Anyone running the X window manager on OS X instead of Quartz?
Has anyone tried installing and running X11R7? If so, did you have any problems?
I have not figured out a way to run X11 instead of Quartz. Both are there. You can't run Macintosh Apps under other GUI's hosted by X11. The X11 install can either take over the entire screen, or X11 windows can be comingled with OS X windows. The downside with using X11, is, well, it's X11. The GUI is crude and less consistent than OS X, and indeed it can be jarring going from an OS X application to an X11 app.

I'm on Mac OS 10.8.4. When I try to update InDesign CC to the latest version, the Adobe Application Manager launches and give me the following error:
Update Failed
Updates could not be applied
You are already running the Adobe Application Manager. Please close all instances of Adobe Application Manager before applying updates.
So, I quit the AAM, verify that it's not running in Activity Monitor and relaunch it... to get the same error message. I haven't found a solution online, so I'm hoping someone can help me get past this.Rfahl have you tried rebooting and then applying the update again? If so, and you still receive the same error, then you may want to try installing the update in Safe Boot mode. You can find more details for starting up in Safe Boot at OS X Lion: Start up in safe mode - http://support.apple.com/kb/PH4373.

I'm trying to update Indesign and Photoshop. I get a message saying that the Updates could not be applied - you are already running the Adobe Application Manager - but I have closed everything. It may be related to the fact that today, about every 2 minutes, Adobe Creative Cloud Connection pops up. I have closed it numerous times, but it continues to open.
Terminate the process(es) in Task Manager/ Activity Monitor.

Trying to run the SOA/BPM managed server withOUT running the Admin server
(This is for demo/development purposes... Using 11.1.1.4 in Windows 7 with 4gb)
Because of memory constrains I am trying to run the BPM/workspaces application without needing the Admin to be running.
When they both run, I can use the credentials I create with the Admin server but the response time is prohibitive and all my memory is used...
It seems to run much faster when only the bpm managed server is running but then I cannot login ...
So my question is simply: Whats the easiest way to set it up so I can use credentials elsewhere without requiring the admin server to be running?
( I could connect to an OID instance I have outside this server or the seeded demo they refer to in other posts ... but do these also require the admin server to be running???)

Edited by: clichten on Aug 20, 2011 9:35 AMI don't know if what you want is possible. Only did a suggestion that works fine for me. I'm running SOA Suite and BPM Suite 11.1.1.5 on WLS 10.3.5
Configure a new WLS domain and see if the BPM Dev template is available in your version.
I've tuned my startup script (setSOADomainEnv.cmd) as follows:
set JAVA_OPTIONS=%JAVA_OPTIONS%
set DEFAULT_MEM_ARGS=-Xms512m -Xmx1024m
set PORT_MEM_ARGS=-Xms1536m -Xmx1536m
if "%JAVA_VENDOR%" == "Oracle" goto OracleJVM
set DEFAULT_MEM_ARGS=%DEFAULT_MEM_ARGS% -XX:PermSize=128m -XX:MaxPermSize=512m
set PORT_MEM_ARGS=%PORT_MEM_ARGS% -XX:PermSize=256m -XX:MaxPermSize=512m
Use visualvm that's available from your jdk/bin directory to monitor your jvm and optimize it accordingly

Wait untill you see message “Secure socket listener start at port……”

Cd bi0104\user_projects\domains\bifoundation_domain\bin
startWebLogic.cmd
It will ask for user name / password. Specify the user details that you used at the time of the Oracle BI 11g install. You could also use a ‘Boot Identity File’ -(boot.properties). Check the documentation for more details.
Wait untill you see message Admin server is in ‘RUNNING MODE’.

It would take some time for the Managed server to start. Wait untill you see the ‘Running’ status.

Note that it’s a possible startup sequence. There are multiple ways to statup.

Please help on if anyone run the receiving transaction processor in online/immediate mode
Hi All,
Can anybody pl let me know how to run the receiving trx processor in online/immediate mode??
Regards
Harry !!Hi Harry,
System Profile "RCV: Processing Mode" decides the processing mode for receiving transactions, it can be either in "Batch", "Immediate" or "On-line" modes. It is reflected in RCV_TRANSACTIONS_INTERFACE.PROCESSING_MODE_CODE field.

