ANYTHING using click wheel is VERY sluggish ??

Hi .. i just upgraded my 80 gig 5th gen ipod to the 160 ipod classic. After syncing, I went to use it for the first time, and the first thing I noticed is that when I navigated through the main menu, it was VERY sluggish and non-responsive. When I went to music/artists, it was not even usable b/c it went so slowly. ?

I have noticed, even with 1.1.1 that when first going into music and album menus it will take a second or two to load the album covers. but then will navigate pretty good. Not usre if this is what you are seeing. Sorry I can't be of more help.

  • IPod will not turn off using click wheel

My 30G iPod won't turn off unless I put it in the universal dock and use the remote. It will not turn off using the click wheel. I've tried resetting the iPod, and also changed the "Settings" back to the factory default, and that didn't make any difference. Is anyone else having this problem?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
    Does the iPod sucessfully reset?
    Try resetting the iPod...
    Resetting iPod
After it resets, wait about a minute. Now try turning it off.
Also, try activating the sleep timer on the iPod. Does that turn it off? (Go to extras-->clock-->[select a clock]-->sleep)

  • 80 gb click wheel is kafluie

my brand new 80 gb ipod click wheel is very different from my 60 gb ipod video. forward button does not change song to next song. it does nothing. to forward to next son I must hit select button. when i am in shuffle songs playing a song and want to quit I can't quit...I hit menu and go back to choices and lets say I pick audio books and hit select..all that happens is the song forwards but I can't get into any other menus. What up with this?

Try to perform a restore. Go to this web address, http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=60983
it will help you with restoring the iPod. If the buttons still don't work properly, you will need to send it in for repair. To do that just call technical support.

  • Why is my mac book pro very sluggish in opening windows/color wheel

why does my Mac Book Pro acting slow when ever I'm working in multiple windows, going back and forth,
it take for ever to open up load the pages, and there is a rainbow color wheel spinning, not sure what is going on with it.
please help, and my 3 year warrant has just expired. please help.

Check to see how much free space there is on the startup disk.
Click the Apple menu icon top left corner in your Desktop. From the drop down menu click About This Mac > More Info then select the Storage tab.
Make sure there's at least 15% available storage space.

If storage space is not the issue, the startup disk may need repairing. Use Lion Recovery

  • Is there a trick to using the center of the click wheel on my ipod nano 5th generation?

I just bought a used (only 5 hrs playtime) from someone and I cannot get the center of the click wheel to pick up my touch very well...it takes forever to scroll thru and its frustrating! Is it normal for it to be that difficult to use or do I just need to get used to it?

It is not normal, there is something wrong with the click wheel.

  • Photoshop CS6 very sluggish after assigned RAM is used up

    Hello community,
during the evaluation of my PS CS6 trial I encountered the following problem. Painting on a layer mask is very, very sluggish once Photoshop CS6 has used up all RAM that has been assigned to it.
When I am in 100% view and <shift><click> about 10 times in quick succession it takes almost a minute for photoshop to catch up, often the last clicks get lost and the next click draws a line without using <shift>.
    I tried without appreciable improvement:
    - Different brushes (hard, soft, down to 10px)
    - Disable graphics processor
    - Disable layer icons
The problem seems to be related to virtual memory handling. Does PS CS6 use virtual memory buffering? The Activity Monitor shows still free memory.
In comparison and on the same system, Photoshop CS4 with default VM Buffering remains quite responsive although the RAM usage of PS CS4 (active + inactive) is much lower than in CS6.
What can I do to fix the problem? This issue prevents me from upgrading to CS6.
    Thanks
    Thomas

I did a lot of additional testing and made the following observation:
It happens only when painting on the layer mask, not on the layer itself. After some brush strokes in the swapping state (see above) the program reproducibly behaves like this when trying to make another stroke:
I make a stroke with the mouse
Some seconds later the initial point appears, there is some disk write activity
Then Photoshop's CPU utilization rises to 100% with zero disk activity - it stays there until ...
I click somewhere in the image and immediately a linear stroke from the initial point to the click position is drawn. This final click even works when Photoshop does not currently have the application focus - application switching to Photoshop via the dock icon does not visibly work anyway in this state.
I can repeat that sequence. If I wait long enough it somehow gets cured, but then it only takes another ~10 strokes to get the strange behaviour back.

