all in Spanish, and the keyboard is physically different - different layout, different key assignments stenciled onto the keys, different Enter key. It's not just a matter of changing keyboard layouts in Sys Prefs. Didn't even know there were such things. Trying to get it exchanged for a regular English unit, but so far no good.
Does anyone know anything about this variant of the MBA? Been looking around the net and there doesn't seem to be anything about it at all.

I like the idea of new but doubt I will find what I want between $15,000 - $20,000 and the payment I can afford. We have had cars financed with triad and Santander and i refuse to do business with either of these ever again and when I buy a car I will make sure to tell the dealership not even run through them. Worst to companies I have ever dealt with for an auto loan. A car depreiciates when you drive it off the lot brand new so I don't see how that matters. Only difference is when you buy at a dealer other then carmax they usually have the best warranties which I would really like.We go to our 341 creditor meeting tomorrow so i'll wait until a few days after to start looking for cars again. Can someone tell me what being in the "Garden" means? I see it on a lot of posts?Gardening means that you are not applying for any credit and just letting the accounts get older. But you can get credit limit increases on current accounts with a soft pull. Auto Credit Express will send you to dealers like Byrider, which I don't recommend personally. I did an app with ACE and when I saw that they referred me to them I said never mind. Just on Friday I got an auto loan with Santander for a 2015 Kia Forte. The interest rate is a little high, but I plan on refinancing when I can. I financed right at 20,000 and this is a brand new car. I didn't have a lot of money to use as a down payment and I had a trade in that I still owed 2,336 on. But I really needed a new car. You just have to remain positive and shop around.

  • Does anyone know anything about iPhones and/or iPads having barcode scanners for business purposes?

Does anyone know anything about iPhones and/or iPads having barcode scanners for business purposes?  I am doing some research about the benefits of using a Q R Code type of system, but question which handheld sets would be more compatible for using that type of barcode.  Being a avid Apple supporter, I cannot seem to find very much research on this specific topic.
    Any thoughts?

I have a QR reader on my iphone. Works just brill. I've used it to create business cards, with a boat load more information on it (Including my duty times, etc)
Most of the QR readers in the App store are free, so give them a try. You can copy and paste the data just like normal text.
What application for them did you have in mind?

  • [i4] Does anyone know anything about the camera "patch" is made ?

    Hello everyone!
The "patch" round transparent in front the camera back from my iPhone 4 does more place :-(
I therefore wish to pick up the shiny metal ring.
But what is this "patch"? I need to know the field to select the appropriate glue:
    Metal-Plastic / Metal glass ...
I fear that sticks to the kind cyanolycrate superglue3 leaves me a white film on the wafer if it is plastic ...
Does anyone know anything about this "patch" is made?
    Thank you in advance!
    Merci d'avance !

What patch are you referring to?  I could be wrong, but I do not believe any such "patch" exists.
The only change to the iPhone4's design since it was released last June is that it is now available in white.

  • Does anyone know anything about OrangeSubmit?

    Hello All,
I'm not sure this is pertinent to this forum, but I just got my website up online on HostMonster and they offer "free Search Engine submission" through OrangeSubmit. I don't know anything about this and was wondering if this is really free and if it will help people find my website where I hope to sell jewelry and other items.
If anyone knows anything about this site I'd appreciate hearing from you and/or any other suggestions.
    Thanks, Wendy

  • Anyone know anything about hosting my own email address ?

    hi
im migrating my broadband to a new ISP but they dont host emails - they said i could host my own email -
does anyone know anything about how to do this and also how to do this on my mac ?
sorry - a bit clueless on this issue
    thanks
    tzz

