Anyone remember the QuickTake 200s?

Hi there everyone,
For those nostalgia addicts, I just managed to track down and buy a QuickTake 200 camera. Who needs megapixels these days, huh?
How rare are these things? I mean, I know they're serious collectors' items now, but does anyone know how many escaped the factories before Apple pulled the plug?
Also, with these being based on the Fuji DS-7 cameras, anyone know a quick 'n' easy way to hook it up to my Windows machine or PowerBook Pismo? One of my mates has a PowerBook 520 (greyscale) which I'm going to try it with, but my intention is to try and actually put the camera into everyday use (I say every day, but that's only if I can afford the batteries, ha ha). The camera includes the original box, manuals, TV and serial cables (not using the TV cable 'cause it's NTSC), memory card and software, all in good condition (impressive for a camera that's approaching it's 10th birthday). I've been around the net, and it seems you can run a QT200 on Windows with some tweaking and special cables, but I can't track down a clear answer.
I've got a good retro collection going all the way back to the so-called 'poor man's mac' - the Atari STe, and the QuickTake would be a good addition. It would also be one of those things I'd actually use. Who needs all the ultra-modern kit when old stuff works just as well? OK, I want a Mac Pro, among other things...
Thanks in advance,
Rob Johnson

Hi everyone,
Well, I just found out THE best way to use a QuickTake - MemoryTen in the US. They have an eBay store which sells PCMCIA 5v smartmedia memory card readers, which coincidentally work with QuickTake cards. I've bought one, which arrived today (from the US to UK in less than 3 days!) and works faultlessly. Here's their eBay store:
http://stores.ebay.com/MemoryTen
Click on 'Reader/Writer Card' and choose the 'PNY 5v SmartMedia to PCMCIA Adapter Card Reader.' It's dirt-cheap at only $3.99 (!!), simple and works great with my Pismo. I just downloaded 18 photos in a matter of seconds, and they're smashing quality for the age of the camera. Not only this, but they ship worldwide - FAST. The reader comes in a case - brand new, by the way - and feels like a slab of metal - great build quality.
So, I now have a gerneal-use camera that also happens to be a collectable classic - one of my mates, who lives an Apple life, is probably gonna kidnap me to get his hands on it! So, if you see a randsom note somewhere about me, it's to do with the camera...
So, Ken, if you have a laptop, you might be able to ditch the PowerMac and use your QuickTake on a 'Book instead (or if you have a Windows laptop, of course...)

  • Does anyone remember the CrossGrade thing that Apple did a few years ago?

Does anyone remember the CrossGrade thing that Apple did a few years ago? My understanding is that it brought academic versions of FCP and Studio up to retail versions. Now I'm trying to upgrade to Studio 2 and the guy at the store who initially agreed with me that this is what the program did and then he went in back of the store to do some research and when he came back says that crossgrade only filled out the disks in the set i.e. if you had FCP 4 Academic and did the CrossGrade you would have Studio 1 Academic... If I misunderstood the program I can admit it but I have been under this belief for so long... So the big question is... Does or did the CrossGrade program bring academic software up to retail/ upgradable versions???

The crossgrade only exchanged Power PC versions of FCP/FCS for Universal Binary (Intel compatible) versions. The software on Retail and Academic versions is identical. The difference is in the license -you would need a completely new serial # to go from Academic to Retail.

  • Does anyone remember the Apple II Computer Desk?

My first Apple product in early 1981 was an Apple II+ with twin disk drives and a color monitor. My boss was so impressed with it that he bought me an official Apple Desk, complete with sidearm. It was such a nice piece I  kept it all these years and recently gave it to my son for his iMac. Here is what it looks like today. Anyone remember this item? [It was expensive, on the order of $800 if memory serves me well!]

    NN2RL et al
Apple was always  into branding stuff back in those days. Any way to make some $$. The desk became known as the MacTable
and went through many design phases

  • IBook G4 late 2004 model - can anyone remember the size of the standard HD?

I purchased my iBook in 2005. It was the late 2004 model (I think this was the last iBook G4). Can anyone remember what size the HD was that came standard with the cheapest model?

    Hi Jeffrey
The iBook G4 (Late 2004) had two main variants,
    +Machine ID called PowerBook6,5+
    the 1.2 Ghz (12.1") and the 1.33 Ghz (14")
with hard drives being 30, 60 or 80 GB.
There was a later model, the last iBook G4 being the (Mid 2005) one.
    +Machine ID called PowerBook6,7+
    again two variants,
    1.33 Ghz (12.1") and the 1.42 Ghz (14.1")
with hard drives being 40, 60 80 or 100 GB.
I guess this doesn't really answer your question, with so many variations but I hope it gives you something to go on.

  • Does anyone remember the old "quasi-arpeggiator" Logic feature?

I seem to recall that I was able to hold down a note (or chord) and Logic would automatically record notes according to a quantisation value such as 16th notes, with note velocities equal to channel pressure.
I know about the arpeggiator in the environment set to "ALL", and I realize that I could build a transformer to map mod wheel or pressure to note velocities, but I think there was another way to do this.
Maybe I'm thinking about Studio Vision? Does anyone remember how to do this?

  • Anyone remember the marketing hype about Mac Pro 1st Gen being first full 64-bit?

Not a biggie as Apple don't really cater for my needs anymore, but I was under the impression that my 2006 Mac Pro was full 64-bit.

  • HT2240 does anyone remember the url to the old apple page for retrieving license keys?

I cant find my old Quicktime 7 license key. I can't get it from the Apple Store as the link for downloading software license keys was removed a while ago. So Apple did have a page where you could look up your previous software license keys years ago, but the Apple Store design of the present makes that next to impossible to find. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Look at the link on the top of the second page of http://www.google.com/search?q=app+store+lost+quicktime+license  It seems to mention something about QTP codes but you have to log into Apple.

  • ADDRESS CARDS of yesteryear does anyone remember the old version system 2.0

    Howdy.
I'm looking for a simple filing system similar to the old address cards of years ago.
A simple one where you can add multiple people's details and notes and just hit a search for their surname and up would come the details?
    Is this available for Panther?

    Hi Tracy,
You have Address Book in your Applications folder. I think it does what you want.

  • Does anyone remember Qix?

Does anyone remember the arcade game Qix (or better still, currently have access to one)?
I'd like to write a version of that game - I always really enjoyed it when in my teens. However my teens were SOME time ago and I cannot remember some of the important details.
    E.g.
    1. Did the fuses get lost if you managed to build a rectangle round them?
    2. Were there stages with two Qix's on-screen (I think there were)?
    3. Any idea of the scoring used? I remember that you had a choice of two draw speeds and the slower one got you more points.

    Yeah I remember Qix!
    That game was hard core!
    1. The fuses were not lost, the just followed the path of the box around until reaching the open again.
    2.Yes, I think there were.
3.I think the slower one gave more points, something like twice as many. I also think that there was a bonus depending on how much % of the screen was covered, but amybe I'm remembering another game like JezBall or something.
Let me know if you get it up and running,

Restart with the Mac OS X 10.6 DVD in the drive or with the Lion USB drive connected, hold down the Option key just after the restart, tab to the installation disk, and press Enter. If the computer has a firmware password set, it needs to be provided for this to work.