  • Why can't I use my ITunes account balance to pay for a  click wheel app?

I have a IPod Nano 4G and would like to download one of the click wheel apps and purchase it through my ITunes account but it seems to only allow payment with credit card. Why is this?

    Hello Coastie53,
    And welcome to Apple Discussions!
That's just the way it is if you are trying to make the purchase from within the Canadian iTunes store. You are not allowed to use a gift card to purchase apps. As to why, that's just the rules for now. Sorry.

  • IPod Click Wheel Not Responding to Anything

I have the iPod click wheel 40 GB and it is not responding to anything. When I hit any of the buttons, an apple appears on the screen and then changes to a picture of an iPod with a sad face and an exclamation mark. This website also appears at the bottom. I have tried all of the five Rs and the iPod is not responding to anything. The battery will not even run out. What can I do?

try dropping it or hitting it. worked for me. i was about to buy a new one and i read a forum here that had many people posting that they just gave it a good whack and worked fine again.

  • Using the click wheel quickly pulls up a letter...but the WRONG LETTER

OK, this is funny and somewhat topical. I am afraid it is a predecessor to future problems though.
When using the click wheel rapidly in song selection we all know that letter pop up to help you scroll quicker. Well, the series of letters for me goes something like this:
    A B T B C D E T E F G H T H I J K L T L...you get the idea. Yes, it repeats the letter "T" over and over.
Does anyone have any ideas about this? I have reset the iPod, but am leary about restoring it because I have 45 episodes of The Office and 6700 songs to mess with.
      Windows XP Pro

I am going to post, no so much an answer, but an observation. Here is what I noticed. The letter 'T' pulls up whenever there is the word "the" in the title. So, I am thinking that with the new iTunes, it updates the iPod not to recognize the word "the" when alphabetizing, but it recognizes the letter 'T' when scrolling.
Example: Bananarama - Venus would come first, then the next song is The Band - Acadian Driftwood. So, Band comes after Bananarama if you omit the word "the", but the letters recognize the 'T' in the. Make Sense?
Anyone have any thoughts on this? Does anyone know where I can tell Apple about it?
Apple needs a section that we can click on called "stupid things we seem to overlook" and then fill out opinions on dumb screwed up options like this.

  • Can an older IPod (click wheel) be used with a wireless/bluetooth speaker? If so, how?

Can an older IPod (click wheel) be used with a wireless/bluetooth speaker? If so, how?

There is no doubt you can.
When you say photos stored on it.. in what form are these photos?? Is this your iphoto library?
If so using iphoto library on the TC has risks.. not necessarily viewing photos .. that should be fine. But if you have photos you are editing and wireless comms drop out leaving the library with a file open, it is likely to corrupt your library. Please check with the iphoto people on the discussion board if you want to go ahead for the dangers of using iphoto on any network drive.
The TC is not designed as a NAS .. in particular it cannot back itself up, nor can Time Machine backup the TC. So any files on the TC are at risk. If you manage to corrupt the iphoto library without a current backup... does that worry you??

  • Can't use the forward or back buttons on click wheel

My mini was working fine until a couple of weeks ago, now I can't use the forward or back button - if I hit it, it just goes to the previous menu. The Menu and Select buttons work fine, as does the scroll function of the click wheel. Anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this?

  • Click Wheel Very Sensitive

The click wheel on my new iPod Nano 3rd Gen seems very sensitive. When I think it's set on a menu selection I lift my thumb (carefully) and it moves up or down. Is there a way to adjust the click wheel so it has a heavier action?

You know I have this problem too... I do have a silicone skin over it which I thought was most of the problem.. But I went looking in settings and thought let's turn on the clicker (Settings/Clicker). I think it actually helps - it might be that the act of clicking slows it down ever so slightly.
It's weird I picked it up and it seemed to do it... then I turned the Clicker on speaker played with it and then turned it off and I swear it works better. If you don't mind the clicker maybe leaving it on makes sense

  • Click Wheel Goes Berserk When Used With iHome.........HELP!

