No, not personally, but my favourite Apple reseller is my alma mater's computer store (alumni discounts!), where the techs have been using Kingston RAM for years, and said it was fine for my aluminium G4 pbook.

Has anyone tried Kensington RAM in their Mac Pro?
Has anyone tried Kensington RAM in their Mac Pro? I found this ram and that is far cheaper than OWC or apple.

Please let me know what your experience has been with 3rd party ram.
LesterNewEgg: " Memory returns allowed for 30 days, subject to 15 percent re-stocking fee. "
So YOU are the expert about which are the correct modules. a mistake costs you 15 percent plus shipping.
I prefer to do business with mac-centric vendor who lend me their expertise and tell me what memories work in my Mac, "Guaranteed or your money back."
OWC is one that does business that way.
Data Memory Systems does as well, and that is the outfit I use.
The last 1333 8GB module like these I bought from them came with a large flat heatsink installed. I put it in my Server. The price has fallen a bit since then, and now they are asking US$78, but "Guaranteed."

Has anyone tried this? AutoMailMerge Plug-in for Adobe Acrobat
Mail Merge in Acrobat 9 Professional?
Hi, All!
I have been told that I can perform a mail merge similar to MS Word from within Acrobat Pro 9. The main document (with merge type fields) needs to be an Acrobat .pdf. The data source can come from an external file. The key is that the merge is performed in Acrobat, not Word.
I have searched throughout Acrobat Pro 9 but have found no functionality that matches my needs. Can anyone help me with this?
I was informed the there is this outside company that has this "AutoMailMerge™ Plug-in for Adobe® Acrobat®"
http://www.evermap.com/automailmerge.asp
Has anyone tried this? Does it work? Will it do what I'm looking do?
Please help!
Thank you!

Has Anyone tried this new plug in WooWave Sync Pro?
Hi there
Has anyone tried this new plugin Woowave Sync pro?
They claim to offer better results than you can get with the built in synchronizing engine.
I downloaded the trial but can't figure out how to enable it in fcp.
I got this crappy footage.. hours of it and I really need something to sort it out , hate manual syncing
fcp tries and does some of it, but I got hours left unsynced.there are four episodes from MacBreak Studio avail for free, which explains MultiCam in FCPX

Have 1 POP3 email account I want to work like IMAP email in icloud (keeps my iMac, iPhone, ipad mail in sync). Apple suggested trying creating a new Apple ID just for that POP3 email. Has anyone tried this to see if it works and will delete/update across multiple devises? Would mean keeping up with two Apple ID accounts but only other alternative I know of is paying for monthly service for Microsoft 365.
would I be able to "upload" (not sure how else to say it) my existing folders and subfolders containing all my emails so that they are all available on my new IMAP service, while still being available on my Mac?
Not easily, no. There's no direct transfer option between POP and IMAP, especially across email providers. The best you could do would be to forward all of your emails to your new address, although it's not clear that you need to - dropping your sbcglobal.net account doesn't instantly render all your existing mail void - it'll still be in your Mail client, you can still read it, search it, etc., it just won't be on your provider's server.
I have toyed with the idea of getting a MobileMe account. Would that solve my issue/question above?
MobileMe would be viable, especially if you're interested in synching your various iOS devices. It's not free, of course, unlike Yahoo and Gmail, although you've already discounted them...
I have also toyed with purchasing my own URL, but it's hard to tell from the sites (1and1, Namecheap, etc.) if they come with IMAP email accounts included.
Some registrars offer email hosting bundles with a domain registration. This could be a good way to go. GoDaddy, for example, have a email hosting option for domains you register with them. -
Has anyone bought and used this RAM?

Price looks good but I am concerned the heat sinks are not good enough and will cause issues with the RAM and temps within the Mac Pro.
WilliamI picked up 2GB (1GB sticks) from datamem.com for
$378. I will have it monday, and will reply on how
they look and perform.

