Anyone's Airport just stopping randomly?

I recently began noticing an Airport problem. At home, I've used my D-LINK DI524 for years with no problem. Now, at random times, my Airport connectivity just stops. I look at the DHCP network prefs, and all IP data, etc. are still there, renew the lease, no help. The reception icon is full bars (it's a foot and a half from the router). The only thing that seems to work is to turn Airport off from the menu, then immediately back on.
Posssible zingers:
-I also recently added an iPod Touch to the mix, but it doesn't seem to loose wifi, even when the PB has lost it.
-PB works fine on ethernet from the same router.
-Router was firmware upgraded when I got the Touch, and all settings carefully reentered. The latest D-Link upgrade is dated 2006.
-10.4.11 with ALL updates.
-I'm not absolutely sure when this began - with SW updates or router changes.

My Macbook will just squeal randomly, its not from my audio because I've had the sound on and turned off and it happens regardless.
I cant re-produce the sound, I've also taken it in and they couldn't recreate/find the sound.
Probably because there were no devices connected to the MBP when it was tested.  Any peripherals connected to your MBP when you hear the squeals?  If so, you found your culprit(s)!

  • Airport just stopped working

    Hi Everyone,
I hopw someone has some info that might help.
I have a MacBook and PC (yuck). Both just stopped working with my Airport Extreme, and when I tried plugging the ethernet cable directly into both, nothing happened. No data was transferring.
I called my cable company and they were able to get my PC working, directly connected, but not the MacBook.
When the ethernet cable is plugged directly into the MacBook, nothing happens...no lights showing it's connected to the computer. When I connect the ethernet cable to the Airport, everything lights up, showing a connection, but I can't get the data to transfer from Airport to MacBook (or PC for that matter).
Right now, I'm hijacking someone else's wireless signal in my condo...don't really know who. So, I know my Airport card is working properly.
The tech at Brighthouse cable saod something about earthlink customers having trouble recently because of something that earthlink downloaded to them, where IP addresses wouldn't renew. I never downloaded anything, is this possible?
I'm really stumped, and frustrated because I can't connect, and it's not feasible for me to hardwire in due to the location of my cable modem. Plus, that only works with the crappy PC, and I don't want to use that.
Please, someone help...I'm desperate...and at a loss for what the problem could be!
    Thank you!!!!
EDIT: I just powered up my old iBook G4, and it won't connect to my base station either
EDIT X2: I should probably add what I have already tried...I have (several times) unplugged the cable modem and Airport base station. Used Airport set up to re-set it (again, several times).

    Ok MCOJerry,
    Here's the scoop.
My friend called and gave me the story much like you described. Almost identical in fact.
He had called TimeWarner, who didn't come to any resolution and then referred him to Earthlink, washing their hands in the process.
A over seas tech support then spend a couple of hours, then made a call back with another tech. who also spent significant time on the phone. This time the tech reconfigured OSX a couple of times. Set up alternate location profiles, changed the DNS settings etc.
They re-assigned the IP address and forced the cable modem to init. the MAC address list. They also disconnected the Airport Extreme (the square version) connected the mac directly to the modem and forced a manual set of IP settings.
They got the mac to work with this last configuration, but of course the rest of the machines were out of luck as was the network printer.
All in all he spent six hours on the phone.
When I got 'the call' I had him give me some preliminary network stats and then had him reconnect the Airport Extreme. This yielded a dead internet connection.
So as I wrote earlier, I went over there armed with a boat load of tools & cables.
I reconfigured the mac to a normal & stable automatic type configuration. I also reset the the Airport buy pressing the reset button for 5sec. Then set up a new configuration. I made sure that the latest update was applied to the Airport extreme.
Then I logged on to the cable modem. Don't mis-understand, I did not log on to the internet through the modem. I logged on to the modem's internal web server. checked some logs and ran a couple of tests.
Then I found the problem. The real problem: The signal power level from the point of demarcation (at the pole) was so low as to be useless. Eliminating the Airport Extreme, simply removed a level of complication in the system. It also may have removed some spurious RF that may have been introduced into the network. It did not result in a resolution to the real problem.
The cable line needs to be physically repaired. Either a wet connection or a frayed shield or the line needs a booster. But the problem, which looked like a Airport extreme issue is in fact a bad cable line.
I do have him up and running on the Airport Extreme at this moment by eliminating all extraneous length from his cable line within the house. The cable modem is now located in the basement where the cable enters the house. I have an single ethernet cable running from there to the Airport Extreme. I pulled all the other electrical items from this particular power line branch (This specific circuit.) This is all temporary until the cable guy/gal arrives to fix the problem.
I hope this may help you in your trouble resolution.
    -Alan

