Anything "like" Events in new Photos

I am really disappointed in the new Photos application. I miss having my Events where only one photo was visible. I know Photos has "Moments" however, I don't want ALL of my photos visible. I might have some very personal photos that I don't want people to see while I'm looking for a certain occasion. Does anyone know of a setting or something that will allow me to bring back something like Events?
I will be using iPhoto until this is fixed and if not. I will use iPhoto indefinitely and continue working with Photoshop.

I agree. It's really frustrating having to scroll through 34k+ photos to get to the newest ones!
Although I can get to iCloud Events, it's in a fixed chronological order, and can't be changed.
And will all new imports go into Events?
Looks like this app will need a lot of sorting.
Surely the Beta programme should have unearthed these fundamental issues?

  • Where can I find the "event" information I had in iPhoto events in new photos app?

Just upgraded to OS X and the new Photos app and I am having a hard time adjusting from iPhoto where I had (happily) organized years of photos into events. I can see my 771 "events" now called albums in a sub-album called "iPhoto events" HOWEVER, I cannot seem to find/view the little notes or summaries of event information that I had inputted in iPhoto.  I often wrote a brief (or detailed) bit of information, anecdotes or fond memories about various "events" and now I am frustrated that might all be gone. Can anyone help?

Oops Sorry Jumped the gun again! i found out how to do it. I was using my jot touch styles which mean you have to hold down the icon on the upper left with the styles then use your fingers to do the pinch and zoom gesture to make it work

  • New "Photos" is a piece of JUNK!  How do I get my image numbers to display as imported like they used to? Can no longer make Events or view old events as before either.

How do I get my image numbers to display as imported like they used to? Can no longer make Events or view old events as before either.
If this is replacing Aperture and previous iPhoto it is USELESS...WAY fewer options for editing available. New "Photos" is a piece of JUNK!

    Hi.
I have just migrated my library from Aperture to photos. All seems to have gone smoothly, except for one thing. All of my photos are 'untitled', whereas in both Aperture, and previously iPhoto, the filename was used for the title. If I hit CMD+I and get info, the title is still there as the filename, as I use the filename for all titles.
Is there a way to batch copy all filenames as photo titles, this was done automatically in Aperture and iPhoto, as when photos were imported the filename was used automatically.
    Any help appreciated.
    Thanks.

I have copied many photo's from another laptop to my Mac.  The older photo's are in directories with names that help me select what I need to view. I would like to have all my imported new photo's also bee added to the directory structure I have in Finder but my new photo's are all in iPhoto.  I want to use directories for storing and iPhoto for viewing.  Is this possible or do I need to have all my photo's in iPhoto??

iPhoto is not a Photo Viewer. It's a Photo Manager and designed for looking after the files while you organise the Photos. It really works much better if you let it manage those files. If you use iPhoto you never go near those files because iPhoto is your start point for anything you want to do with your Photos - the point of the pplication.
You can run iPhoto in Referenced mode, where it does not copy the files to the Library, but I caution you that you are making life a lot more difficult for yourself by doing that.
How to, and some comments on why you shouldn't, are in this thread

  • My daugther' iphone id under my wife's email and now all music and pictures are attached to that id.  Wife now has an ipad and looking at using the existing id for set up? Would like to establish new id for daughter and not lose or share music/photos?

My daugther' iphone apple id is under my wife's email and now all music and pictures are attached to that id.  My wife now has an ipad and I am looking at using the existing id during set up?   Thus, I would like to establish new apple id for daughter, associated to her email account, however I do not want to lose or share her music/photos, nor share with my wife's id.  Is this possible, or is it best just to establish a new id for my wife, and then change the email address associated with the existing apple id?

well if you establish a new apple id for your wife that would be best unless you email all of the existing photos to your email and then when you have established a new id then you log into your email on the new id and save all of your pics onto it by pressing on tthe pic for about 5-8 seconds then options will come up and you press the save to my album ..as for the music if you can copy and paste, through computer, the songs then awesome!

  • How do i create a new Event in the new Photos?

I have imported some photos into my new Photos library but unlike before they don't show up as an Event. How do i create a new Event and move them into this Event?

You don't.  Moments in Photos are the new Events, i.e. groupings of photos sorted by date taken.
When the iPhoto Library was first migrated to Photos there was a folder created in the sidebar titled iPhoto Events and all migrated iPhoto Events (which are now Moments) are represented by an album in that folder. To open the sidebar if it's not already open use the Option+Command+S key combination.
There's a way to simulate events in Photos.
When new photos are imported into the Photos library go to the Last Import smart album, select all the photos and use the File ➙ New Album menu option or use the key combination Command+N.  Name it as desired.  It will appear just above the iPhoto Events folder where you can drag it into the iPhoto Events folder
When you click on the iPhoto Events folder you'll get a simulated iPhoto Events window.
The downside to the simulation is that the Albums/Events can only be sorted automatically by Title. But they can also be sorted manually, either in the sidebar or in the folder's window at the right.
Ask Apple for more sorting options in Photos via https://www.apple.com/feedback/photos.html.

