Anyone noticing their Enter key less sensitive to presses?

Just got my Macbook about a week ago, absolutely fantastic machine. I've noticed though that sometimes when I press the enter key, the Macbook doesn't always recognize it. I've found I sometimes have to concentrate on pressing the Enter key a bit firmer than I have to on the other keys. It isn't something terribly significant, I don't need to pound or crush it but those random moments that the enter key doesn't respond can be a bit annoying at times.
I'm not entirely certain, but it seems that maybe it is more responsive towards the right of the key than the left? I assume the actual button itself under the key is more in that direction so perhaps that would be why.

I hate to be the barer of bad news but this a defect. I've already dealt with this issue in the past with the plastic MB's. I just brought it into the Apple Store and got the whole keyboard replaced, no problem. My issue was with the i key and as you can see I've used it at least a dozen times now so you can imagine my frustration.

    If you are still under warranty and/or have AppleCare, call them.  Let them deal w/it.  Out of warranty, your keyboard may need cleaning.  Use a vacuum hose or a can of compressed air to get the dirt out from under the keys.  For instructions to remove the keys if it comes to that check out the following websites:

    If you do not want to DIY, take your MBP to your local AS or an AASP.

    Try a Restart.
    Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red "slide to power off" slider appears, and then slide the slider. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.
     Resetting your settings
    You can also try resetting all settings. Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings. You will have to enter all of your device settings again.... All of the settings in the settings app will have to be re-entered. You won't lose any data, but it takes time to enter all of the settings again.
    Resetting your device
    Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears. Apple recommends this only if you are unable to restart it.
    Or if this doesn't work and nobody else on the blog doesn't have a better idea you can contact Apple.

  • Anyone noticed their 24" screen brightness lowered recently?!

    I used to have my brightness (on my 24") set down a few bars because it was so bright on full...
    Since the apparent release of a new graphics driver, I have had to set my brightness to full.
    Surely Apple could have made the maximum higher and the lowest lower and then split the divisions so that it goes from one gradient to the other to give the users a choice?!

    It was an Apple update - 1.1 - that was installed automatically.

  • Anyone notice their MBP really hot when taking it out of a bag?

    Hey everyone,
    I have had my Macbook Pro for about 8 months now and just today I took it out of my laptop bag and found it to be very HOT. It's like it came out of it's own sleep and ran inside my bag. Since there was no airflow it got very hot. How do I know if this caused damage to my laptop? I am very concerned about it. Any information would be helpful.
    Thanks,
    -David

    Hi David,
    Waking from sleep unintentionally is something that can happen, but shouldn't happen. Often, Bluetooth settings can be set (possibly as default) to allow the machine to be woken from sleep by a Bluetooth device. If you go to your System Preferences, and click the Keyboard and Mouse pane, and then click "Bluetooth" then you can uncheck the box that says "Allow Bluetooth devices to wake this computer". This should stop this from occurring in the future.
    If you do use Bluetooth devices, then you will have to either wake the computer manually (by opening it) or be more careful with the computer when it is sleeping in a case. Even passing Bluetooth devices in other people's bags can possibly wake up the computer when that checkbox is checked.
    I wouldn't worry about the heat that the computer was exposed to this one time. The machine itself is designed to shut itself off at temperatures that are dangerous to it. Therefore, you should never have any heat-related damage.
    In terms of sleeping the machine when carrying it in a bag: Continue doing it, but with this checkbox unselected. There is nothing wrong with carrying the machine while it is asleep! I do it all the time and have never had any problems!

  • Is the iPad Air screen less sensitive to touch?

    I just got an iPad Air, and notice that it's less sensitive to touch (as compared to my iPad 2 and iPhone 5, both running iOS 7).
    I am used to touching the screen ever, ever so gently (just brushing against it with my fingertip), in order to scroll pages etc. This no-longer works with the iPad Air. I need to have more of my finger in contact with the screen in order for it to register a touch.
    At first I thought it was because of the protective film that they put on when I bought the iPad, but I asked them to remove it, and it was still the same. (Also, I have a screen protector on my iPhone, and it's no less sensitive to touch as a result.)
    I went back to the store and tried another iPad Air, and it was exactly the same as my one: less sensitive. The store employees concurred: it's a significant difference.
    Do they have a bad batch at this store, or is the iPad Air screen just "different"?

