Anyone solve "comp freezes on last imported song" problem?

I've seen a lot of posts stating...
-- importing CD
-- imports fine until the end of the very last song
-- just freezes (not reponding w/ 100% of computer resources) with no error message.
-- (more often than not) just upgraded to 5.x; didn't have problems before.
Has anyone seen a solution? I haven't seen any posts indicating a cause or fix.
Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have been having the same problem. The compter just freezes at the very end of iporting the last song from CD.
hi Christian!

  • ITunes freezing -- can't import songs

This morning I upgraded the new iTunes, hoping that the bugs from the last version were gone. I'm an idiot.
I went to sync my iPod, and for over 10 minutes, iTunes has been stuck on "Verifying Owner's iPod". Last night, iTunes froze up on me for the first time, while trying to get the 2.5 GB of new music I had imported transferred onto my iPod.
I love my iPod, but the problems with iTunes are making my purchase very frustrating.

It appears that one of the reasons I could not import songs is because iTunes 11 only seems to recognise .mp3 or .aac
I had been trying to import .caf and .aif
The old version used to recognise most audio file types and would also convert mot types to another ........... so long as they were .mp3, .aif or .caf

  • Importing song problem.

Hi, and just know, this is my first post.
My problem is kind of weird. I have a song that was in a WMV format, I believe, when I was first going to save it, but I changed it to WAV and MP3. I tried to import both into iTunes, but to no avail. What I mean is that I've tried to drag both songs, impoprt the songs song by song, and import the folder. I get through the bar at the top, but I don't find the song. What's happening? Please, I beg of you, help me! Thank you.

One quick question: Are you able to see the song files in explorer view in My Computer?

  • Importing song problem - not complete

I am able to import most songs but I noticed that some songs are not being completely imported. I just got a new laptop (windows xp) so I don't understand why there is a problem. I did try re-installing Itunes but that didn't work. I never had a problem importing before (for the most part) and these are the same cds. It will import like half the song or other songs not at all. Can someone PLEASE help me.

I eventually forced Aperture to close.  I was able to get the adjustment pane but in the histogram window is said no image found.
Does it look like this in the histogram pane of the adjustment panel? And do you see warning triangles or  arrow badges on your image thumbnails, if you enable badge overlays?
That happens, if Aperture cannot find the original image files; then you can browse the images, using the thumbnails, but cannot edit or export them.
Have you tried to import as referenced or managed? If referenced, where should the folder with the originals be located? Do you see the originals in the Finder?
If managed - have you repaired your Aperture library after you force quit the import? (Aperture 3 User Manual: Repairing and Rebuilding Your Aperture Library)
Are the images still on the card?

  • Anyone solved the 'only play for 1 second' problem

Since I upgrtaded to 4.9 from 4.8 I cannot play itunes over my external speakers. This was a problem that doesn't seem to have been solved. Unless I don't know about it. Can anyone help. I am not upgarding to itunes 5 there is too much noise about it. It seems flawed to **.

I have no issues with iTunes 5, they have already released an update 5.0.1.
I would give that a go, after all you have nothing to lose if you can't stream music now.
Have you tried rebooting your Airport Express?

  • Unplugging peripheral solved my freezing on startup/not sleeping problem

I just wanted to give a heads up to those that are having problems with 10.6 freezing on startup or not going to sleep.
My iMac was freezing on startup--gray screen with the apple logo then freeze. I also found that it wasn't going to sleep--the screen would sleep but the computer would still be running.
I tried everything to solve it, from starting in safe mode to repairing the disk and disk permissions to reinstalling 10.6. I checked my startup folder and nothing was there.
Before doing an archive and install, I simply unplugged my iPhone dock that I had plugged into a USB port on the back.
That seems to have been the problem. Whether it was the dock itself or something is wrong with the USB port, my iMac now starts up and shuts down without incident (and fast too).
Also, I have found that the system will sleep.
So, I guess unplugging a peripheral solved my issue (so far).
Now, when I want to update my iPhone, I simply plug it into the keyboard and unplug it when I'm done.

Several things it could be, but I'd suggest a new hD to start with...

Then a Fresh install of OS9.

  • Has anyone solved the "washed out colors" / gamma correction problem?

I'm trying to create a high-quality slide show from pictures. I've tried iPhoto, iMovie, and FotoMagico. What they have in common in the Quicktime engine for compression. There seems to be a problem with washed-out colors - across all programs - when trying to export the slideshow. I've tried many different codecs (H.264, x264, Photo-JPEG, PNG, JPEG-2000), as well as a variety of settings and filter corrections. Nothing has been effective. Last year, I was able to use FotoMagico with the Photo-JPEG codec, and the photos looked great. This year, things are not working (see photo below). The folks at FotoMagico attribute problems to Quicktime. And since I've tried creating the slideshow on a variety of platforms, I have to agree.
And yes, I know this is a common problem - I've read many google links - but I wanted to see if there was any current workarounds / solutions.
    Any other options?
    Thanks.

