Anyone understand this strange LR3 side panel behaviour?

In the last couple of days my laptop has developed a piece of strange behaviour related to the side panels.  I'm pretty sure it didn't start when I installed the LR3.5 update, but this may have been a contributing factor.
Until recently I always worked in "solo" mode.  A couple of days ago, LR's behaviour changed so that opening or closing any of the side panels would cause the relevant side (left or right) to become totally unresponsive.  The rest of the program continued to work fine, and the equivalent side panel in other modules continued to work properly until a panel was opened or closed.
In an attempt to understand what was going on, I turned "solo" mode off.  This led to some very interesting behaviour indeed:
If I used the triangle to open or close a side panel, everything worked exactly as expected.
If I clicked on the dark grey bar to open or close a side panel, it became stuck in one of the two states.
When stuck in "open" state, clicking in the grey area simply caused the panel to close and then re-open, very rapidly.
When stuck in "closed" state, something similar happened in that the panel opened and then re-closed, very rapidly.
When in "stuck" state, clicking on the triangle had no effect on the displayed panel but it seemed to toggle the internal state between opened and closed.
Once toggled, clicking on the grey bar opened the panel where it used to close it, and vice versa.
When collapsed, the panel displays as pale grey rather than the more usual dark grey.  See below for an illustration.
I have a desktop machine as well which doesn't show the behaviour.  I've tried reinstalling LR3.5, to no avail.  My guess is that we're dealing with inconsistent panel state information in the "preferences" file, but I don't know for sure.
If anyone knows what is happening, or (more importantly) how to stop it happening, I'd be enormously grateful for some help.
Many thanks in advance,
Ian Wilson

Further investigation yielded yet more interesting behaviour - and, it turns out, a pointer to the problem.
I tried renaming the old "preferences" file, causing LR to create a new one.  The problem was unchanged, apart from losing my registration information...
I tried creating a new, virgin catalogue.  This behaved normally, so I thought I was onto something!
I tried importing a folder of pictures into the new catalogue.  The old behaviour returned.
I created a new virgin catalogue, which reverted to good behaviour.  I then imported one picture into the catalogue.  Behaviour BAD.
I then tried removing the single picture from the catalogue and restarted LR.  Behaviour GOOD!
Conclusion:  Lightroom works just fine for me providing I never put any pictures into my catalogue!!
This got me thinking that, perhaps, the issue was related to the rendering of images.  I tried installing the latest nVidia drivers for my laptop, but this had no effect whatsoever.  Given the issue clearly related to how images are rendered, however, I wondered whether the problem could relate to colour profiles.  BINGO!!  I'd recently upgraded my "i1xtreme" to X-Rite's new "i1publish".  The profiles created with the latest software are ".icm" rather than ".icc", although this shouldn't matter (and doesn't matter to PS and Bridge).  It seems to matter to LR, however, as reverting to my earlier ".icc" profiles made everything work again just fine.
There is obviously a bug somewhere, but it's not clear whether I should be chasing Adobe or X-Rite.  I'd welcome any comments or advice...
Many thanks for the suggestions,
Ian.

Firstly, well done for getting the crash log.
    The bit :
    +Processor context corrupt+
    +Error enabled+
    +Uncorrected error+
    +panic(cpu 3 caller 0x001A8656)...+
I'd say is the immediate cause (kernel panic) of the shutdown.
Apart from that, is your memory ok?

  • Can  anyone understand this and provide a solution

    Hi all,
I am getting the following error messages.Could anyone provide the  solution so that we can transfer the data.
    <b>
No transfer structure is available for InfoSource 0CUSTOMER_TEXT in the source system</b>:
In the source system, there is no transfer structure for infosource  0CUSTOMER_TEXT and hence data transfer terminated.
Procedure:IN AWB,regenerate from this source system, the transfer structure for infosource  0CUSTOMER_TEXT
    <b>Errors in source system</b>

    Hi ,
firstly try to replicate the data sources again for the source system.
This can be done in RSA1->MODELLING->SOURCE SYS->SELECT AND RIGHT CLICK ON UR SOURCE SYS->REPLICATE DATASOURCES.
if you are doing this in Quality or PROD probably the infosource had not got transported correctly.
Ur Data source shud be replicated bfore u transport ur infosouce. if the Datasouce is not present in the systm where we are transporting the Infosouce and absentism of DS leads to no transfer str available.
U can also use RS_TRANSTRU_ACTIVATE_ALL in se38 to activate it.
    Let me knwo the observations.
    Regards,
    Dhanya.