    I wanted to buy an ipad air to replace my ipad 2 but the one I wanted was (luckily) sold out.
    Yesterday I tested the air from a collegue and I noticed the screen was SUBSTANTIALLY less sensitive than the screen of my ipad 2 when using my stylus.
    I use Stylus R US especially for I annotate and with the air this did not work well at all... Half of the time there was no contact registered so underying certain parts of the text was a disaster...
    Just working with the finger all whent OK... Just fear that another app I use a lot (notes +) will have same problem.
    On the Ipad 4 also retina all goes *** smooth as on my ipad 2...
    Is this a fault of a specific ipad air series? Or is this normal?? If it is I think this is truelly a huge flaw and I cannot see how not manny people using the ipad for notetaking etc did not notice this...

  • Action for ENTER KEY is not working in alv grid output (Classical)

    Hi Experts,
      I have searched SDN around 8 hours and could not get any help on my below issue.
      I am developing ALV report using function module (Classical ALV). ALV output has 4 input enable fields, if user enters data in any of those fields and clicks on enter button from key pad..the remaining fields needs to be filled automatically.
      I am facing the issue with enter key, even if i press enter key in the output there is no action and hence no user command triggered. May be i am using wrong funcion code in wrong way.
      Could any one tell me what function code can we assign for ENTER action in PF-STATUS?

    Has anyone noticed that their iPhone 5 has a yellow tinged display and the colours look too intense? Just does not look right.

    Correction - I HAVE reported the fault to Apple and to my network provider who have informed me that they have received numerous complaints from their customers and are sending out replacements to them and to me. • Anyone notice a factory protective overlay on their 3G screen

    Hi
    I was using my iPhone 3G today and noticed something I have not noticed before.
    Has anyone noticed that there seems to be some short of protective shield on the touch screen? I noticed this because when i looked at the speaker area and the home button area I can clearly see that some sort of film is stuck on top of the glass.
    Has anyone else noticed this? What is this film for? Can I remove it?
    Thanks

    As I stated, there's not one pre-installed on new iPhones. If you purchased your phone used, one may be on there. Also, if you received a refurb phone in exchange for a defective one, there may be a protector on there (they are supposed to replace the case, not sure if they replace the glass; I know that I have returned iPhones with the protective film I installed left in place).
    If there is one on there, it's safe to remove it if you want. You can remove the films by applying a piece of transparent tape (e.g. Scotch® tape) and lifting from the corner.

  • Prevent Enter key from proceeding movie

    I am using this code to get the user to enter the answer 16
    in an input text field. It works but if the user hits the enterkey
    after they've gotten the question right, the playhead starts and
    moves to incorrect. This is not happening only in the testing
    environment, the published file continues when Enter is pressed.
    Can anyone help?
    keyListener = new Object();
    keyListener.onKeyUp = function() {
    if (input_txt2.text == "16" and Key.getCode() == 13) {
    //13 is key code for 'Enter'//
    gotoAndPlay("1_3_13a");
    _root.answer1 = "Correct!";
    } else if (input_txt2.text != "16" and Key.getCode() == 13)
    //13 is key code for 'Enter'//
    _root.answer1 = "Incorrect.";
    gotoAndPlay("1_3_13b");
    Key.addListener(keyListener);

    I'm not following what "…activated when the enter key
    is pressed even after the event has occurred." means. You mean that
    even after this first entry you press enter and the value of
    input_txt2.text != "16" so it is jumping to 1_3_13B?
    I think I know what you mean, maybe. Notice how you are
    setting up a listener? Well it keeps listening, it isn't a one time
    deal. It listens for a keyUp until you tell it to stop. So just
    because it works once why would you expect it to stop working? :)
    What you need to do is either inside your conditionals or
    perhaps just inside the onKeyUp function put a
    Key.removeListener(keyListener); to tell it to stop listening. If
    you are doing some kind of remediation at 1_3_13b and then want
    them to have another try, perhaps you will want to leave the
    listener or you might want to remove it and then add it back. I
    don't know the exact structure of what you are doing, but I hope
    this points you in the correct direction.

