Anything similiar to Beat Detective in LP7?

I'm looking for a way to chop up a loop similar to the way that Beat Detective in ProTools works. If you are unfamiliar, it basically analyzes the loop that you have and places markers at the locations where it thinks each sound in the beat is (at the transients). Is there an option like this that will place markers at the transients but also allow me to adjust those markers before dividing the segments into individual regions? And then after that... is there an easy way to replace sounds like SoundReplacer?

Okay, so we know there is the strip silence method and then quantize to whatever groove thing. This is pretty cool, but what about for drum loops with alot of cymbal where there isn't much silence? Also how can I replace sounds?

  • ADOBE AIR BEAT DETECTION

    I am writing an Air app that needs audio beat detection and I need some really great resources.  I am NOT trying to do something simple like make images twitch when there is a peak in an audio file.  I need to be able to identify both the beats and overall rhythmic tempo of an audio file, not just when there is a cymbal crash or a drum hit.  This will likely require spectrum analysis, Fast Fourier Transforms, and other bytearray analysis.  This will be a function that will only be responsible for analyzing an audio file, it does not need to be lightning fast because there will be no audio streaming associated with this analysis.
    Unfortunately, this is college thesis level science that I don't know anything about nor have years to study.  So I need to get up to speed quickly and am reaching out for resources, math equations, books, or contacts who might be able to shed some light on this for me.  Any thoughts, knowledge, contacts or help would be hugely appreciated!
    Thanks!

  • Beat Detective Fans, I Have a Process That May Interest You.

    Hi All,
    As you may have realised by now, I've been trying to obtain Beat Detective functionality in Logic for a while (not sure why because I try to use it as little as possible but, I was bored), and have posted a few different techniques to do with this matter.
    I've found a way to get similar results, using Logic, and a mixture of Audio to Score, Beat Mapping and regular Quantize. Please let me know if this process works for you.
    I started by taking a drum track, recorded with multiple mics. It was recorded to a click and was quite tight, but not machine like tight in the way most A&R like things now (sigh). So what I did was this, and I only investigated this briefly ok so forgive me if it doesn't work for you:
    -Take the bass drum channel for this instance, could be snare, could be a mix.
    -Open up the sample editor.
    -Open Audio to score, and get it to create a score/midi part from the bass drum hits and sit it on a channel nearby.
    -Then using the beat mapping Global Track, analyze the midi file, NOT the audio file of the bass drum track using 1/4 bar division.
    -This SHOULD create a tempo map making every 1/4 beat land on a bass drum beat.
    -Select all the audio that is to be Quantized, eg Kick, Snare, Toms, Overheads, etc. And Option+Scissor cut a 1/4 beat into the region, causing Logic to cut on every 1/4 beat throughout the song.
    -Now you see the drums seperated at every bass drum beat throughout the track.
    -Then Lock all these regions to SMPTE, use the tempo track's alternative tempo to switch it back to the tempo the song was recorded at, in my case 130BPM. The midi and beat map will look odd now, but the audio should stay where it was and fit back the original click.
    -Now you can use the event list to quantize all the regions to whatever division you want and all the channels of audio will stay in sync and maintain phase accuracy.
    What I like to do then is while selecting all applicable regions roll back the left corner a little to smooth out any double attacks or gaps, and fade the lot with small (5ms-20ms) equal power fades.
    You can of course create multiple midi parts from the kick, snare and whatever else and merge them before using beap mapping to trigger from more than just one channel.
    Do let me know if this works for you, like I said I tried it briefly but think it should work.
    Dave

    Hi
    I've been trying this method, combined with the Tab to Transient ideas on another thread, for cutting up drums that are a bit 'wobbly' and not played to a click.
    I've found the simplest solution is to marquee the bass drum and snare drum tracks, tab down the song cutting on the transients (apple backslash cuts everything on the screen), skipping over the breaks to adjust later. Then locking to smpte, I highlight 8 bars or so and find the average tempo and set the grid to near that, and hard quantize the lot, or maybe verse by verse if I want to keep an eye on what's happening..
    This way I have all the beats hard on the grid as a starting point, and I can play with the tempo, add midi drums easily or apply a groove template, but I can always get back to a recognizable rhythm.
    Before this method, , I would cut the beats using strip silence, but the transients were inside the cut sections so they did not line up exactly to the grid which made adding midi drums difficult.
    And when i tried the audio to score and make a beat map out of the midi notes then cut on the quarter notes, I still found it faster to cut on the transients than dragging the yellow lines to the beats. in fact i managed to sidestep beat mapping altogether.
    One question though,
    -Then using the beat mapping Global Track, analyze the midi file, NOT the audio file of the bass drum track using 1/4 bar division.
    -This SHOULD create a tempo map making every 1/4 beat land on a bass drum beat.
    implies a simple button press, but I can't find it so reverted to manually doing the beat mapping similar to beat mapping audio.
    Is there a fast solution to beat mapping midi or is it the same as audio?