My iPhone 4S is only playing part of a song and then stops, sometimes plays whole song but for the most part it just stops randomly

Now it's Wednesday (2 days since I originally posted) & my iPhone appears to have finally restored all my apps, but it still says it's restoring from iCloud backup.  If all my apps are restored, what else could it be restoring?  IS it actually restoring anything at this point, or is it still in 'glitch' mode???  I've tried turning it off & back on & it continues to say that it's restoring.

  • Airport just stopped connecting - bizarre!

    Hi Everyone
I really hope someone can help on this one. My MacBookPro 2.4 (the latest one) has just decided to stop connecting to our home wireless network. It has been working just fine on this network for weeks. It has always connected just fine to many others.
    The wireless network in question is not encrypted - it's a remote location, no need for a password. Other machines can still connect to the wireless D-Link router, and my MacBookPro still works when connected via an Ethernet cable. However, today it stopped connecting to the wireless network, and tells me;
'There was an error joining the Airport network "My Network".'
This only started a few hours ago - I couldn't connect after having the machine in Sleep mode for an hour or so. Why, why, why?
I've tried the keychain, but this connection doesn't have a password. I've tried resetting the router - no luck. I've downloaded the latest software updates for my MBP - no luck. I'm about to try a different router, so I'll get back to let you know how that goes.
Another funny thing I've noticed is that the cursor (both mouse & touchpad) seems to skip every so often when the Airport is turned on, and therefore, searching for a network (seeing as it won't connect at the moment). Let's say I move the cursor in a small circle, after 5-6 seconds, the cursor will stop dead, and then suddenly flick to a seemingly random position on the screen! The cursor stops doing this when I turn off the Airport. This issue has only just started too.
I really hope someone can help with this one - it'll be very much appreciated!

This is insane - it connected just fine to the other router. The router connected to the Internet is a D-Link 604T, and the second router (which is now connected to the main router via ethernet via a WAN ethernet input) is a Buffalo Air Station.
Obviously this isn't an ideal setup, because I now have two wireless networks and I can't configure the main router from my MBP, but at least it works.
Is there anything I can do to fix the connection problem described in the first post? I read something about resetting the PRAM - will that make a difference?

  • Tatic 3D Alphas just stopped randomly working...

I have a Tatic 3d Alpha headset and I cannot understand why within just three weeks of usage they've just randomly died on me. I've tested them with different ports, adjusted the sound on the headset themselves, checked the line and inputs but they all appear to be intact. The USB soundcard that comes with it is absolutely fine so is the microphone on the headset and the microphone socket on the headset.
All it is, is just the headset speakers themselves aren't powering up at all. I can't hear anything, not even faint static. I've tried with many devices and computers and all produce the same results. They're just dead.
Anyone had any problems like this one? If so, how did you go about resolving it, if you've actually resolved it.
    Thanks.

thanks paul, i just had a similar problem, had to hold it for 30 seconds and the apple sign has come up, my phone was vibrating for over two hours completly unresponsive, now my lap top seems to be comunicating too, oh hello, its back on again...thank you!!!!

  • My airport just stops.  My internet provider says it my airport.  I do a diagnositic and bring it all back but it doesn't last.  How can I determine if it is my router or my AirPort?

My AirPort extreme just times out.  Or, maybe it's my modem althoug road runner says my router is fine.
I do a diagnostic, bring it all back after several tries and then away it goes.  How can I isolate and trouble
    shoot the issue?

What is the make & model of the Road Runner-provided modem/router? Is your AirPort Extreme you mention an Apple router or the built-in wireless adapter in your MacBook?

  • Access Connections main service stops randomly

    Hi all,
I have a T60 at work with the latest version of Access Connections.  Over the last few weeks, my Access Connections will randomly show that it disconnects in my system tray.  However, I am still connected to my company's network.  Our tech group came out and said that they are seeing instances of the Access Connection Main service just stopping randomly.  When I go into Services, I can verify that it has stopped.  This happens anywhere from 20-60 mins after logging onto our network.  It also only happens when I am docked to my docking station, not when I am wireless.  If I have a tech remote into my machine and restart the service, it starts up just fine again.
Any thoughts as to what might be causing the service to stop like this?  It doesn't present a problem if I stay docked...but if I undock and try to go wireless, it doesn't do the auto switching because it's frozen...so I always have to reboot.

