Anyone using one of these processor upgrades?

Is anyone using this processor upgrade from Other World Computing? Its this one:
Motorola/Freescale PowerPC G4/7447A Processor running at 1.6GHz
# 512K of 1:1 L2 Cache @ 1.6GHz
# 100MHz or 133MHz bus operation
# Bus Ratio of up to 16:1
I have just recieved a Quicksilver 733(was supposed to be a dual 800,but it was defective),and I would like to max it out without spending nearly $400.00US for one of the 7448's.Is this worth $200.00US?Will I notice performance close to my dual 1.25 MDD?Or is this just a waste of money?Any info at all on this upgrade would be very appreciated, thanks!

Well, duh,I should have just looked at your sig japamac! I forgot you were running one of these, nice to know its reliable.Good to know it will keep up with my current computer as well. Thanks BDAqua as I actually wanted to know if it would at least be better than the dual 800 I didnt get.Dont mind spending the cash, just dont want it to get out of hand if its just a small increase in performance. This will be paired with a 9800pro and sata Hitachi 1TB upgrades,so this shouldnt be a slowpoke with Leopard. And of course I maxed the ram out.Again thanks for the info(and FAST!!)!

  • Anyone using one of these SSD?

looking at buying one of these bad boyz to run my OSX with Logic and PTLE on my MAC PRO 3.2 8 core.  I have a UAD solo and an additional FW card as well and a SATA card running 4 external HD with Port Multiplier.  My concern is that this may kill my PCI BUS.  Any advise before I buy this thing?
    Thanks in advance.

  • Has anyone used one of these powermats to charge their iPhone(s)?

I've been thinking of maybe getting one of these powermats (see link) and I'm wondering if the IP will charge from one of these mats just by laying on it? The description talks about some "tip" and I'm also wondering if an IP would have be actually be plugged into one of these mats in order to charge? At $90+, it's not a cheap way to go, but I like the idea of just laying my IP or Nano down on it and having the unit charged when I'm out-the-door again. Sounds too good to be true, but I do like techie gadgets .

  • 6212 Classic. anyone using one of these?

i love the idea of contactless payment but has anyone with this phone set up the NFC payment system? i'd be interested to here how everyone is getting on with it?
    Nexu 5

Yes, I am using my card and its real good as no need to carry the credit card.
Not much to worry about currently as new and the wallet is locked and connected to the bank security (if advised it has been lost/stolen - Just need to ensure its locked most of the time for additional safety).
    Also its a Java phone.
It's real cool, just one swipe, the best thing is the bank informs you in 1-2 minutes of the transaction with the balance.
    Did it help?

  • Has anyone used one of these with success.

I have my eye on a Adaptec fireconnect afw-1430 but I have a 333 Lombard and the system requirements say a 400 or later. I know from some programs that say similar claims usualy work with less but I would hate to order this and it not even install because it see's I have a 333 and not a 400 ( have had that happen also ) .

    freefour,
FireWire PC cards work just fine in any powerbook that natively supports CardBus (32-bit) PC cards, and Apple added this technology to the Powerbook G3 Series Wallstreet and newer. Earlier powerbooks would only support the PCMCIA (16-bit) standard. I run a FireWire PC card in my Wallstreet and it works just fine.
There are a few limitations with FireWire and USB PC cards:
-You cannot boot an external FireWire HD through a PC card; only built-in FireWire ports support this feature.
-FireWire and USB cards supply only minimal bus power, so you will want to have your external devices powered by their own power supply. For example, if you wanted to run a 2.5" FW HD, you will need a power adapter for the HD. This adapter is optional on some 2.5" FW HDs but all 3.5 HDs come with their own power supply.
If you are running 10.x, the necessary FireWire drivers are already installed. If running 9.x, you will need to install Apple's FW drivers, so post back if you need help adding these drivers.

  • Anyone got one of these?

Previous post deleted by mods - apologies.
I need some advice on this product:
It's called a "padprop" which allows you to apparently use the iPad more comfortably etc.
Anyone got one of these? What do you think of it - any good?
    TIA

Right, and isn't that the one where you don't even have an iPad and you're pimping this UK iPad product just because you thought we'd all appreciate knowing about it?
If it was pulled, as you say, then clearly I wasn't the only one thinking that it smelled perfectly like an ad.

