Anyone using MSI 865PE Neo2-PLS with OCZ Powerstream Psu?

Hi guys, just bought a Ocz Powerstream psu but I have a strange problem here...
The +12v and +3.3v rails seems to be mixed up. If I adjust/increase the +12v rail, the voltage for the +3.3v increased instead. If I adjust/increase +3.3v rail, the voltage for +12v increase. The +5v rail is ok and readings taken from speedfan ver 4.20. At first I thought psu is faulty... the tech guy might hooked the wrong pot to the wrong vsense line but...
When I boot into bios and adjust the rails. I got different results this time. Now it's +12v and +5v same thing like above and +3.3v is ok. This time I unplug my hdds, optical drives, addtional fans and boot into bios but still the same thing. If I got the same results in bios and windows, I would say my psu is faulty but now after seeing different results...
Anyone eccounter problems like this before? If so can kindly tell me what steps you took to fix it? Thanks and appreciated

One idea is +3.3V is derived from +12V in the power supply. ANyway, how big is the increase?
Sorry Maesus don't quite get what you mean hehe
But if you mean in numbers example like tunning the +12v rail, I didn't really turn it 180c or 360c just adjust abit till it's shown as red or yellow led light  but so far the voltages I seen is 12.58v or as low as in 11.74v.
Maybe the psu is not faulty well not 100% sure coz today after back from work, I turned on my system and went straight into the bios and try adjusting the rails. This time, the +12v and +5v are mixed up and +3.3v is ok.
I mean when I increase/decrease the +12v, the voltage went up/down for +5v and same for the other way around if I increase/decrease the +5v, the voltage went up/down for the +12v rail. I exit bios and boot into windows and try adjusting again but it's different when boot into windows. The +12v and +3.3v are mixed up instead.
This time I unplug all my devices, hdd, cdrom, floppy and additional fans and boot into bios and still the same thing. The +12v and +5v are mixed up during the tunning. I would say that if I get the same thing in bios and windows just between +12v and +3.3v rails during tunning, most likely the psu is faulty...could be the tech guy hooked the wrong pot to the wrong vsense line between these 2 rails. But now the problem is...
+3.3v and +12v are mixed up during tunning in windows
+5v and +12v are mixed up during tunning in bios
ok guys what could be the problem here? If the psu is not faulty what could it be? Mobo sensor error? Pls Help

  • MSI 865pe neo2 problem with IDE2 slot

My MSI 865pe neo2 motherboard isn't recognizing any devices plugged into the IDE2 slot.  I originally thought it may have been the cable (I used an old cable pulled from my P3), but even with a new IDE cable nothing gets recognized.  Is there some trick I'm missing, or maybe is the slot broken?  Would updating the BIOS do anything?  Any help appreciated.
    P4 2.4 800fsb
512mb ddr pc3200 (corsair valueselect ram)
    msi fx5200 td128 video card

Thank you very much, that was it.  I'm not very familiar with working with BIOS so I wouldn't have even known to look for that until you mentioned it, then I took a look in the bios section of the motherboard's manual, and saw it under the integrated peripherals section under On-Chip IDE Configuration.  It was set on P-ATA + S-ATA, so I changed it to P-ATA Only and it worked like a charm.
One further question-  if I later on buy a S-ATA hard drive, would I need to change this setting again?  Would I have to give up the IDE2 slot to use an S-ATA connection?
    Thanks again!

  • Cant oc 865pe neo2 pls more than 3.19

    i have
    msi 865pe neo2 pls
    p4 2.8 HT
    ati redoen 9800pro
cant get my cpu to overclock more than 3.19 when i do and save the settings it show them in the bios as a 3.2 but when i boot into windows with core center and system manager it reads the cpu as 1.6 it declocks it if thats possible
i think i need to change my multiplier is this true if so how do i do and what do i do
thanx for the help if u can