    Hi,
    in this situation make following:
    - go to services and open Properties of both AC Services and in the Recovery tab set all 3 options to "Restart the Service"
    - In case this should not change the situation, then go to "Log On" tab and select "This account" and insert your name and password.
In this situation would be also good to check the Event log if there is any notice, why the Service stopped working.
    Any info is appreciated.
    Cheers

  • 80GB Classic Just Stops?

Help please? My brand new iPod Classic (80GB) just stops randomly when sat in the universal dock (new style). By pressing play on the remote it just starts up again. Not sure what to do as it has the latest software, I have done a hard reset, re-loaded everything etc. It is fine when not in the dock - all of the equipment is less than a week old - any thoughts? Could it be the remote sending out random signals? When it happens the displays goes to the green battery.
    Thanks.

alex... from what i've read on this thread and experienced with my 160g ipod and dock... this is an issue with the latest update of the ipod software. when the battery is full the music stops and the battery full message appears... apparantly this did not heppen in the last software release.
i think someone found a workaround for this by not using the dock remote to pause/play but i haven't had a chance to test it yet myself.
    hope this helps.

I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only person struggling with exact issue.  I've rebooted, upgraded, re-installed, pulled all my hair out as nothing works.
The biggest dissapointment with this thread is that nobody seems to have responded with a solution.
And yes I've managed to pull together enough intellegence to tick the box "sync to outlook" in iTunes - still nothing man.
Definately does not sync from phone to PC and is very hit and miss on PC to Phone.  In other words now running 2 seperate calendars - Not helpful Jan.

Hi! I've just purchased an iPhone 5S but whenever I text people with iPhones it sends from my iCloud account. This means that my email comes up for other people not my name/number which is really frustrating! Does anyone know how to stop this?

Go into Settings>Messages>Send and Receive> Is your phone number checked there? If you do not want your email used, then tap on them and remove the checkmark. If there is no checkmark by your phone number, then turn iMessage off, perform a reset on the phone, hold the sleep/wake and home buttons together until you see the Apple logo and then release. The phone will reboot. Turn iMessage on. When it activates, check your settings again under Send and Receive and make sure the number is checked and the emails are not.

  • Airport Extreme 7.6.1 WiFi just stopped working, HELP!

    Hi all,
not sure what is going on, but my Airport Extreme running 7.6.1 just stopped working over wifi. My desktop PC is wired to the Airport and it is running fine on the internet. My iOS devices, however (iPhone 4 and iPad 1) just won't work over wifi. My wife's blackberry is also not working over wifi.
I am running AirPort utility on the iPad and it can find and manage the AirPort base, but it says internet is not working (orange dot) which is not true, as I am typing this post on the PC wired to the AirPort.
I have tried to reload the AP to no avail. Have also tried to reload the iOS devices, to no avail.
What should I do? Seems like the bridge connection between the wifi network and the Ethernet port just died.
On a side note, 7.6.1 seems to be very unstable, my PS3 connection drops constantly, which never happened before. Can you point me to a more stable release?
    Persio

Try restoring the factory settings of the AirPort Express and delete all profiles
    you have set:
    1 Unplug the AirPort Express.
2 With the tip of a straightened paper clip to hold the reset button while
    plug the AirPort Express.
Wait until the status light stops blinking and then restart the base station.

  • Airport Extreme Card just stopped working -help!!

I've had my MacBook Pro since mid August with a built Airport Extreme Card. It has for most of the time been working fine with my Netgear router. Yesterday it just stopped working. The black bars aren't showing on the aiport, it keeps refusing to accept the WEP password.
I have tried switching the airport on and off, and have also switched off the router and re started it, all to no avail. The WEP password is correct.
I have a WIFI printer connection and the airport will not connect to that either.
This has happened once before about 6 weeks ago but I can't remember what I did, if anything, to remedy the situation.
I have 3 other laptops all working perfectly well on the system, and all printing from the printer without any problems.
Any suggestions before I and the laptop go hurtling through the first floor window?

Try resetting your MBP's PRAM ...
    Reset the PRAM
    o Shut down the computer.
    o Turn on the computer.
o Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
o Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    o Release the keys.
