Anyway to get combo headphone/mic port to work on Win7 (iMac 27" '13)

Hi,
I just ordered a split cable for the 3,5mm headphone/mic port to be able to use my headset. OS X recognizes the headset - it changes from the internal mic to the external, so no problem with that. But when using Windows 7 (Bootcamp, not virtual) it's not possible to select the external mic, there's only iMac's internal mic listed in "Recording devices".
No doubt this is a driver issue, but is there any solution for it? And yeah, I could buy USB headset or external audio interface, but let's forget those options for now. Sorry if asked (and it surely is) many times before, couldn't find anything with google.
Thanks!

Hi BDAqua,
I can go to /System/Library/Frameworks/, but JavaVM.framework/Versions/A/JavaVM does not exist!
Hi Linc,
I have already downloaded that updater, and it says 'A newer version of this package is already installed'

The aim of this thread is to verify and list compatible Splitter for W520 combo Headphone/ Microphone Port
The specs of the splitter are as follows: (Kindly verify if correct)

It was mentioned that they have  "Premium shield coax a/v cable for EMI/RFI interference...DC blocking protection ... microphone impedance matching"
They say it will "work with most 3.5mm mono or stereo microphones except for for unpowered ECM (electret condenser mics). If your microphone is an ECM without batteries then this special version of the adapter KM-IPHONE-2TRS-ECM is the adapter you would need."
So I guess the the type of microphone will have an effect also on what splitter to get.
    On this site..
    http://www.wfu.edu/~yipcw/lenovo/2011/T420s/review/
It says that on using the Part# KM-IPHONE-2TRS, with a "mono mic [Sony F-V410 cardioid imp 600 Ω vocal] in , it reverts to internal microphone for some reason.) and headphone"
So there can be incompatible mics for any splitter you use... OR is the defective splitter or the computer setting that is wrong...???

    Hi all
To be frank, some of the multimedia laptops, with SRS Premium Sound, etc. are having the same speakers as W510 / W520 and is very loud (AFAIK, Dell Inspiron N5110 have the same speakers as W520 and the placement is just below the palmrest like surround sound). Theoretically, it makes the sound less focus and soft, but it works well with that laptop.
The Mic and Speakers are powered by the amp / drivers. The hardware in fact is very good, the only problem with it is the driver / software not well written. Good Hardware + Bad Software = Bad Product.
If you want a better sound / mic, you could try my Dolby Home Theater v4 solutions, hopefully it could meet more than your expectations and solve your problems without any cost. In fact, Dolby GUI is more customizable than Conexant. Most of us would not think it's more complicated, as techies would prefers more options to have fun.
    1. I don't even need a external mic, an internal mic does the job with this fix.
    http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/W-Series-ThinkPad-Laptops/W520-bad-microphone-Usable/m-p/528497
    2. Dolby makes the sound much better and louder with correct settings. If not, my post are not able to stay active till now, reaching 100+ posts.

    Installation steps:
Simplifications of installing and optimizing Dolby Home Theater v4 threads. Message 77 and 78 + Attachment.
    3. Get a USB solution only if you need multichannel audio, stereo / wave mix or studio grade quality, if you are just using for entertainment, etc. W520 with Dolby Home Theater v4 should be more than sufficient.
    Cheers

  • How do I get the built in microphone to work on my IMac?  Camera works fine, but I can't record voice.

How do I get the built-in microphone to work on my IMac?  Camera works fine, but I can't record sound.

I always assummed that the mic was part of iSight (intertwined?).  The mic is situated right next to iSight.  It would seem to me the solutions would be the same some what.
Regarding the OP, I also suspect his/her problem is hardware.  It's rather unusual for the internal mic to not work yet the iSight does.

Anyone know how to get harman kardon soundsticks II to work on new iMac Mavericks??

Don't they show up in the Sound Preferences?  Are they plugged directly into your iMac?

  • Headphones/mic doesn't work on macbook, iPad as mic? plus internet through macbook?

I spent a lot of time trying to set up a wireless network unsuccessfully so now I only have internet through a LAN cable on my macbook.  The internal mic is broken on my mac (fixing would cost as much as a new mb).  I have a pair of apple headphones + microphone (not the in-ear buds the plain $40 ones)  I read elsewhere that only a mic with another power source will work with the macbook, I used to use a USB mic which worked so that backs that up.  Any way around that?  I'll end up buying another one I'm sure just wondering if there was a quicker fix?
Also, I have an iPad, no internet in my room since I couldn't set up the network, this is probably futile just wondering if anyone knew how I could use it's mic as an external mic for my laptop? Or if there was anyway to get it on internet through bluetooth or something, doubt it but just thought I'd ask!
    Thankyou!

    Amcon-
You would need an App to do that.  I don't think there is one, but you can search the iTunes store.
If there was such an App, it might use the Bluetooth interface to communicate with the Mac.