  • Enter key instead of TAB key

    Hi folks,
    I'd like to make the ENTER key behave the same way as the TAB key in
    the system I'm developing. I thought I would be able to do it by setting
    the ENTER as a function key (using Window.SetAsFunctionKey), and
    then after detecting an ENTER key press, request focus on the current
    fieldwidget's 'NextTabField'. However, this attribute defaults to NIL unless
    you override the default TAB sequence. And I don't really fancy setting
    the Next and Prev TabField for every onscreen field.
    Anyone done this before using a simpler method?
    By the way, I don't really want to get into a long thread about whether it is
    good practice to bypass Windows (TM) standards or not. We require
    fast data entry, and keyboard entry is essential for that.

    Duncan,
    The application we are building will replace legacy application and had similar
    requirements to accommodate the current users. We solved this problem by creating a
    special frame, appropriately named as the "Terminal Frame". It is distributed as
    part of the Scaffolds framework.
    The Terminal frame implements ENTER instead of TAB key. As you know the tabbing
    order in a terminal frame (top to bottom, left to right) is different than windows
    tabbing order (left to right, top to bottom). The Terminal frame solves the tabbing
    problem by constructing a "field traverse list" which includes all the fields in a
    window including nested views ordered according to their X,Y co-ordinates. It is a
    recursive method works on the same lines as described by Sakharov, Nickolay in
    earlier mail. The method also sets the NextTabField, PrevTabField references for
    each field in the traverse list.
    This framework is working very well for us. In a terminal frame world, you still
    have some user training issues as some of the fields (OutlineField, DropList,
    ArrayField, CheckBoxe etc.) behave differently for ENTER and TAB keys. But these
    are minimal compared to a complete change in style.
    Hope this is helpful.
    Good Luck,
    Shirish

    did slow them down, which it won't, they would never lose enough time to be
    worth the work that it would take to implement.Jeanne,
    Thanks for your reply (even though it doesn't help me!).
    Don't get me wrong, I'm not advocating we abandon the TAB key
    functionality in favour of the ENTER key. I just want to ADD the ENTER
    key as a navigational aid for our 'legacy' users (and we have many). If it
    is done right, there should be no need to tell the user about it. Their
    transition to the new product would be virtually painless.
    Since I posted my original question I've realised that the cost of
    implementation is actually fairly low. And this is why. I have just
    discovered that the default tab order defined by Forte (left to right, top to
    bottom) is essentially useless for most of the windows we will be creating.
    Therefore, we will need to override it by explicitly setting the
    "NextTabField" and "PrevTabField" attributes of our input fields in virtually
    every window. As I am writing the framework for our new product, I will
    have to implement the facility to do this in the framework itself. And if we
    have our tab order defined, then adding the ENTER key functionality is
    minimal extra effort (see my original post). In fact, if I implement it in my
    "CoreWindow" (the root of my windows framework inheritence tree), then
    no-one will ever have to deal with it again.
    The TAB key is not even much of a windows data-entry standard. Many
    of our customers have defined secondary systems using Microsoft
    Access, and it uses the ENTER key (along with the TAB key) to move
    from field to field. Will these customers not complain that they cannot
    use the ENTER key to move between fields if we don't implement it?
    As we do not have the resources to completely rewrite our existing
    COBOL system (over 2 million lines of code) in one go. We will be rolling
    out the new system module by module. This means that a lot of our users
    will be switching between the new windows interface and the text-based
    unix telnet sessions. When I switch back and forth between windows
    editors and 'vi' on the unix host, I experience first-hand how mixed
    navigational facilities can hamper productivity!
    Anyway, I was just hoping there might be a little setting somewhere in
    Forte to switch this on, but as no-one has pointed it out, it seems unlikely.
    Thanks again for your input, lively discussion is always welcome.
