Anyone with a MBP that doesn't skip first character when typing?.....

Following up on a discussion on another thread: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=5930108&#5930108 about disfunctional keyboards on some MBP, just want to see how many MBP owners have no problems with either missing 1st characters when typing or any keyboard malfunctions. (These could be as simple as having to repeat a save /copy/etc.....command or having to press the spacebar again in some audio applications or any similar situation.)
Thanks

In my case the backlit keyboard feature was already disabled in the preferences and the problem still existed. I noted that if you disable it through the F keys it also disables it in the prefs, even if the prefs are open. Given that, I can't imagine it'd make a difference whether you disable it via clicking the box or using the F keys, but I'll try it out.
Also, I can't view the thread that you posted due to not having permission. But it's nice to know that the issue is being examined and a fix may be available in the near future.
Although you are right about the pref settings and the F keys relationships the opposite is not true.....if you disable the backlighting thru the system prefs you cannot reinstate them thru the Fkeys while the reverse can be done...still its now been 4hrs since I did this and I have yet to note a missed 1st key...as I use pro audio apps for show playback, I had a few instances where I would miss a cue when using the spacebar, but today, all seems fine after disabling thru system prefs. As I said this may be far fetched and may be nothing more than just coincidence. Please report back after testing on your system....

I am looking at a MacBook pro 17 early 2011 with water damage that doesn't turn on. Now t would have a voided warranty wondered if anyone knew how much apple would charge to fix. If its worth fixing?

It mostly depends on the damage that was done (the LCD, keyboard, etc) but yours does not turn on so I am assuming it was fully submerged and completely damaged. Therefore, I would think your warranty is most definitely void.
When did this happen? How bad was it? Have you taken any measures to get it to dry? You can go online and you can find tips on how to dry it at least a bit so that it is not as bad, it might not get it to work, but it can help you prevent rusting, which would cause further damage thus reducing the probability of getting repaired/replaced. Also, do not try to turn it on unless you have tried to dry it as it will damage it even more (electricity + water = destruction). I would suggest giving this a try, and if it is still not working then it is probably worth a try with Apple, just go in for a consultation in terms of pricing. If they seem too high and/or the warranty is void, then you can opt for after-market products which significantly reduce the repair costs... as you would have nothing to lose anyway in terms of warranty.
It's $3,000, that pays my rent. Even investing $1,000 would be better than just not giving it a try at all lol.

    Hello BassoonPlayer,
Since you are using one of the the school's Macbooks, it is quite possible that the time and date are not properly set on the computer that you are using.  FaceTime will not work if you do not have the proper time zone set up for the location that you are in.  This past week, there were a two other Macbook users I've helped by simply telling them to set the Date/Time properly.  By the way, you described your problem very well, which makes it easier for us to help you.  Hope this solves your problem -- if not, post back and I can suggest other remedies.

The music sync is one way - computer to iphone.  The only exception is itunes purchases.  File>Transfer Purchases
It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer for just such an occasion.  Use your backup copy to move everything to your new computer.

Hello, I got a new computer with the old harddisk. Can't play my itunes music because not authorised. Apple ID is very old e-mail adress that doesn't exist anymore and I forgot the password (5 years old??). When chose for secret question birth date seems wrong. Tried everything. I need to make a new apple-id but cannot connect the music that I bought under my old name to my new name. Can't reach anyone!!! Automatic FAQ system is of no help. What to do?

That doesn't help me. For itunes it brings me to the express lane which doesn't help because my case is not in it. It's all standard procedure things. I understand those but my situation is different. The combination of a passport forgotten and an non-existing email adress (and birth dates that are not correct or not accepted). What I need is my password emailed to another email adress than the original one because that no longer exists.

  • Problems with SKIP FIRST Screen when calling a transaction variant

    Hi,
I have a transaction variant of VA02 that suppresses the display of the pricing button on the conditions screen. I have created a variant transaction for called ZA02 which calls this variant of VA02.
In my program I have coded the following :-
SET PARAMETER ID 'AUN' FIELD  VBELN.
SET PARAMETER ID 'VPO' FIELD  POSNR.
CALL TRANSACTION 'ZA02' AND SKIP FIRST SCREEN.
I would have expected the program to display the second screen of VA02 but it displays the first screen and when I hit return key the second screen is then displayed.
I don't think I need VPO setting but when I code
SET PARAMETER ID 'AUN' FIELD  VBELN.
SET PARAMETER ID 'VPO' FIELD  POSNR.
CALL TRANSACTION 'VA02' AND SKIP FIRST SCREEN.
    VA02's second screen is displayed
Any help as to how to Skip this first screen with ZA02 would be greatly appreciated
    Thanks
    Rous

Yes you are right Reg thanks for that.
But it appears that VA02 doesn't require it setting anyway. I changed the PID to APO and indeed I've even commented the line out, but my program goes to the second screen when calling VA02 but stays on the first screen when calling ZA02 .

