Anyone using a Labview solution to perform SDLC communications?

Need to take data from a variety of test equipment that are putting out a simplified form of the IBM Synchronous Data Link Control (SDLC) message structure. The device will basically be in "broadcast" mode with address and control data absent from the message structure. Data rate is low (at 400Hz), but clock bit rate is high and will need to be programmable (1.0152 MHz). Any help or suggestions for using 3rd party hardware such as FastCom, SeaLevel with Labview, or even better, a NI hardware solution would be greatly appreciated.

Pethel;
I'm not familiar with that protocol in particular, but if the data signal is TTL type, you can probably use the PCI-6534 board; which can go up to 80M Bytes/sec; and program in Software the details of the protocol.
Visit www.ni.com to get more details about that board.
Hope this helps.

  • Anyone use Aftermarket Cooling Solutions on 270x or 280x?

Anyone who uses an aftermarket cooler on a 270x or 280x MSI Gaming gpu please chime in.
What make and model cooler are you using? What is the model and revision of your gpu? I am seeking coolers for both my 270x's and 280x's as the stock fans are of poor quality and have a high failure rate. 3 out of 4 of my cards have fan issues.
This is not such a simple thing to just google of course.
Those of us who know anything about aftermarket cooling know that not every GPU is made the same. Even different revisions of the same model can be drastically different when it comes to compatibility for aftermarket cooling solutions. A simple change on the gpu could mean one revision works and the next does not. I've run into this before with another brands gpu and aftermarket cooling.
Asking MSI Tech Support to recommend aftermarket cooling is not going to get any results as they will not assist a user in a process that may void warranty. Nor does MSI test their cards with other manufacturers cooling solutions.
That being said I am asking users what solutions they may have found already.
I have also contacted several aftermarket cooling manufacturers and they all say the same thing. Basically: "We can't confirm or deny compatibility as we cannot test every make/model/revision".
So MSI fans and devoted users. What have you been using?
    Thanks much!

The Arctic Mono Plus officially supports R9 270X and should also fit the MSI cards. It's plenty cooling for those cards. Alternatively Accelero Twin Turbo II could be used.
280X would work fine with Accelero Xtreme III or Alpenfoehn Peter

  • Correct use of LabVIEW 8 with Visual Source Safe

I have LabVIEW 8.0 and Microsoft Visual Source Safe 6 (VSS) installed and was looking for help with the correct way to integrate the two environments.  This will be used in a team environment and code modules will be shared between team members.  I have used and understand the new project manager with it's virtual directory structure.  I have also used and understand VSS and its abilities to share and branch vis or project folders.
When you share an item in VSS, the vi is available for use in both projects and physically resides in both projects within your working directory.  If I were just using VSS, this is the method I would use (and what is recommended in the VSS documentation).  This way an entire project contains all the files and can be retrieved all at once.
When you use the LabVIEW 8 project manager, it appears that the intent is to only have the code in one location and share it through virtual folders.  This makes sense and works fine until LabVIEW 8 and VSS are both used.  LabVIEW 8 can handle check in/out and adding files to VSS.  A LabVIEW project can even use vis that belong to other LabVIEW projects and other VSS projects.
My concern with all this is what happens when a team member wants to bring down code to their working directory or rebuilding my own working directory.  LabVIEW's project manager does not appear to provide a direct view to the VSS database.  I can go into VSS and pull down a LabVIEW project file (lvproj file only) and open it up.  All appears to be fine and all VSS information is intact.  What is not there is any indication of which files actually exist in my working directory or any way to perform a "bulk" retrieval of all the files required in my project.  If all the files reside in a virtual directory, I don't even know where to go get them from.  One solution could be to follow the VSS style and ensure everything is native to a project or at least shared with a project (within VSS).  This may be cumbersome and would not follow the LabVIEW project philosophy.  I may also miss something since LabVIEW "remembers" where stuff is for you.  Following the LabVIEW project method could make it difficult to bring a project back to life and also has the potential to leave some vis out of source code control (sub vis don't have to belong to a LabVIEW project).
Does anyone have thoughts on this subject?  What is the most efficient way to ensure that all project items are in source code control and that all projects are retrievable and functional?
    Thanks,
    Greg Cloutier

    Greg,
I'm not a VSS guru but I do know that currently there is no automatic functionality for checking in\out a project and all associated files from LabVIEW.
As for finding the location of the vis that have been checked out, LabVIEW can display the full path of a vi from the project explorer. If you right click on a vi and then select properties, the General category will show the full path.
There are a number of papers that do relate to using SCC with LabVIEW 8. check out Using Source Control Software with LabVIEW and that will link you to other documents as well.

  • Has anyone used a USB device server with a DAQmx or NI-VISA USB device?

