Anyway to get rid of duplicates, photo, software, and documents, without having to buy software?

Subject says it all. Seems to me I read a post some time ago that we can do this without going through the infamous MacKeeper.

Just an overdue "ps". I forgot to mention that there was somewhat of a viral rant on MacKeeper (with which I heartily concur) and that OS X software provided all that was needed to do much of the above work. Of course, I forgot what that was.
However, I did purchase, after reading a bucket of reviews, "Tidyup" that appears to be the first, user-friendly, non-obliterating software that does exactly what you want it to. With my first use, I dumped 4 gigs of duplicates without the color draining experience of losing lifetime photographs (can you say, "Spring Cleaning"?).

  • Recommend Software to Get Rid Of Duplicate Photos

    Help !!!
I now have duplicate to triplicate photos in iPhoto and Adobe Organizer & Lightroom. What software programs can you recommend that are easy, preferably free to find the dups? I anxiously await your replies. Thanks !!!

You can use my app Decloner free of charge for 30 days. It can find and delete duplicates in iPhoto. Decloner doesn't officially support Lightroom yet, but if you know where the photos are located, you can choose that folder and look for duplicates across both your iPhoto library and Lightroom pictures folder at the same time. Email me if you have any problems with Decloner.

  • Get rid of duplicate photos

Does anyone know how to get rid of my 1500+ duplcate photos in iPhoto.  Somehow when the folks at Applie transfered my files to my new Mac I ended up with a great deal of duplicates.
    Thanks,
    NancyElegante

1 - what exactly was done? I suspect that the transfer was done totally incorrectly and that you have two or three different versions (not duplicates) of each photo and that all events, albums, projects etc are gone
2 - for dealing with duplicates iPhoto Library Manager - http://www.fatcatsoftware.com/iplm/ -  or Duplicate Annihilator are good

  • How do i get rid of duplicate photos in iphoto

i have seen many different posts related to this topic but most contradict themselves.  i am seeing many suggestions to use duplicate anihaltor and then posts that says the actual support people of the product say it doesn't work.  any ideas?  and ideas about how to make it stop happening once i get rid of the duplicates?  I am also trying to figure out how to get iphoto not to pick up every piece of clipart or phone icon etc that crosses its path.  my iphoto is a HUGE mess and i am trying to clean it up...48K pictures...

Do you have a back up of the iPhoto library from before the crash?

  • How can I get rid of baseline drift in an ecg without having the dfdt or advanced signal processing toolkits?

    Hello,
I am recieving a lot of baseline drift in my ECG signal and was wondering how I can get rid of it? I saw examples at NI .com but they used the digital filter design toolkit and the advanced sgnal processing tollkit. I have neither one of these and since I am a student and this is my senior project I have no means to get these toolkits. I tried using a high pass filter but this did not work.\
    Ray

    Ray,
When you say that something did not work, you are not giving much information for us to use to try to help you. Did the filter not work or did it not remove the drift?
How big is the drift, compared to the desired signal? How fast does it drift? How long are your sample sets? What are you doing with the ECG data? Looking at heart rate or analyzing a single-beat waveform for morphological changes? I think you can see that different end goals might require different approaches to baseline compensation.
If the drift is always fairly slow, you might be able to take small segments and subtract the mean of each segment. This may result in some offset or shift at the segment boundaries, but it is very simple and can easily be implemented without requiring a special toolkit.
Another approach is to low pass filter the ECG signal to extract an estimate of the baseline which can then be subtracted. Remember that all filters have a transient response and many will have a phase shift between the input and output.

  • Getting rid of duplicate photos?

After several issues with OSX I have had to burn all my photos to cd and reload them. I seem to have duplicates of most of them in iphoto.
Is there any easy way of getting iphoto to find tha pics that it's duplicated and simply go through them and delete them ( in a similar way to importing them and clicking don't import duplicates)?