  • Where is the Beat Detection feature in Adobe Premiere Pro?

    Dear community,
    Adobe Premiere Elements sports a cool Beat Detection feature, unfortunately the Pro version doesn’t.
    Why is that? And why can't paying CC subscribers use the Elements version for free? Or do I miss something?
    Kind regards,
    Tim

    Hi Aquarius1994,
    Go to your scratch disk and check what is the location of Captured audio and video and search in that location. I have also added a screen shot.

    +"I do hope that no one has been overly offended by my outrageous misconduct."+
    Apparently not! And if you had said all that right away (& not posted nearly-identical posts) I'm sure no-one would have raised an eyebrow.
    As Bee Jay has pointed out, this is a Pro Tools feature. I guess from your questions that what you actually want to know is: +"what is the nearest equivalent to Pro Tools' Beat Detective, in Logic?"+
    I reckon that would have got you a better class of reply. Still, the 'nerdy put-down' response is a venerable tradition which we have to play our part in maintaining.
    If I'm right, then you have your answer above; Beat Mapping includes the detection of transients. There's a whole chapter devoted to it in the manual.
    If I'm wrong, then please clarify & we'll rally round to assist — because that's what we most like to do.

  • Opening Logic Files with Pro Tools/Mbox 2 Micro to Use 'Beat Detective'

    Is this possible?
    Just wanna tighten up some acoustic drum tracks
    with Beat Detective.
    If so, will I be able to use the new Mbox 2 Micro?
    Thanks a bunch...

    this is the correct procedure, as stated make SURE they all start from '0' and that you have the correct tempo entered in protools, and not JUST in the transport bar, but in the main tempo track itself.
    also, im assuming you know the limitations of PT LE's beat detective (only one stereo or mono track at a time) unless you have the Music Prod or the Complete Production Toolkit. but there are workarounds to make it work, youll have to check the Digi user confrence boards for that. the to go back to logic you just consolidate the files starting at '0' and export them out.

  • Easiest way to sync 2 audio tracks - detect beats?

    I record bands using a camcorder and simultaneously record hi quality audio using a multi-track recorder.  My previous software automatically recognized that the audio tracks were similar and sync'ed them for me.  So far...  trying to sync my hi fidelity MP3 with the camcorder audio/video has been difficult.  I tried using "beat detect" but I don't see how to use that on 2 different audio tracks to sync them.  Once they are synched, I delete the camcorder audio and I am left with the same video with awesome audio.  What is the easiest/fastest way to sync 2 virtually identical audio tracks?

    Thanks for the WAV file tip.  I zoom in as far as I can (unless I'm missing something) and I rarely see the waveform.  The attached graphic shows one of the tracks as a very "low resolution" waveform (I see no way to accurately line up tracks using this waveform).  I hoped to use "detect beats" on both tracks to, at least, get close.  Is there a way to expand the waveforms vertically so I can actually see the waves and align them?  I'm trying to align Audio 1 and Audio 2.  This is what I see:

  • Net-auto-wireless isn't really doing anything

    I've got netcfg installed and I'm trying to use it for my wifi configuration on my laptop which has an ath9k wireless chip.
    I've got my profiles (WPA personal) setup just fine, when I do netcfg my.profile.name it brings it up and it works. However if my wireless drops for whatever reason, or I come to work, I always have to manually do "netcfg profile".
    In my rc.conf I have nothing in INTERFACES (only have wlan0 on this machine), I have WIRELESS_INTERFACE defined as wlan0, I have two profiles in NETWORKS, and I have "syslog-ng hal net-auto-wireless netfs crond" in my DAEMONS list.
    Can anyone see anything that I'm doing wrong? How does net-auto-wireless actually work?