  • Can anyone understand this Console error?

    I get this entry constantly:

Can anyone shed some light on how to stop it or what it is?
    Thanks ... Ken

It looks to me like you are running Quark Express that was originally installed or only designed to run on a PPC Mac. The errors are telling you that you need Intel versions of QXPScriptingAdditions.
This kind of problem can happen when you just do an upgrade from a PPC Mac to an Intel Mac and just transfer your applications and settings.
You may be able to repair the problem by uninstalling Quark (using a program like App Zapper) and reinstalling Quark onto the Intel Mac. Another idea is to run Quark in Rosetta. I guess that would depend on your version of Quark.

  • Has anyone experienced this strange behavior when selecting a region of an image in preview?

When I select a section of an image that has the height and/or width of one pixel, the bounding box does the strange thing pictured to the left (at around 6x mag).  The box starts out the correct dimension on that axis (i.e., 1 px), but tapers down to 0 px by the other end of that line.  Below is an example (at 80x) if a 1 x 2 px box.  Depending on the direction you sweep the mouse when selecting the box can also appear as a single diagonal, horizontal, or vertical line.
Copying and pasting the selection demonstrates that this does not have an effect on the shape of the selection, only on how it is displayed.
I don't suppose that this is anything but a curious little bug with no impact on performance, though it could be confusing to some small subset of users.

Interesting but I do not see this in my Preview/cropping.
    see the annotation:

  • Does ANYONE understand this? I need an expert.

    Here is the scenario:
    1. I recorded 48 minutes of video on a Canon HDC-TM700 HD camera.
    2. I copied the video file (Clip #5.mov) to a Mac Book Pro. The original file size is 50.16GB
    3. Opened the file in Final Cut Pro and Exported the file to QuickTime using the default settings. (File name Dunlap_1.mov) The file size is 563.9MB
I copied Dunlap_1.mov to a PC and tried to play the video. I get an error "The movie file Clip #5.mov cannot be found" Clip #5 is the original video. Why is it looking for Clip #5.mov?
Is Dunlap_1.mov just a project file that points to the original video? 563.9MB seems too small to be a complete .mov file.
    4. I then used compressor to "compress" Dunlap1.mov. The compressed file name is Dunlap_2_final.mov. (File size 2.91 GB)
I cloned the Youtube settings in compressor and reduced the "Geometry" setting to change the frame size from "Up to 1280x72" to "Up to 960x540"
I didn't change any of the other settings.
I moved Dunlap_2_final.mov to a separate PC and it ran fine.
I've attached a screenshot of the "Info" panel for each of the three files. (see below)
    My Questions are:
Is 2.9GB the smallest I can expect to get this 48 minute video clip? I'm satisfied with the size and quality
Are there other settings I should change or is the YouTube clone with the smaller frame size a good selection for me
It took 5 hours to compress this video. That seems like too long.
All of the Final Cut lessons and tutorials that I have found tell you what to do, but none of them tell you WHY? What is the best way to learn the theory behind these video settings. Codecs, bit rates, color profiles, other audio and video settings.
Thank you in advance for any advice you can provide.

    What application are you using?
This is the Final Cut Pro X forum. It looks like you made a reference file from the scratch disk as in an older version of the application. Your question should be posted in the Final Cut Studio forum.

  • Does anyone understand this stuff?

