Anyone using Quickbooks 2011 on Lion??

I've been using Quickbooks on my old G4 and have just purchased a new iMac.  I know my old quickbooks won't work on my new iMac, so I've been thinking about buying Quickbooks 2011.  The reviews for it, however, are horrible.  I have a very small business and use Quickbooks to generate about 50 invoices a month and track general business expenses.  I don't need it to write checks or do any payroll stuff.  Just wondering if anyone out there is using Quickbooks 2011 with Lion and would be willing to share your experience with it.
Thanks very much!
Tony

I suggest if the reviews are terrible, to move to working with a spreadsheet again.  At least with a spreadsheet you have total control over the appearance and numbers that are shown.  http://www.neooffice.org/ has an excellent spreadsheet.

Macmini 2011 on lion, goes to a blue screen on monitor when awakening from sleep mode, last 3 or 4 seconds, before desktop appears, can anyone help? Thanks

Depending on the system configuration, this may not
be unusual.  The Mini that I use for my home theater,
which is connected to a receiver then to a TV, all via
HDMI usually takes a couple seconds to come up just
the way yours does.  Same happens when I switch sources
on the receiver.  Actually, it starts with the blue screen and
will sometimes flash before the desktop comes up.
It seems that when HDMI goes dormant, there is handshaking
that needs to be re-established, at least thats my SWAG on it.
On the other hand, the Mac Mini Server that I use as a work
station and is connected to a Thunderbolt Display, wakes to desktop
in a second, maybe two.  On this combo, it just comes up to
    the desk top.
It also probably depends on what processes were active when
the Mini was put to sleep.  So it may take some time for it to get around
    to reloading the desktop.

Since this is a school project I recommend you do the work yourself. You will not learn asking others to do it for you. In addition, folks here will not do your homework for you. We are however more than wiling to answer specific questions for you. Post what you have done or tried and ask specific questions. I am confident you will get assistance.
And to answer your question, yes LabVIEW can be used to implement a scheduling program.

  • Anyone using Mountain Lion?

Anyone using the new OS with FCP X? What are you experiencing?
    Thanks!

I can not imagine, you can not switch-off this 'feature' …  (???)
You can for now... but for how long? The distance between Lion and ML is just about 1 year. Who's to say whether in the next incarnation of OSX that option is completely dropped?
Quite frankly, if Apple locks everyone into the App Store for all installations, that's grounds for a lawsuit. That's actually WORSE than Internet Explorer on Windows was in the "browser wars."
I don't see the necessity for Gatekeeper otherwise. OSX is *virtually* immune to viruses. The only way to get infected is if *THE USER* (idiot who gets "talked" into doing so) actually INSTALLS it him or herself! Nothing can run from root unless express permission is given to do so -- i.e., the user actually supplies the password permission during installation allowing the malware/virus to be installed. The ONLY reason I can see for something like gatekeeper IS to lock everyone into a specific method of installing software on a machine...
If that happens, I don't see where there can ever again be free Mac software (maybe "adware") and Apple will have the final word on what you can or cannot  run on YOUR machine and who can or cannot develop software for distribution... and I'm really upset about it. Twitter feeds from people I follow has been strangely quiet about ML. I'm not getting any information, but I'm already thinking I'm probably going to have to fork over $99 to Apple for a certificate... and wondering if it's really worth it.
It really doesn't *pay* to be a "nice guy" -- but it's even worse if you HAVE TO PAY to be a nice guy!

Is anyone out there finding OSX Lion a disappointment compared to previous Mac OS?  After nearly 20 yrs of using and enthusing about AppleMac, I am suddenly not enthused.  What am I missing?

You're not heavy on specifics on what you don't like.
Most people have little technical expertise but are wanting more and more, requiring more complex computers, ideally ending up with one from Star Trek where you basically don't have to know anything how to really use a computer and it just provides you with the exact answer you need to a not particularly well-phrased query.  If you're missing things like configuration options and the rest, well frankly I think many people are happy not to have to make complicated decisions for themselves such as in which opening do they insert a system installer disc.

  • Why don't I get iRadio after installing iTunes 11.1.1 using OS X Mountain Lion in the US?

After installing iTunes 11.1.1 using OS X Mountain Lion, I do not have iRadio (or I cannot find it) in iTunes. Would anyone know a solution? Thanks!