    Okay I can't get it to automatically connect neither to wired no wireless network.
    ifplugd at least is trying to connect to networks, I can see in /var/log/everything that but wpa_actiond simply sits there silently and does nothing.
    When run manually, either via rc.d/net-auto-wireless or directly, it connects to a wireless access point immediately. No problem here.
    So, basically I had gone through the following scenario today. Went to work office, plugged in ethernet cable, ifplugd tried to connect to any of the networks specified in the profiles but failed to for whatever reason. No meaningful explanation. All it said was this:
    Jan 27 09:44:57 localhost ifplugd(eth0)[27597]: ifplugd 0.28 initializing.
    Jan 27 09:44:57 localhost ifplugd(eth0)[27597]: Using interface eth0/00:13:77:49:00:BE with driver <8139too> (version: 0.9.28)

    Jan 27 09:45:09 localhost ifplugd(eth0)[27597]: client: loadin st-wifi
    Jan 27 09:45:09 localhost ifplugd(eth0)[27597]: client: loadin uncle-wifi
    Jan 27 09:45:09 localhost ifplugd(eth0)[27597]: Program execution failed, return value is 1.
    Jan 27 09:47:39 localhost ifplugd(eth0)[27597]: Executing '/etc/ifplugd/netcfg.action eth0 down'.
    Jan 27 09:47:39 localhost ifplugd(eth0)[27597]: Program execution failed, return value is 1.
    Jan 27 09:47:39 localhost ifplugd(eth0)[27597]: Exiting.
    So, I had to do netcfg -u $PROFILE to set up network connection manually. Then I went back home, where I use wireless ap to connect to the home LAN, I saw ifplugd detect that ethernet had been down so it properly unconfigured eth0, again /var/log/everything clearly stated that
    Jan 27 14:03:00 localhost ifplugd(eth0)[28240]: Link beat lost.
    Jan 27 14:03:11 localhost ifplugd(eth0)[28240]: Executing '/etc/ifplugd/netcfg.action eth0 down'.
    Jan 27 14:03:11 localhost ifplugd(eth0)[28240]: Program execution failed, return value is 1.
    but nothing was happening for wireless interface at all. This was registered in the log when I got bored with netcfg/wpa_actiond not doing my job for me so I ran /etc/rc.d/net-auto-wireless restart which configured wireless network connection:
    Jan 27 14:12:59 localhost wpa_actiond[4401]: Starting wpa_actiond session for interface 'wlan0'
    Jan 27 14:13:00 localhost wpa_actiond[4401]: Interface 'wlan0' connected to network '$ESSID'
    I think my configuration is correct but well I could've missed something of course. So, to save us time:
    - all profiles are in /etc/network.d/. one of these looks like this:
    % cat /etc/network.d/home-wifi
    CONNECTION='wireless'
    DESCRIPTION='A simple WPA encrypted wireless connection using a static IP'
    INTERFACE='wlan0'
    SECURITY='wpa'
    ESSID='$ESSID'
    KEY='$KEY'
    IP='static'
    IPCFG=('addr add dev wlan0 $CIDR/IP brd +' 'route add default via $IP')
    DNS=('$IP')
    POST_UP="sh /home/$USER/scripts/netcfg-home-post"
    - /etc/rc.conf:
    # net-auto-wireless support
    WIRELESS_INTERFACE="wlan0"
    WIRED_INTERFACE="eth0"
    DAEMONS=(... !network @net-profiles net-auto-wireless net-auto-wired ...)
    no ROUTES, no INTERFACES. Clean and neat. No syntax errors.
    Software installed:
    ifplugd 0.28-7
    wpa_actiond 1.1-1
    netcfg 2.5.4-1
    So far the problem is that ifplugd can't connect to a wired network, but at least it attempts to, while wpa_actiond does nothing at all.
    I really want my laptop to do this automatically. It's like... you know... 2011 already! Computers must do this stuff xD

  • Reason beat tempo not syncing with Logic Tempo???