Can someone help me with this. I have been telephoning, messaging and reporting faults for about a month now but I am still having major problems with my broadband speed. My husband have to take turns going on line as if I try to get my emails his vita drops out with a connection error.
Today the fault I logged last week was closed as 'resolved' but there are no comments as to what they done or anything - there is a minor change in the speed but its still too slow to do a speed test and I am just hoping someone here can tell me what I should do next.
The first list was taken before the repair, the second taken this evening - what is 'lose of framing'? also what would cause so many 'Loss of signal'?
i have read though many other posts and tried the suggestions - can not do the http://forumhelp.dyndns.info/speed/speedtester.html as I have no Java and I have also tried messaging the mods but I guess i have to post here 1st

Ps I have already had Openreach round to test the phone line and they have confirmed everything is ok with the line.

i knew you might say that the problem is although the engineer last week did fir me a new main socket that now has a test socket, it right down the end of the hall by the front door and the signal is so  weak that it doesn't reach the rest of the house so no point as won't as we won't be able to use it at all then, plus there is no power socket there for the hub so it means a trailing electricity cable down the hall.
can you get longer lead to the modem or is there a lead you can buy that will able me to connect it closer so I can get a signal.
if not, if I leave it there for a week and don't use it, can I move it back afterwards or will i loose the signal again?
Sorry for the questions but I really want to get a solution to the problem but I think im in catch 22. I also don't understand why this has sundenly gone wrong - was fine upto a  month ago before that started installing infinity in our area.

  • How to understand this strange code?

    Hi,everyone
When I analysing the petstore source code ,I find it very difficult to understand the following code, who can help me?please send email to [email protected]
    thank you!

  • Anyone getting this strange error?

    Hi,
From past 5 days I am getting these errors in the console. My system freezes when the screensaver gets activated and doesn't respond for a long time. Anyone has any idea about this?
12/7/09 8:42:49 AM System Preferences[3384] Couldn't find PictureValueImagePath, trying to resolve the AliasHandle

Yes when I change my screensaver from iPhoto to any other screensaver (apple or otherwise), I don't have any problem. The problem only arises when I use iPhoto to display my family pictures as screensaver!!
I recently purchased Aperture for photo editing, can it be causing this problem?

  • Re: does anyone understand this stuff?

I have a download speed is normaly 74 mbts donload and 20mbts upload
My problem I can not make bt understand is that over the last 3 weeks the wierless speed has gone from 40 mbt anyware in the house to 0mbt most of the day even if I put my lap top under the router.
Bt seem reluctant to say what they have done .
    They treet us like mushrooms.
One of engineees ?? I spoke to said that BT can and do controll the wierless signal signal from the hub and he would loook into that problem ,needless to say I have not haerd back from him.

    Possibly wireless interference?

  • Can anyone understand this?

I have a data entry screen making use of a certain number of comboboxes. On the 4 more powerful computers in my possession, when one of the combobox drop downs 'falls out' of the dialog they are still capable of scrolling via arrows and clicking and the scrollbar itself, basically they are not problematic. However, on the least powerful computer I could find at the time (p200) they DO suffer from the well known bugs common to drop downs outside of their parent dialog. I.e the scrollbar only responds after about 10 clicks and then focus is lost. All systems were on Win98 using JDK1.4. The differences between the computers lie only in speed and memory yet to me, it doesn't make sense as to how I could see this marked difference between combo box operation.
    Any ideas?

I wouldn't call it's operation on a 200Mhz computer slow but it isn't great. The problem with programming on fast computers is that, to the eye, everything takes a similar amount of time, ok perhaps that's an exaggeration but I think you get my meaning. I simply can't tell whether what's perhaps a sloppy piece of code will run poorly or not. I get to a testing stage of the app and find that I have to make certain comprimises on the application's operation. I'm stating the obvious here but I felt like a ramble.
What 'optimizations' do you refer to? Have you ever used Borland's code optimizer thingy doo-da. That was its development codename by the way. :)