  • Click wheel ipod and vista question

Hello, I have a 4G click wheel 40 gig ipod (updater version 3.1.1) and I have been using my mothers computer which has windows xp and i haven't upgraded itunes to the version 8. I was given a new computer (32 bit) which is running windows vista basic. My question is am I going to have problems with using vista basic and my older ipod? I have heard that it was turning older ipods into bricks and have been scared to transfer everything over to the new computer.
Also, I am using it with an Alpine KCA-420i (got it the same time as the ipod) in the truck, and it worked great for a while and for the past two years it freezes up, skips songs or just won't work and was wandering if it was due to upgrading itunes? The last time the ipod was updated was for the version it is running now.
I am trying to be careful with my ipod since it got frozen during an ice storm (no electricity for nine days) and left in the truck in bellow freezing temps for a couple of hours. The hard drive didn't appreciate it and is now not really working all that great. clicking, whirling ,grinding noises ya give it a couple good whacks on the back or sides it starts to work again. I read some post on reformatting the disk, last time i tried it the ipod froze but now i am going to try again. I did the diagnostic mode solution and it keeps getting frozen in the HDD scan.
Sorry this is long, but if anybody has any suggestions or answers that would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
    Cinamon

I don't have a guide or anything, but it is almost as easy as replacing it with another hard drive, and there are online guides for doing that, for example
    http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Device/iPod4th_Generation_orPhoto
Be sure to use those plastic tools. If you use metal ones, you will damage the iPod's case.
And it's a Compact Flash card that I used, not an SD card (which is smaller). Compact Flash cards 16GB and below are getting affordable (if you shop around online), although 32GB and higher ones are still expensive. 4GB cards are very cheap, so you may want to try it with one of those, to confirm it works, since it is always possible there are other problems with your iPod.
    1. Get one of these adapters, or equivalent. It's $5 with shipping included.
    [CF Compact-Flash SSD To Toshiba IPod 1.8 inch Adapter|http://cgi.ebay.com/CF-Compact-Flash-SSD-To-Toshiba-IPod-1-8-inch-Adapt erW0QQitemZ180303249125QQcmdZViewItemQQptZPCA_Cables_Adapters?hash=item29fae93ee5& _trksid=p3911.c0.m14&trkparms=72%3A1240%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318%7C301%3A1%7C293%3A2% 7C294%3A50]
The listing above on eBay is the same item from the same seller as the one I bought.
    2. It fits in the iPod case with only one minor mod. There is a pair of jumper pins, used for the master/slave setting; you can see it on the image in the listing (on the left side). You want it with the jumper ON, for the master setting. It sticks out too much, so I just bent the pins 90 degrees with needle nose pliers, and the jumper still fits. If your 4G iPod is the 40GB model, it has the thicker drive and case, so it may fit fine without bending it over.
    3. Connect the Compact Flash card to the adapter and connect the adapter where the 1.8-inch hard drive was connected. You need to put something non-conducting between the logic board and the adapter/CF card. A stiff piece of paper (like a business card) would work; I cut a piece of clear plastic from the +impossible to open without hurting yourself+ packaging material that most tech products come packed in these days. Cut it to the right rectangle shape to fit between the logic board and adapter/CF card without sliding around.
    4. The adapter plus CF Card is much smaller than the hard drive, so you need to fill that space to avoid it rattling around. Cardboard pieces would work, but if you want to take advantage of the lighter weight, get something light. I used some of that flexible foamy packing sheets that are used to wrap around delicate items for shipping. I cut appropriate size pieces to take up the extra space. I put one layer between the adapter/CF card and the logic board and the rest between the adapter/CF card and the metal half of the case.
Then, you just connect the iPod and run a Restore, as if it was a regular 4G iPod. The three key advantages are better shock resistance, lighter weight, and no drive spin-up delay. The only real disadvantage is lower capacity, unless you get a more expensive CF card with higher capacity.
Note to other readers: I also tried this retrofit with an older 3rd gen iPod. It did not work for me and the parts I used; I could not get the iPod to format or restore with the Compact Flash card inside.
