Anyone using a canon pixma pro 9000 MKII with their imac?

I'm curious as to your opinion/satisfaction with this combo.

Adam,
Sorry for the delay. Been trying to get a copy of 6.x to check but it seems to have been borrowed and not returned. So I'm not sure about the ppd being in the correct place. With v7.x, the PPD Manager looks in /Library/Printers/PPDs/Contents/Resources/en.lproj as a default and also has the auxillary option so that you can browse to a different folder.
However, talking to some of my colleagues it seems that the ppd contains no colour management information as the printer is not a postscript device. It is purely for paper support and the print dialog extensions. So the addition of the ppd into Quark doesn't improve the print quality, it simply makes some installations of Quark happier with the ppd field filled.
Note that with v7.1, even after copying the ppd into the correct folder, after selecting the Pro9000 as the printer, you cannot change the PPD menu - it is disabled.

  • Printing Issuse From Lightroom 4 To Canon Pixma Pro 9000 MK II

I have been trying to print from Lightroom 4 to a Canon Pixma Pro 9000 MK II.   Whenever I try to print via the front try (for canvas) I get an error message (code 1281) and I cannot print.   I have tried a few different papers as well as canvas and all of them give the same error code.
I have also tried printing from Elements 9 with the same problem.
I can print via the front try using Canon's own software, Easy Print Pro, but I cannot soft proof the image first and I cannot the the correct size of image either.
Does anyone have any idea how I can get round this problem?
I have spoken to Canon and they have passed the buck saying that as I can print using thier software it is an Adobe issue.
Printer: Canon Pixma Pro 9000 MKII
    Software: Adobe Lightroom 4
    Operating System: Lion OSX

The final answer was as per Rikk Flohr's instructions,
    Lightroom>Print Module
Print Settings button Bottom Left-hand Panel
Set the Center Pull-down to Quality and Media
    Paper Source: Front Tray
I was having difficulty finding these previously, thanks Rikk.

  • Managing Color with LR and the Canon Pixma Pro 9000 10.1.2.0 printer driver

I would like help understanding how to manage color in LIghtroom with the Canon Pro 9000 10.1.2.0 printer driver. When I ask LR to manage color in the Printing Module Color Management Profile, it warns me to turn off the printer managing color. But I cannot find where to do this in the driver.
The Color Options menu in the driver gives an additional choice for "Color Mode", but there are no choices here except "Standard", "Linear" or "Tone". The only Canon documentation I can find shows a choice to turn off printer management here, but this driver doesn't give me that choice.
If I look in the driver's "Color Matching", I see only two choices: ColorSync or Vendor Matching. ColorSync brings up Canon profiles like "Pro9000 Fine Art Photo Rag", but selecting one of these gives a warning of unexpected results. This pushes me back to Vendor Matching. But is this turning off the printer driver and leaving it to Lightroom?
Right now, I am getting the best results from choosing "Managed by Printer" in LR's Color Management Profile, and setting "Color Matching" in the Canon driver to "Vendor Matching". If I instead choose one of the Canon profiles in LR's Color Management Profile (and it tells me to turn off the printer managing, which I cannot do), then my prints have a slightly bluer color cast.
Is there a way to turn off the printer managing color in this driver and turn this over to LR, or am I getting the best results possible with the printer managing color anyway?
I am using a 2.4 GHz Intel iMac with OS 10.5.4, 2 gigs SDRAM, standard ATI Radeon HD 2600 Pro video card. I downloaded the Canon printer driver from their website, so I assume this is the latest. there is another driver available at their website, but for a lower bit depth. Should I abandon the 10.1.2.0 for this other one? I work with Nikon D300 NEFs, and I assumed the higher bit depth printer driver will work better with these images.
Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Dear DYP: Unfortunately, those choices are not available in the 10.1.2.0 Canon Printer driver. There are only 2 radio buttons, ColorSync and Vendor Matching. ColorSync then provides a drop-down menu, with no choice for turning off the printer driver.
But I think I found the answer. I found a deeply buried FAQ on the Canon site (no direct URL; sorry!) Here it says:
"Issue: How do I disable the printer driver color correction when using the CUPS driver in Mac OS X 10.5.x?
Solution: Change color management options for printing (Mac OS X 10.5.x)
Change color management options for printing
Open the document you wish to print.
Click 'File' and then click 'Print.'
Note: If the Print window contains only two pop-up menus, click the triangle beside the Printer pop-up menu for expanded options.
Select 'Color Matching' from the Print Options pop-up menu.
Select 'ColorSync' if you want the application you are using, and not the printer driver, to control the color management of the printed output.
Note: If you are using Adobe Photoshop CS2 or CS3 and have selected 'Let Photoshop Determine Colors', the 'Color Matching' from the Print Options pop-up menu is automatically set to 'ColorSync.'
Select 'Vendor Matching' if you want the printer driver to control the color management of the printed output."
I tried it, and chose "Automatic" as a choice in ColorSync. The choices under "Color Options" are then greyed out, implying that the Canon driver is now turned off.
The prints came out great, with no color cast, and a little brighter than the printer managed prints.
So, Vendor Managed means printer manages, ColorSync means LR manages.
Thanks, everyone, for keeping me going on tracking this down!