  • Can anyone explain this? ORA-01722

    Hi all,
    Can anyone understand this?
I have 3 database servers both running on windows 2000 advanced server, they're used by the development team. Also we have our production database.
The 3 databases are cloned from the production, so database configuration parameters are all equal. Today I've received a query from the development team to run on the production, the query is just simple like this:
    SELECT *
    FROM x
    WHERE x.field_v = 177762522
    I get this error
    ORA-01722: invalid number
this is a hudge table, and the fiedl_v is a varchar2(9) type.
The worst thing is that on the others 3 databases this query returns results, except on the production.
So, can anyone explain me why does the implicit (char to number) conversion occours on the development databases , and fails on the production? What are the main reasons that can influence datatype conversion like this one?
Both databases have the 9.0.6 patch.
The 3 development BD's are totally cloned from the production.
    Thanks.

    William:
There is no guarantee on the order of evaluation of the predicates. Even with your isnum function, the invalid number could arise. The only safe way is to compare strings to strings as in your first example.
To make the isnum "safe", you would need something more like:
    SELECT *
    FROM (SELECT *
          FROM x
          WHERE isnum(x.field_v) = 'Y' and
                ROWNUM > 0)
WHERE x.field_v = 177762522;The ROWNUM > 0 predicate in the in-line view will prevent predicate pushing and guarantee that the isnum condition is evaluated first.

  • Has anyone seen this behaviour of AccessHW In Port?

Yesterday I was trying to check the operation of a plug-in PCMCIA parallel port, specifically I wanted to know if there were any timing issues with this device on an XP machine, so I thought I would try the AccessHW In and Out functions in Labview. I installed an old copy of Labview 6.1 (It was 5:50PM and I wanted to do this fast!) and tried it.
Reading the memory location where the device's status port was supposed to be just returned zero. Strange, I thought, so I tried some other addresses in the I/O range. I got zero from every single one. I tried the same on my own laptop, which is also XP, and I was getting sensible numbers from addresses in I/O space.
Has anyone seen this behaviour? The machine has McAffee on-access protection running, which cannot be disabled (company IT policy), and I have a suspicion that this might be blocking accesses to low memory, is this possible?

Sorry... my mind is not working well this morning   You had mentionned that in your original post and the fact that it is a PCMCIA parallel port.
As for the address location, I have seen addresses in the 0x2000 region for add-on parallel ports (not PCMCIA).
I haven't used a PMCIA device with Win-XP.  Does the address info for that port appear under properties when you look at the HW devices within the Control Panel's System.  From what I can recall, you can change the PCMCIA serial port number within the HW device, so maybe the properties will list the address..
    Have you checked this?

Strange System Font in Dreamweaver.  After I installed Dreamweaver CS4 on my Mac, it loaded this strange font as seen in the photo attached.  Anyone know how to fix this?  I have uninstalled/reinstalled many times to no avail.  There are no other problems with w/ other CS4 programs, they all have the normal system font.  I can't figure it out.  Thanks!

Is there anyone there? I hope there is someone who can you understand this problem and have the common sense to respond?
I open gmail. I want to save an email to one of my folders.
I position my cursor over the appropriate Folder icon or by choice, to the Trash.
The friendly finger pointing cursor icon changes to an arrow icon.
The hand icon allows me flawless access to opening and/or moving emails.
The arrow, however does not open the link.
On the Google menu bar the cursor hand with finger opens the links to Everett (my name), Search, Images, Maps and Play.
When I attempt to open the remaining links in the menu bar (YouTube, News, Gmail, Drive, Calendar and More) the arrow icon replaces the hand. The arrow icon does not work. It will not activate these links.  Nor does it open email messages in the Inbox.
Usually I reset, even reboot Safire and sometimes the problem goes away, then reappears.
Can you imagine if this condition should it happen to a tech savvy Google Support person? Perhaps one can share and make my problem go away.
I am considering dropping Google as my mail source. Unfortunate!

I have uninstalled my Access Connection, but this problem seems to persist. IBM technician have changed the wireless card of my T60, the first few days after it was changed was very fine, no problem at all. About a week later, the problem occured again, and it happened quite frequently after that occurence. Now i really have no idea what is the cause and how to solve it. Will be greatful if there is anyone that can help me.