Seriously Apple... this has been an issue for many years now!
Why can't this be fixed once and for all?
The ridiculous thing is that VLC play H.264 videos with much better colors than QT.
This question has been asked many many times over the years and i have yet seen a single reasonable explanation from Apple.
Here's a quick test of a color image screen recorded to a mov and viewed on screen together with the TIFF image (screen shot of everything in OS X 10.6.6)
The washed out look doesn't show as much in this simple color test but is very obvious in normal videos.
    http://screencast.com/t/qQFCKZ0lgg5
    1. TIFF image
    2. Screen recording of above image with Intermediate Codec, viewed in QT 10 (colors not 100% but ok)
    3. Same screen recording exported from Intermediate to H.264, viewed in QT 10 (colors washed out, red very wrong)
    4. Same H.264 video (viewed in VLC 1.1.5)
Will this problem ever be fixed, or just ignored until no one use H.264 anymore?
    Cheers

  • Has anyone solved the "all mail marked as junk" problem?

Mail marks almost all incoming mail and all sent mail as junk. I've found some inconclusive posts on this but no solution. Can anyone explain (or, better) fix this problem?

    Hi
have you read this thread? http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=292113&tstart=100
esp about disabling junk filter & quitting mail.
You're using junk filter in automatic mode?
anyhow - blank field spam does seem to figure in breaking mail's junk filtering. Are you able to create a rule using the applescript linked to in my previous post?. If so - create one & put it at the top of the rule list to weed out any blank subject mail.
    Still a problem?
quit & restart mail - make sure junk filtering is enabled
    delete/empty the junk folder.
Find the mail in your inbox that's marked as junk & move it to the junk folder ( select them all & drag , or messages-move from the menu )
In the junk box, pick one of the moved messages & click 'not junk' - does it get moved back to the inbox? is it still marked as junk (assuming it did move back...)
If clicking 'not junk' isn't behaving - select all the messages & move/drag them back to the inbox. Are they still marked as junk? (hopefully not)
Repeat above with the 'sent' mailbox.
Disable junk filtering in mail prefs
quit mail & open it again
    re-enable junk filtering
    Any better?.....
If you're still having problems - make a note of all your rules ( you 'might' have to re-enter them)
    Quit mail
find the folder ~/library/Mail & drag a copy of the folder to the desktop (mouse + Alt) . Locate the file com.apple.mail.plist in ~/library/preferences/ & drag a copy of that to the desktop too.
These copies enable you to restore your mail to exactly as it is now - in case anything went wrong in the next stage. NOT that I expect it to, having tried all these things on my own mail installation......
Make sure mail is not running.
go into the original ~/library/Mail/ folder & trash these two files - LSMMap2 and MessageRules.plist
start Mail , go to prefs & make sure that junk filter is enabled for your account(s)
Send a message & see if it's marked as junk.
If you had a lot of rules & don't want to re-enter them manually - you can try quitting mail, replacing the MessageRules.plist file in the real Mail folder with the one from the copy made earlier & re-starting Mail.
If sent/junk is fixed - remember it may break again with a blank field email.
Sorry to write so much - but remember, I don't have the problem- so I can't test to see exactly what might fix it & just tell you the good bits.

  • Has anyone solved the iPod touch and Comcast email problem?

The reason I got a touch is to check email when traveling. As of a few weeks ago, I could no longer do this. The comcast.net page now requires Flash and directs me to the install page (which I cannot download to the touch). I asked about this at the Apple Store and the touch doesn't have/cannot have Flash.
Has anyone figured out how to get past the Flash page to just sign in and get email? I am going around with Comcast about this -- they continue to mix up the iPhone and the touch. I will post if I get a solution from them. In the meantime, can anyone help?

If you do NOT have the January Software Update, you must use the Webmail for Comcast. from Safari, type in http://mobilebeta.comcast.net works as advertised.
If you have purchase the January Software update:
    Click 'Mail' Application
    Click 'Other'
    POP Information
'Name' is whatever name you want to call the account
    'Address' is you email address
'Description' Whatever you want to call the account
    Incoming Mail Server
    Host Name = mail.comcast.net
User Name = [Your email address]
Password = [Your password] THIS IS CASE SENSITIVE
    Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP)
    Host Name: smtp.comcast.net
User Name = [Your email address]
Password = [Your password] THIS IS CASE SENSITIVE
It is really easy: just followed comcast for Outlook link
    http://www.comcast.net/help/faq/index.jsp?faq=EmailOutlook17742
Looks a lot nicer than in the web.
If you make any errors or need to change anything, go to home, then settings, then Mail