  • New Canon Pixma Pro-100 printing with streaks on backgrounds

Hello.  I just purchased the printer last week.  I'm operating on a MacBook Air.  I typically use LightRoom and Photoshop.
I'm a professional photographer and recently look a class at ICP and learned how to print there.  I was shocked at how beautiful the prints were.  This was using an Epson in a classroom.
I did my research and talked to other photographers and decided the Pro-100 would be perfect for me, and so far, it is.
I've had trouble with magenta casts when using LightRoom.  Switched to PhotoShop and got better results.  But some prints, especially those with a simple, plain background, faint lines appear across the page.
Here's an example.  The lines appear top to bottom every 1/4 inch or so:

  • Anyone using an HP LaserJet Pro CP1525nw printer with SL?

I'm thinking of getting this printer. Can anyone using this with Snow Leopard please let me know how well it works? Any issues? Nice printer? I will be replacing a Samsung CLP-315 which prints very nicely, but doesn't work well after updating from Tiger to SL.
    Thanks

It works just fine.  I picked up a 1525 yesterday, configured it using Lion, and I just now configured my wife's SL laptop to work with it.  No problems.  Just don't install the HP disk and let OS-X grab drivers for it and you should be fine.
It's a little tricky configuring with Lion for wireless printing, but it's doable.  See my post at https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3449512 for a checklist.

  • Canon Pixma Pro 9000 printer will not print for Lightroom 2.3 or Photoshop CS4

When I hit the print button on either Lightroom or Photoshop CS4 to print using the "front tray", the printer sends a message to lower the tray for the back tray.  The Canon tech rep stated that when I  hit the Print button on Lightroom or Photoshop there should be "drop down window" which allows me to choose the "front tray".  Until I do this, the printer assumes that I am still using the back tray.  My question - why doesn't my Lightroom or Photoshop programs display this "drop down window" when I press the "print" button??  Please!! Can anyone help me??

After so many attempts, I don't remember what the display was when I first requested for help.  I just trying everything that I
    could think of.
I don't think that I downloaded the right Driver the first time.  As a last resort, I downloaded the Driver again from Canon and to my surprise, another menu appeared.  It was different from the previous ones and rather confusing.  The Canon tech had described what I should bd looking for and so I proceeded ahead one drop menu after another and finally the right menu appeared giving me the choice between the automatic back tray and the front tray.  After I clicked on the front tray, everything worked fine.
Thanks, Was DYP, for taking time to attempt to help me.  It's my opinion that Canon's documentation was not complete and therefore created some confusion.

  • Red Color Cast when printing with Canon Pixma Pro 9000

My printer is giving me a horrible red color cast after the latest software update. The color cast can also be seen in Preview and in the print window. No changes to drivers have been made. Printer worked fine before the update.
Has anyone else found this problem and offered a solution?

    You may find it helpful.
Thanks, but if you look in the archives of the Apple ColorSync Users List, you'll find thousands of posts from his Mac dating back to the beginning of the List.
The principle is that you configure your device colour spaces to the largest gamut of which they are capable, calibrate them to a stable condition, characterise that condition in a measured test chart, and build ICC device profiles for those characterisations in your ICC profiling package of choice.
You then capture and correct colour with correct colour previews, resulting in normalised exposures in an ideal CIE colour space. With you normalised exposures, you convert into output condition 1, output condition 2, output condition n which is what repurposing is about.
But you do no apply a gamma change on top of the colour managed rendering. That is incorrect by definition. You apply your gamma change as part of the colour correction in order to get your normalised exposure.
If you imagine this in a prepress process, then you can forget the concept of determinate rendering which is the bedrock of the ICC architecture. If you as photographer do a gamma correction on top of your presentation print or proof print, then you can claim that you have a presentation print, but you cannot contractually claim that you have a proof print as your proof print is a colour correction on top of the colour management system. If Apple Aperture allows the user access to colour correction on top of colour management, then that is a bug in the application. Sorry ...

  • Compatibility with Canon Easy PhotoPrint Pro - Pixma Pro 9000

    Hi,
I have just downloaded and installed the trial version of Photoshop CS5, only to discover that in the Automate (Under Files) option, Canon's Easy PhotoPrint Pro is no longer listed.
I would be interested to know whether this is a Canon, or an Adobe problem
I found that with Photoshop CS3, this method of printing, provided most accurate colours
I would be interested in other subscribers, who print with the Canon Pixma Pro 9000, how they get best results from their printer - What options do you select in the print dialogue box, etc.

