Anyone using Encore to burn to Blu Ray from FCP?

Given that there's no way to burn a "real" HD DVD, is anyone exporting their FCP movies to Adobe Encore and burning to Blu Ray? If so, have you had any success?

I'm yet to Author a BluRay w/ Encore using Media from FCP... but I do Author SD DVD's by exporting DV QT's from FCP then importing and encoding w/ Encore.
Seems like you'd be able to do the same by exporting an HD QT w/ a CODEC that's also on your PC.

    OK MAC FAMILY
I have a 17" mac book pro laptop with:
    a)...4gb of ram
b)...160gb internal hard drive with 60gb of free space available
c)...2.4.ghz intel core 2 duo processer
d)...256mb geforce 8600m gt graphic card
e)...2tb western digital external hard drive
    f)...intel high def audio
    g)...Lacie d2 blu-ray burner w/firewire 800/400 & 2.0 usb
    h)...the new snow leopard OS
    i)...the new fcp7 studio
It took me 20 hours total from the rendering process of my timeline to the complete burn on to blu-ray disc. The hi def footage total time is 1hr & 50min.
And it took another 15 hour to take that same hi-def footage and burn it to a standard definition disc using the new DVD feature in fcp7.
    HERE'S MY QUESTIONS:
#1)what is the average time to burn 1 hour and 50 min hi def footage to a blu ray disc using the new fcp7 through the new new blu-ray feature?
#2)is there a faster way to burn 2 hour of hi def footage in less time?
#3)what is the shortest time anyone burned 2 hours of hi def footage in fcp7?

    Hey Charlie,
    Welcome to Apple's FCP forum.
#1)what is the average time to burn 1 hour and 50 min hi def footage to a blu ray disc using the new fcp7 through the new new blu-ray feature?
    Ages ... seriously tho, sorry, I don't know :/
#2)is there a faster way to burn 2 hour of hi def footage in less time?
Yes, absolutely, you need a faster Mac with more processors to lend to the task. An 8 core Mac Pro with all cores lent to the encoding via a Compressor cluster will leave your MBP in the dust. Or a hardware based encoder such as that provided by Matrox in their MXO2 "MAX" line of I/O devices. My MXO2 MAX will encode 60 minutes of HD content to H264 for BluRay in real time (you still have to burn it to disc thereafter, and the speed of that depends on the speed of your burner).
#3)what is the shortest time anyone burned 2 hours of hi def footage in fcp7?
    Sorry, I encode but I don't burn.

  • Burning Blu-ray from FCP?  Seems I've encountered a glitch.

    Followed these instructions (Ken Stone):
    http://www.kenstone.net/fcphomepage/burn_br_mac_superdrivestone.html
Only difference is instead of using SD disks as instructed in those guidelines, I'm using actual Blu-ray disks with an external Blu-ray burner. The external drive is turned on and plugged into my mac and I chose it as the burning device (meaning my mac recognizes the drive).
Well, the export process finished and it didn't prompt me to insert a blank disk for burning, but it left the Blu-ray and AC3 file in my desktop.
How can I take those files and now create a Blu-ray disk? Is that something I can do from FCP or Compressor? I'm kinda stumped.
    Any help is appreciated!

Ha... yea, it was a total blonde moment on my part (I have blonde hair and I have the moments frequently... haha). BUT! The question still stands! Because the drive wasn't plugged in it didn't burn the DVD, it just saved the video and audio file to do so. So is it possible to get them back in somehow to burn the disk w/o having to go through the LONG export process again?
Fortunately, I guess because it didn't recognize the drive, FCP actually turned it into a disk image. I found that file this morning in my 'Movies' folder. I was then able to open Disk Utilities and burn it that way. I'm the proud new father of my first Blu-ray disk! Needless to say, the results are STUNNING. I'm totally blown away.
I'm gonna mark this as 'answered' because I found the disk image... but just for the heck of it... I'd still like to know if there's a way to get the BD file and AC3 back into Final Cut, should I not be so fortunate to get a disk image again in the future.

  • Problems burning to Blu-Ray from PE10

PE10 is very slow when encoding media while burning my "movie" to a Blu-ray disc, after 5 hours only 25% encoded, then computer shuts down, BTW I did render the movie before attempting burn
    Can anyone help?