I bought a 3G and a 4G in Australia while working there for 3.5 years. I have since returned permanently to the USA and would like to use one of these, understanding the GSM requires using AT&T? When in Australia, I took these iphones to the Apple Store and they unlocked the 3G for me, knowing that I would be using it in the USA - but when I took it into the AT&T store in California, the iphone would not work with AT&T's SIM card.    May I unlock the 3G and/or 4G somewhere in the USA with Apple's blessing?

If your phones were unlocked by your carrier, they should work with AT&T SIM cards.  You'll have to sign up for an iPhone phone and data plan with AT&T, but the SIM should definitely work.  Go to an AT&T store and have them set up your account and activate your SIM there.
AT&T will NOT be able to unlock your Australia-purchased phones.

You can put your iPhone 4 in a 4S case and it will work just fine. You shouldn't put a 4S in a 4 case (like the Otter Commuter) since the camera sensors are different.

    jasontc:
The answer is yes. If you use the "alias" method (in iPhoto's Advanced Preference pane - don't copy files when importing) you can use your own source folder system. You can also share the source files with another image management application. There are some unique issues, however. Any edit of a photo by iPhoto is not seen by the other application as the edited version is saved in iPhoto's Modified folder. If the other application can perform edits on the source file and save the edits to the actual source file, iPhoto's thumbnail of that file will not reflect the change but the edit will display when you open the photo in iPhoto's edit window or use that photo in a book or slideshow. If iPhoto hasn't edited before hand. If iPhoto edits the other application's edited version the source file is not touched. Also any file added to an existing source folder has to be manually imported into iView and then moved within iPhoto from its roll to the roll representing the source folder it was placed in via the Finder. When moved in iPhoto the source file will physically be moved to that folder in the Finder. Hope I haven't confused you with this convoluted description.
So with some quirks you can use another application like iView MediaPro on the same set of source files.
I do the above with iPhoto and iView.

  • Plug-based NAS and webserver devices: anyone used one?

I've been reading a bit about using 'Sheeva'-based devices for Internet-access/NAS-server use; the most commonly quoted one is the 'Pogoplug'. This seems to allow access to any attached USB HDDs from across the 'Net by diverting the access through Pogo's own web-site. Other similar devices - Tonidoplug and Sharkoon LANport seem to offer the NAS service but not the 'net access (I might be wrong on my details so please correct me).
Has anyone here used any of these either as NAS boxes or Web servers and what can you say about them, please?

A bare hard drive mechanism is self-contained and sealed, so there is no problem with it being bare. However, if you have curious cats that can walk on your desk, you may want to have the drive in an enclosure because there are more exposed connectors that a cat may want to nibble on (and possibly yank out). Actually, you still have a USB cable and power adapter cable, even if you had a case.
If you have an available the FireWire port, and a shortage of USB ports, you might as well use the FireWire port. For use with Time Machine, a less expensive FireWire 400 drive is fine, but since your iMac has a FireWire 800 port, you may want to get a drive with FireWire 800. If you get a drive with FireWire 400, you will have to spend another $10 or so for an 800 (9-pin) to 400 (6-pin) adapter.
Are the OWC enclosures that much better for simple use with time machine?
OWC offers good external drives. But any USB or FireWire drive will be fine for use with Time Machine. The mechanism inside is the more important point. I like OWC because they sell most of their enclosures empty, and I can select and buy the hard drive separately. Macally sells their cases empty as well. They seem to have a version of drive you looked at with FireWire 800.

  • Anyone using one of the new iMac intels with Logic Pro?

Hey people the title says it all really. Anyone using that particular combination? More specifically the newer Core 2 Duo range.
If so, how is it handling Logic and perhaps your 3rd party plug-ins? I used to have a Dual 1.8 gig G5 (see spec below) and that was pretty powerfull but unfortunately one of the processors died so I had to sell it on. Now I'm thinking of getting an iMac due its size and price.
    Cheers and beers everyone.
    Dual 1.8 G5   Mac OS X (10.4.3)   3 Gig ram,

    yup
this has been asked and answered a lot - but i'll bite:
I've got a imac c2d 2.16 2gb ram and it flies. haven't got close to making it sweat yet.
been running upto 8 audio tracks with between 3-7 plugins a track, 2-3 + space designers, stylus rmx with 4/5 instances and fx and maybe 3-4 soft synths - e.g. 2+ absynths and a couple of logic plugins plus an ultrabeat.
dmitedly i am comparing it to my old powerbook - but really it flies and i'm occasionally aso running imovie in the background and surfing the web if the whim takes me.
I'd recommend at least 2 gb ram - but although i bought mine in feb with the full knowledge that a new imac might be introduced soon, i'd have to say wait....check out macrumors buying guide as it's long overdue for an imac new model.
    hope that helps,
    rounik

  • Canon HV20. Anyone using one? Any problems with iMovie HD?

