Anyone tried to install Aperture on older G5/G4?

Has anyone tried to install Aperture on an older PowerMac G5 or PowerMac G4 that **has been upgraded** to a compliant graphics card? If anyone has had success in this regard and has done so on a PowerMac G4, could you also indicate whether or not you're using a processor upgrade?
I know the compatibility checker indicates such installations won't work, but it's important someone actually tries it for real -- maybe someone who has Aperture on a supported machine but also an unsupported one sitting around.

How do you know? And, if you don't own or have access to unsupported hardware or know of a case where someone has failed or succeeded in installing the actual application on unsupported hardware, I have to wonder why you submitted this "answer"; it's not helpful.
Since I made the original post I found, thanks to MacSurfer, a blog in which the author of the blog reported he had succeeded in installing the application on a PowerMac G4 that did not have Core Image support -- a 2003 G4 with "1.4GHz dual processors" (so I assume the 1.42GHz dual Firewire 800 model), and a boring old Radeon 9000 video card. The only requirements he officially met were the 1GB of RAM and 5GB of hard drive space. If this is a) true and b) typical, it means that not only is the application not blocked against certain processors or systems (not too surprising), it is also not blocked against non-Core Image graphics cards (a huge surprise to me).

I'd like to know if this is strictly an accident (or a hack) or if it is indeed widespread. As someone with a 1.2GHz G4 who is considering putting in a 256MB VRAM Radeon 9600, chances are I could run this application quite comfortably if this report is accurate and did not involve a hack.

  • Has anyone managed to install aperture 2 with a 12" G4 laptop?

Mine runs Leopard 10.5.2 with a 1.5 Ghz processor and 1.25GB of memory. The system checker says it's fine but it tells me my graphics card will not work it properly. My graphics card is the GeForce FX Go5200.
Has anyone managed to get it installed, it's blinkin annoying that i cannot load it on this laptop?

I've got it running now on my 12" 1.25 PB with 768Mb of RAM, it took some fiddling but it is running now. On launch it tells me 'The version of ImageIO installed on your computer is not supported by Aperture' but still gives me the option to continue and from there it launches as normal.
It appears that my Nikon D3 files are not supported but earlier cameras like my D200 are fine. My PB is running 10.4.11 btw.
I'm not sure I'm allowed to explain how I got it running here, I've no wish to contravene any forum rules but you can contact me at flateric1 AT mac.com and I can give you my iChat name to talk you through it if you wish.

  • Has anyone tried to install Oracle 11gR2 on Red Hat Linux 6 64bit?

The Oracle Universal Installer is checking for some Red Hat packages which are not the ones in Linux 6. Does anyone know how to resolve this issue?

    Hi;
I'm aware that RHE6 is not certified yet. Someone was able to install it according to this link http://server.billhamilton.com:84/wp/oracle/installing-oracle-11gr2-on-
rhel6-in-4-long-steps/ but I'm not sure on how he got around the packages requirement.
    I suggest see Tim's site

  • Has anyone tried to install Liquid Mix?

I'm having MAJOR problems - initializing memory errors - won't pass the AU Manager validation, just crashes. I hate this, because I really want to try this thing out. I've downloaded the Mac Intel update, but it crashes unless I run it using Rosetta...strange.

  • Has anyone tried to return Aperture to Apple?

Here's a question. For those of you that are unhappy with Aperture, have you called their customer service and asked if you could return it? I've always found Apple to be very reasonable. This would especially go for those who were confused by the inclusion of their cameras on the supported list that don't support their native RAW format?
I saw a post on another forum from an individual that said he called Apple support, explained his situation to them, and they told him to return the item.
    Sounded fair to me.
    Jeff Weinberg

I have an extra 2GB of RAM coming tomorrow. If Aperture continues to quit (crash) on me, then I will be asking for a full refund. If they choose not to refund the cost, then I will put a hold on my Visa charge. A true shame (especially since I bought stock after it split). If people sued Apple over batteries that cost $70 to replace, you can bet they will not hesitate to sue over a $500 piece of software that is obviously critically flawed.
Note to self - never try any first-relase software again.
I hope Apple does not bungle their Intel OS release the same way this app has been.

  • Can't install Aperture 3 from DVD on 10.8.3

I just picked up a new iMac, installed 10.8.3 (updated from 10.8.2 which is what it shipped with) and then popped in a DVD w/Aperture 3.  When opening it said it had to reopen the installer (which is weird), and now when I select a destination disk the HD has a warning symbol with the message "Aperture can't be installed on this disk.  The contents of this disk can't be changed."
    What's going on?

On which drive are you trying to install Aperture? Your system drive or an external drive?
Aperture needs to be installed in the "Applications" folder on your system drive for updates to work. Are you running the installer using an administrator account? Otherwise you may not have the necessary permissions to install Aperture.

  • Install Aperture on MacBook Pro Retina

    Hello,
I just unboxed brand new MacBook Pro 13'' with Retina and trying to install Aperture...
Recent Aperture from AppStore requires 10.8.2
MacBook came with 10.8.1, If I am trying to install OS Mountain Lion (10.8.2) from the store it complains:
"We could not complete your purchase. OS X Mountain Lion is not compatible with this computer."
    What is wrong here!?
    - Dmitry

Apple Menu, Software-Update does the same thing. It's tied to the MAS now.
An advantage with Apple is it doesn't FORCE you to download updates when you don't want it to, then FORCE you again into a sudden reboot with no way to avoid it, costing you to lose so much work and headaches.

  • Installing Aperture without serial

I am trying to install Aperture 1 on my new computer, but I have lost the packaging. How do I install without a SN?

Is the new computer running Mavericks? If so even if you got Aperture 1 running it would not work very well with the new OS.
To upgrade to Aperture 3 will cost you as much if not more then just going to the Mac App Store and buying Aperture 3.5.1, the latest version.
Honestly I can see no advantage to you in trying to get Aperture 1 running if the new system is Mavericks.
    regards
Message was edited by: Frank Caggiano - Actually there probably is no upgrade path from 1 to 3 anymore, you will just need to buy 3.

  • How can I install Aperture on my new Macbook Pro. I am up to date with my Mac Pro, I have the Aperture 1 and installation disks but cant remember how I got to 3. Can anyone help?  Many thanks regards Alf

I have an up to date version of Aperture on my Mac Pro, and I would like to install it on my new Mac book Pro. I have the original installation disks for Aperture 1 and 2. I cant remember how I got to Aperture 3, I think it was via a web download but not sure. I have checked my purchases in the App Store but there is no indication of me buying an upgrade to Aperture 3.
Ive tried to download it from the App Store but it wants me to pay again.
Can anyone help on how to install Aperture 3 on my new Macbook .
    Many thanks regards  Alf

Then you can download the Trial version of Aperture 3 and unlock it with your serial numbers - you will need all three for all three versions: A current link to the Trial version is in this support document, also instructions on how to reinstall on different systems:
Aperture 3.4: May quit unexpectedly on launch after updating
    Regards
    Léonie
BTW: Your Aperture 3 serial number will be displayed in the "About" panel - the panel you see, when you use the command "About Aperture" from the Aperture menu in the main menu bar.

What happened yesterday may have been caused by the SOPA protest action that was joined by a lot of sites yesterday and such an action won't happen that often.

CS3 is unsupported under Windows 8. That said, you'll need to contact Adobe
    directly for serial number issues.