    Try Duplicate Annihilator

So... how do I get rid of duplicates in my playlist, caused by having my music in the cloud? Wiithout, of course, having to delete several thousand songs individually? Grrr! Arggg!

Connect to iTunes. On summary screen for ipod, hit the "Configure Universal Access" button. Make sure none of the checkboxes are checked in the dialog box that comes up. Click apply, then sync and voiceover should be off.

Where are the masters actually stored upon conversion from Aperture to Photos? Photos?
The master files are stored on your drive, but they are not actually stored "in" any folder. Folders are really just special files that store various bits of information about the files associated with that folder, including links to where they actually are stored. That's why you can "move" a file from one folder to another very quickly: all that you really are doing is moving the link & other info from one folder to the other folder, while the file itself stays where it was.
Because of this, it is possible for more than one folder to link to the same file -- in the Finder it looks just like there are two copies of the file, one in each folder, but there really is just the one copy. From the description in the Photos saves disk space by sharing images with your iPhoto or Aperture libraries doc, it looks like that's what happens when you import your iPhoto library into Photos -- both the old iPhoto Library "file" (which actually is a set of folders & subfolders of files) & the Photos Library (also consisting of folders & files) contain links to the master files, but like the Apple doc says, there really is just one set of master files being stored.
This is very similar to the way Time Machine backups look like they have multiple copies of the same unique file, one in each time-stamped backup folder, but there really is only one copy on the Time Machine drive. My guess is Apple is using hard links for this, which means the actual master files will not be deleted from the file system as long as at least one link remains to each of them.
So you should be safe in deleting the old iPhotos Library once you are absolutely sure you don't need it, but to be sure, if it was me I would make a backup just in case, or better yet just leave it alone.

  • I want to use The Duplicate Finder to get rid of duplicates in iphoto. I created a library as a folder on my desktop.  Should I trash the photos in iphoto before I run the duplicate finder?

I want to use The Duplicate Finder to get rid of duplicates in iphoto. I created a library as a folder on my desktop and droped it into Dupe Finder.  Many dupes were found.  Before I have it auto select dupes, should I trash the photos in iphoto?  Or will Dupe Finder do that for me automatically?

1 - if you want to remove duplicates from your iPhoto library you would not be using a copy of it
2 - don't do anything without a good, current backup
3 - reading the Duplicate Finder web site does not tell me tha tit is safe to use on the iPhoto library - i suggest you use one of the known good and tested duplicate eliminations programs - see this discussion for links - https://discussions.apple.com/message/24363132#24363132
4 - One cardinal rule - NEVER make any chnages to the structrure or content of the iPhoto library using any porogram (including the finder) other than iPhoto - the programs listed in the linked discussion use iPhoto to do the deleting

How can I get rid of duplicate birthdays in icloud Calendar, especially when there are no Contacts in the iCloud? Case ID: 365381395

Found the answer myself while helping to set up iPhone.  It is simple when you know how.  Before signing out of iCloud to sign in again and restore the link to Photo Stream I had opted to copy iCloud contacts to the Mac.  When I signed in again this created two iCloud views which can be seen in Contacts Preferences.  I just disabled one of them.  Not brave enough to attempt removal but I gues this would work too.

  • How to get rid of duplicate files in Windows Media Player 11, I am seeking an answer if at all possible.

I don't know if this is the appropriate forum to ask this question....if it is not please guide me to the correct support forum. I am just trying to find out if there is an easier way of getting rid of duplicate files in my Windows Media Player 11.
Also how do I prevent my Media player from obtaining all these duplicate files from other libraries.  I have iTunes installed and my home network has four other computers belonging in the home group that have all their own respective music libraries.
I guess I was naïve but I thought that when Windows Media Player is out searching other libraries it would know not to take duplicates of songs that it has already.  Enough said .....if anyone out there can help me that would be great.  I have in
the past spent many hours manually deleting songs from my music files and it really got old.