    Hi,
    Made a beat in Reason 5
    Exported loop at 137 bpm and saved to external hard drive.
    Imported loop into Logic with Logic tempo set at 137 bpm.
    Set the metronome on for recording. Pressed record and and beat & metronome are out of sync.
    I used beat detection to try find the tempo (said it was 137.1672 or something) yet still the metronome & beat go out of sync...
    Any ideas?
    I'm going to try saving the beat to the internal harddrive and see if that is the problem.
    The external hard drive is USB not firewire.
    Hope you can help me...

    to bring your reason audio into logic in perfect sync, open reason as a rewire slave to logic and set up a logic aux track input to reason L&R. Set your locators in logic to the loop length and bounce (with "add to audio bin" enabled so its easy to drag it into your song). This locks the 2 clocks together. Which drive your audio is on is irrelevant.

  • New feature idea - Beat Grid

    Hi all,
    I've got an idea for a new feature and thought I'd post it here in case other people agree that it's a good idea and would like to submit a feature request to help get it noticed.
    Beat Grid
    It would be useful to be able to overlay a grid of vertical lines onto the timeline which show the positions of musical beats and bars.  This would assist with positioning keyframes and edit points in projects that are based around music.
    You would need to be able to specify a tempo, time signature, and an offset.  Beats should be shown with one colour or thickness of line, with downbeats coloured differently or a different thickness, and it should be an option to snap keyframes to the beat grid.
    Musical synchronisation forms the basis of a huge amount of motion graphics work, and therefore I think this feature would be very useful and popular.  (My current method is to put beat markers on the audio layer, but making a grid overlay as part of the user interface would be a much neater/easier method.)
    Here's a mock-up of how I imagine it looking: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/1388508/BeatGridMockup.jpg
    The green lines represent downbeats (i.e. the first beat of a bar), and the yellow ones are individual beats.
     Ideally you'd be able to interactively drag the green downbeat lines to offset the position of the whole grid, and drag the yellow beat lines to change the grid spacing (i.e. tempo), as well as entering numeric values.  These should be saved per comp rather than being a global grid setting, and appearance should be configurable as a general AE preference (eg line colours).
    An extension of this could be automatic beat detection to configure the grid, but to be honest it wouldn't be difficult to set it up manually if implemented the way I've described above.
    If you think this would be useful, please post a feature request at Adobe - Feature Request/Bug Report Form .  I'm sure this would be relatively easy for the team to implement and be a huge time saver for many of us.
    Cheers,
    Phil

    Hi Dave,
    Yes I'm familiar with those terms, and appreciate what you're saying, but I don't think this would 'severely limit' the use of a beat/timeline grid.
    There's plenty of music out there that does have a consistent tempo (particularly electronic music, and library music which is usually produced on computer), and there are also plenty of occasions when it would be useful to have a time-interval grid, even when music isn't being used.    (I've started thinking of it as a 'timeline grid' rather than a 'beat grid' now.
    What I'm proposing is not a plugin, but a simple addition to the user interface - a grid you can turn on and off, just like the grid in the comp viewer.
    Personally, with the work I do, I would benefit from such a feature like this on an almost daily basis, hence why I'm putting the idea out there in the hope that other people agree.

  • Trouble Beat Mapping

    Hey Guys,
    Today is my first attempt at beat mapping and I'm having trouble.
    1. I import the WAV file I want to beat map.
    2. Select the WAV file
    3. Select --> Tempo --> Adjust Tempo Using Beat Detection
    All the potential results it gives is quite off.
    The song is Timbaland's 'Morning After Dark.'
    By clicking a 'beat' app on my phone, it shows the tempo is around 118 --- however the Logic Beat Mapping is saying it's around 125.1537 ... Clearly it's off from the song.
    Is there any other way to beat map?
    you may think, "well, just use 118..." That doesn't work however as it needs to be exact and have the metronome stay with the song the entire way...
    ...And plus it needs to match up the first beat of the WAV wit hthe first beat of the session, rather than having WAV Silence.
    Thanks guys!
    --Sean
    p.s. Logic 9 is what I'm using!