Hi - Please write your complete pc config. next time, because it is easier for people to help it they know your pc components - You can do it by login - profile - signatur
Intel cpu multiplier is not possible to change- it´s locked ( to 14 in your case )
but try changes in bios as a start...........................
The 2,8 cpu is not the best OC chip ( except the M0 stepping ) so you may only reach to about 230FSB ( 3,22 Ghz).
Bios settings, based on Kevin Keenan´s advice.
    MAT/DOT Set to OFF
    DRAM FREQUENCY = 333 ( means 5:4 ) - if you have ddr400 / 3200 mem, otherwise if you have ddr500 you can go 1:1 with auto.
    SPREAD SPECTRUM = OFF
    ADJUST CPU CLOCK = 230
AGP/PCI FREQUENCY = 66/33 or whatever is closest to that
    CPU VCORE ADJ = YES/ON
CPU VCORE = 1.525 (If unstable add voltage (1.6v safe)
DDR VOLTAGE = 2.65 (If unstable add voltage (2.8v safe)
AGP VOLTAGE = 1.5 (If unstable add voltage (1.7 safe) ATI sometimes like 1.6
Memory = SPD or Your manufacturer's memory timings
    AGP Aperture = 64MB
    Save and exit bios.
There are more too it, but I think this is the fastest and easiest way start with.

  • Problem with NIC and Firewire on MSI 865PE NEO2-PFISR

Hi, I have lots of trouble getting the network adapter on the MSI 865PE NEO2-PFISR to work.
The NIC's LED indicators doesnt even light up when I plug in a network cable,
and in windows (win 2003 server) it doesnt find the adapter at all.
The NIC is displayed in the bios, and I have the option to disable it,
    but it is enabled.
I have even reinstalled windows 2003 server to try to get the NIC to work.
I have upgraded the bios to v3.8 via live update, with no problems, although the
firewire-option on the same page in the bios is still gone, it doesnt detect the
    firewire at all(!).
    I have also tried several other NIC's (a 3COM 3C905B TX and a 3C905B TX XL
PCI adapter). The 3C905B TX worked fine for a while, and then it started saying in
windows that a network cable was unplugged, and began to try 10mbit, 100mbit
lots of retries, now it doesnt work at all.
I swapped tp-cables and changed the ports on the network switch (which there is
also other computers attached to which doesnt have any problems) and that didnt
    made any difference.
It seems that the whole pci bus is long gone, and maybe the onboard NIC is
attached to this same pci bus?
Strange also about the firewire-controller which isnt detected anymore.
The USB devices work, and even a 3com usb wlan adapter works well.
I have tried to reset the bios several times without that making a difference.
Anybody have a clue to point out here?
    Cheers!

I returned the motherboard to the reseller and got a new motherboard as a replacement. This doesnt have all the same problems. At first it didnt post at all, indicating to red lights on the diagnosis.
Then I was so pissed I hadnt touched the computer in a week, and just tried to use it a few days ago, and it seemed to work all ok. I used it for a few hours, and then it locked up.
When I powered it up again, the lights on the integrated adapter was out. At first it seemed to work to take the agp card a little out of its slot, as if it was unaligned or something. Used it for a few more hours.
Then I plugged in the sound cables (5.1 sound with 3 cables), and with the last cable, the network darkened out AGAIN!!
In the bios it still indicates that the network is enabled, firewire is enabled etc.
I twisted the network cable, and for a few microseconds I get a orange light, not the usual green light. Now this has stopped too.
I see other also have problems with these symptoms so I guess I've got another black monday card.
I will return this card too, and ask the reseller to get a card of another brand.

  • 865PE Neo2-PLS users running on Prescott 3.0Ghz and above please come in

It's showing garbage for the cpu voltage in my bios and for those who read my previous posts know what I mean as I had posted the pictures before. I have flashed with different bios ver, tested using different psu, graphics, rams but no luck. Tested using different cpu on my mobo, the voltage showing correctly but they are northwood as I can't find spare prescott to test on my mobo.
I just called intel support to RMA and told them it's problem with the processor but I can't convince them
They want me to test my cpu on another mobo to test it out first but I can't find a spare 1
Anyone experienced garbage reading for cpu voltage so far using this mobo with prescott 3.0Ghz and above? Thanks

Well sad to say I forgot to ask them at the distro center haha coz I thought the problem lies on my mobo and hoping to get 1-1 exchange but when they showed me correct reading for the voltage when they tested my mobo using other cpu, I'm lost trying to figure out what could be the problem you see...
I did mail them today asking did they test my mobo using a prescott but I guess the earliest I can get their reply is tomorrow as they are closed today. Well I might be paying them another visit and ask them to test my prescott on other mobo as well the it's far from where I'm staying
Anyway now I just want to know if any users using this 865PE Neo2 P series mobo showing garbage for cpu voltage when using prescott 3.0Ghz and above to confirm. I guess I'm the only 1 so far haha