Or, you could actually run your own mailserver. I run a 5-account mail server for immediate family members, three of which are grown adults no longer living at my home. To do this, I got an inexpensive GUI application for the Postfix that is already built-in to your Mac. An outfit called cutedgesystems.com sells one for I think about $25-$30 named Mail Serve Pro. Their help files (on their website) are pretty decent for a very basic primer.
You'll need to have your own server domain name. I went ahead and got my own free domain name through dyndns.com. They have a piece of software that goes on your computer so that every time your ISP changes your WAN IPA on you, it reports the change back to the dyndns servers, so you (and other smtp servers) can always find your machine by host name.
I also bought a paid service of theirs called mailhop relay. It sets them (dyndns) up as a mail transfer agent, so whenever anyone sends mail to any account on your server, it goes to them first to be virus scanned and spam assassinated with black hole lists, whitelists and blacklists. That really cuts down on the spam hitting your server and using up your (likely quite limited as compared to the big boys) bandwidth because it gets stopped upstream. That costs about $40/yr. You'll have to check their website for pricing to make sure.
I also got a service from them called mailhop outbound. It's like $10/yr for the lowest tier of service (150 outbound "relays" (sum of messages times recipients per message) per day). Now, while you could send an unlimited number of emails directly off your server and not bother with this service, if you have a dynamic IP address, you will find that outfits like roadrunner.com block email coming from servers that have a dynamic IP address. They equate dynamic IPAs to spammers. Unfortunate, but that's the way it is. So mailhop outbound relays all outbound mail from your server to dyndns, so the likes of roadrunner will accept messages from accounts on your mail server.
Security update 2008-007, at least on Leopard, broke my mail server. Can't speak to the latest security update for Tiger. That update added a line to /etc/postfix/main.cf that says "inet_interfaces = localhost". You'll have to comment that line out (# as first character in line). You'll need to remember that future OS updates or security updates may reintroduce that line.
You'll need to open SMTP in System Prefs so mail can be received from other smtp servers and so authorized users on remote computers can send mail through your server, and either IMAPS or POPS, in System Preferences, if you will allow roaming computers to receive mail through your server. You'll need to port forward those same ports through your home router to your computer.
Yes, it can be a bit of work to set up and maintain. And you need to be careful and vigilant against unauthorized use and hacking. So you'll get paranoid and start installing network intrusion detection and enforcing other draconian security measures (as well you should). And the computer needs to be left on ideally 24 hr/day, and although the screen may sleep, and the hard drive may sleep when possible, your CPU can never sleep.
So, after all that, that $2/mo domain hosting, or just getting a free AOL account, may not be such a bad idea after all...the above approach costs you about $4.25/mo and you have to maintain it.

  • Does anyone know anything about Mackeeper?

My imac is 2 years old now and im wondering about defragmenting the hard drive and I found Mackeeper and I am wondering if anyone knows anything about it, or if it is even necesary

It is not.  In fact the only tool you need on a Mac is backup software*:
    http://www.macmaps.com/backup.html
MacKeeper is one of the worst pieces of so-called "maintenance" software, and even other "maintenance" software out there should not be used without a good backup plan.

  • Anyone know anything about BLENDER (3d app)

    Hi I'm wondering,
Does anyone know anything about Freeware 3d App Blender? does it Run on the new Intel Mac Mini Machines running Tiger 10.4.5 ? I've tried there boards but got no response....
    Cheers
    Keiran

Just like here I would suggest searching their forums a bit. I was lurking/randomly reading them yesterday and saw a thread about Universal Binary format.
The main folks who do the compiles don't have access to an Intel Mac at the moment – and no plans in the immediate future to acquire one. That doesn't mean that some volunteer can't be found to debug and recompile, but it hasn't happened yet.
Additionally I don't know if Blender will work on the Mac Mini of any sort. The minis have slighly anemic graphic cards. So in the end I think there are two questions here. Good luck.

  • Does anyone know how to set up a macbook pro so that other computers can join me and use my internet connection?

Does anyone know how to set up a macbook pro so that other computers can join me and use my internet connection?

Have you set up any security on the Mac Connection Sharing?
Sorry but I don't use that so I'm not familiar with the settings.
But if you haven't setup and security the iPhone might not mind but I know most Windows computers do not like to connect to Open WiFi. and make sure it is WPA or WPA2.
Then again it may be a setting in the connection sharing like some type of MAC filtering or it may simply be that Mac OS X connection sharing only allows one connection at a time. Try disconnecting your phone and then connect the PC.
As to Linc's response about Windows.
Windows basically does care about connecting to open, unsecured, WiFi. But it will normally pop up a windows asking "Are myou sure you want to connect to this open network". And a simple click on yes will get you connected and an IP address.
So this is clearly a Mac OS X problem.

  • Does anyone know anything about U2 being downloaded for free to everyone with iTunes?

I am wondering about my iTunes account, I heard a whole album was free to everybody with an iTunes account. I apparently got the whole album downloaded into my iTunes account without even realizing it, and it charged me money, so I'm wondering can I get my money back for free because I got charged when this album got downloaded to my iTunes. The album was by U2, and I didn't want to get it or even get charged the money for it, so I'm wondering about this, can someone answer me about this if you know anything about it, thank you.

If you mean the Songs of Innocence album, it's free. If you got charged for it or got an unwanted charge for anything else, click here and contact the iTunes Store staff.
