Anyone notice interlaced type scanlines on the touch display?

One thing I noticed is that the screens on the touches seem to have scan lines or interlaced. If you turn the brightness up and look at a grey or blue background/pic and move the device around a little bit or scroll your eyes up and down the screen you will see scan lines. I have noticed this on all the ipod touches and only on 1 iphone which is one of my coworkers. I have noticed this on many lcd devices but it seems very pronounced on the touch and I find it irritating.
I don't think most people will notice this but my eyes are pretty sensitive and I can see it at any brightness level.
This is the same thing when looking at the image in progressive scan on an hdtv vs looking at the image on a standard tv.

I haven't noticed it - but I also have my brightness set to the default setting in the middle - looks better that way IMO.

My iPad won't let me sign into my Apple ID when I try and download an app it asks for my id and password and when i type it in the iPad displays a message saying cannot connect to iTunes Store. However when i do this on my phone it works perfectly.

Remember, any purchased item from the itunes store is forever associated with the Apple ID used to buy it. So when you get prompted for an ID/password and it doesn't accept it, then you are using the wrong ID.
Go to Settings>iTunes and App Stores, be sure it's logged into the ID you have set on the iphone (since that one seems to be connecting with the right ID). If you've done this, then you might wait a bit to see if the "cannot connect to .. store" message has to do with internet connections.

Anyone notice new subtitle options on the firmware upgrade?

It's there for MP4. and mkv, and supports multiple subtitle tracks. Works through HDMI out, although the subtitle text falls at the very bottom of the screen and can be cut off by overscan.
Anyway - very cool addition I didn't notice until a few days ago. Only thing left on my wish list list is multi-channel AC3.

Now my question is : how much lag is too much?
scenerio:
DroidX (original) in GPU mode.
test app is only:
2 MovieClips as buttons
TOUCH_BEGIN Listener
Mr Doobs stats class for FPS:
stage.framerate set to 60
FPS maxs out around 45 fps (as it always has in GPU mode on this device)
as you press the buttons quickly, the fps drops to 38-40 ... stop pressing = back to 45 fps
(the event handler has no code in it, its purly the touch event causing the lag).
Back in earlier builds, there were reports of touch event lag... I never saw it on my device, so this seems to be new to Air3, or perhaps one of the later 2.7 runtime updates.
I know 2.6 did not, and i think the first release of 2.7 did not have this issue.
I dont know, it is expected to have NO lag from a touch right?

Has anyone noticed a frozen clock on the taskbar?

The time display on the task bar is not updated while the clock pop up (by moving mouse over) is correct.

As the pic indicates, the correct time is 22:55:48.

This issue is still occurring for me (on multiple computers). Has anybody found a permanent solution?
The entire taskbar freezes (Clock, Applications, etc.). If I open the metro UI it will update, but only once (any changes after that are not seen). If I move the taskbar to another position and back it seems to fix the issue temporarily. No need to restart
explorer for me.
I was going to update to 8.1, since my computer keeps telling me to go to the store and do so, but 8.1 is not in the store for Volume License users!!! Why does Microsoft remove the 8.1 update from the store for VL users, but does not remove the constant
reminders to go to the store and update? Anyway, does anybody know if this issue is present in 8.1 as well??

Anyone notice what Apple says is the correct operating temp?

Their spec site says the machine can get as hot as 90 degrees (F). However, my temp gauge routinely gets to 108 degrees (F) - and I know many others go even higher. Isn't that a reason for Apple to fix our machines right there? Either that... or change their friggin' specs!

Steven, you misinterpreted the specification.
Operating temperature range 50-95 F refers to the ambient temperature in which you use the computer.
What that means is that the computer is designed to operate in a controlled environment. If your room temperature exceeds 95 F the cooling system will have difficulty keeping the computer's components cool enough to meet their design lifetime. As far as I'm concerned, I'm designed for a comfortable ambient temperature range between the high-60s to low 70s F in my study, and within that range I'll be happy and so will the MBP!
There are people who will use MBPs in the desert heat of Iraq or in sub-freezing temperatures and at high altitude on the slopes of Mount Everest. Apple is telling users that those computers probably won't last as long as if they were operated within the intended environmental specifications. Photojournalists often work in hostile environments and so do their Apple notebooks.
My week 12 MBP doesn't have a heat problem. The areas that I need to touch when I'm using it are the keyboard, the trackpad and the rest areas to the left and right of the trackpad. If they stay comfortable to use in my most demanding applications, I don't have a heat problem. (I don't care if the metal strip behind the function keys gets very warm, as I don't need to touch it to use the computer.)
I use a KoolSink tilted aluminum stand when I'm using the computer, whether on my desk or in my lap. That helps cool the computer and keep me comfortable.
My CPU operating temperatures compare to many of those that have had the "grease fix" and are better than some, but I've not done the "grease fix" and don't plan to do that.
My attitude toward heat works. The MBP is the fastest, quietest and most stable notebook computer I've ever owned and it churns through the work I toss at it without missing a beat. It's in the same performance class as my PowerMac dual core 2.3 GHz but uses much less energy to do the same tasks.

