Anyway to get a true 16:9 still export from fcp ?

I'm aware of the nesting into a 4:3 sequence to get a letter box result.
However this is not pleasing the promotions team who want a 16:9 un letterbox version for print.
Many thanks
_matt

FCP will always export the frame at the resolution of the current sequence.
If you'd like a 16:9 version of your still, create a new sequence named 'wide for stills' in your project, control-(or right-) click it in the browser, choose 'Settings...' and set your sequence to 1024 by 576.
Drag your edited sequence into the 'wide for stills' sequence. You may find that your will be squashed in the middle of the canvas. If so, control-(or right-) click it, choose 'Open in Viewer', go to the motion tab, open the 'Distort' section and set the Aspect Ratio to -42.22.
If you export a still from this new sequence, it will be in the resolution and aspect ratio you require.
Oddly enough the true resolution for 16:9 PAL is 1050w by 576h. These two values aren't in a ratio of 16:9, but here is a link to a page all about it:

  • How to take a still Jpeg from FCP sequence?

Hi, a client wants a still Jpeg from my timeline to use in the local newspaper. How do I get a good still image out of the Final Cut Pro timeline?
    Thanks
    Kevin

Unfortunately, you're limited to the resolution of the source video.  Load the source clip in the viewer, (you can match frame back) park it at the appropriate frame, and go to file:  export:  quicktime conversion and choose still image.   You will be limited by the pixel dimensions of the source with a dpi of 72.

  • High Quality Still Exports from Mini DV Source

I am trying to export the highest quality stills possible from MiniDV tape. I am using the control+click technique to get stills that show up in the finder but the quality is not very high. Any suggestions?
    Thanks!

    Welcome to iMovie Discussions.
Because miniDV is meant for videos ..pictures which move and change before your eyes have time to hunt for fine detail.. there isn't a great deal of detail in still miniDV frames.
In American (NTSC) video, the quality's roughly equivalent to a still photo 640x480 pixels ..i.e; about one third of a megapixel. (European PAL video has a slightly higher resolution, more like 720x480, but still pretty low.)
So you'll never get high quality stills from miniDV video; sorry ..the detail just isn't there to start with!

  • Getting red noise on all my exports from media encoder.

I have had CS4 for a while now on PC. It has worked great until recently. Everything I export out of premier via media encoder gets this quick random red stamp looking noise that flashes periodically through my video. I have been exporting AVI, and I can't remember if it has happened while exporting any other format. I have included a frame from my video of what it looks like. Any suggestions?

    Brad,
To restate what you have said - and to make sure I'm on the right page with you:
You have two types of Assets: MOV raw, Captured in FCP and Lagarith AVI Exported from AE. Both play fine outside of PrPro (.MOV's slightly pixelated in QT Player) and both Import and play fine within PrPro. The problems come, when you Export from PrPro. Is this correct?
As a test, have you tried other Export schemes from PrPro, such as DV-AVI? This is only as a test, as it will obviously not be what you ultimately need.
    Just curious. Good luck,
    Hunt
[Edit] going back to the OP, I see that it has been an Export as .AVI (which AVI CODEC?), that seems to have caused this. Can you try maybe an MPEG-2 Export?

  • Still images from FCP Studio 2

Ok, I have done it again. I edited a documetnary yet, forgot to have a photographer on the set.
I have captured some great images using my HVX200 but of course when exporting a still from FCP, the resolutin is only 72dpi and I need 300.
Could I import teh stills from FCP into Photoshop and just change the dpi? Would this be suitable for printing the images?
When doing that, it seems just to make them a larger photo.
    THANKS!
    Lawrence

Yes, you can change the DPI to 300. No, this won't make the images any sharper.  They started out 1280x1080, 72dpi.  Merely increasing the DPI won't make them higher resolution.  It will still look like video.  If you hire a photoshop pro, a graphics designer, they might have a few plugins in their toolkit that can help, like Genuine Fracals that help with upscaling smaller images, plus know-how on how to deal with this. But it won't look like it originated from a 12 MP camera.
Suitable for printing? That's up to you. How does it look to you?

