Anyone using 3DSMAX via BootCamp or Fusion/Parallels?

Just about ready to convert our computers (10 PC's) to MACs, and we use 3DSMAX, Does anyone have success using 3DSMAX with virtualization software and or bootcamp?

I take it that is a Windows application, so perhaps you should post this question in the Windows Compatibility forum. This forum is not the proper one for your question. You might also post a question with the developer of the program's tech support.

There are very specific requirements for using an iMac as an external display.
From Target Display Mode: Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) - Apple Support
What are the requirements for TDM?
A Mac notebook or desktop with a Mini DisplayPort or Thunderbolt connection
A Thunderbolt or Mini DisplayPort cable
A supported iMac with OS X 10.6.1 or later. The table below shows iMac computers that support TDM, the required cables, and the port of the computer to which you are connecting the iMac.

Note that the iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, Late 2014) does not support Target Display Mode.

  • Can I play games on my MacBook Pro by using an external graphics card and using windows via a software called "Parallels Desktop" or do I have to use Boot Camp (I have both installed)

Can I use Windows Parallel to play games? I mean will it not get enough power? Like I clearly remember that I read some where one my system that the Paralels is getting only 1 GB of my ram. I have the mid 2012 MacBook Pro, the $1500 one.

You shouldn't use Parallels to pay games. If you want to play games you need to install Windows via Bootcamp so that it has access to all the resources available.

  • Win7x64 -vs- Win7x86 via Bootcamp and/or Parallels 4 on MBA?

Is there any reason to go with Win7x64 over Win7x98 on a MacBook Air running via Parallels v4 or Bootcamp? Obviously, the Win7 VM will never see more than a gigabyte of RAM, and never see more than 2GB running via Bootcamp. Of course, the MBA RAM is non-upgradable so this limitation will never change on my system. Is there any compelling reason to go with a 64 bit Windows version instead of the 32 bit version (when RAM is taken out of the equation)?
    Thanks,
    Dave

    Hi Dave,
when RAM is taken out of the equation the neccessity for a 64-bit Windows is near to null.
Only if the applications you wanna run do need 64-bit Windows (like some 3D-Renderer) it is needed.
For a MBA I would always propose a 32-bit Windows, whether with Parallels/Fusion or with BootCamp.

  • How to run WinXP Pro on iMac using both Boot Camp and Fusion/Parallels

I have read on various forums that there is a specific order in which you need to install Windows XP on an Intel-based Mac (mine is a new iMac running Leopard), so you can run it natively with Boot Camp and simultaneously with OS X 10.5 using a third-party program such as VMWare Fusion or Parallels.
Does anyone know the installation procedure/order in which to install VMWare (or Parallels) and XP (I bought a standalone copy of XP Pro), so that I can also run XP Pro natively using Boot Camp?
I have been using Parallels for a year, but am thinking about switching to Fusion. Any thoughts on which one is preferred would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

I am using Fusion 2.1 on a MacPro Duo. Installed it after creating a boot camp partition.
Follow the instructions with fusion for multiple options. I boot into WXP Pro to use multi-monitors for work-related stuff on a corp. network. Otherwise, I use a virtual machine using the bootcamp partition to run both OS's simultaneously. Fusion is great (USB support, firewire, etc.) but does not yet support multi-monitors. Be sure to install boot camp drivers off of the Leopard DVD on the boot camp WXP machine AND on each/all virtual machines.......then everything works great!
Before you set all of this up, decide how large you want your boot camp partition to be. Once you create it, you cannot change it (and the virtual machine off of boot camp either). I have grown into another hard drive and have to start over from scratch rebuilding my corporate windows machines!

  • Anyone using Dolipo via Polipo Proxy to supercharge Safari 4 beta?

Hi all, i just tried the procedure found here for speeding up Safari:
    http://www.scribd.com/doc/12964020/Make-Safari-Run-Lig
I could not disable the Safari cache per the instructions, but even without that there is a perceptible speed difference on my slow broadband, and it seems stable. However, I do have questions:
    * is this safe and secure? i really don't understand the security implications of running everything thru a proxy, so I have not done anything securely yet. Is there anything to worry about here?
    * can anyone verify if the tut is correct, is this the right command for disabling the safari cache: defaults write "com.apple.Safari" WebKitPageCacheSizePreferenceKey -integer 0
    Well, thx for your input!!!

Also have installed Vidalia on a test machine with Dolipo and that's all working, but from the project descriptions I can't really figure out what it's all doing, which is leaving me feeling uncomfortable before deploying elsewhere. Does anyone here understand proxy server use in this scenario?!?
I am seeing a performance increase across the web access board in all browser, so I would like to deploy on other machines here since our broadband is so pathetic.

  • Imac finder slow to start - time incorrect after using windows via bootcamp

Everything works fine on my imac except for the following annoying thing that I would like to understand.
After using bootcamp to use windows xp (that also works fine), after I reboot back into Macosx, "sometimes" the finder is noticeably relatively very slow to start (builds the finder window bit by bit) and 'always" the time has been set incorrectly even though I think I have set the windows date and time settings correctly. I use a product available from the macosx downloads called 'cocktail" to maintain the mac - this seems to ok. Both leopard and windows always start - windows has crashed once over the last 6mths or so - macosx never.
The time will reset after I use the date and time pref and toggle the auto update.
Otherwise the imac seems nice and healthy with no hangs or problems - even time machine is working fine. I am generally very impressed.

