Anyone successfully using Btrfs with dm-cache - any howtos

Hi
Does anyone successfully set up dm-cache (or flashcache) on arch? If so is it performing well and stable for you? and how did you set it up (nothing yet on the wiki)?
thanks in advance

don't know about dm-cache or flashcache. But at least bcache (which is the one I would choose from the three options if I had a caching drive) shouldn't be stable with btrfs yet according to: https://btrfs.wiki.kernel.org/index.php/Gotchas

  • Is anyone successfully using Firewire with iTunes 7?

I am having the same problem as many since upgrading to iTunes 7 in that my iPod is seen by Windows Explorer, but not by iTunes.
I am wondering if the common dominator is the Firewire connection. If I connect via USB iTunes sees my iPod fine, but I only have USB 1 so it is very slow.
1GHz AMD Athelon   Windows XP Pro   40G Click Wheel iPod

At first, my iPod was working just fine with iTunes 7 then I started to get the same problems as others have been reporting. I found the solution but it was just better for me to go back to the previous version of iTunes(which gave me no problems) until iTunes 7 is fixed. So, I don't think Firewire has anything to do with it.

  • Has anyone successfully used the ZTE Open C with an AT&T microcell?

I have a ZTE Open C and have had no issues with initial setup w/AT&T. However, like most newer phones the voice signal reception is very weak.
I've had an AT&T Microcell before, but I don't have one now. For those that are unaware, the microcell allows 3G phones to connect via a 3G signal, but the call is routed through a home broadband internet connection.
Has anyone successfully used a ZTE Open C w/Firefox OS AND used an AT&T microcell? If yes, did you need to do anything special on the phone or with Firefox OS.

I don't use a ZTE Open C, however, I do have a ZTE Open (Original) on AT&T and so I'll see if I can help ;D
I know someone who has a Microcell, and I have used it myself a few times. However, the microcell only works if you have entered in your phone number into settings of the Microcell.
    Check the Microcell settings.
Check the data connection settings on your FxOS device
Make sure your Microcell is properly connected to WiFi
and check the AT&T support page for more info
For a while, it actually hasn't actually worked for me. I apologize if this doesn't solve your problem :D

Has anyone successfully used the Intuit Quicken compatible with Lion upgrade for investment tracking?

Although I gave up investment tracking for personal reasons (I had used Quicken Deluxe 2002 for many years for that reason), my understanding is that the new Quicken 2007 for Lion/Mt. Lion is completely the same feature wise as Quicken 2007 for PPC.  It will run on Snow Leopard, too.
For $15, why not download it and just try it and LET US KNOW!

  • Has anyone successfully used Oracle EM as a Monitoring Solution??

    Hi All,
This might be a wrong place to post ;) but anyways. My question is can we use Oracle EM as a Monitoring Solution? If so has anyone successfully used it?
I have used Oracle EM over the years for mostly managing Databases. Eventually with the Middleware Support I have tried to use it to monitor Middleware Servers, earlier OC4J and recently WebLogic Servers. I however find that most people when talk about EM they think of it as a Business Transaction Monitoring Solution. (Lets keep BTM out for a while I know about that plugin but it is another full set of questions)
Mostly I get questions as to can we "drill down the transactions" and see who initiated it and "what is being processed at this moment". Here transaction means Business Transaction as opposed "this thread is executing this particular piece of code". People want to know this piece of code is being executed "for Purchase Order XYZ" as opposed to just knowing that purchase order is being processed. If you know what i mean.
No doubt OEM is great tool for an Admin but does it really sell itself as a monitoring solution? I have not seen a successful implementation so far with OEM being a central monitoring solution. If anyone has any experiences to share it would be great.

I tried to look at that option. It is available only for the Database. I was looking something more towards say the web Services hosted or the Web Applications hosted on Weblogic instances. Can we find say the Web Service call which had the Purchase Order XYZ in its request, etc.

  • Has anyone successfully used a "WD My Book for Mac" via NAS (plugged into USB port on router) as a Time Machine back-up drive?

Has anyone successfully used a "WD My Book for Mac" via NAS (plugged into USB port on router) as a Time Machine back-up drive? Apple support tech tried to tell me it wasn't possible and that the only NAS Time Machine could back up to is the Time Capsule, but I'm not buying it. I know it's doable, but I'm having a hard time figuring out which External HDDs will work and which ones won't.  If not My Book for Mac, is there an External HDD that will work? (Running OS X 10.9.1 - Mavericks, btw...)