At this point I recommend selling/returning your iPhone, and getting an older one that still has an older supported iOS.
Or buying a used or refurbished Mac that will support the iPhone.   http://www.macsales.com/ and http://www.powermax.com/ are both good places to go, and the Apple Store has its own corner of older Macs to go to.   Recognize PowerPC applications are not supported at higher than Mac OS X 10.6.8, and that Macs newer than July 20, 2011 can't run 10.6.8 without serious finagling.   Migrating from old to new Mac also takes some work.
Recognize you don't have to buy the latest and greatest.  Because if you do, you'll have to always try to make sure the software and hardware are running in sync.   This is the down side of having integrated products.   Eventually it does create older machines that can't run with newer devices.

  • Has anyone used the mackeeper software?

Has anyone used the mackeeper software?

Short answer:  I don't recommend it, but it's not "a scam" or malware, per se.  If you use it, you may have some real performance issues.
Me:  I was an actual MacKeeper user (paid version) for about two years.  What follows is my experience and conclusions.  I am not a paid reviewer, nor tech professional.  I am an educator with about 15 years of experience using Macs.  I am what most people would call a "prosumer," in that I know a good deal about my systerm, but am not a techie, anti-utility software zealot, etc.  I have no affiliation with Zeobit (manufacturer of MacKeeper) nor any of its competitors.
I bought MacKeeper in 2011, and then upgraded last year.  I used it to remove junk files and duplicates, and experimented with the anti-virus software.  I didn't use most of the other features.
The problem:  I am running a 2009 15" Macbook Pro 2.8GHZ Core 2 Duo, 4GB RAM, 512GB HDD.  Over the past year, it has been having major performance issues.  Slowdowns, hangups, applications quitting and more were all becoming the norm.  I deleted duplicate files and ran MacKeeper a few times a month.  I also ran permissions repairs regularly (disk utility).  I looked for the cause of the slowdowns everywhere, from too many user accounts being open, to resource hogs.  I decided that MacKeeper's Anti-Virus software was just taking up too much RAM and CPU, so I disabled it.  I continued experiencing slowdowns and started monitoring my available RAM with a freeware app called Memory Clean.  It often reported that I had less than 500MB available, even with very light usage, application wise.  After "cleaning" memory, I could get my available RAM to about 1.5GB, max.  I struggled with these issues for a year or more, and was about ready to concede defeat and buy a new machine.  I figured my MBP was over four years old, and perhaps running Mountain Lion and normal wear/tear were just too much.
This morning, I noticed that the biggest resource hog on my system was a process called "MacKeeper Helper." The process relaunches even when it is forced to quit.  It was consuming over 100MB of RAM and up to 99 percent of my CPU at times!  I also noticed a process called "anti-virus" that also could not be quit, and was consuming over 100MB of RAM itself.  I started researching how to kill these processes, and was introduced the the Great Online MacKeeper Controversy.  Here is what I learned:
Some in the Mac community have pure hatred for this product (and some hate all like it).
There were numerous user reports of it slowing down systems
Zeobit seemed to be guilty of questionable ethics, particularly in its advertising.
There was no way to stop MacKeeper Helper and Anti-Virus processes from running with deleting the entire application.
I wasn't the only one annoyed by MacKeeper's system pop-ups, trying to sell me something I already bought.
The software got good professional reviews, even from well-respected publications (e.g. MacWorld)
It is often confused with Mac Defender, which WAS malware.  They two are not associated.
The Decision:  After researching ways of fully uninstalling MacKeeper (and considering whether or not I should), I decided to try the uninstall instructions from the manufacturer.  It said that it would remove ALL traces of the application.  I also didn't want to get into too much Terminal work and manually deleting things, as some users suggested doing.  I followed the process (close app, drag to trash, enter password, click "uninstall").  I then ran a permissions repair and restarted.
The Results:  I have been MacKeeper-free for about an hour as I write this. Put simply, my problems appear to be completely solved. MacKeeper Helper and Anti-Virus are gone.  Available RAM is now up to 2.75GB.  I have experienced no slowdowns or app crashes.  Even bootup appeared to be considerably faster.  Launching iPhoto with thousands of images now takes a few seconds instead of minutes.  Everything feels faster.  It's like I have my Mac back!  I was ready to admit defeat and dish out another $2500+ that I didn't have.  I now think that won't be necessary!
What Should Yo Do? You'll find a lot of controversy out there between professional reviews, ethically dubious paid reviews, Zeobit's own defense through public statements, and Mac users themselves.  Some users like it, and swear up and down they are real people.  Others are extremely angry and hate the product with the passion of 1,000 burning suns.   All I can do is tell you my experience and make the following statement:
The bottom line is that I would not install MacKeeper/buy MacKeeper on my Mac.  After investigating my own system's problems (which made iit nearly unusable) and concluding that MacKeeper might be the issue, I uninstalled it. Magically, all my issues went away.  So...I report, you decide.  Best of luck.

