Anyone know of a Voice Translator that can work without WIFI? for travel
would like to find a Voice Translator APP (don't care about cost) that works without WIFI - for Travel use in some areas with little or no wifi service.
Hey Calchick, I didn't read much of the details, only looked for key words, like offline, translation, etc. Illaass is correct, voice recognition and translation programs tend to be very large. If you have web access, you can talk in your native language and be heard in the foreign language. With out the web, your a text and read operation.
Personal experience, may help you, take of it what you will-- in BC time, (Before Computers) and traveling around, I found if you learn a few basic phrases in the language of the people you are visiting, i.e., things like, "Can you help me?", "Where am I" (have a map in hand when you ask this), "Where is the bathroom", "How much?", "Where do you go eat", "Where's the market?", "Take me to the pharmacy / hospital", and the most important phrase: "Thank You" I know, dumb examples but you get the point, about 20 phrases that cover the basics, who, what, where, when, and how, (think about the questions or things you would ask if you were in a city, in the country you now live, that you have never been in) and a working knowledge of some basic answers, (also, learn a few cruse words, that way you will know if your getting help or the butt of a joke), along with a translation guide book, you can get through almost any situation. Being able to speak even just a little of the other persons language, without using a device, will make most people want to help you, (unless you get a real A-hole), most people will help you if you make an attempt to learn and speak there language, even if it's just a little, (shows you cared enough to try). The translator app just replaces the book, and it will make it easier to learn the phrases. Remember; The app is just a tool, not your mouth. It can get a little rough at times, but generally works, got me through a few countries and made a few friends along the way. Having a soccer ball helps too! Hope this helps, have good travels. Hi, I've lost all song data ( besides song name) on 1,100 WAV files. Does anyone know an app or fix that can identify Album & Artist (& maybe album art) on these files? Thanks

A major drawback with using wav for storage is that it doesn't carry a tag. This means that in the event of a corrupted library the only information remaining is the filename. Other data may be stored in the path but iTunes doesn't know how to get it. I understand that you need this format for your workflow with Diamond Cut, but that makes it all the more important that you backup your iTunes database on a regular basis.
Provided that you still have the tracks in their artist and album folders and haven't let iTunes "reorganise" them you should be able to restore some useful metadata using my script TagFromFilename. The script reads the path and filename, and provided these are in the normal layout of <Path>\<Artist>\<Album>\## <Name>.<Ext> can restore Artist, Album Artist, Track Name and Track Number. If your files have a different but predicatable layout with the same information, e.g. the data is all in the filename, then I could create a suitable version of the script to get the data into iTunes. I recommend you disable both the Keep... and Copy... options in iTunes advanced preferences before adding files to the iTunes database. Ideally you also want a complete backup of your correctly structured folders in case you need to pull copies back from it.
As stated earlier, uninstalling iTunes before the upgrade wouldn't have helped. The crucial thing before any upgrade is to backup all user data from the drive that will be wiped. Typically the iTunes database lives in C:\Users\<User>\Music\iTunes on Vista or Windows 7. The crucial file is called iTunes Library.itl. You seem fairly certain that you don't have a backup database that you could restore but an exhaustive search of your hard drive for files of the form *.itl might still be worth doing. If you find any apart from the active library we can discuss how you open them to see if they are useful.

Lightweight, renders flawlessly, and keyboard controlled (although you can use the mouse too if you want). No flash player required, and I imagine if a text browser is an option (it isn't for me) then you must be willing to put up with broken support for opening new windows via Javascript.

Last night as I was working on a term paper my wife called for my help, I made the mistake of not putting my MacBook Pro up where are four-year-old could not get to it. While I was assisting my wife or daughter somehow managed to get to the reset and reset my MacBook Pro. Now I have worked several years in IT in the Microsoft Windows environment and I know there's all kinds of software tools to recover previous installations of Microsoft products, is there such a tool for Apple Macintosh. If there is, can please somebody tell me the name of the recovery software? I really need to recover the lost files!
Unfortunately OSX doesn't have such good tools like System Restore, etc. If you don't have a TimeMachine backup or another backup of any kind, you're kind of lost. Did you just lose personal files or did you lose everything (apps, etc.). I guess what I'm asking is... I can't exactly tell what your daughter did without you providing more info. Is it possible that she deleted your entire profile? If you've worked in IT for so long, you should be able to provide a more detailed description of the actual problem. What was changed?... You should be able to tell that without asking her.

Using OS10.7, my hard disc is full. When I go to "About this Mac - Storage", it shows that it is entirely filled with "Other". Does anyone know what "Other" is so that I can delete some of it?
First, reboot. That will temporarily free up some space. According to Apple documentation, you need at least 9 GB free for normal operation. You also need enough space left over to allow for growth of your data.
Use a tool such as OmniDiskSweeper to explore your volume and find out what's taking up the space.
Proceed further only if the problem hasn't been solved.
ODS can't see the whole filesystem when you run it just by double-clicking; it only sees files that you have permission to read. To really see everything, you have to run it as root.
First, back up all data if you haven't already done so. No matter what happens, you should be able to restore your system to the state it was in at the time of that backup.
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ If you’re running Mac OS X 10.7 or later, open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the page that opens.
After installing ODS in the Applications folder, drag or copy — do not type — the following line into the Terminal window, then press return:
sudo /Applications/OmniDiskSweeper.app/Contents/MacOS/OmniDiskSweeper
You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up.
I don't recommend that you make a habit of this. Don't delete anything while running ODS as root. When you're done with it, quit it and also quit Terminal. -

Are you sure you have a PowerMac? They can't run Mac OS 10.6.8. Maybe a Mac Pro instead?

No. Rendering is the process of compressing your video to a MPEG2 format required by the DVD specification. This process takes time. Hollywood Studios will use render farms to render just a few frames. In terms of iDVD, the only thing that can decrease your rendering time is by getting a faster processor. After that, you could use DVDSP and multiple computers to create your own networked rendering or purchase specific hardware for the MacPro for MPEG encoding. And these rendering cards start at $2,000 last I looked.

I have a virus on my iPad that sends out bogus emails (no subj and an URL that goes nowhere) to everyone in my contact list. I don't know how it got on my machine (email, non-iTunes apps, etc.) Does any one know of a scanning app that can find this virus and eliminate it? I have an iPad version 3 (WIFI) with 6.0.2 IOS. The chances that it's a virus on your iPad or iPhone is very slim. Who is your mail provider? it's far more likely that your address has been spoofed and it's your mail service that has been compromised not your iDevice. I know my Yahoo mail was hacked and people in my address book received spam mails that I didn't send.

If you simply want to send the exact same message to everyone in your address book with emails ending in "@whatever.com", you can do the following:
Create an email with subject, message and attachments but no addresses
Open Address Book, All Contacts
Search in Address Book for @whatever.com
Select the results and drag them into the To: or Bcc: field of the email. If Bcc: then put your email address in the To: field.
Send the email
This will not personalize the emails (such as with "Dear firstname:" at the top of the message) but it will let you send an idential message to everyone who meets your criteria.