  • Update on my MBP that was shutting off last week when I got it....

I just replied to the guy with the same problem but I will add it here as well since I didnt post in a while about it - I have been really busy with school and packing for SB. After I spoke with him on Thurs about returning it, I haven't used it since because it shuts off way too often now. It has been in the box for days.
2 hours after I got it and was using it, it would shut off for no reason. It happened like every 2 hours but then became more frequent - like every few minutes. I called Apple and I requested a new computer. The man said ok after asking me to do a bunch of things, one being the disk utility cd. It actually turned off while I was doing this so he heard first hand I guess I can say..... I was speaking with an expert.. not just the first person you talk to, but they transfer you to someone else. In any event he said his engineers wanted the computer - apparently I was the first case like this.
They are sending me address labels so I can return it. They told me within a few days of them receiving it I should have a new one. I was concerned I would have to wait a long time but he said I was on the top of the list. He keeps telling me that they will take care of me... very nice guy. He even gave me his direct number for any problems I have.
He said it is probably the logic board.... He asked if I installed ram because that could have been the problem too but I didnt. I was hoping I was an isolated case but I guess not.... Now I have to worry the next one will do the same thing!
Even if it did it once call Apple because it is obviously a problem. They are great though so it shouldnt be too long for a new one.

I actually haven't had any problems today.. its been running well, although I haven't had much time to use it today.. but so far, it has not shut down.. it did 3 times yesterday within 2 hours of taking it out of the box.. but i plan on holding onto my MBP for at least a couple of days..if it works well..then just hold onto it until the problem reoccurs..
as for the "buzzing".. i noticed that it goes away when i fully charge the battery and keep the mag safe connected.. once i take out the mag safe.. the buzzing comes right back.
one suggestion that some people mentioned on these boards are to use the "mirror" widget.. you don't even have to keep it..you can use it once and then delete it.. after you use it, you shouldn't notice the 'buzzing'.. BUT.. once you use the isight again (like for photo booth)..you will notice the buzzing. again, with this issue, i'm just going to wait and not send in my MBP right away and wait til 1.) apple figures out for sure what the problem is and 2.) there is less demand for MBP in which case, i wouldn't have to wait some 3-4 weeks to get my MBP fixed

  • Automator query: I want to batch process with a program that doesn't offer batch processing.

After much searching and experimenting I'm resorting to asking the direct question to see if you good folks can help me.
I would like to be able to automate some image processing with the software "SketchMee". Unfortunately this is not something that the stand alone can do on it's own. I assume Otto can help me. I would like to essentially have a directory with "raw" (unprocessed) images. Have automator...
    1. open file in SketchMee (SketchMee will automatically render with previous settings)
    2. save new file in new directory
    3. repeat 100's and/or 1000's of times.
Seems pretty straight forward but I'm having trouble making it happen.
Does anyone have any advice or info for me here?
Note: this is not a process that can be done in iPhoto, Photoshop or Graphics Convertor.

Way better, IMHO of course, is Photoshop Elements.  It is not free but you can find deals on it but if not it really isn't too expensive.  For the amateur or advanced amateur it is far better than DPP (free included software) and even Lightroom.
Lightroom is designed more for a person that takes 1000's and 10,000's of photos.  It has limited editing featuers.
PSE is also more user friendly that full blown Photoshop.  Which you can not purchase any longer as it must be rented from Abode on a monthly basis.
There is the free Gimpshop but it is the least user friendly of the bunch and has a steep learning curve.  But it is free.
Lightzone is a free copy-cat version of Lightroom.
But when you are ready for the best photo editing and RAW conversion software there is, there is nothing at the top except Photoshop.

  • TS1538 iPod Touch with blank screen that doesn't shut off and not recognized by iTunes?

I opened the app "MyTown 2", and it stayed on the opening screen for about 5 minutes - WAYYY too long! So I tried to close the app. A slight grayscale sort of film "slid" down over the opening screen, and then it went to this light gray, completely blank screen. It's been that way for over an hour - no matter what I do, can't do a hard shut down, and the device is not recognized by iTunes at all. It's completely DEAD!!!! Is there any hope? Anyone have a clue?