  • What headphone/mic set will work with BB

I hate the headphones that come the the bb, they are uncomfortable, don't fit the ear properly and the sound quality is crap, as for the microphone, people tell me it sounds of static and is distorted. Today the clip broke as well.
I have to use handsfree cell for driving by law, so I want something that is comfortable and good quality, also like listening to the music on my BB. My old Sony had an excellent earbud/mic system, but it has a different connector. I've tried a couple of generics, but they won't work as it seems that BB is proprietary with the 4-ring plug.
I'm sure someone else must have found a better headphone for the BB - where is it???
BTW, I don't want a Bluetooth due to the short battery life and I like to listen to music on my BB as well.

Several years ago I purchased a desktop Labtec microphone that plugs into the computer jack. It is not a Logitech product.
After all these years, it is still working helping me generating great narrations with various versions of Premiere Elements on Windows XP 32 bit and Windows 7 64 bit. I am not sure if the brand/model is still around and whether or is compatible with Mac.
When I first went looking for a desktop microphone, I could not find a USB type that worked. But, it took me a while to find the "right" desktop microphone even for the ones that plug into the computer jack.
I will post this Adobe link for narration in case you ever need it.
    http://help.adobe.com/en_US/premiereelements/using/WSED45334D-D309-445e-AF34-2AB3E3CCAA8D. html
But, I would mention something that you might want to consider if all else fails...if your preferred microphone works with it,, create your narrations with the free audio editor named Audacity and then import the .wav narrations into Premiere Elements with Premiere Elements Get Media/Files and Folders.

We will be watching for your progress.
    Thanks.

  • I can't get Silverlight 4 or 5 to work on my IMAC-Help Please

Hello.  over a year ago I deleted my Netflix account because I couldn't use my computer to watch netflix. This happened after I Updated my silverlight.  I kept getting a Player error 1001 message.  I called Netflix who were useless and pawned me off to Microsolf who tried to help initially by email and then gave up saying it was a mac problem so I then ended my service.  I recently rejoined thinking that after a year and an upgrade to LION, the problem would have been fixed in an update--but it hasnt and I'm still getting the same story from Netflix and the same error message.  I tried installing and uninstalling from different site- different versions (4 and 5) with no luck.  Does anyone know how to fix this?  Thanks inadvance.

Go back to the beginning ...
Uninstall Silverlight by following these steps: http://www.microsoft.com/getsilverlight/get-started/install/removing-silverlight -mac.aspx .  Also trash:
    /Library/Receipts/Silverlight.pkg
    /Library/Receipts/Silverlight_W2_MIX.pkg
    /Library/Receipts/WPFe.pkg
Reboot, and reinstall Silverlight 5 from: http://www.microsoft.com/silverlight/
Also, from a Microsoft troubleshooting note .... ensure your browser is not setup to run using Rosetta (of course Rosetta can't run under Lion, however...)
Double-click the hard drive icon on the desktop.
    Choose the Applications folder.
Find the icon for the browser that you are using. Hold down the CONTROL key while you click this icon.
    Select Get Info.
Locate the Run using Rosetta option and make sure that this check box is not selected. If it is selected, click to clear the check box. Close the window.
On the Apple menu, click Restart.
After the computer restarts, again try to access the Web site that generated the error message.

  • Headphone jack no longer working on 27 IMAC 2011

Tried my head phones  tonight and they did not work.  Sound from internal speakers stopped when I plug in Headphones. Tried headphones on IPOD and they work.  Checked the System Preferences, Sound and Output menu.  The only device available to select for output is Internal Speakers.  Could I have lost my selection for the ear phone jack?
    Thanks for help

I don't think anyone has found an answer to this. The common thread seems to be the Snow Leopard update. All solutions offered thus far (MIDI controls, PRAM reset, SMC reset, preference reset, blah blah blah have not worked.
It is just plain frustrating that this has not been fixed by Apple.

After I upgraded to Mountain Lion, I cannot get my external speakers to work (Bose).  What can I do to fix?  They worked fine prior to upgrade.

If you haven't already, go to your Applications folder>System Preferences>"Sound">click on the center tab labelled "Output">highlight your external Bose Speakers in the list by clicking on it>turn up the Volume slider at the bottom of the window.  Hopefully that solves your problem.

  • Trying to get my Lexmark 7300 printer to work on my iMac - how?

I have downloaded my Lexmark 7300 disk to my iMac and it recognizes the Lexmark printer, copier, fax. When I try to print an document or photo, or e-mail received from my iMac ISP connection (Cox.net), there is no response from the printer. Do I have to contact Lexmark to ask what setting to program in on the printer or is it an iMac omission because I did not download the Lexmark program correctly from the disk? How do I check this out on the iMac? I just purchased the iMac (24") and have the Apple Support which I will need to contact to capture my old G3 Adobe 7.0 programs that were transferred in a folder to my iMac but won't open.

As for the G3 Adobe 7, I doubt that Leopard supports that version.
Can you drop the link here for the Lexmark 7300 disk you downloaded? Is it supported by Leopard?
