Anyway to create custom page size for designjet 500? wasting way too much paper!

just got a hp designjet 500 from jobsite. hooked up to mac. everything prints fine................
EXCEPT
ok i did a simple test 'strip' in adobe illustrator setting the width of the document to 36" which is the size of the paper roll i'm using. i had placed a couple of strips of the same objects with different color fills close to the bottom of the 'artboard'. when going to select print i realized that the printer only recognizes standard page sizes and does not allow me to change to a custom size to say like 36"w by 4" h. so the print came out in the center of a 48" long size piece of paper which obviously wastes soooo much paper.
so i can't create a custom size print page is there a way to have it print close to the bottom margin, turn off the cutting feature, print it, cut manually then move the paper back via the machine or would i have to do it manually and realign the paper and setup after every print?
thanks in advance!

  • Can no longer create custom page size for printing to PDF?

When printing from FrameMaker to PDF in Windows, I used to be able to create a custom page size by clicking on the Add button that appeared to the right of the Adobe PDF Page Size window, in the Adobe PDF Document Properties dialog box. With Frame 9, that button no longer appears; in fact, the whole dialog box is cut off just inside the edge of the entry windows. Do I need to set something? Thanks for any help you can offer. - Cindy Shaler

    Cindy,
I am not sure to what dialog boxes you are referring.
In the PDF Setup dialog box (in FrameMaker's Print dialog or Save as PDF dialog), the Settings tab displays two fields to change the width and height of the paper. I tried entering odd values, and the resulting PDF had the entered size. I see no Add button nor is the dialog box cut off.
Maybe I am not looking at the correct boxes.

  • Set custom page size for printing

I want to set a custom page size for printing some PDF three and four-page musical scores to roll paper on an Epson 1290 using Adobe Reader 9.3.4 on Ubuntu 10.04. The printer properties in the print dialog has a media size option, and one of the choices is "custom", but having chosen "custom", the dialog does not allow me to add the actual page size to the lpr printer command. I can see that when I choose "custom", the lpr command is
    lpr -P Stylus-Photo-1290 -o PageSize=Custom etc
but what I need for a three page output, for example, is
    lpr -P Stylus-Photo-1290 -o PageSize=Custom.297x630mm etc
and I can't see how to add the actual custom paper size. If I Ok the media size choice dialog with it just set to PageSize=Custom, I can see from the output preview in the print dialog that the actual page size that has been chosen is letter. The online Adobe doc for Reader 9 printing (http://help.adobe.com/en_US/Reader/9.0/content.html#heading2.3) says "For documents that are larger than the standard page size, go to File  > Page Setup.  Create a custom page size before you print your  document". The problem with that is that there is no "Page Setup" option on the File menu in the Unix version of Adobe Reader, only a "Print" option, which is where I already am.
If I open the PDFs in Evince, it allows me to add the custom page sizes I want, but as Evince doesn't have the option to print multiple pages per sheet I can't use it either...

Yes, it used to work, and the resize zoom bar used to work too (now its grayed out). I don't know if this is a "who's to blame for it" thing, but its not getting fixed and its pretty bad that no one seems to care enough even to respond. I found my own solution by opening it in Gimp. Just right click and select open with other ...Gimp and it will import into it. In the Gimp Print dialog, you have a scaling percentage in the "Page Setup" tab, and size settings in the "Image settings" plus loads of other stuff including multiple copies.

    HI
To define a new page format, choose
    Administration -> CCMS -> Print->® Spool Administration.
Choose Full Administration and then Page Formats on the Device Types tab page. On the next screen choose Change and  Create or  Create with Reference. Fill out the fields on the next screen.
    Activating a New Page Format
Before using a new page format, you must specify it as a page format in a SAPscript form. Be careful when replacing a page format in a standard SAPscript form as the form may not necessarily fit on the new page format.
You also have to define a format and device type format for the new page format before you can use it.

  • Creating Custom Page Size less than one inch

I currently have Acrobat 6 on Windows XP, and it appears that I cannot set a custom page size less than one inch (Using Printer Preferences). Is there another method I can use to create a PDF from Publisher that has a page size less than one inch? If not, would updating to Acrobat 9 allow me to print to a custom page size of less than one inch?