  • Sync services on outlook 2011 - OSX lion

    Hi everyone!
I updated to OSX Lion... dont know if it has something to do.. Using Outlook 2011, opening the sync services, all the panes are blank, so I cant configure it to sync the outlook calendar with ical, neither the outlook contacts with apple adress book.
Can anyone help me on this?
    TKS in advance!

SyncServices (iPhone-iCal) and Outlook-iCal sync work again after removing multiple calendar events
I have had increasing problems for some time with Sync Services (iPhone to iCal) and Outlook to iCal, which were both getting slower and even incomplete (posts were missing or not updated). The Sync Services process would sometimes use almost the entire processor capacity, making the whole computer slowing down and the fan working really hard to cool down the processor. Adding a cooling fan tablet underneath solved the heat problem, but not the underlying problem :-)
I went through all steps recommended in this Apple KB article (http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2481) and things became slightly better after reset etcetera, but were still not satisfactory.
I then searched and found more than 25 000 calendar event instances (in the time frame 2005-2008). Most of these were repeated between 5-10 times, but a few occured 100:s times and two events even 1300 times! After removing all of these multiple instances (which took me about 5 hours using the search-and-delete function), the machine is quicker than ever before and the syncing functions work quickly and accurately in both directions, from iPhone to iCal and from iCal to MS Outlook or the other way around. I also used the Replace all content on iPhone with iCal when I syncronized the iPhone to avoid everything to be copied back again. One particular problem was all calendar appointments, that forces updates to be mailed to all invited parties when I deleted the event - I just turned the machine into offline mode and removed all outbox content of the Outlook mail services before turning it on-line again.
I can imagine this multiple instances problem stems from disorder in the sync registry, such that the same event is taken for a new one and copied back and forth. Particularly the repeated events as birthdays etc took a lot to get rid of. I now recall Sync Services has prompted me, after resetting the sync history, to resolve mismatchs between MS Outlook and iCal (I was asked to tell which posts should be kept), but there was no difference between these posts.
This problem could be resolved by a new function that stops the same event to occur more than once on the same day, or even simpler, just add a PURGE function to iCal and Outlook that allows all events older than xx days to be removed entirely (possibly first reminding the user to write the calendar content to a PDF-file in case one wants to trace back in time). The same would then hold in the Sync Services, give the user the option to avoid syncing of old objects. For some reason, I doubt the option given in iTunes to avoid old objects did work accurately in my case but I am not sure.
It would be interesting to get comments from Apple as well as the MS Outlook team on this issue, because it took me quite some time to find out and I found only one hint in a forum that pointed on the multiple calendar event problem. It could be pointed out clearer I think.

  • Is anyone using the Calendar Server to send external invites?

Is anyone using the Calendar Server to send external invites?
We have a Mountain Lion server running DNS, Open Directory, File Sharing and VPN. We have recently stood up the Calendar server and it is working very well. Internal invites work fine and are instantaneous to computer, iPhone, iPad. We have the ports working so that calendar items created outside the network work fine as well. Only problem is we cannot invite anyone with an external e-mail address. Each time we do the Calendar Error Log populates with:

We have set up an internal e-mail address. I have confined that it works fine. I have tried more than one internal account. I have also verified the settings through the command line by typing "sudo serveradmin settings calendar" The iMIP sending and receiving information is correct. There is no authentication type setting listed in the command line output even though there's a place to choose it in the Enable invitations by email - Edit button on the third screen. No matter what I choose it goes back to "login" and still doesn't work.
The command line settings mention a port number 62310 as being the MailGatewayPort but opening that port on the network's firewall makes no difference. As I said external set up works fine from Mac/iPhone/iPad and push notification works fine as well.
    Is anyone using this functionality?