  • MSI 865PE NEO2-V showing wrong RAM timings

    Hi
I have a MSI 865PE NEO2-V motherboard with Corsair TWINX2048-3200C2 DDR-DIMM 2048MB Kit w/two matched CMX1024-3200C2 DIMMs now and try to put the timings of the RAM to 2-3-3-6 in the bios.
According to http://www.corsairmemory.com/corsair...h_results.html it should work ok...but its not.
When i check the timings with CPU-Z it shows 3-4-4-8 instead.
    The SPD is 3-3-3-8.
I have checked so they are in Dual channel and i have put the RAM voltage to 2.75V after i tried with the default voltage, but to no avail.
To be extra certain i ran Everest Ultimate and it showed the exact timings.
The RAM run fine with StressPrime and Prime95 but i get bad results in SiSoft Sandras RAM benchmarks.
    What is going on????

    Hi
    Yeah, it get slow results.
    I have a Intel Prescott 3.2Ghz with FSB800.
I see now that the link uses Java script, its in Corsairs search engine on their site.
    Their recomendations for the set of RAM i have is: TWINX2048-3200C2 / DDR-400 (XMS-3200C2) / 2-3-3-6 .
I have tried to set the timings as you said but it still runs at 3-4-4-8 whatever i set it at.
I have it running at 2-3-3-6 on another motherboard so i think it must be some settings in the BIOS that i set wrong on this one, but i cant figure it out.
Could it be that somethings wrong with the Performance Mode (MAT) settings?
I tried it on and off, I have also reseted the BIOS to default and even removed the CMOS battery for a while.
I paste all the info from the Corsair site here:

  • MSI 865PE NEO2 LS RAID Help...

I just installed a RAID controller, MANHATTAN SATA-PCI, is there any way to test to see if both drives are EXACTLY the same w/out having to try to boot up the backup drive?
I had 1 80g Maxtor DiamonPlus 9 SATA w/ Windows XP installed.  Now I've installed the second per the instructions.  But the manual doesnt say anywhere How or when or what yada yada yada, I need to do to copy the files to duplicate the drive onto the NEW 80G Maxtor DiamonPlus 9 SATA.  OR if i need to do anything at ALL?
Can some 1 please explain to me how it works.  I know that the files are copied onto the xtra or Mirrored drive simultaneously but how do the files that were already on the ORIGINAL drive get copied?

865PE Neo2-PLS which is my board does NOT come with RAID  You have to get the 865PE Neo2-PFISR to get RAID on the chipset, hence the "R" in the model name.
I started "from scratch" as u say, in that,... I used the user manual which has installation procedures for working with an existing installation of WINXP-H.
I can see the SATA2000 Serial-ATA IDE card in my hardware manager (under SCSI RAID controllers, with NO exclamation point or anything so i know its installed correctly.
But again, i dont know how to "image" the drive, if that is what they call it.  I mean i guess i could use my maxtor software to image the drive but is that what i'm supposed to do? cause the RAID manual doesnt say that

  • Corsair XMS 3500 + MSI 865PE Neo2 = :(

I have no clue what to do now. I just upgraded my 2500+ Barton and Nforce2 board. I ordered a MSI 865PE Neo2-s , 2 sticks of Corsair XMS 3500 memory and a P4 2.4c.
However, when I install the memory, it refuses to post, but with PC2100 memory (@266 ) it posts and continues to run windows. I manually set the timings for the corsair memory, and set it to 333. Nothing.
This board has the orginial 1.0 bios and I was thinking of trying the 1.1 or 1.2. Other wise I will have to get another board, and I am tight on cash, after buying all this stuff.
    Anyone????

@TS, you can flash to 1.3 but i doubt it would do you any good.

  • My "MSI 865PE Neo2-PFS Platinum" Is not working

I have an MSI 865PE Neo2-PFS Platinum and it has stopped working properly, I'm fairly sure that the problem is coming from the motherboard however I would like another person opinion.
Basically everytime i try to play a game it works for about 5 seconds then comes up with a bluse screen telling me to check Windows has needed to shut down because there has been an error and that it could be caused by drivers or that I need to disable BIOS caching and shadowing
So far I have tried disableing BIOS caching and shadowing. Changing the RAM around and using different modules. I have formatted the Hard Drive. Tried using a different graphics card. Reinstalled the BIOS. Uninstalled all the drivers and tried different ones.
None of this has made any difference.