  • 16x9 sequence is getting squeezed to 4x3 when I export from Compressor

My usual Final Cut to Compressor workflow is producing an unusual result. I am starting with an anamorphic DV NTSC sequence in Final Cut, but when I export this from Compressor using the Uncompressed 10-bit codec in a Quicktime wrapper, the video is squeezed to 4x3.
Here is my process in depth.
These are the sequence settings shown in Final Cut.
720 pixels x 420 pixels. The pixels have an aspect ratio of 16:9 and so the sequence is displayed widescreen. (My one question about this section is what do the QuickTime Video Settings mean? This is not something that I have ever adjusted... can it affect how Compressor interprets the sequence?)
Then I export a reference Quicktime.
Then I bring this Quicktime reference movie into Compressor and apply the QuickTime Uncompressed 10-bit settings provided with Compressor. Now, I don't normally adjust the geometry at all with this workflow since I thought that this format automatically used the current frame geometry settings from the sequence. However, having no luck with this I attempted to fix the problem myself by adjusting the geometry to match my sequence settings in FCP.
Unfortunately, my attempted manual override of the compressor export failed. The quicktime that I got from this was squeezed to 4x3 just as before!
Using QuickTime Conversion directly from FCP I was able to get the appropriate 16x9 quicktime, but I really need to figure out how to do this in compressor since I have to process a lot of sequences and need to keep FCP available and Compress in batchs. So, any suggestions?

Your problem is one of the most common suffered by people new to editing or new to the anamorphic scene.
It starts with a misconception. DV anamorphic video is NOT 16x9. The camera that shoots anamorphic 16x9 is actually shooting squeezed 4x3 video. If you note the sequence settings in your first picture, you'll see that your actual frame size is 720x480 which is a 4x3 frame size (3x2 actually, but it's essentially the same thing). The anamorphic check box is merely to let FCP know that the footage was squeezed when shot so that it displays it properly to you.
Though FCP can most times recognize anamorphic footage upon capture, QT player does not. All it sees is the 720x480 frame, so that's why it looks squeezed.
To get it to look correctly in QT, you have to actually change the frame size in Compressor to a 16:9 frame size. For DV, that is 854x480. Go to your Geometry controls and choose Custom 16:9 from the drop down menu. Then type 854 in the horizontal box. Then save that as a preset for you.
When Compressor does it's thing, the finished movie will open up as a 854x480 clip in QT which will be the proper aspect ratio for your video.
On another note, I'm not sure why you're going from a DV/NTSC sequence to compressing in Uncompressed 10bit. Because the video was captured and edited in DV, it'll never be of higher quality than DV. You might as well keep it that way, unless there's something else about your workflow that I don't know/understand.
I hope this helps you understand how anamorphic works.

  • Trying to export from FCP 10.0.9 to YouTube, I get error message: no linked youtube account. It worked until yesterday, then stopped working. I tried changing passwords and accounts, but no help.

This is the story. Up until two days ago, when I completed a video project in Final Cut  Pro 10.0.9, I went to file->share->YouTube and a window opened up that showed the name of my YouTube account - (e.g., account.name) which is the same as the name of my gmail account. I then clicked 'next' and was asked for the password for that account. Upon supplying that and clicking next/publish, the uploading began.
Then suddenly, this procedure no longer worked. When I supplied the password, I got a message saying:
'NoLinkedYouTubeAccount'. Following online advice, I changed my account name from account.name to [email protected] and supplied the password. Still no good. I then changed the password in that account and tried both ways again. Still no good. I then opened up a new gmail account with a new password and tried that both ways. Still no good. I've tried following other online advice but nothing works. When I go to youTube, I see both accounts listed so they are there but the link doesn't get made. I've tried uploading several different videos, but it makes no difference. The videos I've uploaded previously to YouTube are there and functioning OK.
        Help would be much appreciated!