Is anyone running the NEC LCD2690WUXi² with Nvidia GT120 or ATI Radion 4870
ive heard these are possibly not compatible with the latest "Nehalem" spec mac pros graphics cards - any truth to this?
can anyone tell me what are best 3rd party IPS Panel monitors out there that work?
lastly is 2 x 24" or 26" monitors best for video editing - i cant imagine running 2 x 30" screens, it must be overwhelming to manage from so close, must be more suited to photography/design?
xgHi GForceSA
If you can afford the extra cost buy the NEC Multisync LCD3090WQXi. In the UK mine cost me just over £300.00 more than the 30" Cinema Display, but there is no comparison between the two. The Cinema Display was state of the art when it was introduced (about 4 years ago?), but the NEC Multisync is in a different league altogether. I have been using one for 4 months connected to an 8-Core 2.93Ghz 2009 Mac Pro with 6GB RAM, 640GB Hard Drive, and GT120 Graphics Card and its colour fidelity is fantastic. You can also buy it in a silver finish, which looks great alongside a Mac Pro.
In my opinion the Spectraview version is not worth the vast premium it commands over the Multisync. I use my display for photo editing and digital imaging, and I bought a ColorMunki Photo for accurate monitor to print calibration. With the money I saved from not buying the Spectraview, I purchased a Wacom Intuos 4 A4 Graphics Pad, which is far better than a mouse for editing purposes, and I still had some change left over!
I have had no problems at all using the GT120, but I have just ordered the Radeon HD4870, because I will be using an Epson V750 Pro plus Silverfast Ai software to scan my collection of 35mm film negatives & transparencies onto my system, and each of them will have a file size of 40MB or more. After they have been edited in Aperture2/Photoshop Elements 8, some of then will then be printed up to A2 size on an Epson Stylus Pro 3880. So I thought it was time to invest in a faster graphics card.
The difference in screen space between 26" and 30" displays is very substantial, so, if you can, buy the larger size. Certainly I am very glad that I did! -

By default, DNS lookups are enabled when a web application calls
request.getRemoteHost(). This can have an adverse impact on
performance, so you can disable it by setting the
"enableLookups" attribute to "false". When DNS lookups are disabled,
request.getRemoteHost() will return the String version of the
IP address of the remote client.

Has anyone run The Sims 3 on a rMBP 13" (with Iris 5100)?
I'm curious what settings it has to be played at and what frame rates are achieved at said settings. Cheers!
you have your driver jar in Tomcat\common\lib?
if so, check your classpath, it could be that. -
Desktop Window Manager Service on Windows 7 Starter - Any Reason to Leave It Running?
Hello everyone,
-As per title, I'd like to know whether is it better to turn off Desktop Window Manager Session Manager (UxSms) service on Windows 7 Starter - or not. I mean changing the service's default startup type from Automatic to Manual (or Disabled).
-In Windows 7 Starter, the Aero theme and desktop composition are not available at all (not even a basic/partial one), so letting Desktop Window Manager (DWM.exe) to continuously run is useless as it does absolutely nothing. Is my deduction correct?
-All opinions and suggestions are welcomed, thank you very much.
Regards,

Desktop Window Manager
The desktop composition feature, introduced in Windows Vista, fundamentally changed the way applications display pixels on the screen. When desktop composition is enabled, individual windows no longer draw directly to the screen or primary display
device as they did in previous versions of Windows. Instead, their drawing is redirected to off-screen surfaces in video memory, which are then rendered into a desktop image and presented on the display.
Desktop composition is performed by the Desktop Window Manager (DWM). Through desktop composition, DWM enables visual effects on the desktop
as well as various features such as glass window frames, 3-D window transition animations, Windows Flip and Windows Flip3D, and high resolution support.
The Desktop Window Manager runs as a Windows service. It can be enabled and disabled through the Administrative Tools Control Panel item, under Services, as Desktop Window Manager Session Manager.
Many of the DWM features can be controlled or accessed by an application through the DWM APIs. The following documentation describes the features and requirements of the DWM APIs.
