Anyone out there using InCopy/InDesign with Russian language editions?

Just trying to get a feel for whether this all works the same in other languages? Anyone with experience in such workflows?

Theoretically, it's all the same application. You can even see for yourself how it looks -- http://indesignsecrets.com/change-indesigns-ui-language-with-free-app.php shows how to switch the UI language for the Mac. (I don't know if there is a similar procedure for Windows, though.)
There are a few tiny differences over the different localized versions, but they mainly have to do with making everything fit into the dialogs. As far as the workflow concerns, there ought to be no difference at all.

We produce several reports in four languages, and most in English and Russian. Does anyone have any experience of multilingual workflows? Any font issues? Mac/PC compatibility?

Right. I saw this thread and I thought I did right, but perhaps not.
The conclusion as I understood it was to give filenames of more than 26 characters with all lowercase ASCII characters. I did this, so I thought I got past this problem. Perhaps not.
Do you mean in the Finder to go through and manually type in a file name and then relink in INDD? (not sure how I would relink if I don't know what file goes with what story). It sounds like a lot of work, but worth it if it saves me days of work.
BTW the software is ME version, but the files are not right to left language files. They are, however, German, French Italian and Spanish (and English) User Manuals, so AM's non-ascii suspicion is reasonable.

Anyone out there using Jet Exclusive?

I'm using JDK1.3.1_02, so the installer seems like doesn't accept my jdk version. Is there anyway to let me use this jet compiler without changing my jdk version?
Or other recommended native code compiler? I know there's some out there but I wouldn' want to spend my time downloading all and try it out, so might be grateful if anyone out there share their experiences using the compilers.

Anyone out there using xdmx?

I have been trying to get it working for a little while now, and so far all I've got is all of my screens blacking out and giving me the x shaped cursor. It feels like the cursor is going over to the client machines monitor, but I can't actually see it. Nothing responds after this - I had to hard reboot to recover from it.
I installed xorg-server-xdmx from the repos and was just following the examples on the manpage. I understand at one point Xorg needed to be compiled with the --enable-dmx flag, but when I copied it over from the abs, that flag is already in the PKGBUILD so I'm assuming dmx is enabled by default in Xorg now?
There's very, very little documentation on this that isn't really old -tbh I'm starting to wonder if anyone has used it in the last few years at all
Anyway, if anyone is using this, please let me know how you have it set up so I have something to go off of other than 5 year old ubuntu forum threads

After some research and reading about Xservers, i solved some of my Problems. Slim passes by default the `-nolisten tcp`-Argument to the Xserver, that's why i don't get any Connection to a display, cause no Xserver listening on tcp. Solved. So far.
To run the Xdmx on my Control i'm using a little Script thats looks like this:

startx `which slim` -- /usr/bin/Xdmx :1 -display :0 -display 192.168.78.208:0 -ignorebadfontpaths +xinerama
Im running it on Runlevel 5 when logged in into my Xfce4-Session. The Output can be found here.
Short Explanation: The first 3 Lines are caused by disabling the ipv6 alias in modprobe. The last 3 Lines comes from the `kill -9` (i found no other way to shutdown Xdmx :x ). My Desktopscreen is 1920*1080, Laptop 1376*768 on ip 192.168.78.208, both with 24bit depth. But im not sure why Xdmx output the hole Color-thing there. Any Problem with it?
To me, the Xdmx seems to run without errors. But how to "use" it.
I still see the one with Xfce4 and cant move my mouse over the edges of my monitor to the other Screen. Running Wireshark in background i can see that they communicate, but not very much, about 4-6 packages per minute.
Any Suggestions?

EDIT: i just recognized that it doesn't matter what Displaynumber i give for my Laptop, even with a :5 he dont give me any error. So it seems these Color-things are an error preventing Xdmx from working.

I am using something similar to Air Stash. In fact, probably most modern Android phone can do this as well with ease. So far, I have a HTML media server running, FTP and WebDAV serving all working on my eLocity A7 Android tablet running Froyo. There are a number of advantages though doing this.
First, the tablet has a super fast Tegra 2 Dual Core processor running, so my FTP server running on the eLocity serves files really really quick, like up 2000Kb/s using ezSharePro running on both my iPhone and iPad. When I saw the Air Stash working a while back, it was lagging a bit compared to my tablet. And yes just like Air Stash, you can load up any movies (must be in H.264 format though cause that's the only format iOS devices can play) and music from your SD cards, browse PDF, Word docs using Good Reader (it supports WebDAV and FTP serving natively) and a WebDAV server so you can save your files from Pages, Numbers and Keynote! Best of all, since the files saved are on the SD card, you can instantly share it with your coworkers or clients without having to sync using iTunes or email it.
Part of the reason I skipped Air Stash (was close to buying it) was because it retailed $99 (was $89 black friday special), but I can get an eLocity A7 for $299. The A7 can browse flash pages with ease, watch Hulu like your desktop. I figured for another $200, I get Air Stash PLUS a flash capable tablet.
My setup also allows serving of Compact Flash cards or other special media cards since I have a multi-format card reader which can be attached to the eLocity.
However, Air Stash by itself is a very useful device especially with its built-in WIFI AP (Access Point). I played with one and now I have one better! The latest firmware for the Air Stash will support WebDAV.