When I asked about codecs I was thinking of conflicts that FCP might have with one that would have been installed from a third party vendor…
It would seem to be something at the system level since all the user-specific fixes appear to have had no effect. And you've already tried a comprehensive list of the suggestions that I would have thought of…and probably more.
You didn't mention available disk space but I assume you checked that as well and you have at least 15% free on your start-up and media drives.
Has any version of FCPX performed for you as expected in the past?
When you uninstalled the app, by any chance did you use FCS Remover? If you didn't, give it a try.

  • How to improve quality of stills exported from FCE?

    Hello,
I am in the habit of exporting a still from video to use on the opening screen of iDVD and the DVD label. I've noticed that the quality of the stills I'm exportng from FCE is much worse that the quality I get from iMovie from the same piece of video. I am wondering if I have the playback settings in FCE at less than optimal and so the stills are not as good?
To export I use Quicktime Conversion and export as a jpeg at 29.97 fps.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    Hi Tom,
Thanks for the reply. This is what I am doing and selecting "highest quality". It seems the playback in FCE isn't as good as in iMovie and so the frame I am selecting isn't as good either. Do I possibly have some setting that is making the playback of lesser quality? The video is fine when I export it and burn it to disk.

  • Getting message while opening PDF file exported from InDesign

    Hi,
We have created an interactive PDF in InDesign. In this PDF we have created 15-20 pages which are link together and next previous button is provided.
We are using InDesign CS3 and PDF reader 9. PDF is exported for version 8 onwards. Exported PDF is working properly on our machine but our client is receving the following message on their machine if they try to open this PDF (they have PDF reader 8):
"Please Note: You cannot save a completed copy of this form on your computer. If you would like a copy for your records, Please fill it in and print it"
We have not used any kind of form in my PDF only internal page hyperlinks are given.
Attached screen shot is given for your reference.
Is there as way for remove this message so it doen not appear? I would really appriciate if anybody can help me out.
    Thanks a lot in advance.
    Regards,
    Deepika

    Deepika,
The alert dialog your screen shot depicts will only display if there is some kind of form annotation present in a PDF that is not "Reader Enabled".
Look closer at your 'final' PDF.
A PDF, not "Reader Enabled", that contains any form annotations will, when opened by Adobe Reader,
result in the alert dialog that you mention. A "hard wired" default.
Note that the forms document message bar can be "off" by a selection in Adobe Reader / Acrobat Preferences.
Select the 'Forms' category. Select "Always hide forms document message bar".
    Be well...

  • Do I get a faulty EDL when exporting from FCP?

I must create an EDL for a final DI to be made from film negative. When I export an EDL the Source Time Code In of each clip reads the same as the first frame in the clip, then the Source Time Code Out of each clip reads on frame higher than the last frame in that clip. E.g. if one clip ends on a frame with the timecode 02:00:15:01, the EDL out point reads 02:00:15:02.
Is this wrong? and if so does anybody know what the promblem could be?
the film is shot on 25 frames per second and the telecined to Pal dv tapes that run 25 frames per second, so that should not be a problem.

No, that's not a problem, it's just a difference in the way FCP reports timecode numbers and the way EDLs expect timecode to be.

  • Still Export issue

I just wanted to point out an annoying problem that I just discovered.
Sometimes I need to export stills from video for workbooks, etc. I only just realized that if I export (using QT conversion, still image) two stills from the same clip, and if I use the default name of the clip, the second one will overwrite the first still... without asking me to change the name or overwrite!
I exported a bunch of stills, then went to look at the exports and noticed that some were missing - because they were overwritten without my knowing! Any software that doesn't automatically append characters to a name, or doesn't prompt when overwriting a file is bound to cause problems.
Now that I think about it, there's no telling how many stills I've lost because of this.
I just needed to vent. Hopefully this has been fixed in more recent versions of FCP (I'm running 5.1.4).

You're exporting/creating a still image from FCP or you have a still image in FCP and trying to export a movie?
    What are your sequence settings?
What is the resolution of the original image?
Are you doing a Export with QuickTime Conversion? If so, with what settings?

my personal favorite is shift-N, apple-9, type name, drag to bin, batch export.
The best thing about the batch export queue is you can set up a batch with the file format and destination folder and then keep adding new clips/stills to export.
