Anyone seen these registry settings (Windows 32 bit)

My customer (windows 32 bit, 12i) Did a vision install and found the following registry settings:
KEY_APPS_C_HOME and KEY_APPS_JAVA_HOME
As I understand it the registry settings they should have seen should look somthing like KEY_<CONTEXT_NAME>TOOLS or KEY<CONTEXT_NAME>WEBOH.
Presumable they either did something incorrect during their install or had something wrong with their os environment. Do those registry settings give anybody a clue as to what my customer might have done wrong?
Thanks,
Dan

Dan,
I haven't heard reports about this yet. I'd like to have someone investigate this on our side. Can you log a Service Request via Metalink with the details?

  • Registry settings on 64-bit Windows 7

We are currently trying out TestStand 4.1 as well as 4.5 (the 2010 beta) on a 64-bit Windows 7. We have the following problem (not knowing whether this has to do with Windows 7 or with 64-bit, actually).
We always set the TestStand configuration and custom public directory to a mapped drive (X:\Settings\TestStand, actually) so that we can easily clone the projects and also switch between different projects on a single developer machine without regard to what user is active and where the user directory may be. That is, we set:
    reg add "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\National Instruments\TestStand\4.1" /v CfgLocation /t REG_SZ /d "X:\Settings\TestStand" /f
    reg add "HKLM\Software\National Instruments\TestStand\4.1" /v CustomPublicLocation /d "X:\Settings\TestStand" /f
    resp. with version 4.5.
This does not seem to work correctly with 64-bit Windows 7. Are there any issues known with this under Windows 7 and/or 64-bit Windows?
    Regards
    Peter
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Jim, is correct. To further clarify, on 64-bit Microsoft OSes, 32-bit programs will automatically get their access to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\National Instruments\ redirected to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\National Instruments\, but 64-bit programs must explicitly access things under the Wow6432Node key to modify values for 32-bit programs.
    Hope this helps,

  • LVOOP and RT Issues - Anyone seen these?

I'm seeing two potentially unrelated issues in my current application.  One is minor ... the other is (potentially) life threatening to my system ...
First, some background .... I'm in the middle of a large development project (Windows for the GUI, PXI-RT for ... well, everything else).  This is also a very heavy OOP project.  We are using LVClasses for as the messages being transferred between modules (individual paralell vis) and the TCP Communcation Engine, as well as for configuration and data file management.  From an architectural standpoint, this system is basically a "Hub and Spoke" model where there is a Hub that recieves and directs messages from all the spokes.
so issue #1 ... during development when I deploy my RT to my PXI (all I'm doing is clicking the run arrow) the front panels of certain vis open DURING the deployment process.  One of them does have the front panel set to "open when called" while I'm doing my debug.  The other is a the front panel of a dynamiclly spawned clone that I don't need or really want to see most of the time.  since they are opened during deployment and not when called, then don't close at the end of execution either.
and onto #2, this one is a problem ... fairly scary one.  When I deploy said RT system by clicking the "run" arrow I'll get to some point in the deployment process and I'll get a fatal error "F146640: Thread Stack Overflow."  I've done some looking into this, and I highly doubt this is related to the on KB article I could find (Real-Time Fatal Kernel Error 146640 at Boot Up) because this isn't happening on boot-up of the system, but rather on deployment.
That specific error says that if I have the serial console activated (right now I'm only using a monitor hooked up to the PXI DVI port) I can possibly download more error information, so I'll try to find a null-modem cable and see if I can't make that work.  If anyone has seen this or something like this I'd love to hear about it.  We are leaning in the direction that these issues are LVOOP related because we've never seen them before, and this "isn't our first rodeo" on an app like this.  I'm not pointing fingers ... I love LVOOP ... I just need it to work ...

I'm glad you were able to find the cause of the fatal kernel error by closing your references. Did you ever create a service request for troubleshooting this issue? If so, do you have a reference number that I can look at?
Also, can you post your project that has the Front Panels opening upon deployment? I have personally never seen this type of behavioir occur and am curious to see if I can reproduce it. What is your host computer and what is your target? Do the changes that you make seem to be of the same type (moving a control or adding a VI of a certain type etc?).

  • I have a brand new iPad 2 and it is not being "seen" by iTunes for Windows (64 bit Win 7)

I originally had my iTunes library (music, apps, etc) on a MacBook.  Used "home sharing" to drag over most of my collection to my new Windows 7 laptop.  All apps, music, etc show up fine in iTunes on Windows but when I unpacked my new iPad 2 and plugged the apple cable into the USB port on my Windows laptop and the other end in my iPad 2, no synching occured nor did the iPad 2 show up on the left-hand list on iTunes.
Any idea what might be wrong?  I did already try different USB ports.  Each time I plug and unplug I get the audible notification from my laptop that the cable is disconnected and/or connected.  so it's not a hardware issue.

