Anyone know of (legal) shareware to convert FLAC files to iTunes format?

I have a lot of FLAC files which I wish to load into my ATV, but would not like to pay for the conversion software. Is there any LEGAL freeware that anyone is aware of that can do this conversion? I do not want to get involved in any hack software, though....

In this case the shoe is firmly on the other foot, the Mac has an embarrassment of riches in terms of free tools to convert to/from FLAC and Apple Lossless, these include XLD, xAct, Max, and more.
On the Windows side, I would agree with the recommendation to use WinAmp to convert from FLAC to WAV, and then use iTunes to convert from WAV to Apple Lossless. Unfortunately you are likely to need to re-tag the tracks since WAV effectively does not support meta-tags.
The above is a completely free solution. Another approach which should be easier and more efficient is to use dbPowerAmp and addons. However while you can use the trial version, it strictly speaking is a commercial application. See this page for a good summary http://hddaudio.net/?p=343
PS. You could always get a Mac

  • Converting flac films into iTunes format ?

I have a series of films that are in flac format, and wish to put them into iTunes and on my iPad. I have searched on other forums but all of the converters are only for music (flac into mp3). Is there a free converter to put flac into mp4 or another format iTunes would be happy to play? Thanks :)

FLAC is an audio codec only (FLAC stands for "free lossless audio codec"), so that's all you'll find are audio converters. Your movies may use FLAC as the audio track, but the video will be in some other format. You'll need to find a converter that can handle that video format, whatever it is, and also audio tracks in FLAC format.
    Regards.

  • I'm traveling to London for the summer, does anyone know a good power adapter/converter for my MacBook Pro?

I'm traveling to London for the summer, does anyone know a good power adapter/converter for my MacBook Pro? I know there's the Travel Adapter Kit but it's only for iPhones, iPods, iPad, etc.

    Apple World Travel Adapter Kit
The World Travel Adapter Kit includes the Apple USB Power Adapter, USB Cable and six interchangeable AC adapter plugs for use with iPod, iPhone, and iPad. The adapter plugs can also be used with Apple MagSafe Power Adapters, Portable Power Adapters, and AirPort Express, so you can plug your power adapter into most electrical outlets around the world.

  • Downloading then converting FLAC files to Mac compatible formats

    Hi all...
I've been downloading music from archive.org and I always go for the mp3 files for one simple reason: I just don't know how to deal with the FLAC files. I've read dozens of posts here and still don't get it... so I live with the compressed mp3's. When I do try to access the FLAC's they appear in my Safari browser window through the Quicktime plug in. But how do I get them to my hard drive.... and then convert to one of the Mac compatible formats. The latter part seems pretty straightforward with the proper converter. But I can't seem to get my hands on the FLAC's themselves.
So.... 2 questions: getting the FLAC's on board and .... a user friendly converter.
    Thanks!

What kind of file is it really?
It's a FLAC file. FLAC is its own format just like mp3 or AAC. I don't know the details of what is going on with iTunes. Fluke is making iTunes do something it wasn't designed to do so it isn't too surprising that iTunes may not be able to identify the files correctly. Likewise, when you tried to open a FLAC file in a browser window that browser application contains a list of applications to try to use to open files of various formats, but that doesn't mean it will always work. I could tell my browser to open Excel spreadsheet files in iTunes, but that doesn't mean iTunes will be able to do that. Since FLAC is an audio format the browser probably is set to toss all audio files at Quicktime in the hopes it can open them. I don't know if FLAC plugins exist for browsers. I use VLC to play individual FLAC files, or COG if I have a bunch (both free). You ccould set up your browser to fire up VLC if you download a FLAC file.

What kind of files, how many files, total amount of file space? There are many ways to move files from platform to platform, but until you tell us what the nature of the task is we can't give you a proper solution.

    (1) Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility installer file (msicuu2.exe) from the following Major Geeks page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
    (2) Doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file and follow the prompts to install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (If you're on a Windows Vista or Windows 7 system and you get a Code 800A0046 error message when doubleclicking the msicuu2.exe file, try instead right-clicking on the msicuu2.exe file and selecting "Run as administrator".)
    (3) In your Start menu click All Programs and then click Windows Install Clean Up. The Windows Installer CleanUp utility window appears, listing software that is currently installed on your computer.
    (4) In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
    (5) Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

  • Anyone know how I can get an audio file imported into my iTunes' podcast directory, rather than the music directory?

Anyone know how I can get an audio file imported into my iTunes' podcast directory, rather than the music directory?
I downloaded a series of podcasts recently.  They were imported into my "music" directory instead, making it more difficult for me to recall where I left off with the last podcast I listened to before having to stop it for whatever reason.  Thanks in advance for any help.

You can do it, though the result isn't ideal. Import your episode, then select it in the Music list and hit command-i to bring up the info panel:
However each episode you do this with will turn up as a 'podcast' with no name - and it doesn't seem possible to give it one - containing the one episode:

  • Playing FLAC files in iTunes with Windows 7 OS.....is it possible?