    Welcome to the forum.
For the computer shutting down, see this ARTICLE. That is a very serious issue, and must be addressed, before you do much else.
As for the speed of Transcoding, that will depend on basically two things:
The speed of your computer. Can you list the full specs., including the I/O, i.e. the HDD's, their speed, size, controller type, and how they are allocated.
The Duration of your Timeline. How long is your Timeline?
    Good luck,

  • Framerate problem after burning PAL Blu-ray

Hi folks, bit of a rookie here. Usually try to work my way around things but this is a new area for me and I'm a little stumped!
Basically I'm using Encore CS5 to burn a Blu-ray from footage rendered from Final Cut. The footage is from a Sony HDV camera that records 1440x1080 50i. After the transcoding and burning was succesful I found that while looking good the footage was playing at 50fps on both a PS3 and a Panasonic player. I've tried leaving the transcoding settings on automatic and setting them manually to 1440x1080i 25 High Quality MPEG-2, both times the framerate was running at 50fps. So am I missing something obvious here to get the Blu-ray to playback at 25fps? Thanks in advance for any contributions!

    50i is still 25 fps
but if you want proper 25p you should upscale your material to 1920x1080 25p, and be shure the setting is no fields (progressive scan)
    Good luck

  • Has anyone burned 1080p blu-ray discs using Final Cut Pro alone?

I am in the market for a new computer. Currently I am a PC user who has burned Blu-Ray discs using Pinnacle. I am dissatisfied with that software because it hangs and crashes at critical moments in the rendering and burn process. I am considering switching to Mac but will only do so if I can burn true Blu-Ray movies which are playable in an ordinary Blu-Ray player.
I have read some of the discussions on this board and it is not clear to me whether it is yet possible to burn 1080p Blu-Ray discs playable on any Blu-Ray player using Final Cut Pro alone. Can someone confirm for me whether they have done this? Some users have indicated they can only output 720p using Final Cut Pro (which is not very satisfying). Others have indicated it is necessary to use Adobe Encore. If you have to use Adobe Encore to burn, why use Final Cut Pro at all? Why not use Adobe Premier Pro for editing and Encore for burning?

    David S. wrote:
And yes you can author single track 1080p blu ray discs with Compressor 3.5.
But that's not what the OP asked, "using FCP alone."
Why not use Adobe Premier Pro for editing and Encore for burning?
Well, why not just put CS4 on your PC, especially considering you already have the BD hardware?
There is no truth to the rumor that applications running on Macintosh are any more stable than the same apps a PC; all systems crash.

  • ENCORE CS6 gives error message during the burning of Blu-ray Disc

I did it again - upgraded my Production Premium CS5 to CS6.
I will not forget CS4 that never came to work. It was not a workable version, but at best an Alfa or maybe Beta version.
I was therefore naturally afraid to upgrade my reasonably well functioning CS5 version, but did it anyway.
My fears kept unfortunately connectors. Audition CS6 scratchy and crunches a lot when I change Audio Device from MME to ASIO. It should be noted, that none of my other programs have this problem neither my Soundbooth nor Audition 5.5 which I fortunately still have installed. So it is only Audition CS6 that crunches with ASIO4ALL.
Encore CS6 is also a problem child. When I try to burn a Blu-ray Disc I get, in the final phase, following error message: Blu-ray Error: "device error", Code: "CreateStcSequence: Fail to write M2S file"
Fortunately, I can open the project file in my Encore CS5, which do not have the same problem. Encore CS6 cannot be used as a standalone application - I still need to have a previous version installed to complete my projects. It is not fair.
Unfortunately I can see that many others have the same problem. Even worse, however, that Adobe still has not come with an update or fair solution of the problem - after so long.
It annoys me infinitely, I every time have to spend so much time on the Internet in an attempt to find solutions to remedy Adobe problems. These are programs I have paid dearly for - exactly twice as much as others living in the U.S. pay - just because I live in Europe.
If there is a user who has some useful suggestions I would appreciate it very much.
I must complain about my bad English.
    Thank you in advance.

    Hi Jim,
ISO files also works for me, but that's not what I paid for.
So far I use just the previous version CS5, but hope at some point to get CS6 to work.

  • Anyone burning to Blu-ray?

Trying to figure out if I can actually burn a Blu-ray DVD with FCP 7?
    Have you done it?
Had One on One session and Apple person had no idea.
I know you can export Blu-ray files out of FCP?
What type of burner to use? and proper DVDs?

    To follow up...
You actually have a choice between burning AVCHD disks (which puts HD content on DVD or DVD DL at bitrates up to 17 Mbps) or Blu-ray (which requires an blu-ray burner and blu-ray media but allows much higher bitrates - up to 40 Mbps or more).
Depending on your use, AVCHD may be more than enough for you.

Here's a free non-Adobe solution as well.  It's definitely got a steep learning curve compared to Encore, but from my understanding so far, it may also be more capable.  (And it's still being developed, unlike Encore which is dead software.)