  • How to delete empty Last Import albums on Ipad2

This is both a question and a partial solution to anyone who has found empty Last Import albums on their Ipad2 after upgrading to IOS 5.1.  I ended up with three Last Import albums on my Ipad under the Photos App after the upgrade to 5.1 and Iphoto app.
I could not delete them no matter what I tried.  Even turned off Photo sync in Itunes and had it remove all photos from the Ipad and the empty folders are still there.
I ended up trying a round about way of getting rid of the empties.  I reasoned that the Camera Connection kit had created this mess and maybe it could fix it.
Solution:   (Only practical with a few empty folders)
Shoot some photos with a digital camera using a SD card.
Put the SD Card in the Camera Connection Kit and connect to the Ipad.  Import the images but keep them on the card.
Disconnect the CCK and hook up to your Mac with Iphoto running. Import the images and delete from the Ipad when asked.
    Delete photos from Iphoto.
Repeat several times and you should notice that each time one more Last Import album vanishes from the Ipad.
Hope this helps someone else with this problem and Apple comes out with a better solution to this.

I found a solution! I added a comment over on the shimworld blog (http://shimworld.wordpress.com/2011/11/02/how-to-remove-empty-photo-import-event s-on-your-ipad-2/#comment-18392), I'll repost it here:
I ran into this same issue on my new iPad(3rd gen) after upgrading from iPad 2, I had a few hundred empty events(it took at least 30s of scrolling as fast as I could to reach the bottom). I use the camera connection kit as well as the EyeFI app to import photos constantly so it was a bit of a mess. I’m doing a road trip to SF area soon and needed space for new photos so I need to figure something out. After a bunch of digging around on the internet and looking into tools from my earlier jailbreaking days, I found a solution to do a full reset on the Photos.app. This does NOT require a jailbreak!
First I imported all photos to my mac using Image Capture. Then I turned off iCloud’s PhotoStream, turned off photo syncing in iTunes and let a the iPad do a full sync and backup. Next I ran DiskAid and deleted the photo related folders under the File System -> Media area(see below). This removed EVERYTHING from the Photos.app. Then I rebooted the iPad. The Photos.app was empty just like on a new device! I snapped a couple pics with the camera and it created the camera roll, I turned PhotoStream back on, synced some photos from iTunes. Everything seems to be working great now, just like new!
BEWARE: THIS WILL DELETE ALL PHOTOS STORED ON YOUR DEVICE in Photos.app!!! MAKE A BACKUP!!!!
Connect iOS device with USB and fire up DiskAid. In DiskAid click File System, then click Media. READ WARNING and accept.
    Delete these folders:
PhotoData (this has all the photos, database, etc synced from iTunes)
DCIM (this is the camera roll)
Photos (I think this is just the data to determine which iTunes library its synced with)
    PhotoStreamsData (iCloud Photo Stream data)
Reboot iPad(probably not required but doesn’t hurt)
    Enjoy a fully reset Photos.app!
DiskAid: I used v5.12 on my Mac Mini(10.7.3)

When you set up a Smart Playlist, it automatically populates the list with songs. You don't have to do anything. Now, you may not have set it up properly, meaning your set up fails to recognize any songs.
If you just want to put music in a Playlist, just create one, give it a name. Then drag the music from the "music" list to the playlist. It copies the information there. And when you sync the Playlist to your iPhone, all the music goes.
It's truly easy, but there is a bit of a learning curve until you're good at it. Keep asking questions here, everyone will help you. But do read the Apple documents, they lay out pretty straightforward.

  • Importing songs/downloading podcasts results in crticial memory error

    Hello folks,
I have a problem with iTunes that I have been trying to solve over the past year and a half that renders the program unusable. For the record, I run a Windows XP Pro Service Pack 3 machine, with a Pent 4 CPU, 2 gigs Ram.
When importing songs, playing music, or downloading podcasts, my computer will eventually return a memory write error, and iTunes will crash shortly after. It does not matter in how large or small a batch of songs are being imported, how many or few podcasts are being imported. Eventually the system will return the error regardless. In addition, this error occurs only in the drive where the music files themselves are housed. I separate my program installs, my files, and my system files across three different drives, so it's only whatever read/write processes that iTunes uses when accessing files that causes the memory error.
Before anyone starts talking about how this is a dangerous sign that the drive that houses my music is about to die, this is an isolated error that only occurs when iTunes is run, and never occurs at any other time in the five+ years I've owned the computer. Once this error occurs and iTunes shuts down, my computer will continue to return errors with the mft file table, which will disappear once I restart my computer with no harm done to the files or any losses.
In order to fix this problem, I have uninstalled iTunes, reinstalled newer and older versions of iTunes, as well as followed the official procedures for completely stripping iTunes from my system in order to install completely cleanly, in order to see if there is a conflict between older installs of iTunes or other programs.
Does anyone have any idea what might be the problem? I can only assume that iTunes, for whatever reason, is not playing well with my system set up. My system specs are all above the minimum required to run iTunes according to Apple, so I do not -think- this is a problem with the computer running out of memory. I have also run itunes with a plentiful amount of free space on the drive that both houses the program and the drive that houses the music. Even vague shots in the dark are welcome at this point.
    Thank you very much, everyone.