Given the nature of backups, my recommendation has always been to use a strategy that is unequivocally supported by Apple. As you already determined Apple Support unequivocally informed you that your proposal will not work, unless your router is an Apple AirPort Extreme or Time Capsule.
The exhaustive list of devices supported by Time Machine amounts to the following:
AirPort Time Capsule's built-in hard disk (any model)
External USB hard disk drive connected to a Time Capsule (any model)
External USB hard disk drive connected to an AirPort Extreme (current model only)
A hard disk drive directly connected to your Mac
    That is all.
Use whatever backup device you want, but you should be aware that this site is full of reports of misery from hapless individuals who had been using NAS devices for Time Machine backups, only to find that they were incomplete, corrupted, or useless when they were required. Apple won't care if you lose your data while using a Time Machine configuration specifically excluded from their technical support documents.

  • I ordered my Macbook Air with Aperture two years ago. I now have an iMac - can I use that with Aperture in any way?

I ordered my Macbook Air with Aperture two years ago. I now have an iMac - can I use that with Aperture in any way? I appreciate that it is a different computer but I am now the end user of both devices and I was just wondering if it was possible.
    Thanks,
    Sean

The answer would be in your software license agreement for Aperture. However if you cannot locate it you can ask in the Aperture forum, the link for that is:
    https://discussions.apple.com/community/professional_applications/aperture
However I believe you can have Aperture installed on two machines however only one may be using it at a time.
On the new iMac launch the Mac App Store - Purchased - look for Aperture and download to your new machine.

  • Is anyone successfully using Digieffects Camera Mapper with CS5

    Hello all,
I greatly want to use Digieffects Camera Mapper with After Effects CS5 in Windows 7..
    http://digieffects.com/product/camera_mapper
But it keeps crashing my installation of After Effects.
I'm using the demo CS5 version downloaded from the DigieEffects website.  Digieffects support says the demo version works the same as the paid version (except for the watermark.).   No problem there -- if I can get the demo version to work then I will buy it.
Digieffects support says it works fine with their Windows 7 CS5 installation of After Effects.
I went so far as to completley reinstall windows and reinstall CS5 master collection.  But after all that work I get the same crash.
We are talking about a clean install of Windows 7 and a clean install of the CS5 master collection with nothing else installed on the computer.
And I keep getting the crash.
So my question here, is anyone succesfully using Digieffects Camera Mapper with CS5.  Are there any tips that I should know of.  Please look at my screen captuers of the steps I take which end up in a crash.
As I said this is a new (just a few hours old) installation of Windows 7 Professional and a new (just a few hours old) installation of CS5 Master Collection.  No other plug-ins or programs installed.
    Thanks
    ...Rowby

I'm sorry to say I have not heard from Digieffects regarding Windows 7 CS5 compatibility with Camera Mapper.
It is strange because I've had at least one phone call from them, and then a few weeks ago they said they confirmed there was a problem and their engineer was working on it, and I should expect to receive an update of the plug-in that works with Windows 7 CS5.
Since then I haven't heard a peep, even though I sent them 2 follow up support requests.
In my case I was testing a demo, but Digieffects support said the demo was the same as the non-demo version (except for the demo watermark).
Below is a link to Digieffects' compatibility page which shows that Camera Mapper is compatible with CS5.
    http://www.digieffects.com/support/compatibility
Their silence on this issue, after their assurances to me that a fix is eminent, is baffling.
Below is Digieffects support's last communication with me, on October 11.
    >>
    Rowby,
I think the engineer has this one figured out. Turned  out to be a problem in the plugin- I will send you an updated one at  some point today as soon as I recieve it from the engineer. Thanks for  your patience and help with this one

  • Is anyone successfully using Netgear WN3000RP with Airport Extreme?

Got a brand new WN3000RP wifi range extender. I went through the installation several times myself and several times with tech support to no avail. Tech support told me to return it for a new one.
Everything is connected and the install process goes smoothly but I ultimately cannot ever use the extended network to connect to the Internet. I can see the range extender's mac address on the router but the two devices don't seem to talk to each other.
I'm just wondering if I'm going to have the same problem with a new one or not and wondering if it's even compatible with Airport Extreme routers.
I'm using Airport Utility version 6.1.
Can someone out there can let me know if they got this device working with their Airport Extreme?
Also, what are my other options to extend my range?