  • CS6 Error Message When Burning a Blu Ray Project to DVD

    Hi,
I'm trying to burn a Blu Ray project to DVD and I'm getting this message when I try to build the project:
The project is an excerpt from a larger one and contains only 2 video files and no menus. However it's particularly worrying because the project from which this is an excerpt is large and complex. I have created it as a Blu Ray project but my final deliverable is DVD. I really don't want to have to rebuild as a DVD project because it took half a day to link up all of the menus and chapters.
Is there something I need to do in my encode settings?
    Thanks in advance.

    Thanks for your reply John.
It's extremely frustrating that this is the case. I'd have started with a DVD project in the first place had I not read this: http://helpx.adobe.com/encore/using/building-finished-project.html , specifically the following excerpt:
"You can build the same project to DVD and Blu‑ray formats no matter which format you select in the New Project or Project Settings dialog box. Encore makes the appropriate adjustments to transcode the elements to the correct format."
Reading that gave me the confidence to go ahead and build as a Blu Ray. I now have to find another half day to rebuild the project as a DVD.
    Thanks again for the information.

  • Burning Blu-ray from FCS 7

I want to try burning an HD project to blu-ray. I can see that it is possible to use the 'Share' function to author directly from FCP. My questions:
    1. Is there a specific burner required that will operate with an iMac intel 11.1 or will any external mac compatible blu-ray burner work? I imagine firewire 800 would be the connection required?
    2. I have imported my 5D Canon HD footage converting it to apple ProRes 442 1920 x 1080 (pal) and am assuming this format will export from theFCP timeline project using the 'share' option.
    3. If There are problems using the share function I expect to try the compressor and adobe encore authoring and I guess the same questions above would be relevant.
Grateful for any helpful feedback, but particularly in relation to buying a blu-ray burner which is my next step.

    Hi Tony,
    1. Just got an external BR player from these people, connects via USB, works great : www.mcetech.com
    2. Share from FCP doesn't work very well. Better to export as Quicktime at current settings then drop into Compressor and go from there.
    3. Never tried Encore but Toast also works well.

  • Trouble burning to Blu-Ray with PE 7.0

I have tried for the last few months to burn a 2 hour video to Blu-Ray.  I ahve burned shorter videos to a rewritable blu-ray disc with success but this video is just barely over the max (24/sec) quality.  Even when I shorten it to the hgih quality length it still freezes up and crashes.  I have made each chapter a saved file, so there are only 40 files and two items on the menu (move & slideshow).  I have tried all the trouble shooting and even called adobe support.  After a couple of hours they suggested I increase my virtual memory to 8000/10000  I have a quad-core processor and 4 gigs of RAM running XP pro.  I just want to burn to blu-ray and DVD and cannot.  Is their a trick that I don't know or is this product just worthless when it comes to burning.  I tried changing the names of my files from m2t to mpeg and that didn't work either.  I am soooo frustrated...
I'm willing to try just about anything.  Has their been any more luck with the new 8.0 version--it sure came out quick since 7.0

My original format is AVCHD.  Since I had so many cuts/edits/transitions I saved wach chapter as a high def file (I think H.264 1920x1080i) It saved it as a xxx.m2t file.  I then used those 40 files in one 2 hours movie.  That is where I am having trouble.  I have pretty much doen every trouble-shooting thing that they list and the closest thing I get to is a 16 hour-encoding process that fails at 98%.  I have even sucessfully saved the entire 2 hour movie as one huge file, but I still can't get it to burn.  Like I said I have been able to burn shorter movies successfully, but there is something wrong or different with this one.  I have tried several different things to change it (probably 20-30 times) and it either crashes while encoding the 2nd of 6 menus or it "unexpectedly quit"  I am so frustrated with this.  I had great success with version 2.0 & 4.0    The only thing I haven't tried is burning my 7.0 project in 4.0 (I uninstalled it after 7.0)  I think 4.0 burns to blu-ray but it won't edit avchd like 7.0   I am currently successfully burning (Fingers crosses) in 8.0 trial version and will be really upset with adobe if they simply fixed their product and I have to shell out another $100 because they didn't get it right when they first released it.  Has anyone else had this many problems buring long projects. Like I said I reduced the size of the project down to full qulity (24.00/sec) and that still doesn't work.  I'll try anything.

  • Burning to Blu-ray

I am getting the following error in Encore CS6 when trying to burn to blu-ray:
    First  play not set
    and
    Title Remote not set.
    Where can I find these?
    Thanks,
    Joe

First play is usually a menu but can also be a bit of footage you want to play before the menu appears.
Basically ist what you see first when playing a BD or DVD.
Double click on the words Title Remote not set.
This will bring you to the disk set up
Set the Title Button. i usually set it to Default
Title Remote lets the viewer use the Title button on the remote control.