Cool! Let us know how it works, stress your Mac Pro and make sure you get NO errors! Seems memory for these Macs needs proper/sufficent cooling heat sinks to prevent over heating and causing memory erros and freezing.
Check this out:
Mac Pro owner notes on using standard FB-Dimms (with added heatsinks) - A reader with a Mac Pro that actually received his earlier Crucial memory order (they were removed from the compatibility list 2 days ago) sent a note that although he had an RMA to return them, he decided to try them after adding some additional (stick-on) VRAM heatsinks. He said after an hour of use he didn't notice any problems (or louder fans) but I asked him to test for several hours and he later wrote Apple System Profiler showed one of the Crucial dimms had 2 ECC ('soft') error corrections:
" DIMM Riser B/DIMM 1:
Size: 1 GB
Type: DDR2 FB-DIMM
Speed: 667 MHz
Status: ECC Errors
ECC Correctable Errors: 2 "
There wasn't an alert on this, he was just monitoring it in ASP while running tests. He later said during stress tests he had another error/correction appear and the system froze once while repeatedly toggling expose. He said he's ordered some other heatsinks to try and is also moving those dimms from the bottom riser card to the top riser (swapping positions with the OEM dimms) to try and reduce heat. I wasn't sure if this was heat related or if that one dimm was suspect, but he later wrote:
" I have begun to wonder about the mac pro design. Why put the memory behind the hot cpu? Should be in front getting cold air blown on it....
Anyhow I repositioned the dimms so the crucial memory is on top and the apple memory on the bottom in hopes of reproducing the ecc error correction. No errors yet and I have been running stuff for a while. I am thinking the top is less hot as the heat flows out the top better. I still think the heatsinks tomorrow will fix for sure but we shall see. No problems so far. This might fix it.
(he later wrote)
Well I ran the mac pro with almost 100% processor utilization and used all the ram the whole time for about 9 hrs straight and no errors. I think moving it to the top slot fixed the heat issue.
(I asked Dave to confirm he has no complaints on fan speed/noise. I hear the Mac Pros are typically very quiet-Mike.)
... No fan speedup at all, ever infact. The dimms work great. It was just errors on that one dimm, but since I moved them nothing. I might have seated it wrong or something because the problem is gone.
-Dave "
I had originally suggested he return the dimms and wait for the 'revised' ones (mentioned in yesterday's Crucial's comments why Mac Pro ram listings were pulled & future plans), but he said he was told they were not going to support the Mac Pro. (I suspect the person he talked to just wasn't aware of their plans on this - but wrote my Micron contact again last night who confirmed the comments on future plans were still valid although the revised heatsink models will likely have higher prices.)
Update: Dave sent a photo of the modified dimm installed in an upper riser board.
If anyone else tries 3rd party FB-Dimms in their Mac Pro (either standard flat heatsink types or larger heatsink types like OWC's Mac Pro memory), let me know your experience.
(BTW - Most all readers with Mac Pros are only using the OEM RAM, but a 3GHz Mac Pro owner wrote he's going to test tonight with some 512MB Kingston (standard heatsink) FB-Dimms and report back. I've had several ram dealers write they've had no problems reported with standard FB-Dimms, although until Dave mentioned monitoring ASP for error corrections, nobody tested while checking that. I assumed from Apple's comments only potentially higher fan speeds would result from using the standard heatsinks, but nobody seems to have noticed any difference in fan speeds regardless so far. I wish Apple would have just used standard dimms...)

I found this while browsing the web. I currently use a similar product on my p.c. call Lojack. Just wanted some feedback from anyone who has tried this product.
http://orbicule.com/undercover/faq.phpI installed this on my son's MacBook, being worried that he may lose/get stolen his computer at college. It installed easily and appears to be well-hidden. Of course, you won't really know if its any good until you need it. I read a review where they reported the laptop as 'stolen' and the software did a good job of showing where the laptop went.

Has anyone used this RAM in there Mac??
Greetings
have just found some RAM that is Mac compatible
Corsair 1Gb DDR2-667 SoDimm for Apple Mac
and am wondering if anyone is/has used it?? Being Corsair I understand this ram to be of very very good quality but have only ever been using Kingston RAM as recommended from Renaissance (New Zealand Supplier for Apple).
Your thoughts and answer will be much appreciated
ThanksYes I added the same 1GB Corsair back in May 2006 to the stock 512MB. Replace the 512MB with the 1GB then put the 512MB in the other slot. Slide them in untill you feel then stop, then give them a hard shove to seat them into there slots. After you have seated both modules close the ejector clips and replace the cover.