Are there any apps or hacks that anyone is aware of that will allow me to play FLAC files in iTunes?
I do not want to convert my FLAC files to another format to use - it would be too difficult to synchronise the tags and song ratings from the mp3 files (or whatever formats itunes supports) back to my ''archived' FLAC files.
Yet I really enjoy iTunes' playlist functions - no other players compare. I am hoping to have the best of both worlds: FLAC and iTunes cataloguing features. A search through the web and these forums makes me think it is not possible.
Any links or suggestions? Or do I need to choose between FLAC and ITunes for realsies?

Firstly, playing Flac in iTunes is an altogether different animal than playing them on your iOS device and is something you never asked about. For that you'll need to Google "Fluke FLAC" if you're still running Lion or older. If you're running a newer Mac OS I haven't yet heard of a solution for playing FLAC in iTunes and you'll have to resort to a third party app like Vox.
For most FLAC playing iOS apps you'll add your music files via the "file sharing" section at the bottom of your Apps tab in iTunes when your iPod touch is plugged in.
As for Flac Player specifically the high price coupled with some reported problems I heard when looking into it had me steering clear so I can't offer first hand reports on THAT program.
Since it sounds like you've been longing to play FLAC on your iPod touch for quite some time I was simply offering a bevvy of options to do just that I know of, including some free ones.
Hopefully someone will stumble across this thread and chime in with feedback about THAT app specifically for you.

  • Flac files to iTunes

A friend recently sent me a DVD with some audio files in Flac format.
iTunes won't import these files so I downloaded a programme called Switch.
Switch won't convert the Flac files to apple lossless files. What is the best alternative that won't lead to a massive loss of sound quality?
    17" Powerbook   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

I know a few people who have used this to convert flac files
    http://www.dbpoweramp.com/
Maybe it will work better for you then Switch did.

  • Convert gzip files into XML format

We have a requirement where we receive gzip files. These files are zipped file containing base64 binary format csv files. We would have to convert these files into XML format. Please let me know any of the following.
    1. Is there any Xpath query or XSL function (somthing similar like doTranslateFromNative() ) to convert from gzip files to XML format.
    2. If we need to unzip the zipfile outside fusion, then java code piece to unzip the gzip file. I guess after that we can use the usual doTranslateFromNative() function to translate to XML format, since after unzipping the gzip file, they are base64 binary formats.
    Thanks in advance,
    Toms

There is an option to do pre-processing and post processing of Files when using File adapter. You need to create a valve which will first do pre processing and send the output to FileAdapter.
You can get more information here:
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E23943_01/integration.1111/e10231/adptr_file.htm#CACDHGGG
under section: 4.2.14 Pre-Processing and Post-Processing of Files
Essentially you will use Java to unzip the file first and then the unzipped content will be passed to the adapter.

  • How to import Flac files into itunes

    Hi there,
the title say it all. How can I import Flac files into Itunes?
I have a lot of them. I click onto add to library select the flac file, click on open and nothing happen.
    Many thanks for your help.
    regards

Hello CESNET the best bet is to try http://blowintopieces.com/fluke/ I myself don't use Flac files but to any audiophile it's important to hear sound at it's best. Also WAV or AIFF & ALAC you will need to use http://tmkk.hp.infoseek.co.jp/xld/index_e.html to convert into ALAC.
P.S. their is also a simple FLAC player but can't remember it one more thing converting FLAC to WAV will not give you full TAGs. Best bet is to try just one file you've copied ether straight into iTunes or convert & see what's best for you.

  • Convert REM Files to MP3 Format?

I have downloaded several songs via the Amazon MP3 application on my Blackberry Curve 9300.  Little did I know that the songs were downloaded as rem files and not mp3 format?  I cannot upload the files to my desktop or laptop computers nor my Kindle.
Amazon said since I downloaded most of the songs over 3 months ago, they cannot move them over to my Cloud Player.  How do I convert rem file to mp3 format?  I do not want to have to purchase these songs again.

That process above won't work. Waste of time.
Your files were downloaded as MP3 files, but you have content encryption placed on your Media Card, and then the REM extension is added to the filename, because you have protected those files.
You must turn off the encryption first, and then you can copy the files and they will be usable.

  • Convert Video files in iTunes but no Audio after converting

Hy, do somebody know what is the matter if i want convert Video files in iTunes (8.01) but after converting the files don't have any audio but i can see the movie perfect in iTunes and on ATV ????

Your likely using muxed video such as mpeg1/mpeg2, which is capable of being played back in QT (with the QT mpeg2 playback component in the case of mpeg2 source video) but not able to be converted.
I could well guess which software you should use to undertake your conversions but it would be better if you could provide details of our source video so that we can suggest an appropriate workflow based on that information.
You can use the Inspector window in QT to see this information.
