There are very few apps, such as Pandora, that actually run in the background. The rest are suspended, have a negligible RAM footprint, and use no battery whatsoever. Just stop the ones that actually run in the background don't waste your time on the others.

Free up RAM on Fascinate?

Is there anyway that I can free up RAM on the fascinate? For some reason I am using 269mb out of 325mb anyone know why so much RAM is being used? I am new to all of this so any reply is greatly appreciated!

You are right-no real need to purchase an app killer app (citation: www.droid-den.com/android-guides/android-guide-should-i-use-a-task-killer ). Just get in the habit of using the back arrow to "close" an app. Also, it can be good to put the Task Manager widget on your home page...it will show you how many apps are running and flash red if things are getting to be a drain on your battery. When you click the widget it opens the Task Manager where you can conveniently use the End All button. If I had programmed the Task Manager I would have had it return to the home page after that to save the trouble of pressing the home button again.
You might, however want to check out the application called AppControl in the Android Market. I like it because it not only provides an easy way to close some apps that run in the background and are unnecessary and do use a bit of battery power and RAM, AND easily creates a backup file OF YOUR APPS which you can email to your self and save up at gmail so that if you should ever loose your phone or break it, you will be able to easily re-install your apps.

Telinit 6 does not complete kill tasks

I have a Oracle database running Solaris 8 on a Ultra 5 box. There is a kill task I created on rc0.d which will shutdown the database gracefully when rebooting the server with 'telinit 6'. But the task was terminated half way through based on my Oracle log. And how far it could go was not consistent. I have to add a 'sleep 60' command at the end of the task to ensure its completion. The inittab file does have wait on the rc0 entry.
Could anyone help me to resolve this issue without the sleep command? Thanks.

Why is my Macbook Pro using up 3.9GB of 4.0GB RAM when no programs or applications are open? What can be done to free up RAM?

Once the computer has started up, almost all (3.9 of 4.0 GB) the RAM is used by system resources even though no programs or applications are running. How can I free up RAM on my system? Or is that the base utilization for the operating system?

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar.
Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then try the action that you're having trouble with again. Select any messages that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.

Best way to free up RAM on my Fascinate?

Even though I am not running a ton of apps and keep history and cache clear, am still using almost 238 MB of the 325 MB of available RAM. Suggestions? Do text messages suck up space?

The terminology nowadays is so screwed up, its difficult to communicate. People are using RAM to mean different things. When used as originally as in PC's, it is the volatile memory which is emptied when the device is turned off. All that data is cleared. Then android reloads it as full as possible when you restart the phone. (It runs better near full). This is the memory that your post is referring to and you are right; that is the real RAM.
But, I think the OP is referring to the RAM, phone storage, internal memory, flash memory, whatever it is called, that does not change when you turn off your phone. It does change when you add an app, or create some data like a text message or change your cache by using an app, etc. But when you reboot, that data is still there. That data is erased when you delete or clear or uninstall something or factory/hard reset the phone. All these things increase its size. If it is too small, performance does decrease. So first I think the 325 available refers to the amount left after deducting for the OS itself (which may be 200 MB or so) (Of course the space taken by the OS never changes unless it is updated). Then from that 325, installing apps, creating texts or any other data reduces the 325 until the OP has 238 available now. I believe this is how it works.

OSD Task Sequence fails with "There are no task sequences available for this computer"

Let me preface this by saying that I have read at least 100 forum posts with people having similar issues. However, none of the solutions in those
posts have worked for me.
The Problem: SCCM 2012 R2 will not image unknown computers.
The task sequence gives the error "There are no task sequences available for this computer." As soon as that error occurs, SCCM places an Unknown entry into the All Systems collection. I have been imaging unknown computers, without fail, for
4 months and no environmental changes have been made. NOTE: I am using USB media, not PXE.
What I've Tried:
Checked for duplicate SMSBIOS GUIDS in the console, none.
Checked for duplicate MAC Addresses in the console, none.
Checked for expired certificates, none.
Recreated Boot Media, twice.
Deleted the Unknown entry and retried, SCCM just recreates the Unknown entry.
Deleted all of my task sequence deployments, and then redeployed them each to All Systems (Only Boot Media and PXE) and to Unknown Systems (Only Boot Media and PXE)
I have also ran the following in the SQL Server Management Studio;

This displays an entry for every time that I have tried to image the unknown machine attached to the MAC Address with a different ItemKey and SMS_Unique_Identifier for each entry.

That really ***, I have been playing with mine and can't believe I can't use 3/4 of the sites I like on it.

It's more likely a failed Erase Free Space, which creates a huge temporary file; that's why it looks like you have no more available drive space. You can recover from this. See these links

She is making in app purchases. Probably not knowing what that means to your monthly credit card bill. Use the Settings app to enable restrictions and turn on restrictions for iTunes, App Store and in app purchases, mabe some others too. The restrictions will be set with a passcode to prevent your daughter from changing them.

I have tried to find if something is using Firefox in the background, but have no way to know what that would be.
Their are no apparent viruses detected.
Firefox is version v5.0 and occurred in earlier release.

well, it's not the same hardware and it's a bit different.
I managed to pass that stage somehow but I still have a problem
I don't use the built-in creator tool that comes with Spyrus as it doesn't know how to append a pre-staged media that was created by SCCM that should apply the Windows file system to a second partition and the WinPE to the first partition.
I managed to do everything. my only problem is that the WTGCreator that comes with SCCM 2012 R2 creates the 350MB partition with FAT32 file system.
when I boot from the device I get the WinPE, I can choose a task sequence and then it fails when trying to apply the wim file. the error tells me that the 350MB partition is FAT32 which is not supported (even though it chooses the second partition, which
is all the rest of the disk space)
what I did was adding another task that converts the 32 Fat partition to an NTFS partition and then the process continues and finishes successfully! but that's a workaround.
I'm trying to make this process as smooth as possible without having additional steps

Looks like it got stuck.
You can switch to another program or the Finder (click on desktop) and Apple menu > Force Quit > Adobe
You can press and hold the power button, it's a emergency force shutdown which you can boot normally and it should be fine.

You can create an Apple ID without a credit card by following this guide exactly: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2534. Note that you have to start by downloading a free app, then create the ID.