I know this answer is likely too late to help but it may help users in the future. In the situation where you are using a range extender there are a few things you need to confirm to make sure it is going to function properly and also some best practices to make sure your network is running smoothly.
    1. Is the range extender using the router for DHCP? I have found in my experience is that the router should "reserve" a MAC Address and IP for the the Range Extender. Most times it is 192.168.1.2. I would first set up the router to have the range extender have a set IP Address of 192.168.***.2 and add the MAC Address to the list so that the Range Extender has a Static IP Address in the private network.
    2. Initially set the range extender to have an SSID(Wireless Network Name) different than the Router's(Airport) SSID. This will allow you to determine if the Extender is functioning normally without it interfering with your existing network.
    3. At this point it is important to set the Range Extender DHCP. What this will do is let the range extender request IP Addresses, DNS(Domain Name Servers), and UPNP Requests. This is where I feel that a lot of people are having issues and assume that the router will still resolve DHCP. If the SSID and Wireless Channel are the same your network will work intermittently with internet access until it is configured correctly.
    4. For Devices that will stay on your network such as NAS(Network Storage), Smart TVs, Apple TVs I would recommend setting Static Private IP Addresses for each of them. Such as 192.168.1.3(NAS), 192.168.1.4(Apple TV), 192.168.5(Smart TV). Also if you enter the MAC Address for each device when you set this up it would be recommended.
    5. If devices are having issues connecting to internet or certain web services are having issues. It may be necessary to set the Extender(Which is now handling DHCP with IP, DNS, and UPNP passed through from the router) as the Gateway for which device may be having issues. For instance if the Apple TV is having issues communicating on the network(Air Play, Sharing, Streaming) set or configure the network settings manually on the Apple TV. The IP Address would be the one your reserved on your router. The Subnet Mask would likely be 255.255.255.0 by default unless you have changed the amount of potential "Hosts" on your network. The Gateway would be the IP Address of the Extender(Which is paired with your router). DNS servers should be handled automatically. In some situations with certain devices you may need to use a DNS Service for Streaming, but this generally isn't needed.
    A Visual Representation would be
ISP>Modem if needed>Router(DHCP Enabled and MAC Addresses Reserved)>Localized Devices<Range Extender(DHCP Enabled and Static IP Address 192.168.***.***)<Apple TV(Manually Configured IP Settings and Range Extender set as Gateway)<Other Devices Localized to Range Extender but not in range of Router(AirPort).
In this representation you should be able to have the router and range extender broadcast Identical SSID and Channels(Radio Frequency). This also allows for advanced settings to be put in place such as LAN networks or Subnets.
An issue that may come up is communicating with the range extender or router while setting up the network. A simple workaround that will allow you to configure either if the network doesn't let you connect on a MacBook is to go to System Preferences>Network>Wifi or Ethernet>Advanced>TCP/IP in configure IPv4>Set Using DHCP with Manual Address> Then IP Address that corresponds with your current network 192.168.***.*** but is not the same as the gateway, router, or reserved devices. This will allow you to connect and configure devices even if router or extender is not assigning IP addresses or operating properly.

  • Anyone successfully use DOS-bootable thumbdrive on T400s?

    Hi,
I have a couple of flashdrives that i've formatted as bootable DOS disks and i've used both of them on my old HP NC6400 for yrs. But my new T400s is pretending that it can't see them. My T400s will boot from an external USB floppy and it also has an entry in the boot sequence list in the BIOS for an external USB HD and, IIRC, an external USB optical drive. But formatting my flashdrive to emulate a HD hasn't worked so far on the T400s.
If I plug in one of these DOS flashdrives, hit the power button and then F12 the "bootable devices currently seen" list shows NO USB devices at all.
So before I call Lenovo tech support I thought i'd check and see what your experience has been. And, if you have successfully used one of these guys on your T400s what utility did you use to format your drive and what kind of emulation did you use?
    TIA,
    laffin_boy

IIRC there are some older BIOSen that insisted on displaying USB flash drives as hard drives.  Worse, on one machine, I have to boot to BIOS with the flash drive plugged in, move it up in the hard drive boot list, reboot to the boot menu, and select boot from hard drive.
My T400 behaves as one would expect: USB flash drives show up explicitly in the boot menu. I'd expect your machine to behave the same way.  On the off chance, do you see an expandable HD list in the boot menu ( a "+" or something)?