  • Can i install windows 7 via bootcamp (MB Air) while using remote disc? I put the windows 7 disk in my macbook pro drive, and connect to my brand new macbook air. In bootcamp i allocate the partition then i click install and bootcamp will not see the disk.

Can i install windows 7 via bootcamp (on my MB Air) while using remote disc? I put the windows 7 disk in my macbook pro drive, and connect to my brand new macbook air via remote disk. In bootcamp (on my air) i allocate the partition, then i click install, and bootcamp will not see the disk from my macbook pro's drive. How do i get the bootcamp assistant running on my MB air to automatically find the disk in my macbook pro with the ISO image of windows 7? The remote disk on my air can find the cd but bootcamp will not begin installing it. Anyway to do this without buying the damned usb drive?

I don't know first hand if you can use the Remote Disk option with Windows but as of 10.7.2 you can now use BCAssistant to make a bootable USB (thumb drive or external disk) W7 installer with the Boot Camp drivers installed also. Have you tried that yet?

  • Using MS Access 2010 on Windows via Bootcamp

Using MS Access 2010 on Windows via Bootcamp
I am wanting to do an online course which uses MS Access 2010. I am using an Apple Mac and thought I could use Bootcamp to set up a Windows partition to use the software.
My query is once I have created a database with MS Access 2010 in Windows on my mac, is the database essentially useless for my future mac work?
    Hope someone can help

I do think converting will end up being complicating. Do you know what Office for Mac is like, is it similar to MS Access? If so, I could do the course using MS Access and then buy Office for Mac and teach myself how to create databases using office.
As I mentioned there is no Access for Mac.  Microsoft never made one. Office for Mac includes Word, Excel, Powerpoint (and Outlook for the Business edition.)  And even these are missing some features of their Windows versions.  (e.g.: Excel macros often don't work on the Mac version of Excel.)
You can bring over your general knowlege of database programming (e.g.: relationships, joins, normalizing,) to any database product such as MSSQL, MySQL, Oracle Database, Filemaker, Alpha5, OpenOffice, etc.  But none of those other database products will open a database file made in Access.  (Or rather, may have very limited ability to open very simple databases, but you'll probably lose the relationship links.)  So your Access training won't be a total loss, but you'll need to learn the specifics of whatever database product you eventually use.

  • Has anyone used SFTP/ssh via any process in OWB?

Has anyone used SFTP/ssh via any process in OWB?
We need to SFTP a file from an SFTP server(unix) to our OWB environement.

You can use the FTP operator in a process flow. Configure it as such -
    Command - /usr/bin/sftp
    Parameter_List - ?${Remote.User}@${Remote.Host}?
    Script -
    lcd ${Working.RootPath}
    cd ${Remote.RootPath}
    get myfile
    bye
You have to configure the operator to define remote and working locations.
There is another example for this in the documentation -
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/warehouse/casestudies/10gr2/ftpprocessflow/ftp_linux_to_winxp.html
I personally prefer scp to sftp as in my experience OWB handles errors better with it.

  • I just used "Erase" via "Find my phone" to erase and rest my MBP. It's caused my MBP to be locked. I entered correct 4 digit PIN and it seemed to accept it, but it won't allow use of the internal drive. Yosemite loaded. Anyone else had same problem?

    Greetings Fraser Alexander,
Erasing your Mac shouldn't harm your internal hard drive but erasing does clear Yosemite and everything else off of it.  Are you not able to restore it with your Time Machine backup?
    iCloud: Erase your device
If you erase then find your Mac, you can restore the information on the Mac using a Time Machine backup. For more information, see the Apple Support article Recover your entire system. If you set an EFI firmware password on your Mac before it was lost, then erase it and later find it, you may need to take your Mac to an authorized repair center to unlock it before you can use it again.

    Take care,

  • I have a late 2009 iMac, with a Nvidia 9400 Graphics card.  I was wondering what my options are for upgrading.  I use Windows 7 via Bootcamp, so I need a card that is compatible.

I have a late 2009 iMac, with the default Nvidia 9400 Graphics card.
I was wondering what my options are for upgrading.  I use Windows 7 via Bootcamp, so I need a card that is compatible/has available drivers.
This is for gaming. On the lowest settings of "Call of Duty 4", I get about 100 FPS... Was hoping to be able to play on higher resolution w/o the fps lag.
I'm not good with the hardware part of computers at all, but know how to get around the OS.

In most cases the graphics cards in iMacs are Not upgradeable.  They are usually soldered to the logic board.  RAM is considered, along with harddrives, the only component that is upgradeable in an iMac, unlike in PC's.  So basically you would need to sell your unit and purchase an iMac with a more powerful graphics card.
    Hope this helps

  • Apple Wireless Keyboard is lagging and disconnecting when using Macbook Pro via Bootcamp

    Hey guys,
I am using my Macbook Pro (I think from 2009) with an external monitor and the apple wireless keyboard (connection via Bluetooth).
First when I set up Bootcamp everything worked fine. But now suddenly the keyboard is lagging (letters sometimes appear after a few seconds or get stuck and typed 20 times or something) and randomly completely disconnecting.
I already downloaded the newest drivers for Boot Camp 64bit from the apple website, but this didnt solve my problem.
I tried disconnecting the keyboard on mac and then reconnecting on the Windows 7 partition again. Also didn't work.
Of course I had to reconnect the keyboard when on the mac.
But it's not that it's not working. I'm using the keyboard via Bootcamp right now. It's just that it's randomly doing this...
Now I don't know what to do. Do some of you have the same issues or have any ideas that might help?