Anyone recommend a good skin for the touch?

I am going to try and pic up 1 at macworld today. I am looking for something that works well and does not add to much bulk to the device.

I am very pleased with the ClearTouch Crystal skin. It was easy to apply, the bubbles were simple to eliminate and it can be washed and reapplied.

How do you calibrate the touch display on an HP B210a?

Well, I screwed up. I was messing around in the service menu (stupid me). I hit calibrate touch screen thinking it would be beneficial, but it ended up with me not knowing what I was doing, and now I cannot get the printer to respond to touch. So, how do I calibrate it so it works if I can't get it calibration? Please DONT say send it to HP, I really need to know how to do this on my own.

Bacteria sized type and the 23" display

I don't know how many of you have ever read Dave Barry's book 'Dave Barry Turns 50', but if you ever have you'll know that he devotes a chapter to the phenomenon of bacteria sized type which appears to readers after age 50.
That's the one complaint I have with my new Apple 23" Cinema display. Most areas of Safari, Mail and other apps have controls where most of the type can be made larger (and readable)... but NOT ALL!
For instance in Safari, the type on the bookmarks page cannot be increased in size. In Mail, the messages can be made larger, but not the listing of Mailbox type.
What would be ideal would be some kind of universal type enlarging command that applies to everything. I think Windows XP actually works better in this regard.
Are there any additional video drivers that can be downloaded to help with a resolution size that would make reading bacteria sized type easier on the Cinema Display?
Is there any universal command to OSX 10.3.4 that can help make the type larger throughout the whole system?

Thanks... I'm still running Panther though. And since I'm a professional artist, I really don't need a handicapped voice directing my computer actions... just looking for a way to make type larger and easier to read, since the 23" display reduces so many features to a really tiny size.
For instance the font size increase in Safari works great... but it's a pain to have to click it 3 times for every new web site one visits. Same thing with Mail. The font increase works great, but you have to do it every time you open a new email.
It's even worse in Adobe Creative Suite, where so many of the program fonts and icon buttons are now so very very tiny.
I'd just have thought that there'd be some more choices in the screen resolution from Apple.
Are there any 3rd party programs that allow the Cinema display dimension with more resoution choices?

I have already tried most of these troubleshooting steps but no go....
Also, when you tap or use only the right half of the screen, the touch display is inconsistent and makes a wierd sound [ like a hollow tub or something ] and it's not a cosmetic issue...
----Apple store / Authorized Service Center is still working on this ongoing issue with no results and still not confirming for the iphone replacement...Thnx..

How do I disable gestures for a Planar touch display?

I have tried a few different things with no success. The problem is that we have a Planar touch display showing a chrome browser in Presentation mode, and users are able to "break out" of the app using various gestures. We'd like to be able to disable all gestures except for tap to click.
We have tried:
1) Pairing a trackpad via bluetooth and disabling the gestures through the system preferences. (while the trackpad functionality was effected, the touch display was still the same)
2) using terminal, we tried to disable the drivers with commands such as
defaults write com.apple.driver.AppleBluetoothMultitouch.trackpad TrackpadRightClick -bool true
but this also had no change. This is also for bluetooth, and the display is set up through USB.
Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Anyone finding it more difficult to type words on the iPhone4 vs iphone3?

We've recently migrate about ten folks from the iPhone3 to the iPhone4.
Getting feedback that it is more difficult to accurately type words on the iPhone4 than what was experienced on the iPhone3. Some of the direct comments are listed below. Is anyone seeing the same issues?
"It's way harder to type correctly on this new phone? I'm having a terrible time getting words spelled right. I have to slow way down to even come close."
"Truthfully, I type three word and look at my screen and it's three wrong words with no spaces between them. If i slow down, stare at the screen and type with deliberately, like when I first got an iphone a couple years ago, I can get it write, mostly. If I type anywhere near normal, like I did on my last phone, it's just a jumble of letters."

Yes, and I think I know what the problem is. The iPhone 4's touch screen is more sensitive than the previous models. The 3Gs' touch detection was spot-on IMHO. The i4 is more sensitive and to confirm this yourself just slowly get closer and closer to screen over button and you will notice that it will register a click and/or touch before your finger makes contact. I am not 100% positive but this could be adding to the Proximity Sensor woes as well. Maybe not causing it but definitely making it worse. I hope Apple can turn down/tune the capacitance touch screen a bit along with the prox-sensor fix in next release.

Anyone notice scanlines when watching videos?

I notice on my new ipod video that if you look carfully or move your eyes up and down you can see scanlines in the video, photos etc. Anyone else notice this.

Try:
- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- Try on another computer
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.
