Anyone recommend a Mixer/FW interface with L8?
A few months ago I replaced my analogue mixing desk + original MOTU 828 with a MOTU896 Mk3
I cant hear the difference between the MK3 and the original setup ( through powered DynAudio BM5 A monitors).
The 896 is packed with features which I would never use and is counter intuitive, with cheap small fiddly knobs. There is no simple way to get a separate 3 simple independent mixes: i) to head phones ii) to computer for recording and iii) a third mix purely to the monitors.
MOTU UK admit this is not possible without a third piece of gear which involves assigning a separate stereo mix from Logic to the MOTU and then to a separate analogue fader which directly controls the monitor level.
My studio is designed for overdubs and composition, not for mixing/mastering etc and have concluded this mixerless setup was a mistake.
My question is: has anybody used a smallish mixer with fire wire built in that is compatible with/had good results with Logic 8?
So far the M - Audio NRV 10 looks like the answer. It has the added advantage of being able to send 10 outputs from Logic back into the mixer for outboard mixing

I could recommend the TC Electronic Studio Konnekt 48 if 4 mic inputs are enough. It offers you 2 headphone mixes straight from the box trough 2 aux busses. Anyway, I am still waiting for mine, I just ordered one for the tiny studio I have at home.
Another choice could be the Presonus StudioLive 16.4.2 desk, which is awesome. In need for a live mixer, studio mixer, firewire interface, 16 state of the art class A mic pre's and channel strips, accompanied by loads of compressors, noise gates and effects and all packed in one sturdy 19" box?- this is it. Retail est. $2k, same in Euros. Pound? Very fluctuating lately, not? Well, I am seriously thinking of getting this desk too when it is available and the price is nice. Well, that would be great, but there are way too many variations of audio equipment for people with all kinds of tastes to make for a worthwhile market. Whereas I might think it's silly to have more than a 100W stereo amp others would consider that pathetic.
If Apple could pack a 100W+ amp into something that hangs off a power outlet, more power to them. I was thinking more along the lines of 5-10W, or just enough to power some wall mounted speakers. That said, [these speakers|http://store.apple.com/us/product/TU902VC/A?fnode=MTY1NDA1NA&mco=Mjc4M jI1MQ] look somewhat promising. It looks like they could be powered off the USB on the AEX, so at least no power brick. Unfortunately, they don't look geared to wall mounting, and who knows what the audio cable connections look like (because the ad deceptively photoshopped them out of the picture.)
The Express's low power analog output, plus optical, not to mention an Ethernet port, router, bridge, a/b/g/n wireless access point and USB printer port in such a tiny package with a self-contained power supply is a such a generalist's piece of connectivity I can't imagine asking for anything more.
It is a pretty impressive package. But, I'm still asking for GigE in the next rev. -

looks like it's just an animated gif letting users know their file
is uploading; if you want realtime upload information displayed for
the user you're gonna have to look at something like Flash with the
power of actionscript to achieve that result.

I have been using the Apple Mighty mouse with my iMac and am looking for a replacement. I have a lot of trouble using the right click on the mouse and am fed-up with it.
I want something bluetooth that will not take up one of my USB ports. I have set the third button to expose all windows as I frequently switch between applications and I like this function with the big screen I have.
Aperture and Photoshop are my main applications so I’m looking for something that is going integrate with those well. I want to be able to zoom and scroll around pictures with ease.
Does anyone have any recommendations?I am using a Logitech VX Revolution, actually a wireless notebook mouse but I have small hands, so prefer the smaller size over a regular size.
Apart from the size (which is an individual feature and there is a normal sized version called MX Revolution) it should fit most of your needs. It has six buttons a four way scroll function and a zoom slider. Using the Steermouse 3rd party mouse driver (Logitech's one is known to cause problems) you can individually set all buttons and functions of the mouse systemwide and for specific applications. Speed and accuracy is more than sufficient for my needs.
Only thing is that it uses a proprietary wireless dongle, so you still lose one of your USB ports.
Microsoft also produces good mice (imho their hardware is a lot better than their software , even some with real BT support (they still come with a dongle but you don't have to use it). However, from what I've heard, sometimes it can be a little bit tricky to get them to work with Mac OS X.

Can anyone recommend a wireless bridge?
I would like to get one as it takes out the hassle of drivers for wireless and means I'll get better signal quality as it doesn't have to be right next to my PC.
Can anyone recommend one that works well with linux? (so using a web browser to configure the connection) and working with WPA would be a bonus.
I'm in the UK if that helps.The iPod Touch only uses b/g wireless standards, so you can use any wireless-g router. Since Wireless-N is the next standard, you can usually get a Wireless-G at an economical price. G is an older standard and quite sturdy. Linksys would be a good choice for you since you are already using one from that company. Just swap it out with your existing router. Special note: if you do go wireless, be sure to shut off the wireless on your iPod Touch when not using it; drains the battery.

Can anyone recommend a portable USB 3.0 drive with hardware encryption, compatible with OSX Mountain Lion and Windows 7. I need it for my MacBook Pro 13”, 2012, running Mountain Lion & Windows 7 Ultimate - BootCamp. I’ve heard that the Buffalo MiniStation Encryption does not work with OSX, is that true..? Does anyone have a suggestion for an alternative to iCal that will interface with the Cloud so it works on the iPhone and the Macbook? I find iCal to be poorly designed and not very efficient. I waste a lot of time entering information because you can't go to a specific day and enter information, nor can you navigate between months and add information on a specific date by clicking on the date. You can't easily scroll month-to-month and once you do by scrolling through nine months to get to where you want to be, you cannot enter information by clicking on a specific day in the month and entering information. I just called Apple and they verified that this is the way it works. You cannot go to a date and enter information, you keep getting thrown back to today and then you have to go into the calendar and change it manually on the screen. It is just not efficient.

AS it stands now, in order to use the calculator that comes with the Dashboard, you cannot read from a list of numbers in, lets say, word or excel. The dashboard is full screen and nothing can stand along side it. Is there a way to get the calculator from the dashboard to appear along with other programs? Can anyone recommend a calculator which will work as a stand alone app?

Isn't Outlook simply an email client or a software application on a computer? You can add an email account - whatever email provider that you use - right on the iPad. You can sync your Outlook contacts and calendar if that is what you are asking about, but Outlook itself has nothing to do with the iPad.

Recommendations for audio interface with new mac pro to avoid latency?

I have a new Mac Pro on order for editing video in FCPX, but Presonus says my older Presonus Firebox won't work with Mavericks and the new Mac Pro. Do you have a recommendation for a replacement?
I only use the interface to drive 2 powered expternal speakers and a headset, so I don't need something super sophisticated.
As I read about units, almost all come with USB 2.0 connections. But the new Mac Pro only offers USB, Thunderbolt 2, Dual Gigabit Ethernet, and HDMI 1.4 Ultra HD inputs. If I can't find a fairly inexpensive audio interface with USB 3.0, I'd have to go through another connection to get into the Mac Pro.
The key for me is to make sure and avoid latency, a critical issue for editing video.

Your point about USB2 working in USB3 ports is something I wasn't aware of. That opens a lot of doors for me. And I'll look into the Yamaha sound board as one possibility.
