I am burning money, not CD's.....keep getting this error message..slowed to 16x and checked other stuff, too...only recent problem, but baffling

Could be a number of things. First guess is bad media. And grabbing another off the cake box doesn't usually help since it might be a bad batch. Try a different blank that isn't from the same box, perhaps an entirely different brand.
Next choice is a dirty laser in the burner. You can buy drive cleaners which are basically CDs with little brushes on them to sweep stuff off the laser lens. Run one a few times and see if that works.
Also, have you checked to see if you can burn CDs outside of iTunes to verify if the issue is hardware/media related vs. a problem specifically with iTunes?

It's not specific enough to pinpoint what caused it—it could be anything from a bad optical medium (CD-R) to a dusty or dying laser diode. You have to isolate the problem—use a different CD-R brand, try a different speed, use a different burn engine (eg, Burn), etc. If it occurs once or twice, randomly, it's more likely to be a bad disc. If it occurs consistently, and at the same stage of the burn process, it's more likely to be a drive or software issue.

Your question is unclear, doesn't relate to Firefox, and there is no call for support on any Mozilla product. Thus it matches many troll questions we get on this forum. If you have an actual problem in Firefox we can solve please post a new thread with that problem.

I recently ran sfc /scannow. It completed without giving me any notifications other than a number of:
"Files that are required for Windows to run properly must be copied to the DLL cache."
I was prompted to insert my XP SP3 installation CD and click on 'retry'.
The scan lasted for around 40 minutes then closed.......at no stage was I advised that it had been unsuccessful.
When I restarted my computer directly afterwards, half way through booting a 'please wait' appeared, as if something was taking place.
I thought all had gone well until I looked in Event Viewer later. There are approximately 90 Windows File Protection entries there mostly with the following information:
The system file ........ could not be copied into the DLL cache. The specific error code is 0x800b0100 [No signature was present in the subject]. This file is necessary to maintain system stability.
Does anyone know what causes that error and what I need to do to resolve it please?

I have already tried to run the Microsoft Fix it from there for XP SP3, the os I have>>>>>>>"This troubleshooter does not apply to your system. We're sorry, but this troubleshooter is not compatible with your current system's configuration."
That was the only Microsoft information I could find on the specific error code I received: 0x800b0100......although the article applies to Microsoft Updates, I thought it might cover this too.
I have now run SFC three times, but errors still showed in Event Viewer.
I regularly run Chkdsk, last few times no errors.
I am actually having my computer checked for malware right now by specialist malware removers......all the malware scans I regularly run have given me the all clear for some time (McAfee Stinger, Hitman Pro, Malwarebytes - MBAM, TDSSKiller) but there has
been malware on my computer in the past, which was removed (not serious I was told).
In two of the scans the techs asked me to carry out there are
hundreds of dll cache entries under
Files/Folders - Created Within 30 Days on the date I run SFC.
I am waiting for this to be confirmed, but it looks to me as if SFC was actually successful to a large extent and the entries in Event Viewer are some failures (not all as I previously thought)?
I also have a serious problem in relation to Microsoft Updates (please see my other question).

Anyone knows what "assoc failed (reason 51)" means?

I have a MacBook Pro 17 late 2007 (MacBookPro 3,1). It has a Atheros wifi card (AR5418).
I have issues connecting to a WPA2 Personal 802.11n netowork. I manage to connect to other wifi networks and other computers connect to that network (even other macs) but not the MacBookPro 17. Doing a wifi debug I logged the following:

I googled but found nothing on that particular reason code. Is there any documentation on reson codes from Apple?

SOLVED the hard way: by changing the Wifi card.
I replaced the 3 antennas Atheros card with a spare BCM94321MC I removed years ago from a 1st generation AppleTV (to install a CrystalHD full HD video card).
Googling I found that BCM94321MC is the standard AirPort mounted on early 2008 MBP 17 (model A1261) which came out just after my mid-2007 MBP 17 (A1229). The doubt I initially had was that BCM94321MC has 2 antenna connectors as opposed to the 3 antennas my MBP has, but I found on a disassembly picture posted by iFixit that model A1261 mounts BCM94321MC the card using a 3 wire antenna simply leaving the gray wire disconnected.

As soon as I replaced the card every network issue disappeared.
Since BCM94321MC is used by a more recent MBP model I'm confident that future OSX updates for my MBP will support the WIFI card.
To recap: After introducing 3 antennas Atheros cards in A1212 and A1229 models, Apple switches back to the 2 anteanns BCM4321MC cards in A1261 leaving the same 3 wire antenna with 1 wire disconnected. Sounds like a quick and dirt fix to me, probably the 3 antennas design in combination with the Atheros card, the MBP or both was bogus.

I posted yesterday with a problem. I fixed that and downloaded the ipod software. I was trying to run the updater with the ipod shuffle plugged into the computer, and now it is saying it can't mount ipod. I also registerd the ipod, but that info does not come up?
Any response would be appreciated.

Anyone know what this overlay means?

I'm trying to diagnose a problem for a relative across the country. This overlay appears from time to time and evidently won't go away. Looks like some sort of levels indicator, similar to volume or brightness:

it means your keyboard brightness is at its lowest setting,
hit the F6 key (or fn + F6 if you F keys are active as traditional F keys)
a few more hits and you'll be seeing some 'sun rays' around the top and those dots at the bottom filling in

It just reboots the device and bolds the system fonts. No harm done. If you don't like it, undo the setting, it will reboot and back to as it was.

I've already right-clicked on the application, clicked "get info", and changed it so all people listed in the "Sharing & Permissions" section have the "read & write" privilage.
The error message is referring to your iTunes library, not your iTunes application.
You need to check and fix the permissions of the iTunes folder in your iTunes library. This is by default located in your "Music" folder.
Select the folder Music > iTunes in the Finder, right click on it or Ctrl Click and click "Get Info". At the bottom of the contextual window thatwill pop up, disclose the Sharing and Permissions brick, change your status from Read only to Read & Write. You may need to click the padlock icon to make changes.

i think the CD was bad. i took the machine to the Apple store and they said the Optical Drive was OK. so it must be the CD's i'm using... i use Verbatim type. let me know.

'Mediium write error' means it failed to write to the disc - some makes work better than others and you may just have hit a single bad disc or maybe your burner doesn't like the make of disc. I've always had good results with TDK.

I had been getting this all morning and checked other messages from the community. THe one which worked was trying a different brand of disc.
I had been using Verbatim which had copied the music fine off the Real Player on my PC at school, but wouldn't work with I Tunes. Tried a Staples and an Office Depot CD-R , both of which did the job.