    Hi,
I have an application where I need to communicate with USB devices (some through DAQmx, others through NI-VISA) that will be more than 15 feet away from the controlling PC.  I could use USB-ethernet-USB dongles, but I also see that there are USB-over-ethernet device servers available (like this one: http://www.usbgear.com/computer_cable_details.cfm?sku=USBNET-400&cats=104&catid=187%2C188%2C104%2C65...).  Has anyone used these or similar USB device servers successfully with LabVIEW?

  • How do I use a Labview Enum as a Variable Parameter for Teststant

I have a Labview VI that performs a relay setup based on a Port selection that is an Enumerated  Type Def. The Control comes in as a drop dwon box in test stand. The question is how can I use that same dropdown as a variable to pass into a subsequence. I am not sure how to get it to show up as a custom  Type in test stand. I am using Labview 8.2 and Test Stand 4.0
    Thanks,

As of TestStand 2010 there is not a way to natively create enums in TS.  A quick google or bing search using "TestStand Enum" should reveal all those who have tried before you.  I believe that in the Ideas Exchange there is already a note to have TS do this and I'm positive the TS developers are aware...
In answer to your question you will have to save it as a numeric and pass it down to the sequence.  Or I kinda like this idea:

  • Anyone Used X-Bench on new iMac?

    Hello all,
Anyone used X-Bench on the new 2.8 24" iMac? Mine has just been dleivered to my grans and am picking it up in a bit. Got a 24" now and was wondering how it was performing.
    Ryan

In fact, yes, there have been some tests done by Other World Computing. Bottom line: the 2.8 GHz iMac beats the others. Looks like the performance scales equally between the 2.0, 2.4, and 2.8 GHz models.

    Hi, oldcrow13.
Thank you for the response.  Typically this error is caused by installing an older verison of iTunes than you had prior.  When you installed iTunes did you download the program directly from iTunes.com, or did you use an older copy of the program on your computer?  If you used an older version or are unsure, uninstall all the components one more time and download a new copy of iTunes via the link below.

  • Anyone using a 4K monitor with FCP X?

Is anyone using FCP X on a 4K monitor? I'm thinking about getting a Dell 4K monitor as my main monitor but I'm a little worried the user interface support on 4K is weak. I think everything is going to look super tiny.
    Has anyone already experienced this?
    Thanks!

So I have my new Mac Pro set up. 8-Core, 32 gigs RAM, Dual 700 GPUs, 512 gig internal Flash drive.
I purchased the 27" Thunderbolt display as my main Final Cut Pro X screen and I have the Dell UP2414q 4K monitor plugged in as the Viewer display.
I have the Dell set to "Best for Display" and it works fine. I have some 4480 x 1920 RED footage and I have the FCP X Viewers on the Dell. The footage is set to 100% and it bleeds a little off the sides, as it should since the monitor is 3820 wide. It's at its native resolution.
The user interface elements of the second monitor are at normal size - the menu bar, the FCP X view options. Buying a 4K monitor and using Best for Display gives you the desktop the size of a typical 1080 monitor, but it all looks like a Retina display. It's very crisp.
So if you want a second monitor to hold a ton of Adobe palettes, and have a very large desktop, I'd recommend getting a Thunderbolt display, beause this display behaves like a 1080 monitor in that regard. If you want a 4K monitor specifically for color grading 4K footage at the native size so you can see all the artifacts and things you wouldn't see with the footage at 50%, this Dell monitor is fine and it's $890 on Amazon. It's not a professional color grader's monitor, obviously, but it does well for me.
I took some 4480 x 1920 RED footage that had a sky that was gray (the famous Mercedes in the mountains footage). I used the color picker color correction in FCP X and was able to select that sky very easily. I can see why the fat 4K footage is so great in regards to color grading. Because you don't have the massive color gradiation and artifacts you get in the more compressed media, when you use the color picker, it selects a very large, clean, section of the sky. I was able to quickly make the sky more saturated and blue and play it in real time (Better Performance) it's it's perfectly clean with no halos around the tree branches as they move into the foreground of the sky. Very nice!
Nice feature in FCP X is all the effects, transitions, etc., have a "4K-ready content only" button at the top so it only presents you with effects and transitions that work with 4K footage.
It took a lot of time calibrating this Dell monitor. It has the Adobe RGC color space built in but when I set it to that and set the OS X Display color option to Adobe RGB, it all had a very slight purple/pink huge. Very slight. Whites were not pure white like they are on the Thunderbolt and my blue sky had a tinge of pink to it.
I calibrated it with advanced options in the OS X Display preferences. I then connected my Samsung HD LED TV into the HDMI port of the Mac Pro and set it as my A/V display in FCP X. I was able to do the custom color setting on the Dell monitor itself and lower the saturation and RGB values. It took about 15 minutes to get it looking right. Now, I don't see the very slight purple/pink tink. My blue sky looks blue, etc., and it looks exactly how it will look on DVD and Blu-ray and projectors at film festivals.
The Samsung LED TV was a breeze to use. As soon as I plugged it into the HDMI port of the Mac Pro, the displays changed and OS X went to 1920 x 1080 60hz. The color was set to an HD color preset (I forget the number and I disconnected it). Arranging the multiple monitors is as you'd expect, just works.
BTW, I have 2 10 TB 5Big Lacie Thunderbolt 2 hard drives. They are about $1K each at 10 TBs. I have one for my footage and one as a backup with Time Machine. No formatting necessary - just plug them in and go. I plugged in the first one, told OS X no for Time Machine. Plugged in the second one, told Time Machine yes. Renamed the second drive "Backup". I turned off hard drive sleep becuase it's annoying. You hear it spin up, spin down, spin up, etc. as you work.
I used the AJA benchmark and this is what I got with 16 gig test file, 4K video simulation:
    Write 740.3 MB/s
    Read: 849.1 MB/s
    Fast!
FCP X loads in 4 seconds on this system off the internal Flash drive.
    Cheers!