I have finally figured out the problem. It is some corrupt music tracks. Once I delete the corrupt tracks, I can sync using Convert higher bit rate songs to 128.
The culprits are songs which show as if it 728:57:13 (758 minutes!), but are actually only small 51 KB files and are unplayable, or maybe play for a fraction of a second.
For me, these tracks were ripped from CD that had a scratch so they didn't import properly and I never deleted from my library.

  • ITunes freezes up during Import CD

I recently updated iTunes on my computer to version 7. Now, when I have iTunes running and I insert a CD, it gets about 3-5 seconds into the import and freezes. I have to abort iTunes and in some cases reboot the computer. This only happens on a few CD's. I have about 100 or so that DID work. I imported those few CD's on a different machine with the same version of iTunes and no problems.
If I play the CD with a different media player, and then start iTunes, it will import without problems, but as soon as I load another disc, it freezes up. Anyone ever encountered this problem?
    HP Media Center   Windows XP

I copied the library to cd, which took 19 cd's for 20gb.
I also moved a copy in hard drive. Look at article 301748 here. or here are the directions. It worked for me.
    Richard
iTunes: Moving your iTunes Music folder
If your hard drive is nearly full after loading all your music into iTunes, or if you just want to move all those music files to another hard drive on your system, here's a way to make the move while retaining all your playlists, ratings, and play history.
First make sure that the "Keep iTunes Music folder organized" option is checked in iTunes Preferences:
Mac users: From the iTunes menu, choose Preferences.
Windows users: On the Edit menu, click Preferences.
In the resulting dialog, click the Advanced button and then click the General tab.
Select the "Keep iTunes Music folder organized" checkbox.
    Click OK.
Once you've done that, follow the next set of steps to change your iTunes Music library location to the new drive and then consolidate your library to the new location. This not only copies your audio files over, it also retains your ratings and playlists. Note: If you move your music library to an external hard drive, you will need to have that drive connected to access your files. No matter what, it's always a good idea to have a backup of the media you have in iTunes.
    Open iTunes.
From the iTunes menu, choose Preferences (In Windows, from the Edit menu, choose Preferences).
Click the Advanced button in the Preferences window and then click the General tab.
Click the Change button in the Advanced pane.
In the Change Music Folder Location window that appears, navigate to the location where you would like your new Music folder to be created. Note: By default, your iTunes Music folder is a folder named "iTunes Music" in ~/Music/iTunes/ where the tilde "~" represents your home directory. In Windows, the default location is:
    \Documents and Settings\username\My Documents\My Music\iTunes
Click the New Folder button in the Change Music Folder Location window.
In the New Folder window that appears, enter the name of the new iTunes Music folder.
    Click Create.
Click Choose in the Change Music Folder Location window.
Click OK in the Advanced window.
From the Advanced menu, choose Consolidate Library. A message appears that says: "Consolidating your library will copy all of your music into the iTunes Music folder. This cannot be undone."
Click Consolidate. Important: This action copies all of your music files to the new location. There must be enough hard disk space available to copy all of your music files.
After the folder has been copied, locate your original iTunes Music folder, and drag it to the Trash or Recycle Bin. Note: Don't remove the iTunes library files that may be in the same location as the iTunes Music folder.
Empty the Trash or Recycle Bin.

  • Static Noise from Imported Songs

I imported songs from my CDs using iTunes 7 and it created some static noise in some songs. I doesn't do that for every song, maybe one in every ten songs, but it is frequent enough to bother me.
When I imported same songs using Music Match program and manually added them to iTunes, I don't hear any static noise.
Any idea to solve this problem? Thanks.

I too have this problem. This used to be the case with both Windows Media Player and iTunes. So, I updated my Windows Media Player to version 11 and overcame this problem in the windows side of things. I then import from the Windows Media Player or WMA format to iTunes 7 and do not have static. My problem began once my son imported his Wierd Al Yankovick CD directly to iTunes. Now every cd comes in with static. I still cannot import directly from CD to iTunes 7. And, yes, I do have the latest version. We should be able to do this directly.
Any advice from anyone out there in Apple land as to make iTunes import correctly?
