Anyone know of a hard perspex keyboard cover?

Hi
I have something very specific in mind, and I'm trying to find out if it exists and can be bought. I have a G5 with a standard Apple keyboard, and my wife and I have it running, doing various tasks, pretty much 24/7, whether we're at the computer or not. Some of these tasks (video rendering) can't be disturbed.
We have 4 cats, all of which have adopted the keyboard like it's a kitten seeking sanctuary. In other words, they walk and lie all over it, potentially pressing all kinds of keys.
So, what I'd like to get is this: some kind of hard (possibly clear, but that doesn't matter so much) plastic shell which would fit over the keyboard while we're not using it. It wouldn't allow any keys to be pressed, and could optionally lock to the desk so it won't shift around.
Has anyone seen or heard of such a thing? Please, save me from random feline keypresses.
thanks!
Matt

I would setup a hot-corner for the screensaver, and require a password to exit the screensaver. When you walk away, drag the mouse to the hot corner, the screen saver will start, and then anything your cats input (except the password - don't use "mouse" won't have an affect on the system.

  • Anyone knows if Apple will make keyboards like their laptops?

I recently got my Power Mac G5 and noticed right away how different the keyboard is when compared to my PowerBook G4. The PowerBook was the best keyboard I've ever used both on PC and Mac.
I believe the reason I like the laptop's keyboard so much is that the keys seem to be spaced out more than the one included with my Power Mac. The keys are also a lot thinner and they seem to not sink down as much.
Before getting my PowerBook I used to have carpal tunnel pain in my wrist, but after getting it I could go hours without any pain. I really don't like those curved ergonomic keyboards so does anyone know if Apple has an external keyboard that is the same as my PowerBook? I'm starting to redevelop carpal tunnel pain in my wrist from using my Power Mac's keyboard.
I believe the cramped close together keys is what's causing carpal tunnel pain, so if some manufacture would just space out the keys more instead of forcing us to use weirdly shaped ergonomic keyboards then I would appreciate it. Does anyone know if such a keyboard exist? One that had all the special Apple only keys would be even better.

Apple does not discuss unannounced products,
therefore any guess would be pure speculation, which
is a violation of the terms of use of these

Sorry, I did not know that. I'll keep that in mind for the future.
If you'd like a fullsize keyboard with the feel of a
laptop keyboard, then have a look at Macally:

Thanks! I believe this is what I'm looking for. I'm surprised that Apple doesn't have one themselves since they basically created the PowerBook keyboard. I can't be the only one who notices the comfort difference between Apple's standard keyboard and their PowerBook laptops.
This is also not because it's a laptop, since I've used several PC laptops before too. I don't think it's a coincidence that Apple made their PowerBook keyboards different. As I've said earlier my PowerBook is the most comfortable keyboard I've ever used...and I've used many different keyboards including those ergonomic ones. Anyway, thanks again. I'm going to try out this keyboard from Macally.

  • Does anyone know about a hard drive being corrupted by travelling from a Mac to a PC then back again?

Ok, so I wrote a bunch of data to a Seagate ST2000DL003 3.5 inch 2TB Hard Drive - mac formatted - then put it into a PC and it couldn't read the drive. But when I plugged the drive back into the mac pro the drive was unreadable/corrupt. Does anyone know what's happened and is this data recoverable?

Use Disk Utility "Repair Disk" and see what it says. It may be trivial and easily fixable.

  • Stock Keyboard Stiff Keys--Anyone Know an Outstanding After Market Keyboard

I have a stock mac keyboard (non-wireless) that came with my iMac G5. I purchased the ensemble new in Jun 2005. I noticed that all the keys were more stiff than on other non-Mac keyboards. Also I have always noticed that stock Mac keyboards have stiff keys (not just this one) compared to non-mac keyboards. Stock mac desktop keyboard keys are stiff compared to mac laptops.
With age the keys on my keyboard seem to have gotten stiffer. I have read the other threads where people say to stiff key inquiries, "clean your keyboard."
So this past weekend I removed all of the keys. Took my electric air compressor set it to max 40 psi (read this somewhere as the max pressure for computers) and cleaned out the keyboard. I then painstakingly cleaned each key and keyboard with Windex cut with water.
Results? Jack none! Well, the stiff keys are now clean.
So, enough with this stock keyboard with stiff keys.
Anyone use an after market Mac keyboard (non-wireless). If so what do you recommend?
BTW OWC has a few candidates:
    - icekey
    - OS X keyboard
    - Kensington Slim Type Keyboard for Mac
    -iKEYSLIM
Again anyone with firsthand knowledge have a recommendation?
    Cheers,
    Chuck

    Chuck--
Keyboards are really very personal choices, so your best bet is to try them out for yourself. I've read great things about the Matias Tactile Pro Keyboard, which they compare to the best keyboard I ever owned, the Apple Extended Keyboard. But while some people like it, others hate it. I tried it at a MicroCenter and wasn't terribly impressed, but that's just me. But it might strike you differently.
Other than that one, I haven't really found any that compare to the ones Apple ships. Like you, I think I'd like more of the feel of the laptop keyboards, but I've never seen one in a standalone keyboard.

  • Does anyone know the maximum hard drive size for a 2007 Macbook Pro (A1226)?