    Thanks Peggy,
I tried deleting the preference file and restarting Pages but I still have the same problem with the custom page size. When I start Pages I am presented with a bunch of templates so I choose Blank then I go through my procedure to select the custom page size that I created and always end up back at an A4 document.
I have used the demo version of Stone Create to do what I needed to do with the small page size (ie. create a small ad) but it is a pain that I paid for Pages and now will need to buy something like Stone Create to do what I need. Although, that said, having used Stone Create for this little ad I must say that for the price it seems like a pretty decent program that will do a whole lot of the desktop publishing type of functions without the rather steep prices of the Adobe products. I kind of wish I had bought this program instead of Pages now.

  • Creating custom page size PDFs in Distiller 7

I've created a music document (in Finale) with pages that are 9x12. I have been trying to make high-resolution PDFs in Distiller (Acrobat Professional 7) for the printing company. The Distiller's page size is set to 9x12 and so is the Page Setup. But my PDFs come out cut off at the top and right hand side (as if the page had been pushed up into to the upper right corner)
    What am I doing wrong?
I'm working on an Intel iMac running OSX 10.4.10

The PDF output size will be typically derived from your authoring
application - the page size is used for EPS files without a specific
    bounding box ..

  • Custom page sizes for Photosmart 6515

Just unpacked a Photosmart 6515. Running on old xp desktop computer.
My main item I print is 5.5"x8" but the custom option is grayed out. went to properties through the main printers/faxes set up and no option there either to set up custom sizes.
Is there seriously no option to print custom sizes? im not asking for boarderless. and all other hps I have had have always let me easliy set up this size.
Down to the wire for Christmas, don't want to have to return it and start over.
    Please Help
    -Frustrated

I was able to fool the printer by changing my paper size for the document to an A4 (actual size is 5.8" x 8.3").  Did some test printing on a scrap cut to 5.5 x 8.5 to see how it printed.  Tweeked the layout a little and got it to do what I wanted.  Would probably work for your 5.5 x 8 as long as you are not printing edge to edge.
Hope this helps.  I've NEVER had a printer that did not allow a custom size.  NOT HAPPY about the lack of feature.  If anyone can tell me how to put in a custom size for this printer model, PLEASE POST IT!
    Merry Christmas!

  • Creating Custom page sizes

I only just bought and installed v9 std, having been using
v7, or 3D previously. After installing I found there are only a
limited number of paper sizes available so gone into printer
preferences to add new ones. Clicking on Add/Modify button brings
up the dialogue box for a new page name and sizes which I enter.
After I click the add button, I get the message "Not allowed to
modify system or printer defined paper size (a2). only user defined
paper size can be modified or deleted."
Any suggestions as to what I am doing wrong?

  • Creating custom frame size for ProRes?

This would be an addendum to my previous question about frame sizes.
Say I have a bunch of odd-sized png files ... and want to convert them to a ProRes HQ clip ... but they have this odd size (which we need to keep). 1428 x 1050. Can I make an odd frame size ProRes HQ 8 bit clip? And if so, any tips on how to do it right?

  • How does an account holder return their old phone when they edged up through the Verizon Edge Program? I have wasted way too much of my time trying to do this and am certainly disgusted with Verizon's communication and website for this.

I have been searching this helpless website for 3 nights after work trying to figure out how to get my old phone back to "WHEREVER" it needs to go. I am soo frustrated, I'm ready to throw this phone away and forget it. I've read through posts and tried the links left to only be taken where I've already been, with NO LUCK AT ALL. I've even called verizon myself to get, yet again, NO HELP!! Can anyone give me the real answer as to what to do.???
I've got the box I received my new phone in, with the plastic bag for the old phone and some papers the clearly read, "Keep this for your records" nothing that says RETURN LABEL. Don't have an address, either!

This is the same response other community users have gotten, there is not option to print a label. This is also where li was told to go look for the receipt when I card
Verizon. THERE IS NOTHING THERE TO PRINT. I've tried to include a link to that page, so you can view yourself,  but I'm thinking it won't post in this community discussion.
So, with this, I'm still stuck in the same situation... HOW DO I RETURN THIS PHONE? WHY CANT VERIZON EMAIL ME A LABEL DIRECTLY???