I'm sorry. I forgot to add Mail to the list of services. I AM using mail on that server. Here's the iMIP portion of my settings output from Terminal.
    calendar:Scheduling:iMIP:Sending:Server = "boardwalkserver.kuhnwitt.com"
    calendar:Scheduling:iMIP:Sending:UseSSL = yes
    calendar:Scheduling:iMIP:Sending:Username = "calendarserver"
    calendar:Scheduling:iMIP:Sending:Address = "[email protected]"
    calendar:Scheduling:iMIP:Sending:Password = "password"
    calendar:Scheduling:iMIP:Sending:Port = 465
    calendar:Scheduling:iMIP:Enabled = yes
    calendar:Scheduling:iMIP:MailGatewayPort = 62310
    calendar:Scheduling:iMIP:Receiving:Server = "boardwalkserver.kuhnwitt.com"
    calendar:Scheduling:iMIP:Receiving:UseSSL = yes
    calendar:Scheduling:iMIP:Receiving:Username = "calendarserver"
    calendar:Scheduling:iMIP:Receiving:PollingSeconds = 30
    calendar:Scheduling:iMIP:Receiving:Type = "imap"
    calendar:Scheduling:iMIP:Receiving:Password = "password"
    calendar:Scheduling:iMIP:Receiving:Port = 993
    calendar:Scheduling:iMIP:AddressPatterns:_array_index:0 = "mailto:.*"
    calendar:Scheduling:iMIP:MailGatewayServer = "localhost"
So Add mail to the services being used. Since Calendar is running on the mail server one would assume that it could communicate with it fairly easily.

  • Can I use iMessage on mountain lion with 2 Apple ID's?

I have an Apple ID for my mac and iCloud and one for my iPad. I am not able to add the ipad ID to my mac imessage app so I am not able to sync the messages. Is there a fix to that?
    ipad using my itunes ID
Mac using my old moblie me adapted to icloud and it is not the same as the itunes ID because it had already been taken at the time of my registration.
    Thanks

    Hi,
Right at this minute I am having a nightmare with this as well.
    I have two.
One users the older original Apple ID I was talking about and the other uses the @me.com name I created
Yesterday I notice that the older ID iPhone was saying it was not doing iMessages and needed to be set to do so.
The "Waiting for Activation" spun for ages.  My Mac Messages app had "lost" the iPhone Number.
It was late when I discovered this and today I left the phone at work.
With my Second phone it was also saying it was not Connected to the iMessages server.
It too said "waiting for Activation"
When it did send a Message to the Mac the iPhone Number here was Greyed out and I could not set it as the Send From ID.
I set it about 7.30PM here and it still says "Waiting for Activation" even thought it shows the no  present iPhone number as an Option and the two Apple IDs and I can receive and Send iMessages.
    I still can't use the iPhone's Own Number !!!
So it has been doing this for at least 2 and 1/2 hours.
Even tried resetting it with no Apple ID so it would "register" the iPhone Number.
Bizarrely it is showing the Absent iPhone's number as a Alias.
I am wondering if you can only register one iPhone Number.
I was trying to keep one iPhone out of the Sync process but it seems to have gained the other IDs whether I enter them or not.
At present I cannot work out if the apps on the iOS devices are failing, whether the Mac version is at fault or if it is a Server thing.
As it was set up and was working I am presuming the server is the issue as we also have not had Updates.
As for providing an Answer I am stuck myself right this minute.

  • How do I use my 2011 27" iMac as an external display for a pc?

I just bought a 27" imac for my home, and was also planning on using it as an external display for my work Dell Laptop running Windows 7.
The Dell laptop has a displayport output, so I was planning on getting a displayport <-> minidisplayport cable, and using the iMac in target display mode.
I would simply plug the minidisplay end of the cable into one of the iMac's 2 Thunderbolt ports. Seemed fairly simple.
Except now it seems from what I have been reading that 2011 iMacs DO NOT WORK in target display mode unless they are connected to another Thunderbolt source. This leads to me two questions.
    1. Can anyone confirm or deny this? If this is true, does that mean I cannot plug my Dell's displayport into the iMac's Thunderbolt port as I described above?
    2. If #1 is true, is there any other option? Are there any adapters that I can use to turn my Dell into a Thunderbolt source for display purposes?
If I can't resolve this I will have to return the iMac
    Thanks very much.
    David

    David,
Sorry you can't use the 2011 iMac as an external display to your PC. The feature you are referring to is called Target Display Mode and works on 2009 & 2010 27" iMacs. The 2011 machines use Thunderbolt as you know however they do support external displays that are not Thunderbolt displays. So for example if you wanted 2 displays on the iMac you can easily do that with either Mini Display port to DVI or MDP to VGA or even HDMI. MDP is the same size as Thunderbolt and this will work fine to drive a display, TV or even a projector.
I'd recommend reading Apple's explanations at Target Display Mode 2009 & 2010 iMacs & Target Display Mode Mid 2011 iMacs.
Using a Mac as an external display for a Windows machine to me seems like a horrible waste of a Mac. Why not enjoy the iMac and if anything run Windows on it and get rid of the PC?