This sounds like a question about  general Photoshop CS5 use. This forum is specifically for people using the Photoshop CS5 FXG feature with Flash Catalyst.
I recommend you post this question to one of  the more general Photoshop forums:
    http://forums.adobe.com/community/photoshop
Your question will get much wider exposure there, and you are more likely to get an answer from the Photoshop community.

  • Snow leopard and Canon pixma pro drivers, which one is it recognizing?

I have a new MacBook Pro. I print with Canon Pixma Pro 9000 and 9500.
My question is regarding the print drivers.
I plug both Pixma pros in and the computer recognizes them.
However, I also downloaded the latest print drivers for the two print drivers off the Canon website.
Which printer driver is the computer using? The one that somehow comes with the computer or the one I downloaded from Canon.
Or does it matter? My concern is that I want the paper profiles to be correct.

Can anyone positivly confirm that they have got this printer to work with 10.5.6? I have downlaosed latest drivers from Canon and Apple (on the apple list is says Canon Pro9000 Series II but omits the word PIXMA - and when I get this into the PRINT USING box on add printer and hit 'Add' nothing happens.
We have the Pro 9500 II that we use for proofing and I've got it on a 10.6.5 Mac and it's using the v10.36.2.0 driver that it downloaded from Apple when I connected it.
If your Mac does not see or let you add the printer after manually browsing to it then something is amiss with your Mac. I suggest you try a reset of the printing system using the following procedure.
    1. Unplug the Pro9000 USB cable from the Mac
    2. Open System Preferences > Print & Fax
    3. Move your mouse over the Printers list
    4. Hold down the Control button and click the mouse
    5. Click the "Reset printing system ..." popup
    6. Restart your Mac
    7. Reconnect the Pro9000 USB cable to the Mac
The Mac should automatically add the printer to the Print & Fax pane, assuming the printer is being seen by the Mac - and you are definitely connecting the USB cable of the Pro9000 directly to the Mac.
If the Mac does not add the printer automatically then open System Profiler (Applications > Utilities) and select the USB entry under Hardware in the left pane. The right pane will then show all the USB busses on the Mac. The printer should be shown connected to one of these busses. If it is not shown then try another USB cable and another USB socket on the Mac.

  • Photoshop Elenents 13 does not recognize my Canon Pixma Pro Mark II 9000 printer.

Photoshop Elements 13 does not recognize my Canon Pixma Pro Mark II 9000 printer.  I get the following error message “The saved printer information is not compatible with this version of Photoshop Elements, or the saved printer is no longer available. You will need to check your printer settings before printing” and I cannot print.

I have been checking my computer files and find that PSE 13 is only the 32 bit system and my computer is a 64 bit system.  In PSE 12 I was able to take the Adobe
Twain Driver (Twain 32 bit} in to the Optional Plug-in folder and then my Canon Scanner would work with PSE 12.  My printer Canon Pixma Mark II 9000 worked with PSE 12.  Now that I have upgraded to PSE 13 neither the scanner or my printer will work.  There I no “Optional Plug-in Folder” in PSE 13.  Is there some way that I can drag files into PSE 13 that will enable both my scanner and printer to work?  My scanner is a Canon Canoscan 8800.
Or must I go back to using PSE 12.

  • Print quality on OS X 10.6 + Illustrator CS5 + Canon Pro 9000 MKII

    Hi!
Printing from Illustrator on iMac on our Canon Pro 9000 MKII produces ugly low resolution jagged edges on curved shapes. Same file printed on the same printer from Illustrator on Windows results in (almost) perfectly smooth edges. I understand that this has something to do with the fact that Pro 9000 II not beeing a Postscript printer. Are there any solutions to this problem, so I can print smooth curves direct from Illustrator on Mac? I don't want to have to go through any extra steps every time I print, like saving to PDF.
    Thanks!

  • I want to use my canon pixma ip4500 as my printer with my good ole G4.  I need a driver.  Is there an easy  way to get that or is my G4 too old?

I want to use my canon pixma ip4500 as my printer with my powerbook G4.  I need a driver but was very confused with how to get one.  Is it possible and could someone come down to my level and tell me step by step how to do it?  Many thanks.

Nope, your PB is not too old.
Here is the link to the PIXMA ip4500 drivers on Canon's site:
    Drivers & Software
The page has you first select your version of the Mac OS (10.4) from the pull-down "Chose Operating System" menu. Once selected, you'll see the available software, Click on the arrown next to "Drivers" and it should look like this:
(click image to enlarge if needed)
Click the word "Download " and you'll get the driver.
Note at the top of that image there are other links to other documents pertaining to this printer. If you click on "Brochures and Manuals," while you are on that web page, you'll have Canon's instructions, probably better done than by anyone here other than someone who has the same printer model on a Mac running OS 10.4.