  • Is anyone here using Safari with SharePoint 2010?

If so have you seen any javascript validation errors like "The server method ‘ValidateTerms’ failed”, “The server method “GetMatches” failed", or "“There was an error processing the request” when navigating around a user profile in edit mode?

@Old Toad: Thanks for the compliment on our software. It is very much appreciated and I am glad you like it.
We have actually been doing web hosting for over 10 years, just not under the RAGE brand.
@cake artist: Most web hosts will work with iWeb without any problems. Web hosting is very standard. It usually does not matter who you go with unless you require something special which most iWeb sites won't. The biggest advantage we offer is we are Mac guys who know iWeb very well and can help with any iWeb related problems. We can also guarantee 100% compatibility with our free iWeb SEO Tool so you only have to deal with one company if you have any issues.
We can offer phone support if you really need it, but we have found that providing step by step help over email is much more effective.
Anyways, just wanted to clarify and hope this helps!

  • Anyone successfully using an LG  Monitor with a Macbook Pro?

I am considering an LG L226WQT to use with our MBP and Powermac G5. I have been told that LG monitors don't work well with Macs, but I have not found any actual information suggesting this.

I just got the HP LP2275w, and I'm not able to get it to detect the signal from the Mac. I may be missing something entirely, since my MacBook Pro is also new and my primary computer was a Windows machine before. Anyone have any tips on getting this monitor going with a MacBook Pro?

  • Anyone successful using any other technique than O...

OVI Music is virtually useless to transfer a large quantity of music. After anywhere from 0 to 50 songs, it just plain hangs even with the latest OVI and the newly released N97 firmware.
Has anyone found a viable alternative that works reliably? Perhaps some other music software's syncing; mass storage mode...anything??
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Success! 750 albums loaded, all appear in the N97 Music Player, and my home screen icons and music widget did not get corrupted (as it did each time with Nokia Music). And, the new N97 firmware refreshed the library in about 7 hours, twice as fast as the original firmware.
I appreciate all the responses. The common theme here is that using Mass Storage mode is faster and more reliable than trusting the Nokia software.
To recap the simple steps for anyone needing to load a large amount of music into the phone from Windows:
    1) Make sure you have your Windows music library organized in folders, where each artist has a folder and each album for that artist is a subfolder. This step will make refresh and access by the phone's player faster.
    2) Make sure your phone is fully charged if you need to transfer a lot of music!
    3) Connect the USB data cable and select Mass Storage mode.
    4) Open 2 copies of Window Explorer (will make it easier to see existing contents and what is being copied).
    5) In one Explorer, navigate to the root of your music so that the list of artist subfolders is in the right pane.
    6) In the other Explorer, navigate to the mass storage's assigned drive letter. You should see two drive letters for your phone, one for the phone memory and one for the mass storage. Open the mass storage drive and navigate to the "Music" folder to reveal its contents.
    7) In the 1st Explorer, select all the artist's folders you want on your phone, then drag the group into the Music folder in the 2nd Explorer. For me, it took about 2 hours for 7000 songs. (That's about 10 times faster than using Nokia software)
    8) When done, be sure to use the Windows System Tray icon to "Safely Remove Hardware" before disconnecting the USB cable from the phone!
    9) Connect the phone's charger since the next step can take a very long time...and running out of battery during the refresh will be bad.
    10) Lastly, go to the N97 Music Player, choose the Library, then select Options/Refresh Library.....and wait. until it's done.

  • Has anyone successfully used OSX Lion with Logic 8, a Digi002 and Digidesign's Coreaudio?  Need to know for iCloud update.

I need to upgrade to Lion for iCloud and to shift my mobile me iDisk to iCloud in order to save the content I have and need to share.
Anyone using Logic 8 with this?  I want to be sure, as I can't afford to upgrade everthing just yet.
    Thanks

I can give a partial answer.
If you're installing Lion over the top of Snow Leopard Logic should be fine, it you're going to run a clean install of Lion, Logic 8 will not install but will run if you can copy it over from a working SL install.
Update: This thread has info on how to install Logic 8 on a clean install of Lion.
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/18270040#18270040
The other issue are Digi's Core Audio MIDI drivers, they don't seem to be Lion compatible yet so while you may have the audio part of the interface working with Lion, you have to remove the MIDI drivers or Logic chokes while booting up. (unless there are new drivers I don't know about) Perhaps others have more info on the Digi situation.