  • How do I update the browser on the MacBookPro?  I would like to get newer version of Safari; however, if that is not possible, is there a version of anything that I can get for MAC OS 10.5.8?

    Hi kwalker08865,
It would appear that the most recent version of Safari that is compatible with OS X 10.5.8 would be Safari 5.0.6. If this would meet your needs, you can find more information and a download link on the following page:
    Safari 5.0.6 for Leopard

  • Importing new Photo events from iPad to iPhoto '11

    Hi,
I've recently bought the iPad Camera Connection Kit and I used it to import some photos from my camera: this process ended up creating a new event named with the date of the import (I haven't found a way to rename it so far) and an album called "Last import".
I thought that the new event would have been transferred to iPhoto '11 during the next sync with my MacBook. However I found out that's not so: I tried syncing my iPad both via wifi and USB, but the new event doesn't show up in iPhoto '11.
What should I do? Even clicking on "iPad", in iPhoto '11, it shows me only the photos that are in the camera roll...

thank you very much for helping me!
I eventually found out the solution to my problem: however I think it's really non-userfriendly and complicated.
I'll explain everything so that it can be useful for others who are in the same situation as me: I eventually found out that in iPhoto (on the Mac) you see all the photos in your iPad Camera Roll plus all the photos you've imported via the Camera Connection Kit (but they are all mixed up, not divided into albums/folders/whatever...). So if you want to import to iPhoto on your Mac the new photos that are on the iPad you have to manually select them in iPhoto an click on "Import selected...". Then you can rename the event and do whatever you want.
But that's nat all: when you re-sync your iPad iTunes "detects" a new event in iPhoto so it is automatically transferred into the iPad......so you end up by having (on the iPad) two events that contain the same identical photos: the one created automatically when the photos where imported through the Kit and another one imported during the sync process. In order to delete the first one you have to go to Albums and tap on "Last Import", than you have to manually select all the photos and finally delete them: in this way the event "magically" disappears.
I don't know if I've been clear enough but, as the whole process i so complicated, I think there's no other way to explain it.
However I'm very disappointed and in my opinion this is a really frustrating thing that Apple should fix asap!!

  • No new photo imports are showing up in my Events window, though they do appear in the All Photos window.

For a month or two, whenever I import photos from any source into iPhoto, the new event does not appear in the Events window though I can find it in the Photos window. This happened about the same time I upgraded to Lion. I'm running an iMac with the latest version of everything. What can I do to get my events back?

If they are in the Photos Window then they are in Events too. Photos and Events are just two views of the same material.
Select one of the pics in the  iPhoto Window, right click on it and use the 'Show Event' option.
Usual cause: View menu -> Sort Events option has changed.

  • New event without any photos inside

I have problems in creating new events in my photo library. When I drag some pictures into Iphoto and create a new event, this folder does not include any photos available (it's empty), while its preview (in the first page) of iphoto is related to an event which already existed in my library.

Back up your iPhoto library, Depress and hold the option (alt) and command keys and launch iPhoto - from the resulting first aid window repair permissions, rebuild thumbnails  and if necessary rebuild your database

  • How do I create new photo albums in iphone? why isn't it organized like in the iPad?

How do I create new photo albums in iphone? why isn't it organized like in the iPad?

You can't create new albums on the iPad either. The user interface looks different, but the functionality is essentially the same.
The route is to create new albums on the desktop, and then sync via iTunes.

  • Does the new Photo app duplicate images on import (wasting drive space), or simply reference them like Picasa does?

Picasa simply references the original images, and any edits you make to the images leaves the original unharmed. This is the grown-up way to manage images. iPhoto and all, I really mean ALL other photo apps make this mistake of duplication of images on import - but not Picasa. I had iPhoto crash numerous times because it could not handle a large number of images. Picasa is way better than any Apple app thus far - so I'm wondering - does this new Photo app make the same mistake as all the others except Picasa? If it does duplication on imports, then it's doing it wrong.

Instead of instinctively condescending like a grouch, you could have simply replied with the right answer and made me look bad, instead you only made yourself look bad Terence The Devil.
The real answer is that there is an option in the preferences that allows one to select whether to copy images in or just reference them.
Under Importing all one has to do is Un-check the "Copy items to the Photos Library" setting.
The only issue I have at this point is that it should be un-checked as a default.