    A Couple of questions..
Is the location shown under preferences/Advanced/General still showing the correct location?
Is the check boxes under this checked or unchecked?

  • Reset graphics and monitor registry settings

Hello, I have connected many different monitors and combinations of monitors either directly or via KVM switch. As a result, these registry keys have a ton of extraneous entries:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\DISPLAY
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\GraphicsDrivers\Configuration
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\GraphicsDrivers\Connectivity
The problem is that one of the monitors (a Sceptre X24WG-Naga) is not properly recognized. Sometimes it's identified as a Dell E228WFP, or a Dell 2209WA (both of those monitors are also connected at the same time), or it's identified as "EmulatorMode"
(the ConnectPro KVM switch provides that), or "Generic PnP Monitor", depending on how and where you look. The result is that I cannot use the monitor's native resolution (16:10 1920x1200). The maximum resolution available is 1280x1024
The above mentions registry keys seem to retain a permanent record of every monitor configuration every connected to the computer. I can't tell if the problem I'm having with the monitor is related to these extraneous entries or not. I'd like to (safely)
    remove them and start over.
I'm thinking that if I uninstall the NVidia drivers so that the system is only using the laptop's built in display (the laptop is a Dell E6410), then I should be able to delete everything except the standard keys required for the plain vanilla VGA.
Does anyone know what those are, or any other way to get there from here?

    Hi Jay,
First of all, I would like to explain the reigstry you mentioned in your post
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\GDI\Drivers\Display, by default, GWES loads a driver named Ddi.dll. To change the name of the default display driver, use the
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\GDI\Drivers\Display registry key to override the default display driver DLL name.
The registry key should be placed in your Platform.reg file.
For more information about this registry key, please refer to Microsoft article:
Display Driver Registry Settings (Windows CE 5.0)

Regarding HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\GraphicsDrivers\Configuration,  Please refer to the following forum post:

Please refer to the workaround that the forum post mentioned as following:
    Using Sysinternals ProcessMonitor I found that Windows was accessing the following Registry path;
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\GraphicsDrivers\Configuration
    My system had three entries;
    DELF003YY7707BR0MUL_30_07D7_6A^9A3774EB79DEE3E3E38496CC7DF4D936

Under each is a tree called "00" two of the keys are
    PrimSurfSize.cx
    PrimSurfSize.cy
    Under "00" was another branch also called "00" two of the keys are;
    ActiveSize.cx
    ActiveSize.cy
The first two of the configs (ie DELF00... & QHD3...) the above keys were 1440x900,
    so they were not involved.
The third (SIMULATED...) were set to 1024x768.
I changed these to 1600x900 and the problem was solved.
Further I changed resolution (via control panel) to 1920x1080, the moving/resize issue returned,
but the lower right corner was set to 1600x900, ie the SIMULATED... settings.
Hope this will help, and please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you.

  • Registry settings problem

When I open itunes, itunes warns that registry settings used by itunes for importing and burning CDs and DVD are missing. Itunes recommends reinstalling to fix this problem. After multiple reinstallments, problem is not fixed. Any way to fix? Any way to find and input these registry settings directly?

Someone posted this on missing the upper filter entry recently:

I haven't tried it myself and be careful if you decide to try it as it involves editing the registry.

iTunes for Windows: "Registry settings" warning when opening iTunes

  • Registry Settings error with Windows 7.

When I start iTunes, I get an error saying "The registry settings used by the iTunes drivers for importing and burning CDs and DVDs are missing. This can happen as a result of installing other CD burning software. Please reinstall iTunes."
After searching on Google, it seems that this is a pretty common problem. However, none of the solutions that seem to work for others have been working for me. I uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes, I downloaded the GEAR driver updates from gearsoftware.com, and I made the suggested modifications to my registry (GEARAspiWDM in the Upper Filter), all with no effect. iTunes runs just fine, I can burn and import CDs, but I'm still getting this error every time I load it.
    Can anyone offer a solution?

    Excellent news!
I think you should be fine now. I suspect the cause of the slightly strange symptoms here were the multiple UpperFilters entries (rather than those LowerFilters entires dropped by the other software). When iTunes launched, it saw the empty data field in the first UpperFilters entry, prompting the registry settings messages. But when you went to import things, iTunes could glom on to one of the other two UpperFilters entries and proceed as normally with burning/importing activities.
Now we've got the UpperFilters entries looking a bit more standard, I think we should be okay from here on out. If you upgrade iTunes at some stage and see the same sort of symptoms, though, I'd check for similar sorts of "doubled UpperFilters" issues.
Many thanks for the screenshot. If I hadn't actually seen all those UpperFilters entries in there, I'm not sure I would have been able to work out what was most likely going on.

  • Anyone have these settings in their Quicktime?

Anyone have these settings in their Quicktime? I got this tip from Worldstart.com this AM. I have this problem with I-Tunes when a song starts to play sometimes it stutters, skips. I tried to get QuickTime settings she tals about but I don't have them in Win QT 7.5
    Tip #3174 - iTunes Skips
Every once in awhile, my iTunes music skips. It's fine when I'm listening to the music on my iPod, but if I'm just using my computer, it all skips. What's going on?
    A:
Okay, so we have established that iTunes is a great musical discovery, but it leaves much to be desired when it starts to skip. Nobody likes to listen to their music with a bunch of stutters in between, am I right?! So, let's look at some reasons why iTunes might be doing this to you.
You can use the task manager to shut down other programs to see if that stops the skipping, but that's not really too convenient for anyone.
A lot of times, the skipping problem lies within the QuickTime program that you need to have in order for iTunes to work. There are a couple settings you can change in QuickTime to combat the stuttering issue. To do this, make sure your iTunes is shut down and go to Start, Control Panel. Once in there, double click on the QuickTime icon. You must be in the classic Control Panel view for this to work.
(Tab is called QuickTime settings,I don't have in mine, only Preferences)
Once in there, use the drop down menu at the very top of the dialogue box and choose Sound Out. This will allow you to work within the sound output elements of your QuickTime.
(These also are tabs within QuickTime I don't have, and I have the very latest 7.5 QuickTime installed)
Now, under the choice that says "Choose a device for playback," use the drop down menu and select "waveOut." You can then just close the QuickTime window. You don't need to press OK or anything, just completely close it out.
Next, restart your iTunes and your skipping problem should be resolved. You can start listening to your music again, while doing your other work as well, without any further problems. Like I said before, you should try this little suggestion before you go out and get more RAM, but if the problem persists, that may be just what you'll have to do. Either way, it's worth it for your music, right?!
    ~ Erin

That site is either a bit inaccurate or describes an earlier version of QuickTime. Go to the QuickTime control panel, double-click on it to open it (it will indeed open QuickTime Preferences), click on the Audio tab, and check the box that says "Safe Mode (waveOut only)". That has in some cases cured the "stuttering".
    Good luck.

Questions - Where to check the server backlog for TCP/IP requests?
How to tune the TCP/IP requests? Do we need to add any registry settings? Impact of those settings?
    Any help is really appreciated.

  • Java API to read the Encrypted Values from Windows Registry settings

Is there any Java API to read the Encrypted Values from Windows Registry settings ?
My Java Application invokes a 3rd party Tool that writes the key/value to windows registry settings under : “HKLM\Software\<3rdparty>\dataValue”.
This entry is in BINARY and encrypted with 3DES, using crypto API from Microsoft.
3rd party software to encrypt the data stored in registry it
either uses C++ code: and uses the call “CryptProtectData” and “CryptUnProtectData” or
If it is a .NET (C#) it uses the call “Protect” or “UnProtect” from class “ProtectData” of WinCrypt.h from the library “Crypt32.lib.
Note: The data is encrypted using auto-generated machinekey and there is no public key shared to decrypt the Encrypted data.
Since the data is encrypted using auto-generated machinekey the same can be decrypted from a .Net / C++ application using CryptUnprotectData or UnProtect() API of WinCrypt.h from the library “Crypt32.lib.
To know more about Auto-Generated MachineKey in Windows refer the links below
    http://aspnetresources.com/tools/machineKey
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms998288.aspx
I need to find a way in Java to find the equivalent API to decrypt (CryptUnprotectData) and Microsoft will automatically use the correct key.
But i couldn't find any informato related to Java APIs to enrypt or decrypt data using auto-generated machinekey.
Is there a way to read the encrypted data from Windows regsitry settings that is encrypted using the Auto-Generated Machine Key ?
Kindly let me know if Java provides any such API or mechanism for this.

If the symmetric key is "auto-generated" and is not being stored anywhere on the machine, it implies that the key is being regenerated based on known values on the machine. This is the same principle in generating 3DES keys using PBE (password-based-encryption). I would review the documentation on the C# side, figure out the algorithm or "seed" values being used by the algorithm, and then attempt to use the JCE to derive the 3DES key using PBE; you will need to provide the known values as parameters to the PBE key-generation function in JCE. Once derived, it can be used to decrypt the ciphertext from the Regiistry in exactly the same way as the CAPI/CNG framework.
An alternate way for Java to use this key, is to write a JNI library that will call the native Windows code to do the decryption; then the Java program does not need to know details about the key.
That said, there is a risk that if your code can derive the key based on known seeds, then so can an attacker. I don't know what your applicatiion is doing, but if this is anything related to compliance for some data-security regulation like PCI-DSS, then you will fail the audit (for being unable to prove you have adequate controls on the symmetric key) if a knowledgable QSA probes this design.