    the Logic Beat Mapping is saying it's around 125.1537
    You're using the term Beat Mapping in a way that's different from the way that term is used inside Logic (and this happens a lot). Maybe a better term for what you're doing would be tempo detection.
    Beat Mapping in Logic normally involves dealing with material that embodies a varying tempo. This song you mentioned has a steady tempo, so Logic's Beat Mapping feature isn't really relevant. You're just trying to find out the tempo, which is something simpler.
    Unfortunately, Logic is bad at tempo detection, as you have noticed. It's bad at this when you use the "Adjust Tempo Using Beat Detection" command (which is what you used), and it's also bad at this when you use the BPM Counter plugin. So I would advise you to never waste any time with those features (unless the audio material you're evaluating is painfully simple, like a click track).
    But it really doesn't matter much, because there are lots of other ways to achieve tempo detection. One example is what you did: use a program that lets you tap a tempo. (Logic also has a kind of Tap Tempo feature, but I suggest you ignore that, too.) Tapping a tempo can be done with this handy web site. It can also be done with the BPMCalc program.
    If you would prefer something more automatic (and why not), you can try this free program which does a nice job of automatic tempo detection.
    Another approach, inside Logic, is to cut a region of a specific size (e.g., 4 bars), and then use the Adjust Tempo Using Region Length and Locators command. This command works well. It's explained on p. 599 (pdf). The explanation is not terribly clear, so if you have any questions, just ask.
    There are some other useful techniques for tempo detection inside Logic, but I won't get into that right now.
    By clicking a 'beat' app on my phone, it shows the tempo is around 118
    I think you must be a pretty good tapper. When I use various methods to determine the tempo for that song, the number I come up with is 117.9873 bpm. (That excess precision is admittedly pointless; I could have said 117.98 or 117.99 and it would make no practical difference.)
    it needs to match up the first beat of the WAV wit hthe first beat of the session
    For various reasons I usually find that it's a good idea to leave a measure or more of silence at the start of a project. Later on when you bounce, you're not obligated to include this silence in the bounce.
    The main thing is to make sure the first beat of the region matches up with the start of a measure. That is, if the first beat of the song is a downbeat (the first beat of a measure). In this song, that happens to be the case.
    To match it up right, you just need to zoom in, and then slide the region to the left or right, to make the first beat line up visibly with a bar line. If you set the tempo to the number I mentioned, and then slide the region the way I just said, I think you'll find that the metronome will sound just right.
    Things get more interesting when you pick a record that embodies a varying tempo (which is more common with older records, but it still happens). If you run into that and you have questions, just ask.

  • Detect possible webcam resolutions

    Happy New Year to everybody!
    So, I searched forums and googled and not found anything on how to detect the Webcam supported resolutions in flash.
    The whole issue stems from the issue when I use Camera.getCamera() (only have one attached to my laptop) I'm always getting
    different values for camera.height and camera.width. Also some 720p cams have different aspect ratio then the old cameras.
    Is there possible to detect somehow what's the largets resolution is supported by a webcam? Or all possible resolutions supported?
    GLTA.

    hi
    I´m trying to know if the webcam is 4/3 or 16/9. You know that your solution could work?
    cam.setMode(64000,48000,fps);
    switch (ScaleCam(cam)) {
                    case 1.33: // 4/3
                        mx.controls.Alert.show("4/3"+"\n"+cam.width+"\n"+cam.height);
                        break;
                    case 1.77: // 16/9
                        mx.controls.Alert.show("16/9"+"\n"+cam.width+"\n"+cam.height);
                        break;
                    case 3: //
                        break;
    protected function ScaleCam(cam:Camera):Number {
        var scale:Number = new Number();
        scale = cam.width/cam.height;
        scale = Number(scale.toFixed(2));
        return scale;
    I haven´t got webcam HD 16/9, so can´t try this solution.
    Thanks!

  • LELA "Router Not Detected"

    I just purchased a Linksys WRT54G V8.2 router.  I just opened the box and have been attempting to get the wireless network setup.
    I am currently posting as I am connected via eathernet cable though the WRT54G router
    My problem is when I attempt to set this up using the LELA, I keep getting the "Router Not Detected" error.  Everything is plugged in, all lighs are on.  As I said, I am currently connected to the internet using this router, but with a wired ethernet cable, I cannot get the wireless setup.
    LELA will not let me do anything until it can detect the router, can anyone help me figure out what is wrong here?
    Thanks.

    I'm having the same issue.
    My router works fine and I can log into it from a web page but each time I try to install Lela, it will not detect the router (even though all of the required lights are on/blinking, etc).
    I have uninstalled Lela, rebooted, and cleared out the Registry.
     I have tried multiple router resets and have also updated the firmware.