So as a follow up to my other post about the Sony, has anyone been using Canon's HV20 with iMovie hd? If I can't get the older Sony to run with iMovie, I'd probably check this out over the Sony HD model, given all the reviews I've read. I really would like an external mic ability, in case I want to use a lavaliere mic for an interview. It appears that the Sony will not allow me to use one. I assume that I can easily plug this model into a MacBook and run it from iMovie, as well as import and edit clips.
    Thoughts?

There is a box in the top right corner of this discussion group labeled "Search Discussions". Just type HV20 in there. There have been a couple of threads lately on the HV20.

  • Has anyone tried one of these $40 eBay batteries...

...found this on eBay. Price sounds good but we all know what that usually means:
    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=220396594649
    Has anyone tried one?
    -Alan

While the ad says "new in box", that box may well have been sitting on a shelf for more then 5 years. And if so, it's worthless. LiOH batterys begin to decay from internal self-oxidation the minute they are assembled. Even just sitting idle on a shelf, under perfect environmental conditions, they will only last for 4-7 years, after which, their capacity to hold a charge is pretty much shot.

  • Samsung ML-2010 is anyone using one?

I know this could be posted in the tiger os forum, but it concerns my iMAC G5 series B.
Has anyone actually used the Samsung ML-2010 printer with this computer running OX 10.4.3? It is not clear from the Samsung website if their driver supports the latest os from Apple. I had problems with a HP all in one which had to be returned due to incompatibility with 10.4.3 and do not want to go through that again! I am aware that some HP all in ones do work, my wife has one, but that model is no longer in production. Am also aware that the Samsung is a laser printer only.
Would also like if people using this printer like it?
    Thanks
    Ed

Thanks, that was the kind of information I was seeking. Appreciate your response. Just ordered one from Staples online and am looking forward to trying it out (50 off helps alot).
The only problem I have really had with the iMac is mating a printer with it.
Our HP laser is not compatible, though it is far less than a year old. One HP "all in one" works, a similar model from HP does not. So I was a little gun shy about ordering a printer without talking to someone who had hands on experience with it.
BTW, I like HP printers, but their software is terrible to uninstall if the printer does not work. Uninstalling the all in one from my Dell 1100 laptop was a nightmare, had to go to mICROSOFT website to get info on deleting about half a dozen registry entries it left behind. Would not uninstall from the XP "add/remove software" utility.
    Thanks Again,
    Ed

  • ATI Radeon 9800 Pro - anyone using one?

Is anyone out there using a ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 128mb graphics card in their 1st generation G5 1.8mhz Dual-Processor tower? If so, is it running OK or have you had problems with it crashing?
Perhaps there's some tweaks I need to make in the ATI control panel? Mine seems to spontaneously hang doing all but the simplest of tasks. I've run Apple Hardware Test, but that says card is OK.
Waiting for an XT800 to arrive, but tempted to buy an Nvidia GeForce 6800 Ultra DDL - now. Can anyone help me decide please.
    Any advice appreciated,
    Thanks
    KHP

while not the 9800, i used to have the 9650 (128mb vram) in my dualie ... quickly got rid of it and got an x800xt soon after aperture 1.0 ...
the difference was startling ... night and day ... with the 9650 every adjustment took forever ... it was workable but i always had a second task going on to keep me occupied ...
according to some profiles, yes there are people that still use the 9800 ... yours may have gone bad sooner than others ... regardless, your life will be better (imho) with a newer/better/faster/ stronger video card - whether you go ati or nvidia ... although i know little about the 6800 ...
do a full forum search of the 9800 6800 and x800xt ... see what is in the archives ...
    here's a start ...