That extra 1GB will make a big difference, you'll love it.

Monitor Spanning with macparts.de, anyone tried this?
Gang,
I am looking for a new desktop and I was thinking of a iMac G5 2.0GHz. But I really need 2 monitors and so I saw that this guy has this firmware update that allows multiple monitors on iBooks, iMacs and others.
I can see what he is doing but there is very little information on what can be done, resolution etc... I have a 19" Priceton LCD on my PowerBook I would like to use with the iMac.
Anyone used this? upsides? downsides?
THanks
GordonHi Gordon. I'm encouraged by your post. You clearly know more about this stuff than I do, but I'll try to lay out a couple facts as I know them.
The 'video out' port on the iMac is physically the same as on the 12" Powerbook. Ie. both Mini-DVI to VGA and Mini-DVI to DVI dongles that come with the PB (and neither of which come with the iMac - $20 each) will physically fit into the back of the iMac.
Apple offers the Mini-DVI to VGA adapter as an option for the iMac - same part number and everything.
The video card with Rev. B iMacs is the same card as low-end PowerMacs. Obviously it has software crippling to better-distinguish the two lines. Spanning Doctor should realize it's full potential - which as you say SHOULD be able to push out a DVI image as well as VGA.
My LCD is the same res. as yours (which is a stupid Microsoft-invented resolution that's not even close to 4:3). Some months back (when I was first researching my switch to Mac and before I bought my PB) I saw a page showing a Rev. A iMac spanning to a 17" LCD but they used a VGA-DVI converter because - according to that guy - the iMac could only output to VGA while his LCD was DVI only, so he had to convert. His claim that it's only VGA-out seems to stem from the Apple specs - but then those specs also say it can't span.
What are the conflicts that you've read about? Any specific posts I should read? I keep hoping some experienced Mac geek will come on and tell us that the software's great and it spans beautifully to DVI.
I'm confident that the video card on the Rev. B iMacs will easily push both monitors. My PB with half the VRAM (and a mid-grade 64mb card at that - the nVidia as opposed to the beefier Radeon that the 15" PB comes with that's also 64mb) is sufficient: expose and dashboard and other VRAM intensive tasks are fluid and lovely.
As for PowerMacs, I'd love one, but it is a lot more money. I spend most of my times overseas, so I need a Mac that can be carted around in a suitcase, so the iMacs size/feature ratio is a big bonus for me.
Hate to sound like a parroting prognosticator, but if you're even somewhat in the market for a PowerMac don't buy till after Sept. 20th (Paris Expo) when many believe they'll launch dual-dual PowerMacs.
Any thoughts about the matched-pair debate? I don't think I'd be satisifed with 1gb, 1.5gb is unmattched, and I wonder if 2gb is over-kill. I'm entirely unsure about the whole thing.
Anyway, I'm sad that since I'm selling my PB (with both dongles) I'll have to re-buy both VGA and DVI dongles for the iMac since I plan to also drag the iMac around as the ultimate Keynote Companion (I'm already dreaming of scanning my 'notes' pane on the much-bigger screen than 12" PB). Might look for a cheaper DVI-VGA adapter and just buy the one over-priced Apple adapter.
Keep me posted on what you're thinking!
Thanks,
Alex

The notice reads like I will receive my icloud emails in my icloud AND my me acc'ts. Double the amount of email? Also, I tried to set up the icloud acct in my mac mail preferences and it says the me acct is already set up. Why would I need 2 different email extensions if it's the same acct? This is weird. Has anybody tried this new icloud email?
You can use @icloud.com or @me.com to send and receive emails from. They share the same inbox. You won't get double the mail.
You don't setup an icloud email account in the mail preferences. They are automatically setup in system preferences >> icloud. You can choose which you are sending from when you're composing an email by click the drop down menu beside "from". You can chose the default in mail menu >> preferences >> composing. -