I have a 2007 Macbook Pro (A1226). Is there a limit to the sized hard drive that can be installed? If so, what is the largest hard drive I can put into it? I have a 500GB HD that I upgraded to from the 320 GB that was in it when I bought it. I'm now trying to install a 1 TB or 750 GB drive, but after cloning with 'Carbon Copy Cloner' and installing it, I get the "?-folder" flashing when I start up. I'm pretty confident in CCC because if I use it to clone to another 500GB HD, it works fine. The problem only occurs when I try to use larger drives. Is 500GB the largest HD I can use in this machine? If so, can anyone point me to a spec sheet so I can be sure the next Macbook I buy can be expanded to suit me.
    Thanks in advance.
    Brian

You said:  "I've never tried the restore function in disk utility. Would that be the same as cloning the drive?
YES!  See the my old instructions below.  What you might try after step 5 is to restart you MBP holding down the Option key.  Select the new HDD icon and see if it boots.  This way you will know that the new HDD is operable.
    Ciao.
INSTALLING A NEW HDD IN A MB
    1. Make certain that you have backed up all of your important data.
    2. You will need a HDD enclosure.  One with a USB connection will do.  A 9 pin Firewire is better.
    3. Install your new drive in the enclosure and connect it to your MBP.
    4. Open DISK UTILITY>ERASE.  From the left hand column drag the new drive into the 'Name' field.  Make sure that the format is 'Mac OS Extended (Journaled)'.  Click on the 'Erase' button.
    5. Click on the 'Restore' button (on top).  Drag the old drive into the 'Source' field and the new drive into the 'Destination'  field.  Click on the 'Restore' button on the bottom right hand corner.
Depending upon the amount of data you are transferring, this may take a couple hours or more.  A Firewire will speed up the transfer.  This will result in both drives having identical information on them.
    6. After the data transfer has completed, you may swap the drives.  Start the MBP and you have finished the installation.  The initial boot may take a bit longer than you are accustomed to, but that is normal.
    7. When you are satisfied that the new hard drive if functioning properly, you can erase the old drive and use it for any needs that you may have.

  • HT1492 Does anyone knows how to change the keyboard layout in single user mode, please ?

    Hello,
The question is in the title.
    Thank you.

The only way you might do it is use one of the Unix editors to edit the plist file it gets the settings from once it boots in the GUI mode.  'vi' is present in all Macs, and you might have pico, nano, emacs, or ed depending on what was installed. The keyboard layout while in single user mode itself I think is generic to where the Mac was bought and what keyboard was ordered with it, when it came from the store.  Since you posted in the 10.3 or earlier forum, chances are if this has changed, few people would know for certain.  If you have a newer Mac, say 2006 or later, you should really post in the correct forum:

  • TS3274 does anyone know how to fix my keyboard which is on the fritz?

I'm having issues with the keyboard on my iPad - it's either too slow to recognize what you're typing or it will just add extra letters - like aaaaaaple - does anyone have any advice for how to fix this?

    Try a reset:
hold both the Home button and the Power button down for 10+ seconds until the Apple logo appears
let go promptly when the logo appears
wait 30 seconds for your iPad to restart
    no data will be lost

  • Anyone know a travel hard drive that reads cards and is Aperture friendly?

I need a Mac friendly travel HD which reads files from camera cards. I have 2 HDs but they are both more PC friendly. Aperture won't recognize the files when they are on the drive but will when copied to my desk top.

I just looked at the Wolverine data storage: http://secure.mm5server.com/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=WD&Product_Code= 7632&Category_Code=FlashPac
That does not look bad with respect to capacity , weight, size. But the page does not tell anthing about the robustness. If you are travelling rough, you should try to find out about the operational requirements. For example, I once had problems with the drive in my MacBook in Tibet and Nepal; the Mac would not boot for several days. And when I looked at the tech specs, I found that the specification excluded heights above 3000m - I was simply at a too high altitude. If you are travelling into the tropics, you should also look at the humidity specs, and if the device will survive rough handling in your luggage.

  • Does anyone know how to simply edit the text in the spine of hard cover, 40 page book in the book mo

Does anyone know how to simply edit the text in the spine of hard cover, 40 page book in the book module? I can click into any other text window and edit and change attributes but I am locked out of editing text when it comes to the spine of the book. I spoke to Blurb support and they referred me to Adobe. I spent 45 minutes with support here - no one knew. I am still waiting for a call back with an answer... not holding my breath as it's been a few hours now. HELP!!!

Thanks for your reply John. I have experienced all the fiddly aspects you mentioned - these are attributes and although changing them requires the skill of a surgeon's hand - it's the actual editing of the text I can't seem to access anymore. The box just won't allow me to do anything except change attributes. Does that make sense? And it's only on the spine where I am having this issue. Puzzled! I have even rebooted the program and just now the computer - to no avail.

  • Does anyone know a source for a EOS D30 camera lithium battery cover CB2 0666-000

I am wondering if anyone can help me. I have a Canon EOS D30 I inherited from my parents. They hardly used it, so I would like to sell it. However, the round black battery cover for the lithium battery on the bottom of the camera is missing. I thought it would easy to find a replacement, and after an exhaustive internet search, was I surprised to see that it is not available anywhere! Does anyone know if there is a cover from another model that would work? Without it, the camera is rendered useless!!!!!  Canon could only provide me the part #:  CB2 0666-000.  I checked ever site link, and it seems as if this part is now sold out over the world..... THANK YOU to whomever can help me.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

If you just can't find that cover you can always put the battery grip on it. That is probably the reason the original cover is missing anyway as someone had a grip on it. Plus the grip makes it a way much better camera.
I have to agree, though, a 3 MP camera is not very desirable and may not be worth the cost of the grip. But that is a way out for you.

  • Does anyone know where I can get a silicon cover EU layout with letters

I need a silicon cover for the keyboard on my Macbook Air, but not a clear one. And preferably a very thin one. Does anyone know where I can get a EU layout one? There seem to be loads for US keyboard, but I can't find a single one for EU layout, except a clear one. I need one with the letters on, as I have a QWERTZ keyboard, and use QWERTY. I wouldn't even mind a 13" one, as I have just cut down one of these, which is what I am using at the moment, but it's beginning to wear out!