I think that what they meant was support for Russian Language "graphic interface" - not Cyrillic text insertion support...
I too am in the same boat as I would much appreciate the inclusion of some Unicode Fonts so that I can include Japanese characters - - you likely need the same thing but instead need them to include some Cyrillic Alphabet fonts...
If we can get Adobe to add those font families - even basic ones - we could accomplish our goals - but for now we are stuck...

Anyone out there using mediacom SMTP?

I had this working several weeks ago, but then had to completely wipe the phone clean due to an iTunes melt down. I know I have all of my settings entered correctly and Mediacom tech support has given me the outgoing server number (supposedly 25) and recommended turning ssl off. Incoming mail works fine. If you are successfully using a mediacom smtp server, let me know.

Have you tried restarting or resetting your iPad?
Restart: Press On/Off button until the Slide to Power Off slider appears, select Slide to Power Off and, after the iPad shuts down, then press the On/Off button until the Apple logo appears.
Reset: Press the Home and On/Off buttons at the same time and hold them until the Apple logo appears (about 10 seconds).

The iTunes application saves your iTunes Store purchases--as well as any music, audiobooks, or videos you import--to your computer's hard disk, not the iTunes application itself.
The error message you note indicates that the purchase in question can’t be located where it is stored in your iTunes Music folder in order to play it, and may have been moved or deleted.
You will need to help iTunes locate the file. Follow the steps in this article:

Is there anyone out there happy with Media Encoder?

After almost year of working with CS4 under both XP 32 bit and now Windows 7 64 bit, I am delighted with Photoshop and After Effects, tolerant of the defects in Premiere, and absolutely insanely angry about Adobe Media Encoder. I have spent a great deal of time following other people's posts and recommended "fixes." None have made the slightest difference in the ponderous performance and frequent crashing, especially when exporting AC3 files through Surcode.
I have tested this setup with no greater happiness on clean installs with NOTHING else on the computer but CS4 with all updates. These systems have all significantly exceeded Adobe's requirements for the software.
I have used in that time three different motherboards. I have worked with Premiere for years, literally since version 3. A have loads of experience optimizing computers for video. I also have lots of experience with other editing systems, having done in-depth reviews of NLEs for DV Magazine for a number of years. This is not to say that I have not missed something, but the consistent complaints I see reveal a critical lack of attention to the broken bits of this system.
I see lots of posts on this and other forums about the poor performance of AME. I see very few where anyone is happy with the software.
My current 2-hour project which loads into Premiere in under a minute can take 20 or 30 minutes to load in AME. Even when exporting only audio, AME appears to launch PPheadless and render all video frames before getting to the audio, and I have repeated issues with the program locking up when exporting more than 20-25 minutes of audio.
The decision to remove all direct exporting ability from Premiere and use the often broken Dynamic Link to AME was a gross mistake which in my opinion takes Premiere off the table for any professional shop. I do not do work for hire, but I cannot imagine explaining to a client who is paying by the hour why we have to sit and wait for fifteen or twenty minutes for AME to load the project that was already loaded in PP to just export a brief section. The architectural decision might be OK if all the bits that were involved were bulletproof and reliable, but the ImportProcessServer.exe and other dynamic link bits are clearly the source of problems for many people.
So here's my question: is there ANY professional end user out there that is happy with the current incarnation of AME and the decision to remove direct export ability from PP?

What format(s) do you work in? What length of project? Do you output to AC3? I have no problems with AME for short projects or to output the same size/format -- for instance, I can usually output full HD for Blu-Ray but experience lots of crashes if scaling down to SD for DVD. The crashes also occur above certain lengths, usually 20 min +. With audio, I can output 5.1 uncompressed WAV in the same format (for instance, 16 bit) but if I try to output 24 bit (which AME is supposed to be able to do) I get "Encoding Failed - Unknown error." In fact the error log is ALL that very helpful message, always when transcoding to another format/bit depth/size. When outputting 5.1 to AC3, AME freezes up and fails at around 20 minutes.
Our systems are very silimar -- the current system is i7 proc with 6gb ddr3 ram on a gygabite GA-EX58-UD3R.
A have not had any huge issues really with AME for short videos or output to FLV for web.
But the workflow I use is something that CS4 is SUPPOSED to be able to do. And the very unusual issue is that I have seen posts about the same type of errors (with ImportProcessServer etc) on Macs as well.

1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
2 - Run Option #4, Rebuild Database.

See my reply to a later simplified version of your question. I don't think that either iPhone or iPad recognize RAW files such as NEFs. And the iPhone is not designed to be a mass storage device like a portable flash or portabel hard drive for temporary storage of files, if that's what you're after. As I mentioned in my previous reply, I have an iPad and have been experimenting with it as a tool for photography, hoping that it would be a nice travel tool for backing up and viewing photos from my Nikon dslr. But both the iPad and iPhone just are not set up to do that well. Both show photos nicely, but organization of photos is very frustrating since you can't create albums on the iPhone or iPad, but only back on your sync computer. (There is one very powerful photo organization app called SortShots, but you import photos to it and it organizes and stores the images wtihin the app not using the native photo app. It doesn't work with NEFs either.) I don't know of any RAW processing software for either device.