  • Custom page size - Serious Frustration

Acrobat is used to setup alot of our work for output. When creating custom page sizes for different jobs, there is no order in the pull down menu for the custom page sizes.
How can I set Acrobat Pro or MacOS X to display the custom page sizes in a numerical order ??
I have tried under both MacOS 10.3.9 and 10.4.2 using both Acrobat Pro 6 and 7. The result is the same. The list of page sizes might be something like this when selecting the pull down menu:
    200x410
    186x250
    350x475
    215x275
    ....etc.
Currently I have ~100 different custom page sizes for different impositions, the only way to work it is a. to search for the right size or b. try to remember where in the list the required custom size is.
There is logical no order to the custom page size listing. Not even deleting existing sizes and recreating in the required order works. Interestingly, when creating a new size the existing sizes appear in numerical order but not when selecting from the pull down menu.
    Please help.
    Matt.
    G5 2.0 x2, 2.5GB Ram, 2x160GB   Mac OS X (10.3.9)   Acrobat 6 Pro (6.0.4)

I've discovered that this is a SYSTEM issue, NOT an Adobe issue. The custom page setups are also out of any order in "Mail", "TextEdit", "InDesign" etc. etc. The other apps that I use typically have their own paper size interfaces not requiring to use the default apple one. (Eg. Quark / InDesign).
To prove this point I deleted the custom paper settings in Acrobat so that just the default sizes existed and then went into TextEdit and recreated some custom paper sizes using the Page Setup interface. Again, created custom paper sizes DO NOT list in either numerical or chronological order.
The apple system file which controls this is called "com.apple.print.custompapers.plist"
I found this entry on the macosxhints forum:
    http://forums.macosxhints.com/showthread.php?t=23681
2 other users noting frustration with the same problem, but it doesn't offer any solution
Is anyone familiar with hacking ".plist" files? Maybe there is way to edit the file to adjust it to a logical order.

  • Cannot create PDF w/ custom page size in FM 9

I just upgraded to the new Technical Communication Suite and cannot create a PDF from FrameMaker with a custom page size anymore. I need to create a PDF with a page size of 8.125" by 10.875", and have tried both Save As PDF and Print to the PDF driver. I followed all of the instructions on how to do so via the PDF printer driver's "Printing Preferences", Adobe PDF page size, etc. When that didn't work, I also tried Save As PDF with a custom page size ... still won't print to the custom size no matter how many places I specify it.
My only way to get my custom page size at this point is to create the PDF and then go in and modify Document > Crop Pages > Change Page Size to Custom, and specify my size. This is clearly less than desirable.
I am using FM version 9.0p 196. Any help/advice/suggestions welcome!

    Cindy,
You should get the FM updates. There have been 3 patches released since the 9.0p196 version. Install them in order.
Before creating PDFs, make certain that your default printer is set to the AdobePDF printer instance. The SetPrint utility from Sundorne helps ensure that this is always the case for FM, see http://www.sundorne.com/FrameMaker/Freeware/setPrint.htm
In the Save As PDF dialogue, set the "Page Size" for the output on the Settings tab, as shown here:
Set your PDF joboptions for the appropriate press requirements.
    Set your registration if required.
Make sure the "Convert CMYK Colors to RGB" is set (the PDF CMYK generation is still buggy).
Hit the "Set" button and you should get the correctly sized output.
When you were creating the ouptut via the printer route, if you had set the "Generate Acrobat Data" option, then FM sets the document so that it is always cropped to the FM page size, rather than the printer specified output sheet size, in the final PDF. Omit setting this option and it should work via this route as well.

  • Creating a custom page size not working

    Hi,
I have Pages 3.0.2 and I wanted to create an PDF for an ad that our playgroup wants to submit in a local paper. The ad needs to be 10cm x 6.2cm so I went to the Inspector dialog and the Document tab and then selected Page Setup. In the new dialog I selected Manage Custom Sizes under the Paper Size drop down and then created a new size by clicking on the + icon. This allowed me to specify a Page size of 10cm width and 6.2cm height. I selected user defined printer margins and entered 0.25 for all margins. I set a name for the page size as 100by62Ad.
All good so far, but now when I select this new custom size in the Page Size drop down I can see the page size and underneath the drop down it says 10 by 6.2cm and click on OK the Document Inspector flashes then shows the A4 sizes again.
Nothing I do seems to allow me to select the new custom size. I can select the other page sizes such as DL fine and see the new page size in the window, but my new custom size refuses to display. I have tried closing down Pages and coming back in but get the same thing. I then tried downloading another program, in this case one called "Stone Create", and selected the custom page size in that program and it worked fine. I got a small 10cm x 6.2cm document to work with.
This seems to be a bit of a bug. Has anyone else managed to work with custom page sizes?
    Thanks for any assistance.
    Graham