  • Has anyone used the QuickUSB module (Bitswise Systems) to interface to a USB Camera via IMAQ for USB?

Has anyone used the QuickUSB module made by Bitwise Systems with LabVIEW for image acquisition.   I have a USB camera and I'm trying to use the IMAQ for USB controls to no avail.   Any input is appreciated.

Are you using the NI-IMAQ for USB functions or are you calling the QuickUSB libraries from LabVIEW?  Unless the USB camera is DirectShow compliant, then it will not work with the NI-IMAQ for USB driver.  You can use the Code Interface Node in LabVIEW to call external dll's, and it looks like from QuickUSB's website that is the best way to go.  Hope this helps.

But is addressed via several NI KnowledgeBase articles and NI Community examples. For example: https://decibel.ni.com/content/docs/DOC-14564
Well not verbatim, as that document refers to Visual Studio, not C Builder. But creating DLLs in C Builder for use in LabVIEW is no different than creating DLLs in C Builder for any other programming environment that can call unmanaged DLLs. How to configure C Builder to create a DLL, is really beyond the tasks anyone from NI should be required to explain. This requires someone who is familiar with C Builder and requesting a supplier to have specific experience with tool X goes a bit far. NI and most others are using Visual Studio so that is what gets explained. If some C Builder crack would come up with a tutorial targeted at integration with LabVIEW and post that here or someplace else, that would be of course great, but alas, nobody so far has felt the desire to step up to the challenge. There is no inherent difficulty with C Builder created DLLs to be used by LabVIEW, but apparently some difficulty of people to understand how to use C Builder to create working DLLs at all. Similar problems can appear for beginners with Visual Studio and since this is the tool mostly used here around, there are several tutorial style documents available that try to handhold the beginner to get a DLL at all.
Personally I'm not sure that is ideal either, since those people usually know very little about C programming, or more precise if they know about C programming, they will be able to learn to use the tool in question, with some simple, non LabVIEW oriented examples from elsewhere and then easily apply that knowledge to LabVIEW with the help of the Visual Studio examples posted in quite big numbers, even if they use a different tool than Visual Studio.
Other even more challenging topics would be to use CygWin, MingW, Bloodshed Dev C++ and similar compilers and write tutorials about them. However the challenges with all of these is to get them even installed well on your development system and to figure out various configuration hassles, also when trying to distribute the result later on.

  • Has anyone used "Microsoft.BizTalk.B2B.PartnerManagement" API ?

Hello, forum; trying to make sense of that undocumented API library to create an agreement using BizTalk 2010. So far, I can create a Partner, Business Profiles, Business Identities and Partnerships, but how to create an agreement (onewayagreements and all
that) still eludes me. I have checked one reference, it was written by Mick Breeze (http://blogs.breeze.net/mickb/2012/05/22/BizTalk2010CreatingTPMPartnersThroughCode.aspx),
and also getting inspired by the newest published in here (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windowsazure/dn232396.aspx) which is not the same but at least it's something.
I have navigated through the classes but I can't manage to do all the tasks that it is suppose to achieve.
Has anyone used this before that may be able to help ? Is there any SDK sample of some sort ?
    Thanks in advance.

Partner automation. The user wants to use an asp.net form instead of using biztalk admin console, in order to create and update a large party database, the total count rounding between 300 to 500 partners, so, we have already a webform with all business
related information and we've add some port related information that will ultimately end up as the party information. With that info, this library should be able to accomplish everything we normally do from the console.
We are not migrating from a previous version, so the party migration tools is a no-go. We explored the idea of creating a binding-like file that would be loaded from BtsTask, but ultimately, we end up with the idea of using this obscure library to perform
all those so called duties of handling party related information on biztalk server.
    Thanks in advance.