Following the instructions in this procedure to the letter. Here they are, with emphasis on some easily overlooked requirements:
Disconnect the USB cable from the iPod Touch, but leave the other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to turn off.If you cannot turn off the device using the slider, press and hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the same time. When the device turns off, release only the Sleep/Wake button.
Continue pressing and holding the Home button while you reconnect the USB cable to the device. The device should turn on.Note: If you see the "low battery" screen, let the device charge for at least ten minutes to ensure that the battery has some charge, and then start with step 2 again.
Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen. When this screen appears (iTunes icon and USB connector) release the Home button.
If necessary, open iTunes. You should see the "recovery mode" alert ("iTunes has detected a phone in recovery mode").
Use iTunes to restore the device.
If you do not see the "Connect to iTunes" screen, try these steps again. If you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen but the device does not appear in iTunes, see this article and its related links.
Select the device in iTunes and choose "restore from backup".
If you still can't get it to work, you have done all you can and only Apple will be able to help.

  • Web-services Error with 6.1sp3 that doesn't occur with sp2

I have recently began testing of our application using the newly released weblogic
server 6.1 sp3. I took our existing compiled ear file and generated web-services
client.jar file from our last weblogic 6.1 sp2 compile, deployed it on the new
install of 6.1 sp3 and everything worked great.
Then, I went to make some coding changes and recompiled my application using the
6.1 sp3 binaries. Now, whenever I try to make a web-services call, I get the
    following exception:
    java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: weblogic/net/http/HttpsURLConnection
This error seems to be occurring on the following statement:
    WebServiceProxy proxy = WebServiceProxy.createService(new java.net.URL( webProxyUrl
The strange part of the error is that my url is http://... and not https://.
Also, in my wsgen statement for ant, it states the protocol as http.
Regardless, If I replace the generated client.jar with the old client.jar generated
from 6.1sp2, it works just fine.
Has anyone else experienced this problem?
    Thanks,
    Brian Butler

I wonder if you have mix up in installing different versions of LabView/nidaq
LabView 5.1.1 requires daqdrv file to access daq, the file is automatically added to the suport files when you use the application builder to make an exe file
    where as
LabView 6 and above requires Lvdaq.dll

  • What do I do with a 5s that doesn't work

What do I do with a new 5s that simply doesn't work?  This is the 3rd new 5s I've had in the past 5 weeks, and I haven't had one work yet.  This is obvously not a hardware problem, which I'm sure makes it harder to solve, but at this point I'm left with a very expensive, nearly useless object that no one at Apple seems too concerned about.  At this point, I'm left to simply call in every once in a while to see if my case is still even active, since no one contacts me about it.  It's been looked at by various senior advisors and "engineers".  Without all the history, a simple summary of the problems would be as follows:
The phone shuts off or freezes with almost any function, has been doing this for over 5 weeks.  This includes during phone calls, using GPS, using camera, using App Store, using Calendar...uh, using anything. Phone is unable to sync with my Mac, and has not been able to load any of my music.  Other than that, it's perfect.
What options do I have, if any, at this point?  Samsung, Droid?  I've been a loyal Apple customer for some time, but I'm exhausted.

Sorry for the 'tone', I was getting a bit frustrated!
When I try to use Creative Cloud installer or App Manager, the installer times out after about 3 minutes and gives a message telling me to connect to the Internet and try again. This is strange since I am obviously connected to the Internet, I am using the Adobe website so I must be! I just downloaded the installer without any problem.
Please help as I can't download any actual product updates without this it seems.
    Cheers

  • IPod stuck on Apple logo with loading bar that doesn't move.

My iPod won't turn on so i tried to factory reset it, and it is stuck on the apple logo with a loading bar that's empty and wont move. iTunes also says "Waiting for iPod." Help please!

First, try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  It could take well over an hour!  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow the on-screen directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod.  As before, say "yes."  Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time.  If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device.  Corrective action is simple -  choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.
If you're unable to do the Restore, go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here.

  • I am trying to change the Apple ID on my old iPhone 5c but it wants a password for an old Apple ID with and email that doesn't exist anymore

MMy old iPhone 5c is wanting a password for logging into my apple account. The problem is that the email address its tied to doesn't exist anymore. I changed the email to a different one. But can't figure out how to change the email address on the phone to the new email address.

The fact that the email address doesn't exist anymore doesn't matter. As far as the Apple ID is concerned, the email address is just a user name. As long as you know the password you used, it should be fine.
If you don't remember the password, start here:
