this is the idle state of the new creative cloud connection desktop app for mac using quite a few cycles for an idling program anyone know how to cut this back? thanks!
As soon as you open the Creative Cloud application it will check for updates. You are correct though that 1.0.0.183 is the current version available at the moment. Help me please, I need to know why imovie videos use so much memory
There have been a lot of firsts for me this year. First time owning a laptop, first time owning a mac, and first time uploading videos to youtube. I got my macbook in april and it's my pride and joy. However, I'm having a huge problem with it.
I don't understand why the videos I make on imovie use up so much memory!! Now that I have an hd video camera it's even worse. First of all, I can't import my videos because there isn't enough space. Second of all, the videos I did manage to import were about 30-40 minutes total and are using up about 22GB! I thought my events, (which usually range from 20-50 minutes) were bad enough as they can be 1-2GB
Here is my question:
Why do the videos take up so much space and can I change that?

They contain lots of data. You can reduce the resolution, frame rate, or length on movies to reduce their final size, but that won't help you much at import or while you are working with them. -
I am trying to use the iCloud on my laptop and I have downloaded the dashboard for this but when I enter my Apple ID it tells me it is an apple id but not for the cloud. What or where do I go to get that ID?
As was clearly explained on that download page for iCloud control panel, while you can use an iCloud account on a Windows machine, you cannot create an account from one.
You need an Apple device to create an iCloud account. Afterwards, you can use that account in Windows, but to get Apple's free iCloud service, you have to create the account initially from an Apple device.

What is powerd and why is it using so much cpu
When I check the activity monitor, it is almost pegged out. Because of this other things run slowly. So, what is "powerd" and why is it all of a sudden using so CPU?
It is something related to power management, but it shouldn't be running away like that.
Select it in Activity Monitor and then Quit it using the "X in octagon" button. You should only need Quit, but try force quit if needed.
It will restart, but hopefully it won't start running away. If it does, there is likely something else causing it to do that. -
Why iTunes 11 using so much CPU?

What gives? It's using 10+ cores while idle? Furthermore, why doesn't my CPU meter show reflect this usage? It shows the normal 1% I usually am at when idling.
What kind of black magic is at work here?Itunes is currently downloading/uploading 3.5mb; however, I don't see what it is downloading/uploading! I am downloading wireshark now to see if it is infact downloading/uploading stuff.

Could someone explain what mds is doing if my Mac has been indexed (don't see activity in Spotlight menu bar icon) & I haven't recently added a lot of files?
I noticed my Mac was slowing down for a while so I looked in Activity Monitor & it says mds is running at 60% CPU. Isn't this something to do with Spotlight indexing?If you recently upgraded the OS or installed an application that includes a metadata parser for spotlight (such software generally comes in the form of a package instead of a single icon), it will force spotlight to reindex. Also, restoring from a backup does the same thing.
Also, if you used mdutil to disable spotlight indexing on the volume and then reenable it, it will force a reindexing. -
Why Fifefox 9 using so much cpu? in my case amd amd athlon x2 255 3.11 gh using it 60%?

its been a couple days now since my macbooks been playing up someone please help me. ive got firefox, google chrome etc none of them are loading facebook every other websites works fine, facebook takes 5 minutes to load and it goes to a mobile website without loading anyone know why? im using a macbook pro 2011 with ios 10.6.8
Make sure your Java and Flash are up to date from http://www.java.com/ and http://www.adobe.com/
Clear your cookies for Facebook as long as you remember the password for it.
Try a different web browser * if none of the above work. -
I checked the Activity Monitor while using QuickTime 7.1.2 and it said initially it was using 98% of CPU with choppy video then later dropped to 60% with video o.k. The video was from my moms Kodak Easy Share camera and the video was located in iPhoto since the camera takes the video and puts it on a 1 gigabyte flash card. Why would QuickTime use so much CPU power for such a small video?
I try to play it from my hard drive and it is within iPhoto, iPhoto launches quicktime player and when I look at Activity Monitor it says it is useing 98% for about five seconds and then drops to 60%, the video never had problems before I installed 2 gigabytes of RAM but that couldn't be the problem. My applications seem to be using more memory now. I used to have 512 megabytes of RAM. The video is MPEG-4 Video, u-Law 2:1 and the extension is .MOV

When I bootup the icon for Elements shows up in orange. It changes to green only when I've gone to Finder and clicked on Elelments under the Devices list. This is a recent development. The icon used to be green upon bootup. Does anyone know why ?

I'm not affiliated w/ the developer, just a happy user that gave up fighting the apple podcast app a while ago. I used to have a bunch of smart playlists in itunes for my podcasts, and come home every day and pathologically synced my phone as soon as I walked in the door, and again before I walked out the door in the morning.
Since my wife was doing this too, we were fighting over who's turn it was to sync their phone.
Since I've switched to Downcast, I no longer worry about syncing my phone to itunes at all. I can go weeks between syncs.
Setup a "playlist" in downcast (ex., "Commute") and add podcasts to that playlist. Add another playlist ("walk" or "workout") and add different podcasts to that one.
Set podcast priorities on a per-feed basis (ex., high priority for some daily news feeds, medium priority for some favorite podcasts, lower priority for other stuff). Downcast will play the things in the priority you specify, and within that priority, it will play in date order (oldest to newest).
Allegedly, it will also sync your play status to other devices, although that is not a feature I currently use and can't vouch for. It uses apple's iCloud APIs, so to some extent may be limited by what Apple's APIs can do. -
My ipod is using software iOS 5.0.1 but it wont be recognised by itunes running in Snow Leopard – does anyone know why?

Hi i have avi files saved in iphoto that i used to be able to play through quicktime. However in the last few weeks i cannot play many of these files. I can see the videos and click on them but nothing happens (i have version 7.6.9 of quicktime). Does anyone know why this has happened and what i can do about this?

As previously stated, AVI is a file container. It is somewhat old and its originator, Microsoft, dropped official support of it over a decade ago. However, it remains popular with PC users since almost any valid audio and/or video compression format can be stuffed to the file which synchronizes the content by interleaving the individual audio and video frames. The compression format is the specific manner in which the audio and video data are encoded as it is placed in the AVI container. You can find the compression format by inspecting the file in the Finder "Info" window, or in the "Inspector" window of the QT player (or other media player) if the file can be opened.
For instance, one popular compression combination would be to place DivX encoded video and MP3 audio in an AVI file container. However, neither DivX nor MP3 is natively supported by the QT player. (Although iTunes will natively support the MP3 audio.) Therefore, people who wish to play such files in the QT 7 Player would normally install either the DivX component or Perian but not both. Either installation will independently play such files in the QT Player, but if both are installed, the file will usually stop working since these two codecs can create a playback conflict.
However, the AVI container could just as easily contain DV along with DV audio. In this case, the file should play correctly in QT since this compression format is natively supported by the basic component configuration that comes in every current OS installation. Therefore, if such files suddenly stopped playing, this could be an indication that a component has been moved or deleted or that your system or QT embedded structure has become corrupted. -
Does anyone know why since upgrading to ML notes are not visible in Time Machine. They used to be part of mail and could be recovered from Time machine but since ML I don't seem to be able to access notes in Time Machine. Any help would be useful.

I use Keynote on iPad2. Video out via composite AV cable, audio out through earphone socket. If I plug into the earphone socket first, then plug in the AV cable - no sound. AV first, then earphone - sound. Anyone know why?
My daughter has had her Razr for about 9 months now. About two weeks ago she picked up her phone in the morning on her way to school when she noticed two cracks, both starting at the camera lens. One goes completely to the bottom and the other goes sharply to the side. She has never dropped it and me and my husband went over it with a fine tooth comb. We looked under a magnifying glass and could no find any reason for the glass to crack. Not one ding, scratch or bang. Our daughter really takes good care of her stuff, but we still wanted to make sure before we sent it in for repairs. Well we did and we got a reply from Motorola with a picture of the cracks saying this was customer abuse and that it is not covered under warranty. Even though they did not find any physical damage to back it up. Well I e-mailed them back and told them I did a little research and found pages of people having the same problems. Well I did not hear from them until I received a notice from Fed Ex that they were sending the phone back. NOT FIXED!!! I went to look up why and guess what there is no case open any more for the phone. It has been wiped clean. I put in the RMA # it comes back not found, I put in the ID #, the SN# and all comes back not found. Yet a day earlier all the info was there. I know there is a lot more people like me and all of you, but they just don't want to be bothered so they pay to have it fix, just to have it do it again. Unless they have found the problem and only fixing it on a customer pay only set up. I am furious and will not be recommending this phone to anyone. And to think I was considering this phone for my next up grade! NOT!!!!

My ipod nano this morning has started to tell me the accessory (lightening to 30-pin adaptor) I use for playing it through my docking station is not supported. It worked fine up until last night. Does anyone know why this might be?
Clean any debris from the adapter, docking station connector and the connector on the Nano.