Since you already have reformated/made a fresh OS install, here´s some things you can try…….
    - Set dram voltage to 2.7v in bios
    - Use Driver Cleaner when uninstalling VGA drivers
    http://www.majorgeeks.com/download3214.html
    - Install latest IntelInf driver
    http://downloadfinder.intel.com/scripts-df/Product_Filter.asp?ProductID=816
    - DirectX
    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=0A9B6820-BFBB-4799-9908-D418CDEAC197&displaylang=en
    - Install Nvidia VGA drivers
    If that don´t help……………
    - Try another VGA card
    - List 3,3v+12v amps on PSU

  • Unable to detect Hyper Threading of CPU SL6WE 3.2 in MSI-865PE Neo2

Hi! I am new to this forum and need some help. I have just installed a  Intel Pentium 4 3.2GHz Northwood SL6WE 478 800MHz/512k . I bought this on e-bay and understand that this cpu supports hyper threading. I have enabled hyper threading in the bios, but only see one cpu in Widows System Properties and only one cpu in Windows Task Manager. I had a 2.6 cpu installed previously, no hyper threading. My motherboard is an MSI-865PE Neo2 version 1.1, 2GB Ram ( 4x512 ?), Thermaltke TR2-430W power supply, Freezer 4 Arctic Cooler, Nvidia GeForce 6600, LG DVD RAM burner, 16x DVD ROM, WD 250 gig and an Hitachi 80 gig hard drive. I also used Arctic Silver 5 thermal paste (after using Arcticclean and Surface Purifier). Have I missed somethig? Would appreciate help in solving why I have no hyper threading.

    200 7-3-3-2.5 Ultra Turbo and 212 5-3-3-2.5 Ultra Turbo is a
no boot. Thinks ultra-turbo tries to set mem timings to
2-2-2-5 below 218FSB and my memory can't do that.
Turbo boots ok. Normal setting disabled PAT.
    200 2.5-3-3-7 Turbo PAT on    4.6GB/s
    200 2.5-3-3-7 Normal PAT off  4.2GB/s
    212 2.5-3-3-5 Turbo PAT on    4.8GB/s
    212 2.5-3-3-5 Normal Pat off   4.5GB/s
    Also tried 250 1:1, not prime95 stable
    250 2.5-3-3-7 Ultra-turbo        6GB/s
I think pat is disabled above 218FSB on
1:1 and 5:4 setting, but not on 4:5 setting.
You should get close to or above 6GB/s at
    1:1 250 3-3-3-5 bios overclocking.
Maybe something is running in the background
    stealing cpu power or something?
Well, you have to test some more, maybe a
    fresh windows setup will help?

  • [Other 865 Series] MSI 865PE Neo2-V and Dual Channel Mode Question

Hello, I have a quick question regarding dual channel mode with my current motherboard. I have an MSI 865PE Neo2-V and am wondering if it is possible to enable dual channel mode while having three RAM modules inserted in the motherboard.
For example, I currently have one 512MB PC3200 module in my computer. If I purchase another 512MB module and run them in dual channel mode, will it be possible to buy a 1GB module or another size module, and still have all three slots run in dual channel mode? Or is dual channel only operational on this motherboard if only two of the three slots are occupied?
    Thanks.

Dual channel requires an even number of sticks.

  • MSI 865PE NEO2-V booting problems [Solved]

Hi.  I've been building a new computer and am seeing some weird stuff.
    System Specs:
    -P4 3 GHz Socket 478
    -MSI 865PE NEO2-V -V22 http://www.saveateagle.com/865pe-ne...EO2-V&ovtac=CMP
    -128mb ATI Radeon 9800 pro
    -120 GB Western Digital
    -1GB dual channel DDR400 PC3200 Corsair

    -DRW 1108IM ¡V DVD+/-RW Drive
    http://www.btc.com.tw/english/2-2-dvd_rw.htm
-Generic Floppy Drive (sentimental reasons )
The system seems to be running (ie no post beeps) but I'm not getting any signal sent to the monitor. I've tried running it out of the case with only the video card connected to the mobo, cleared cmos via battery and jumper settings, and the same thing still happens.
Anyway, I've been talking with other guys on another forum too, but we haven't gtten it to work.
    http://www.techsupportforum.com/showthread.php?t=53044
I'm going to try clearing the cmos again because apparently the battery must be out for several minutes, whereas I roughly did one minute. If the mobo has no ram connected, there should be post beeps, right? If so, I better check the case speaker connection again.
    Thanks for the help.

I tried removing my RAM and powering -suprisingly no beeps . So make sure its not a faulty RAM, try another one

I think A6728IMS.210 means BIOS 2.1 so it may already work with the 3.2Ghz CPU.
